[TWEAK] MIUI V4 [2.10.12] tweaks - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hello there! I have created a small flashable .zip with some tweaks I came up with, while experimenting with my MIUI V4 by geno.
This should be compatible with CrazyMIUI (as it is based on geno's release), but only if you have the same release number.
Before flashing make sure you have the same MIUI version as the patch (see version number below). Otherwise you can make the changes on your own with a root file manager at the specific version you are using.
Finally, if you don't want any of the included mods, you can delete the corresponding file from the .zip before flashing. For example lets say you don't want Google play to be installed. Open the .zip file, go to system/app/ and delete the GooglePlayStore.apk file. Then flash normally. The update script manages to flash only the included files/tweaks so you should have no problems.
In case you have problems after flashing, fix permissions.
Tested with CWM 5.5.0.4.
Download at the attachments.
UPDATE: If you have root problems check out this post

Version [2.10.12] Changelog:
NOW BASED ON MIUI PORTUGAL (SHOULD WORK ON GENO'S TOO)
FIX PERMISSIONS FROM CWM AFTER FLASHING. I don't know why but the permissions I am setting doesn't work even though they are the same...
...the rest are the same...
Version [2.9.14] Changelog:
...same
Version [2.9.7] Changelog:
(SAME) Erase the /system/media/video folder. This folder includes some video samples but are useless. I delete them everytime in order to have some more space at the system.
(NEW) Erase some Chinese apps. (supermarket, baidu input, root explorer)
(SAME) Add Google Play (v.3.8.17) as system app because otherwise system can't always update/install apps.
(NEW) Add google Talk because it was killed by the system if it is installed as a user app.
(SAME) build.prop changes. Set composition to gpu, default language english, non-killable launcher.
(SAME) /system/etc/gps.conf tweaks. Use European gps server.
(SAME) /system/etc/enhanced.conf tweaks. Enable ZRAM (SIZE: 80), enable VSYNC (No screen tearing, lower battery consumption, but I think lower benchmark scores), default I/O sheduler: noop.
(SAME) /system/etc/firmware/wlan/qcom_cfg.ini tweaks. Based on sbasil's patch for Aurora. I have doubled my wifi speed!
(SAME) tweaked media_profiles.xml in order to record videos as mp4 (instead of 3gp).
(NEW) added binaries and init.d folder for init.d scripts compatibility. Now every script inside the /system/etc/init.d folder will be executed at startup. A 00test script is by default there which, if it is executed, creates a Test log inside /data. Use it to test if the scripts are executed correctly.
(NEW) fixes some permissions.
Version [2.8.31] Changelog:
(SAME) Erase the /system/media/video folder. This folder includes some video samples but are useless. I delete them everytime in order to have some more space at the system.

(NEW) Doesn't add Google Talk apk and Google Play (v.3.7.15) as these can be installed as user apps.
(SAME) build.prop changes. Set composition to gpu, default language english, non-killable launcher.
(SAME) /system/etc/gps.conf tweaks. Use European gps server.

UPCOMING:
some init.d tweaks from AOKP ROM. Under testing...
anything else you ask and I know how to do it
thanks to dzo, geno, sbasil, crazyGamerGR.

nice
zram really work? I had tried to edit /system/etc/enhanced.conf manually (on miui 2.8.3), but did not achieve any effect..

If you look at /system there should be a log.txt which has some boot information. One of these should be open zram... if it is on at the enhanced.conf file.
In terms of performance i noticed fewer redraws and faster opening of apps... but maybe it is a placebo...

please enter 'free' in the console and look at the 'swap' line. if the column 'total' has a value other than 0, this is not a placebo :cyclops:
ps. at the moment I am unable to install miui and test this tweak..
pps. sorry for my english

ROM will be great when sources will be optimized, but tweaks is like a push candy to dead man. Modifications of how ROM works - yes, but tweaks for performance...
As I saying - customize the source, but not that what goes after when all of customizers understand this meaning all goes on the next level of good things

I agree 200% with that but as long as i don't have the time to mod sources and kernel i am just waiting as you are... I am pretty sure that geno isn't making any progress for U8800 apart from updating the MIUI sources so I append my hopes on MIUI. I think there is room for improvement in 3.0.8 kernel and the smali codes of our patchrom, in order to be optimized for MIUI but i cannot be sure of that as long as i haven't dig the codes enough...
Apart from that i am having better performance with these tweaks so i thought sharing them.
Sharing is caring
Cheers and thanks !

[ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense

xtrSENSE has been built as an everyday HTC Sense ROM that is configured for performance and reliability. Version 5.x uses the March 2011 HTC/Verizon code base which is Android 2.1 made specifically for our Eris. This ROM has features such as a simple yet elegant theme to full support of cache2cache, apps2sd, built in overclocking, and built in memory management. For those that frequent the forum I keep a copy of this build in addition to xtrROM (Vanilla feel using the HTC framework) on my phone (plus a few others from other devs ) because sometimes I just feel like the splendor of the HTC launch screen and integrated widgets. If you would like a "pure" Vanilla 2.1 AOSP experience then be sure to try VanillaASOP.

OPTIONS AND CONTROLS:
Default ROM Configuration:
You do not need to run any scripts unless you would like to change the following default configuration:
dalvik.vm.heapsize: 24m
min free memory values: "balanced" (1536,2048,4096,10240,12800,38400)
CPU Overclocked: Min-245760 Max-710400
CPU Governor: Ondemand
Just In Time Compiler (JIT): Off
Cache Location: Cache2cache On
Apps2sd: Off
Userservice and battery tweak: Off
GScript
I have compiled and incorporated the opensource GScript app to load and one-click run user settings.
To setup your GScripts complete the following steps:
1. After opening GScript press the menu button and select "Add script"
2. A new window will open.
3. Press the Load file button
4. Select a script from the list (each is obviously named as to its function)
5. Ensure Needs SU? is checked
6. Now select "Save" and you have added your script
7. To run just select it from the list in the main GScript screen
8. You may be prompted to reboot the phone for the change to take effect.
This new release has a lot of new scripts but remember your phone has been setup great by default with this ROM and if you do not understand the function or purpose of a GScript then best to not save and run it . One can always search this forum and ask others about all the the fun things you can now do with your phone! I will look to add a list of each GScript and its function as time allows...
Wired Tether
For wired tether to work you must make sure that your computer has the appropriate RNDIS drivers. Learn how to do this at the android-wired-tether Wiki.
Per roirraW "edor" ehT:
The wiki incorrectly states, or implies, that Windows 7 includes the RNDIS support. Or at least, they imply that Windows 7 includes the RNDIS driver necessary. I can confirm that neither Windows 7 x86 or x64 works with tethering out of the box. The instructions for XP users are correct and also work for Windows 7. Just download HTCSync for your device (Eris) and install it, and it'll install the correct driver.
Flash Support
A hacked version of Flash 10.1.123 is baked into this ROM however it has proven to be hit and miss and preforms more like a flash "lite"... Full flash sites such as Halo do not work however many others do; they may just take a while as the Eris is not a powerful phone
Performance Improvements:
Free Internal Memory and Dalvik-cache heapsize - I have update default user settings to allow a larger dalvik heapsize of 24mb (think more space for apps to play) AND optimized how memory is freed up using Androids internal task killer.
Default min memory free:”balanced” (1536, 2048, 4096, 10240, 12800, 38400)
Default dalvik vm heapsize: 24m (48m with JIT on)
To change dalvik vm heapsize or min memory free settings you can just run the appropriate GScript.
If you would like to further modify the default min memory free settings then download Autokiller or MinFreeManager, these apps will allow you to set and monitor the min memory free values. For more information on Androids “internal task killer” and min memory free values go here.
Default Overclock Settings - the ROMs kernel supports overclocking and as part of the custom sysinit process I have added scripts that automatically set the below CPU clock settings when the phone boots:
Min: 19200
Max: 710400
I have included a few GScripts to change cpu max and min settings without using a market app . You can also run the report_cpu_freq script from GScript to get a printout of which frequencies and time in each you phone has been operating.
To change CPU overclock settings just run the appropriate GScript.
If you would like to further modify OC settings then download CPUBoost, SetCPU or Overclock Widget, these apps will allow you to set and monitor the CPU speed. Remember YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR CPU IF RUN TO HOT FOR TO LONG with higher settings.
JIT - JIT (Just In Time compiler) is a built in option for the ROM but is off by default. For a detailed overview of JIT go here. PLEASE NOTE for Android 2.1 JIT is not stable with all applications and can cause odd things on your phone.
To enable/disable JIT just run the appropriate GScript and reboot your phone.
User Services Power Management (Collin_ph Battery Tweak) - I have built in a user services that runs at a polled interval and can set the performance settings of your phone in realtime. The first script that is available is a 2.1 HTC framework version of the Collin_ph Batter Tweak. For a detailed overview of you can view the original thread at here.
The power management battery tweak is disabled by default but there is a gscript to enable plus you can run "battconf" from terminal on the phone or adb shell to configure... The battery tweak runs a script every 60 (or less if you are on power) to poll the capacity of the battery, and as the battery goes down the cpu max freq is progressively lowered. It also changes the CPU write characteristics. You can see all the details in the /system/bin/batter_tweak file.
I take no real credit on this and just ported the concept to the HTC framework and HTC kernel (with the zanfur OC patch). This took a lot of work and I fixed a few bugs but the concept is not mine and all Collin_ph.
When you first run terminal remember to type "su" (or equivilent for your app) to run as root and select "1" then enter when first prompted after starting "battconf".
So how do I know it is working? just run the report_log.sh GScript and you will see when it logs a change to the system settings. Also you can run the report_system_settings.sh GScript and for a display of current settings. This process will be faster if you plug into a power source and wait about 60 seconds
To enable/disable the battery tweak just run the appropriate GScript (user_service_batterytweak_enable.sh or user_service_batterytweak_disable.sh).
Cache Location (Cache2cache):
By default, the dalvik-cache has been relocated from the internal /data/dalvik-cache/ directory to the internal /cache/dalvik-cache directory. The Eris comes with an internal /cache/ file block of 130mb that is not used! After reviewing a number of xda member file system usage reports (thanks xtrROM and xtrSENSE users!) the MOST reported use of this space was 5%... So by moving the dalvik-cache to this free area you now have over 150mb on internal /data/ for apps and over 75mb in internal /cache/ for dalvik-cache. This means that you can probably install close to 75 apps WITHOUT having to partition and move anything to the SD Card ext!
You can also move the dalvik-cache to your sd card ext or back to the stock internal /data/ file block.
So why does my Settings>SD card & phone storage>Internal phone storage only show 150mb or less? This is because this number ONLY reflects the /data/ file block on your phone and does not "see" the /cache/ block that is now being used for dalvik-cache storage. You can run the GScript report_system_settings script to see amount available in /cache/.
Apps2sd and Cache2sd:
I have revamped my implementation of apps2sd to use simpler and better organized scripts. For apps2sd to work you must first complete the listed prerequisites and it is a good idea to read through the "things you may want to know about apps2sd" section. Although it can provide gobs of space for apps, Apps2sd is not for everyone as it ties the stability of your phone to your SD card... If you do not need the space I would recommend that you keep the default of DISABLED; if you want to try you can always disable it again however there is always the chance of issues.
To enable/disable apps2sd and cache2sd just run the appropriate GScript and reboot your phone.
Prerequisites
If you have not setup your SD card (for those new to Apps2sd) as per tkirton:
BACKUP YOUR SD CARD TO YOUR COMPUTER. Can't stress this enough, as partitioning will wipe the entire card.
Reboot into recovery
In Android System Recovery, select Partition sdcard
In the Partition sdcard menu, select Partition SD
Follow the instructions on the phone to partition your SD card. Most folks seem to recommend using the default values however you can go larger or smaller use values 256, 512,768,1024. You will also be asked to set a swap size; I stayed at 32mb (anticipate future ROM options to allow moving swap to sd)
Once the partition is initially created you must then convert to ext3 - In the Partition sdcard menu, select SD:ext2 to ext3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Press the back button on the phone to go back to the main menu.
Your SD card is now ready to work with an Apps2sd supported ROM.
Things you may want to know about apps2sd
Bootloop protection is built in if your SD card is corrupted or is removed from the phone with Apps2sd enabled. Your apps will go away but your phone will boot .
There are 3 subsets of data associated to an app when it is installed and run on your phone.
1) /data/app/ (and /data/app-private) - actual .apk files we think of as the applications that are not system apps (i.e. installed on /system/app)
2) /data/data/ - the files produced by ALL apps (system apps and market apps) during installation that are used by the Android system to run the app
3)/data/dalvik-cache/ - app cache file and work space for ALL apps (system apps and market apps).
From root explorer (or similar) you can browse to the /data/app OR the /system/sd/app folders and you will see the same thing, both will tell you how much space you have used and have left. The way apps2sd works is by "linking" the /system/sd/app to the /data/app folder so that the Android system thinks it is accessing the /data/app it is really at /system/sd/app.
I have seen using Apps2sd cause issues with some.zip flash updates as they try to write directly to the /data/app folder which no longer "physically" exists
If you get into a bootloop issue using apps2sd boot into amon_ra recovery and try one of the follow:
1) from the Other menu option select the Fix apk uid mismatches
2) from the Wipe menu option complete a)Wipe data/factory reset b)Wipe Dalvik-cache c)Wipe SD:ext partition
Apps2sd and Cache2sd Basics
When you run the apps2sd or cache2sd script, upon reboot, it will move ALL your existing apps or cache to the sd card ext partition and ALL future apps and cache will be installed and stored on the sd card ext partition.
Running the apps2internal or cache2internal script, upon reboot, it will move ALL your existing apps or cache to the /data block of internal storage and ALL futures apps and cache will be stored in internal storage.
With HTC based ROMs it is all or nothing and you cannot move individual apps like in the CyanogenMod ROMs.
So how do I know Apps2sd is on? - You can run the GScript report_system_stats which will give you a printout of what fileblocks are used as well as a “true/false” value for Apps2sd On. You can also go to menu>Settings>Sd card and phone storage - when on space available under Available storage will go down at a VERY slow rate when new apps are installed.
TO INSTALL
YOU MUST HAVE A ROOTED PHONE
download the base xtrSENSE .zip file
complete NANDROID backup
copy the .zip file to the root of your sd card
For best results wipe data/factory reset, wipe Dalvik-cache, and wipe SD:ext partition (folks coming from previous versions may try no wipe updates but a full wipe is always "cleanest")
flash the xtrSENSE file from sd card
reboot - first boot will take a while (i.e. over 10 mins)
complete short setup and let your accounts sync
you can save and run one-click GScripts to personalize core ROM settings at any time
Tips:
Random FC - Lower your overclock settings or turn off JIT. Our little Eris's can only do so much and not all hardware is equal... Also remember this ROM is quite fast in stock form and higher Linpack scores DO NOT make for a better user experience
Slow facebook sync? per erishasnobattery: log into your facebook account on your computer - Click Account>Application Settings>under Authorized - remove listing for HTC Sense.
Google contact sync issus? check out the following fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6796805&postcount=102. I think this is not uncommon coming from 2.2 Froyo ROMs as they seem to sync with Google a little differently and I do not think the folks at HTC or Google built their systems with the thought that users would be jumping back and forth between versions as much as we all do...
To turn on the DroidX or HTC_IME mod keyboard long press in any input feild - select Input Methoud option - and select the desired keyboard
To turn on vibration with keypress for the DroidX Multi-touch keyboard long hold the ?123 button in the bottom left and select Android keyboard settings>Vibrate on keypress
If you are syncing facebook then you may want to remember to check the "View contacts" for facebook from the People app Menu>View setting
Turn off notifications for Superuser from the Settings tab of the app
If you have not already done so, check out the notes and tasks widgets now available from Add HTC widget>Get more HTC widgets. Personally I find these most useful.

4.0.5 [8/16/2010]
This was a complete rebuild of the ROM and includes a lot of new backend features with the new init.d user settings system process; summary of changes:
COMPLETELY rebuilt base ROM - Fixed long setup issues YEAH!
Built from Verizons 2.37.605.4 July release
Uses the Zanfur kernel
Most folks seem to prefer the stock keyboard and dialer so they are back
ALSO have the DroidX Multi-touch keyboard (new theme) for those that prefer it (long press an input field and select Input Mode)
developed a new sysinit process and /system/ent/init.d structure as modeled after Linux servers and CyanogenMod.
- ADVANCED USERS can add parameters to configure the system at startup
- use of the /system/etc/sysctl.conf file
- I have included ones that you can un-comment out (remove the # at the beginning of each line) to experiment with...
- Research and learn BEFORE you try these!
- A good place to start learning is http://http://www.redhat.com/docs/wp/performancetuning/rhel4_vm.pdf.
- You can always clear out all changes by commenting out the values or just deleting all content of the file…
developed a new User Settings process that is executed by init.d and runs all set values located in /system/etc/usersettings/conf/
totally revamped apps2sd implementation to simplify and streamline, still cannot move on the fly like CyanogenMod builds but getting close
improved logging at /data/boot_log.txt (you can move a copy to your sd card for viewing via the new GScript app)
developed shell scripts to manage user settings for apps2sd, cache2sd, and JIT toggles
Incorporated GScript app (see http://code.google.com/p/gscript-android/) to load and one-click run user setting toggles (custom app next!)
added quick boot to make reboots faster
New super user 2.3.1 - seems to solve the lag with granting permissions at times (very sweet! will FC if you look select the new log tab before logs are available) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
themed the Analog clock widget
new wallpapers - Titanium edition and Great Oak
added new wired tether app that "should" work for Eris
- http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/issues/detail?id=21
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7002154
General SWEETNESS
3.1 [7/24/2010]
Focus on the Verizon July patch
Built from July Verizon 2.1 patch 2.37.605.4 code. The best I could find on a fix list is below and I do notice an improvement in the performance of the phone in smoothness. http://androinica.com/2010/07/13/htc-droid-eris-rumored-to-get-ota-update-beginning-on-july-16th/
Included a xtrFlash10.zip to the sd card if you want working Flash - thanks to t2noob, vash8806 and Zenulator.
per request added xtrStockKeys.zip to the sd Card if you want the stock dialer and keyboard.
Added wireless tether and xda apps by default

3.0.3 [7/15/2010]
Initial release
Verizion2.1 HTC Eris code base
Removed a few of the lesser used system apps and unused testing tools loaded by HTC
Fully deodex - makes it easier to "hack" and modify HTC code, takes up more internal phone space however with apps2sd this is no longer important
Zanfur's kernel with full OC support
Internal memory management (you no longer need autokiller as it is built into the ROM)
xtr sysinit process and scripts that include
- Apps2sd support based on the work of Damageless and TrevE @ xda
- jit that works with HTC Sense
- dalvik heapsize management
- first boot script support for /data/firstboot.sh file
- Updatable init.dalvik.conf and init.apps2sd.conf files that can be found in /system/etc/ that can be changed to reconfigure the phone on next reboot (future release will hopefully have an app to do this)
Themed phone dialer
New DroidX keyboard customized and themed for Eris
Custom wallpapers
YouTube high res
many other little improvements that I have probably forgotten
For thoes that prefer tkirton Apps2sd it "should" be compatible with the Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5 implemtation (I have not tested). You can always reflash xtrROM3.0.3 to get back to the built in version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715933

In EvilEris's first page of the thread there is a LiveWallpapers patch, that puts in a rosie that does LWP.
It works great, except that the Rosie graphics are all jacked up.
He stated that he will fix it very soon, based on demand, and that will be flashable on this (or probably any de-odex'd senseui rom).
I'm getting:
linpack scores of 3.3 @768 MHZ, but I don't believe that this rom is seeing my A2sd partition.
Quadrant score of 259
So when will this be back up for download?

Great to hear, I'll rerun the test once i get the fix. It seemed to be light on its feet @768 and stable. Though I prefer XtrRom 3.03 . What can I say, I like stock over Sense.
In instructions below "TO INSTALL", I might suggest you add the step to wipe data and/or dalvik cache.

That was a REALLY thorough write-up on this rom. I learned most of the stuff you wrote about through hours of online research and bootloops (when I did something wrong). I wish I would have flashed this as my first custom rom! I wish all developers would explain their roms this thoroughly....screw it, I'm bookmarking this page for future reference.
A2SD is still not working. Nothing is being saved to my ext3 partition.

Sweet! I'm currently running Calkulins plus your V9 kernel and was getting ready to deal with the additions you just made standard! Awesome timing! Can I just clear Cache & Dalvik and then flash (& fix permissions) or would you recommend the full blown Format All then flash?
I am using a very similar combo and it is very stable it will be nice to have it all in one zip. Many thanks.
Can anyone download the file? I can't seem to.
Nevermind, finally got it.
Will Hulu still work in this build?
Yepper HULU works GREAT!!!
I don't know if this is a bug, but I installed thumb keyboard. I go into the keyboard options and try to check the thumb keyboard but it doesn't do anything. Then I try to go into input method, but it doesn't show up there ether.
I've enjoyed your kernel work in the short time I've had my G-Tab. Does this mean you're done w/ the G-Tab kernel making game since it sounds like you'll be returning your G-Tab?
Runs great, thanks.
Any way to add wpa2 enterprise support or get the normal android settings app?
CLEMSYN DON'T RETURN YOUR G TABLET!!!

You have to copy the apk over to system/app folder. You'll need root explorer or something similar.
Thank you in advance for your work. I'm waiting for gTablet I just ordered yesterday from Woot. Hopefully it will show up next few weeks.
Ran this ok for half the day, then pressed power in attempt to wake from sleep and it rebooted. Now it's stuck on the honeycomb boot animation. Any ideas?

I was wondering the same thing as the poster you replied to. I will get root explorer, but where would we find the thumb keyboard that I attempted to install (paid for it). Which folder? Thanks in advance.
With root explorer, go into data/apps and copy the thumb keyboard apk. Now back out and go into system/apps. Make sure you select mount R/W at the top of the screen. Now paste the apk in this folder. Reboot. Now just long press in a text box and choose thumb keyboard in the input method.

I found a easy way to do it! Using CWM install replace tnt settings zip. reboot! you should have your old settings menu now. Then change the keyboard. Go back to CWM and flash rollback tnt settings zip. Reboot! Now your done!
:I suggest you use rollback because some widgets and stuff dont work with the replacement zip:

[ROM][2.3.6] U8860 Modified Port

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage (including, but not limited to, loss of data, non-functional device etc.) which may occur to your device from following the directions (or from any failure to follow the directions) found on this post. Use (and flash) at your own risk.
Credits go to genokolar for actually porting the U8860 2.3.6 firmware to the U8800Pro. This builds upon his port.
You may find his port announcement here, and you can download it from here. Thanks to user Skyline111 for the mirror.
Thanks also go to birdyi, who ported the U8860 2.3.6 firmware to the U8860. His port contained some brilliant things such as CarrierIQ framework removal.
--
This is a 2.3.6 ROM for the U8800Pro based on the U8860 B866 ROM. 2.3.6, naturally, brings a slightly newer version of Gingerbread compared to our 2.3.5 with B540. While I know it's all about CM9 (ICS), MIUI and so on these days, I'm a fan of stock (in the Huawei sense of the term) Gingerbread.
Features (or limitations depending on what you think of some of the following entries) of this ROM:
Rooted (adb also runs as root, too)
(Huawei) DLNA
(Huawei) A task manager that shows open applications with pictures (launching it when pressing Home has disabled in this modification because I found the Recent menu saves more time)
(Huawei) Security Guard, a way of hiding text messages, I think
(Huawei) Traffic Manager – a data counter
(Huawei) Wi-Fi WPS support
(Genokolar) FPS unlocked by default (configurable in enhanced.conf)
(Genokolar) ZRAM (Compcache) enabled
(Genokolar) Changed the autorun.iso path to the image partition so that formatting /data from CWM does not leave you with an empty CD-ROM drive when you plug the phone into a computer
bugreports service turned off entirely so that pressing the volume up button quickly after you've pressed volume down does not leave you with a few seconds' delay and a bugreports folder on your memory card
BusyBox from CM7
Android’s toolbox (poor coreutils replacement; more barebones than BusyBox) has its full set of links installed in /system/bin, so you use Android’s native chmod etc. tools. Why? To match the stock B512 firmware and to ensure developers testing on the U8800Pro correctly hardcode “busybox” in their root programs if needed
Optional lazy CPUfreq governor
Default language and region changed from Chinese – China to English – United Kingdom
Added in boombuler’s AppWidgetPicker
CM7’s Pacman added in to remind you to install Google Apps after adding an account with the Setup Wizard (make sure GApps is installed!)
VoiceDialler.apk added in from B512 firmware (although, to be honest, the microphone quality on my phone is awful…)
Bash shell, fix_permissions script, iwmulticall, MMS.apk, tcpdump and gdbserver and additional ringtones etc. from CyanogenMod (20120107-cm-7.1.0-u8800pro-Geno-en.zip) added in
Phone model changed to Desire HD, so Gameloft games can be bought. This may cause licensing problems with bought Market applications so be careful. (Although, I must admit that giving money to a company that doesn't support our phone seems counter-intuitive.)
Shutdown vibration reduced from 500ms to 100ms because I hate it (especially at night) but understand its usefulness in determining the answer to the question “Has the phone gone off yet?”
Huawei’s god-awful Low Battery notification replaced with a nicer one from CyanogenMod
Widgets actually restore themselves after a reboot! This was fixed by me replacing 2.3.6's PackageManager service with Huawei's 2.3.5 one.
MyCalendar widget from birdyi's port and MyEmail from B512 added in
Fixed proximity sensor dying if the light sensor was on, too.
Stripped down enhanced.conf - only swappiness, VSync and ZRAM settings available. I don't like /system/log.txt being created every time my phone boots and I think using a tool in Android like, say, No-frills CPU Control is the better place to set the frequency. SetXperia has support for setting the phone's CPU voltage.
More languages selectable from the Setup Wizard than just English (US) and Chinese.
Flash Player removed for copyright reasons. You can install it from the Market
Notepad and Richpad removed
Droid Sans Fallback supports more character ranges
Toolbox correctly has "Wi-Fi" instead of "WLAN"
Misc. kernel modules, like in B512, included
But I like the BusyBox tools and want to use them without having to prefix BusyBox everytime!
Just run the bash shell; BusyBox versions of cat, chmod, chown, df, insmod, ln, lsmod, mkdir, mount, mv, rm, rmdir, rmmod, umount, sleep, kill, and ifconfig will become the default while you’re using the bash shell (also nicer, BTW: you get tab-completion, for one) thanks to the CyanogenMod team.
Attempts to remove Carrier IQ. Huawei *do* include Carrier IQ in their firmware.
I’ve done the following to attempt to remove it the best I can:
Edited boot.img to not start Carrier IQ services
Removed Carrier IQ libraries from /system/lib and CiQ binaries from /system/bin
Added lines to build.prop to disable CarrierIQ, taken from the framework.jar file itself.
birdyi has also modified framework.jar to stop the CarrierIQ objects from being instantiated.
Ideally the best way to be Huawei-free is to use CyanogenMod.
I've removed the Cloud+ apps because of this. I've left some Huawei apps in, but I strongly recommend you install PDroid (the patcher works fine with this ROM) and block the more concerning permissions of Huawei system apps.
Kernel changes
Since the kernel genokolar provided with his port had a problem when a program used the light and proximity sensor at the same time – the proximity sensor would die out until the next restart – I took it upon myself to rebuild the kernel available from his github repository with the config from his latest kernel. After comparing his kernel to the source Huawei put out, I could see no code changes that would cause the proximity sensor to die out. Since I was rebuilding the kernel, I thought I’d make a few changes:
Add in the Lazy CPU governor by Ezekeel
Update a patch by stockwell to disable keypad lights (echo 1 > /sys/module/leds_msm_pmic/parameters/disable_button_leds) - use ButtonLock to control
Reverse genokolar’s decision to always allow NV logging – this can be turned on and off from the service menu on a stock ROM anyway…
Set minimum backlight level to 15, from Franco’s kernel. Warning: I haven’t tried setting it to 15 so I don’t know if that value renders the display practically useless, and I don’t know if Android lets you set it to 15 from its settings!
ButtonLock
Not as revolutionary as I'd like it to be, but useful nevertheless. I've written a quick widget, which looks like the Power Saving one, that turns off the button backlight. Useful for when you're reading books through FBReader.
You need to be using my kernel as it has the disable_button_leds patch. The advantage the disable_button_leds patch has over the chmod 444 method is that it doesn't introduce noticable lag. The widget's source is in the same folder.
When pressing the widget's button for the first time, there is a delay as the Superuser allow/deny dialog box takes its time to come up. After accepting, future launches are instantaneous.
If you need something that this ROM doesn’t provide compared to other stock ROMs, I recommend:
Not using it; or
Using a combination of diff, abootimg, Winmerge (or Beyond Compare) and apktool to compare this with genokolar’s original release, and with birdyi's ROM, and add what you want back in
Installation
Note: You must be running firmware version B522 on your device! If you have B540, you need to downgrade. If you have a firmware version lower than B522 (Froyo?), you must upgrade to B522 first. If you're already running a custom ROM, ignore this.
Take out the SIM card if you want the setup wizard to use Wi-Fi during setup.
Install genokolar’s recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343276
Place u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip on the internal memory card or an external one (I recommend the internal one to ensure you don’t run into U8800Pro CWM bugs with the external).
Get gapps for Gingerbread and place on your memory card. Find the link using every Android user’s favourite search engine.
I highly recommend using PDroid, but it’s up to you whether you want to use it. If you would like to use it, get the patcher from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056 and point it to u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip. Place the PDroid-v1.27-u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip file onto your memory card.
Boot into recovery (make sure that fast boot is turned off in Settings->Applications and hold power and volume up while turning the phone on)
Do a data/factory reset.
Install the ZIPs, starting with u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip (obviously).
Reboot!
Install the Google apps (those ones not included in CM's gapps ZIP like YouTube) if desired when prompted – but note that the Market will probably close as you’re doing this as it will automatically update itself.

Interesting. I've had no problems reconnecting to a network that uses WPA2-PSK and another that uses 802.11x authentication.

Are your APNs set correctly? In my case 2G works and I've had HSDPA working because when testing the Weather Clock widget (from B522, when I had it in) it would connect using it - I could see the icon in the status bar - and I had the pleasure of having my balance run down each time - I'm not a rich man
Edit: In build.prop, you can try playing with ro.config.hw_fast_dormancy=3 - genokolar had it set to 2, but I changed it back to 3 from the U8800Pro original ROM because I wouldn't be able to connect to my network otherwise.
Hopefully, it's not the case but it could be hardware differences. genokolar, who's work this is based on, being from China, probably has a Unicom U8800Pro, just like I do...
@Zaic
B512? This is for the U8800Pro. I'd advise you not to flash it. I'd recommend using birdyi's ROM. If you're after a certain improvement from this ROM, tell me and I'll try and isolate it for you (as long as it doesn't involve kernel stuff - I don't know how to build U8800 kernels) so that you can use with birdyi's ROM
I have u8800 pro - 100%
My ROM is original unrooted 2.3.5 B512 its one before the latest release which is B540
My ROM still has access to pink screen, otherwise its the same as B540 I guess
SO what should I do first to install this ROM? roll back to 2.2.2 or was it 2.2.3?
Ah, if you're running 2.3.5 already and in the pink screen mode you see a folder called image when connecting your phone to the computer you're ready to go
Hi!
My compliments for the porting of Android 2.3.6 to U8800Pro!
I am using your rom since yesterday and still now I am not having any kind of problems.
Anyway I notice the same bug of the B512 and B540 roms: put your smartphone on screenoff, then wait about 1 minute and fastly unlock the screen and try to pinch to zoom on the home. Sometimes the multitouch doesn't work on every position of your fingers, it only works correctly if your fingers are in the position of principal axes.
Please try to reproduce this bug.
I am using LauncherPro but this bug is indipendent by the launcher (for example I tried also Zeam Launcher, Go Launcher EX, etc etc).
I hope you can solve this bug, maybe kernel-related.
Regards,
kalo86

Sorry for asking, but how do you pinch to zoom on the home screen? I'm using Go Launcher Ex and I know that that has the swipe up gesture but I can activate that with one finger, anyway.
In any case, have you applied the Synaptics touchscreen update? For me it has increased the touchscreen performance greatly. I had one problem that when after unlocking, the touchscreen wouldn't respond unless I turned the screen off and tried again. The update solved that.
If you want to try it, open the service menu (*#*#2846579#*#*), go to ProjectMenu->Upgrade->Touch screen version query and see if it says "synaptics". If so, put the original Huawei recovery.img back on and put the synaptics.img file in a folder called update on your SD card. Use the recovery's "touchscreen firmware update" update option and it will automatically reboot when it's done.
Best regards,
qwerty12
Oh, really thank you for this "news" about the synaptics touchscreen update!
I have a synaptics too, then I am going to update the firmware.
Another bug, still present in B512, B540, Cyanogen and U8860 port: unplug your battery from the smartphone, insert it again, power on, then open your file manager and try to read the sdcard content. At 99% my sdcard is not read, then I have to reboot my U8800Pro and magically the sdcard is read.
Thanks to You and Genokolar for our development!
Regards,
kalo86
UPDATE: I updated the synaptics touchpanel but I have always the bug of multitouch. It is reproducible when you unlock the screen after a pause of 1 minute (about), then you open the stock browser and try to zoom with the multitouch. It works only if your fingers are on the principal axes and not in other positions. I have this bug on 4 different U8800 Pro! It cannot be a singular problem.
So, I have tried a lot of roms, based on B512, B540, U8860, CyanogenMod 7.1, I am sure I will try this bug on the next release because it's mabe a kernel bug due to the multitouch field.
Video demonstration
This is a video which I just uploaded on YouTube with the real multitouch bug.
This bug is in 4 different U8800 Pro.

I really can't reproduce this. I pulled out the battery while it was on, put it back in and started File manager (the one included with Huawei ROMs) and the internal SD card along with my external one were seen fine.

INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: Make a nandroid backup before downloading this!
If something goes wrong (even though it has been tested numerous times) its always good to have a backup! I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device as a result of this!
1. Download the .zip from goo-inside.me linked below
2. Reboot into ClockworkMod
3. Install zip from SD Card -> Browse for zip you just downloaded
4. Wipe Dalvik cache (in advanced menu)
4. Reboot
5. Heres the decision point: you can either end here, or you can continue on to install the V6 ICS Supercharger script. The process is a little bit involved, so if you don't want to continue, you don't have to. I reccomend you do continue though, as the Supercharger script makes a very big difference in terms of speed! For those of you who choose not to continue, thanks for installing the SUPREME Modpack! Enjoy your Touchpad! For those that want the ICS Supercharger too, continue below!
=======================================================
6. Download the latest Supercharger script from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 to your /Download folder (the file is called "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh.txt") (Note: the name might change if a new release of the script comes out)
7. Continuing to install the supercharger script... open up a file manager and rename the file to get rid of the .txt extension (so that it becomes a .sh extension)
8. Open up the app called Terminal Emulator on your Touchpad. If its not already installed (it should have come with CM9) then just install it from the market.
7. In the Terminal, type the following.
Code:
su
Then accept the Superuser request that opens up.
8. Then type:
Code:
sh /Download/V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh
(Note: the name might change if a new release of the script comes out)
9. The screen will display some text as the script loads up. Be patient and wait.
10. After loading, it will come to a thing where it detects what launcher you are running. Press the enter key to confirm your launcher.
11. The script will do some more stuff and then ask for what type of scrolling you want. Type in "1" without quotes to confirm you want fast scrolling to make the install process quicker and then press enter.
12. It will do some more stuff and then ask about integration. Type "y" without quotes confirming you want integration and then press enter.
13. It will do some more stuff and then ask about animations. Type "y" without quotes confirming you want to disable the animation and then press enter.
14. It will do some more stuff and then ask about what type of Supercharger you want. Type "9" without quotes confirming you want the highest and most aggressive tweaks (they work the best for the Touchpad) and then press enter.
15. The script will finish up and then ask if you want to super clean your system. Type "y" without quotes and then press enter. Your system will reboot.
16. Go to this link: http://android.mimic.ca/
17. Upload your services.jar file from the /system/framework/ directory
18. Patch the file using the online patcher
19. Download the CWM file it gives you (the .zip). Don't worry about what it says about being for Nexus S.
20. Reboot to recovery and flash the CWM file it just gave you.
Congrats, you have the SUPREME Modpack and the ICS Supercharger scripts installed! Reboot normally and enjoy!
To update, just follow the same instructions as the install directions! You will also need to install every time you install a new ROM.

I at least had to give this a shot to maybe see if it would help with me getting this game installed.
Nonetheless excellent work and thank you for your contribution!

I added the build.prop text in the OP near the bottom, in a pastebin link. Copy the text from there, paste it into your build.prop, and then find the line for the density and edit that back to 132 before saving.

Im really looking forward to a smoother scrolling experience. I love my tp immensely but I've always found the very subtle studder of scrolling to be a little displeasing when it comes to scrolling in between home screens. Does this "smooth scrolling" enhancement effect web browsing scrolling?
I am definitely going to give this a shot bud, brb with thoughts and opinions. Thanks again for your work in this community.

If you're using windows, ignore the driver installer error prompt. Your TP should still be visible when you go to my computer.

This really works! I was stuck using 160dpi on Alpha2 because 120 or 132dpi both were not smooth, they had a small skip or judder when transitioning screens. Bugged the heck out of me so I set it to 160dpi where it is smooooth.
I flash this build.prop this morning and 132 is now just as smooth! Not sure what else it fixed but it didn't break anything which is always a good thing. Me happy
Thanks Rohan!
Nice one
Changed the build.prop in notepad to 160dpi then saved over the top and just flashed, now I'm playing BackStab HD! Thank you very much!
Thanks for doing this but I have a question. In your OP, you listed:
disables error checking (may have side effects)
Does this affect the SD card error checking (fsck_msdos) that the TP does on boot, which shows up as Preparing SD card on notifications?
Btw, just a suggestion that it might be a good idea to put a line in your OP and recommend doing a nandroid backup or at least backing up of the original build prop file before flashing this. Thanks again.

Hi guys, sorry, just got back from school. I've answered some of your questions below.
Also, just wanted to say that tonight I will be adding a whole boatload of improvements via the init.d file. I worked on it at school today for a little bit at lunch and it should bring a whole host of speed improvements and smoother aspects to CM.
@Mr.Quipster Yes, this also affects the web pages. It increases the screen's refresh rate when scrolling, thus allowing a "smoother" experience.
@ruthienu I've changed it so that StageFright, the media streaming tool in Android 2.2+ scans meta tags, as well as HTTP filesystems for media. It doesn't hurt to have these lines in there if you aren't using media streaming. It also doesn't interfere with anything else. If you want to delete it, flash the zip and delete lines 101-104 [the ones starting with media.stagefright(...)]
@webdroidmt Nope, this disables something called CheckJNI. It basically scans the system every now and then for things such as invalid variables and arrays, bad buffers, and some UTF-8 errrors. None of the errors it catches are system-threatening and disabling it frees up a substantial amount of RAM. If you do not want this to be enabled as a feature then simply flash the zip, then edit your build.prop and delete the line "ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0". And thanks for the suggestion, added a warning

Did you repair graphic issues (in some games and apps) and slow working on some launchers etc.?
this is gorgeous!
Testing with updated kernel. Any report in this same post, later today or in the next days. First impression: wow! Second impression: (wow!)^3.
To be continued...
UPDATE 1: Ok, here some notes after some tries...
Strange visualization of some apps (e.g. Jrummy's Root Browser Lite) with wrong space and scale between graphic elements. Text in Google Play is near white, almost unreadable, also in Viber's popup windows. Some chinese symbols in calendar. Email's input fields dirtied by strange blue lines. Compass ovalized.
Deleted useless (for now) scripts:
00banner, 01mountsd, 02miuithemeprop, 04 first boot, 05 lagfixer, 07 writeback, 09scardspeedfix, 97swap2sd, net_buffer, remount_fullext4, s99drop_cache.
Also, maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that swap file function isn't supported by kernel, apparently you cannot have a swap file.
Modified also build.prop but only to meet my needs of mantain scripts as clean as possible!
UPDATE 2: deleted /system/default.prop, the values here aren't well suited for this rom causing instability or reboots. It will be automatically replaced by the default file residing in the ram disk.
UPDATE 3: replacing kernel with that taken from latest LeWa rom (only for test purposes, some devices e.g. bluetooth will not works!) you can activate the swap file. Sorry I cannot try further this rom, I hope that the next version will be better.
This rom is enjoyable although not perfect, needs some work but the path is right! My bests!
Additionally: auto-retrieve MMS doesn't work.
Hello, any progress with bugs removal?
