Weird bug: battery usage doesnt update. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Nexus 7 running euroskank cm10 and motley kernel but it happened on stock ROM and kernel before root too and on parandoi android ROM.
Basically when you go into settings > battery > usage with the braph , it is always behind like 30 seconds and once you open it it will stay at that time until you remove it from the recent apps or kill with back button. Then when you open it again, it will be 30 seconds behind again and won't update again.
Any one else have the same problem?

Questions about standby mode

I may have asked this before, but I'm not sure.
My A500 has a custom ROM on it, but its had this problem on multiple roms. I haven't tried on stock yet, but that's probably my next step. Anyways, here are my questions:
- How long can you usually leave your A500 in standby mode and still wake it up?
- Is there a way to manually put the tablet into sleep mode?
When I first got it, I remember leaving my A500 in standby mode (it should automatically go into standby when you idle, right?) and being able to wake it by hitting the power button almost a day later. Now I can only do it for a few hours and then it won't come out of sleep. I'll have to turn it off by holding the power button down (even though there is no indication that it is turning off), then I can turn it on again. Sometimes my battery will be depleted, apparently indicating that it did not properly go into sleep mode?

Usually I can leave it in sleep mode for well over a day, and it still wakes.
Press the PWR button will put it to sleep.
I would guess, the problem is Kernel related. This sometimes happens with kernels that supply Over/Under voltage. Usually for overclocking. Most of the newer kernels walk a fine line with trying to get maximum battery life, and your tab may suffer "the sleep of death" and require a hard re-boot.
I would advise one of the older kernels, like RTrips 3.4+ or Thors 3.7. Try to stay away from the most recent kernels.
Also, a few of the custom 500 roms, are really "cooked". Lots of changes to the rom itself.
You may want to try a lightly stock rom with a lower version kernel. This will fix the sleep of death issue.
As with your battery, the usual stuff like wifi/gps on, notifications, syncs, these all cause battery drain.
I leave my wifi on, but my syncs are set to every hour. Mail, Sms, and FB (silent). GPS is hard set to off. Widget refreshes also are 4 hrs.
I lose maybe 6% or so overnight.
All of the above is true there is one more issue that can occur . Google backup and restore.a bad app that you keep getting restored by the above.
if all else fails you can try the fallowing..
download a near stock rom.. with STOCK Kernel .
in cwm
of course wipe all
format all..
flash rom..
wipe all again.. (you know all of that)
if im having a app issue.. to find the app.
when your tablet boots the first time.. when you get to setting up your google account.. untick the boxes for backup and restore of data.. then install your apps one at a time back . to see what app is causing the trouble.. Of COURSE this all only applies if the rom flash does not work.. google often puts the problem back.. Ti backup will do the same .. put issues back.. Trial and Error is only way to solve this issue. ITS THE ONE MOST COMMON AND MOST TALKED ABOUT ISSUE WITH not only our tablet but all of android devices..
GOOD LUCK ..

Thanks to both of you. I needed reassurance that my tablet wasn't just messed up. I have a warranty on it and was thinking about getting it replaced and seeing how the new one behaved, but I'll try the suggestions. I'll probably try to reload my ROM after formatting and start with just the base apps and add one at a time as you suggested. If that doesn't work, I'll try a different kernel or ROM with a different kernel. I've already tried not using SetCPU to under/overclock, but that didn't work. Thanks again!
Another (relatively rare) issue is that the kernel you're using actually is flawed and fails to wake the GPU after it went to sleep (this may be a lot later than the device itself, depending on background services!). In this case using a different kernel will solve the issue (stock kernel is works).
EDIT: Posted at the same time... By all means try another kernel, this is a known evil with custom ones.
Okay, so I've tried installing the stock, rooted 3.2 ROM which uses the stock kernel. Did not restore any apps from Google Backup. Still getting the same issue. Does this point to a hardware issue? I have a warranty on this tablet, so I want to know if I should try trading it in.
OK, before you take your tab back, personally, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have noticed, on some occassions, (yes, I do run stock rooted on occasion), that sometimes, the tab will get what we call the sleep of death. And usually, this may occur over a long period of time. Also, sometimes, I have to hit the pwr button several times, before it wakes.
+1 with the PP on overclocked kernels. This happens with the most recent ones.
Fortunately, System Tuner Pro, will increase MB voltages, so you don't get this.
If it does it again, and you are on stock, try to press the pwr button several times.
cool, thanks. I'll try this today.

Mine has never worked on any rom with any configuration. Turning off wifi helps sometimes.

set up your device better, take control of your apps, and use less background notifications and apps that work in the background.
Use this app for a few hours to find the source that is causing the drain:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...MsImNvbS51enVtYXBwcy53YWtlbG9ja2RldGVjdG9yIl0.
Find the app and hibernate them from draining your battery

My Rom/Kernel/Baseband trouble

So im a flashaholic, and ill usually flash new builds every couple weeks if they've included performance or features improvements. Ive always had good battery life .5 to 1.5% an hour. Well lately its sucked, at around 3%/hr idle. I always use the same stuff, Xylon Rom, and francos kernel. Ive tried just about everything to try and figure out why its happening, even trying different roms and kernels. One thing i will say is i believe when i had the best battery life was before the latest system update. When i was using baseband .33. So im thinking that might be my next test, to try to flash the older .33 radio.
Here are all the constants as far as applications i install that people might think be causing problems, even though BetterBatteryStats really shows no problematic wakelocks to my knowledge, which ill post screenshots of later for you guys to analyze

Franco Kernel App
What ive tried so far
1. Restored my phone stock 4.2.2 image from google developers. Flashing all the img files via fastboot trying to start from a clean phone. Right after that i flashed latest Xylon rom and franco milestone 2 kernel. After that i install all my apps, customize my phone and such. I charged it last night pulled it off and let it idle through the night and it dropped from 100% to 85% ~3%/hr. This is what ive been getting for the past 2 months so im guessing the stock flashing didnt help do anything. Unfortunately i didnt save the screen shots of betterbatterystats for you guys before i decided to proceed to step 2 this morning.
2. Trying a different kernel this morning and also upgraded my .48 baseband to the .54 one. I flashed Faux kernel this time, and also his Faux123 App. I kept all the default settings just like i do with Francos kernel. Im currently charging my phone to 100% right now, going to drain it throughout the day, and then charge it up again, clear the battery information and let it idle overnight. Ill report back after that, including the BetterBatteryStats information. Hopefully you guys can help me get this sorted out.
The problem is not coming from the kernels or the baseband. Most likely the trouble is coming from your apps. Install "wake lock detector" to find the cause of issue. Optional: download "Greenify" and hibernate apps so they won't drain power and wake up constantly.

[Q] AT&T 4.4.4 NJ4 Battery Drain

I did an OTA update to 4.4.4 NJ4 a couple of weeks back. Immediately after it update my S4 was sluggish and drunk. At times it performs normally, and at others it stutters. For example, pushing the home button to return home from an app sometimes take a fraction of a second, other times it takes 4 full seconds. Same with swiping notifications away and everything else.
It also frequently heats up beyond belief both when on and when the screen is off and it's in my pocket or on a table.
I then successfully rooted it, following the directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...to-root-i337ucufnj4-4-4-4-11-13-2014-t2939553
It continues to run like garbage and heat up. 2 hours of screen off time and it drained from 100% to 59%.
Both GSAM and the native android battery monitor show Android OS around 33% and Android System around 16%. Even higher then the Screen when I have been using it for a long time.
It's my plea for help. Anyone else having issues with this version? It ran fine before this.
Any suggestions on how I might fix it? I know I can do a factory reset, but I doubt that will fix it. I remember seeing a site where you can download full stock roms. Can anyone point me to that? Perhaps I can wipe the phone, reload the rom and hope for the best.
Go to sammobile.com. They have new and older firmwares.

Phone is suddenly incredibly laggy

Running the latest purenexus ROM and my phone has suddenly had a dramatic decrease in performance. I would have to wait anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds for performing as simple an action as pressing the home button or opening a link. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, a fix?

No problems here with PureNexus and EX.
Have you tried to reboot (when was your last reboot)?
Have you installed any "tweaks" that could mess with settings?
Is your device in thermal throttling mode or energy saving?
Are there any apps running in background?
I'd suggest to check the running processes if anything keeps the device "busy" and to check the actual CPU frequencies to determine if an app or process is the cause of the performance decrease...
