When I reboot by holding volume-down and power for some seconds, I very briefly see the screen that would allow me to choose recovery, or fast boot...but then it disappears and runs right to the hboot screen. There, my only option is to flash PC10IMG...which I'd love to avoid.
Why? I just flashed the v. 19 radio, and haven't changed the PC10IMG-FroYo.img back into PC10IMG...the one at /sdcard/ is still EdKeys radio file! I suppose that I could put the sd card in my computer, push the proper image there and re-insert it in my phone... (can I do that, in fact?) but then I'd be stuck re-rooting the device, which you can see above is at just the right place...right where I want it.
What I really want to know is, why can't I get into recovery...it has been working just fine...it's the latest "classic" 4EXT...2.2.27-RC5 or some such...
As I say, it appears (that is, the option to choose it or fastboot, etc. appears) when I do volume-down + power...then it is gone.
Big thanks for the help. I was trying to flash some new ROM and got an sdcard error, then stupidly just hit "reboot now," thinking I would go back to the last good ROM I'd flashed...assuming the one I was trying to flash just hadn't taken. I was outside in the bright sun, and couldn't read the error very well...and said, scr*w it, and rebooted. Sigh...
I have a complete nandroid backup taken just a few hours earlier...so getting to fastboot should do it...but I can't seem to!

the problem is you left the pc10img on your sdcard, either remove your sd card or remove the .zip
your bootloader will always check for this first, if present it will not want to go any further

and if I boot it without the SD card...what then? I never thought of that...is /system enough? Or am I better off getting a new card and loading it with the PC10IMG I want (through my computer)...or even just use this old one, if I can swap the radio's image against, say, FroYo's which I have?
thanks,

once you apply the radio.img, its done. boot into os and use a file explorer to remove it, or mount it to pc and remove it. or if you want it on sd then just simply rename it.
you won't be able to get into recovery until you do

at the cost of twenty odd bucks, I bought a 16 GB, class 10, SD card...not because I need it, but because I could not buy a passive adapter without a card! Came home, insert the old SD card in the adapter, adapter into the Mac, into the finder, changed PC10IMG to PC10IMG-radio+rcdata-v19, changed PC10IMG-FroYo to PC10IMG, and I am back in business with a new system.
Now...to learn how to format the dumb card I bought, and replace the 8 gig, class 4 (or 6?) guy I have in there now.
many thanks again, now I know more...

you have 4ext recovery right? if not very similar in clockwork, just boot to whatever recovery and partition there.
personally I recomend 1~2gb for ext4 and no swap (skip the second ext partition if it asks) and the rest fat32. of course use what works for you. I lived with 512mb ext partition for years (with the g1) and only moved to 1gb a year or so ago. haven't felt the need for more as I'm not super app heavy.

It'll wait till tomorrow, but thanks! There's another guy I see quite a bit here on the forums, kbeezie or something like that, who gives detailed info on how he does swap...there's a thread about it I'll want to read...maybe he uses another app in there as a swap manager...
It's poetic justice that you have helped me, since it was (indirectly) you who got me into this mess (and only you I'll admit it to.) You mentioned the other day that you like EliteMod...so I thought I'd give it a try. I flashed it, and very first thing it wanted me to log in to my google account...I said ok, and up came a message like "slide out the keyboard." I looked blankly at that for a long time...swiped with my finger from all directions...tapped on the screen...cursed...and it never, never, ever occurred to me that what was meant was the physical keyboard, which I haven't used in a year, at least!
Ha ha, the jokes on me...what an old nitwit, eh? I bought the damn G2 for the keyboard in the first place, as I was a confirmed BlackBerry user from my work...and fell instantly in love with Swype (and now Slide-IT, SwiftKey, etc.) and never "hardware" typed since. So I shut it down, rebooted into recovery, reflashed mimicry...and in the middle of that, it occurred to me what EliteMod was talking about...so without ever rebooting into mimicry, I went back into 4ext, reflashed EliteMod...and that was when my trouble started (now fixed again, of course, thanks to you.)
So, my friend, you have sunk me and revived me each once today...well done and thanks...
BTW, where in the Cities do you live? I used to work for the U of MN, in Morris, where I was CIO...that was how I became prairie-dad.
best regards,
dave
No problem, I'm glad I'm able to help. Kebeezie has made an aroma installer to help setup data swap and apps to SD in various Roms. This was thought up and the script written by the developer of elitemod, nik3r, so if your planing on using elite mod ICS, don't worry about kebeezies script as it is a part of elitemod, well all the files are there along with explanations in the op.

did what all my friends told me to do, who have the evo apparently a bad mistake. used unrevoked to root my evo, worked perfect. stoked!! downloaded titanium backup, backed up everything, worked great. still happy. went to install a rom (i guess) it told me i needed to change my kernel and had a link to the market for a kernel downloader. downloaded the app looked through bout five different kernels, all had good reviews and stable... downloaded the one with the most downloads (6700 or something). asked download? i said yes. asked flask now? i said yes. it said flash complete reboot coming... rebooted got to the HTC EVO 4G white screen sat there for bout 15 seconds and shut off tried to reboot again same thing. bout ten times in a row so i pulled the battery. did a hard reset didnt fix, did a wipe, didnt fix.... did not make a nandroid back up...oops
anyone know what i can do please help.. thank you
some people said i can download a new rom drag it to my sd card once the card is mounted to the computer. so i tried (3 different roms) and it will not let me drag it to the sd card folder once i put it on my desktop. how do i fix my phone???? lol

no my phone will not boot up i just have the sd card mounted phone by my side off. i was told to drag the rom into sd card then reinstall into phone go to recovery mode and unzip the filed rom from the sd card through the phone using the volume buttons and lock button to select.
but it wll not let me drag the rom into the sd card to even get that far
Answer is to find another kernel (stock or otherwise) and put it on the SD Card. Then boot into Recovery and flash it.
Sounds like you may have loaded an ASOP kernel on a Sense Rom. What you are gonna need to do is pull out the SD Card and connect to your computer with a USB adapter so SD Card reader if you Laptop/PC has one. Download a SENSE Rom kernel and flash that in Recovery. If that doesn't work. put the phone back to stock and start over. Also, you might want to copy the Titanium Backup folder to your PC, just in case.

I had someone install Android direct to the phone (NAND), and wipe out Windows altogether. I'm trying to reprogram because after working fine for 5 months, the signal goes in and (totally) out randomly.
Sooooo, I've got root, aMAGLDR V1.3, Kernel 2.6.32.15, and I'm running ROM Manager...but I don't know what the hell I'm doing, really. Oh, and I downloaded some ROMs to my microSD.
And there's a catch. My USB port is totally loose now, so we need to do this without plugging in.
Is it possible?
If I boot into aMAGLDR, and I choose
1. Boot WPH, I get: WPH not installed
2. Boot AD SD, I get: SD Kernal Open Failed
3. Boot AD NAND, starts my old crappy ROM
4, 5, and 6 are USB (non)options
7. AD Hardreset: Do you want to erase all data? No, I don't.
8. AD Recovery: Invalid boot image header
9 Tetris: Press Enter to start, and then it doesn't start, and then I get sad.
If someone walks me through this (here, pm, Skype, Google Talk, Facebook, phone, whatever) I'll Paypal ya $20. If a bunch of people post the right answer, I'll split it, but don't fight over it. This is meant to be a fun little challenge, and a way for me to learn a little.
So, the race is on. Or is it?
You got magdlr installe. Do you have the recovery installed too? that would be the next thing you would have to flash and not to need a cable. the rest is easy and dont need a cable but you do need your sdcard. Being that you havent stated whether your phone is a eu model or a us model I will take the chance and say its the us model, next question is do you plan to use a ext partition of the sdcard? If you are then you need tpartition the sdcard from the recovery partition (CWR) after you have then you can copy the rom of your choice to the sdcard on your computer, then insert the sdcard into the phone and then flash the rom. if you dont plan to use an ext card, then skip that step and just copy thre rom onto the sdcard, flash and reboot.
A loose usb means nothing as long as it work thats all that matters, plus if the usb is loose then you have a bigger problem, how do you plan to recharge the phone?
U have milion solutions on forum for ur problems but if u really need help pm me i will give u skype or gtalk and I will most likely solve that for you cause i played a lot with my HD2

The only thing is once you boot into recovery go to mounts and format all that has a format option. After you format everything, power down remover sd card and transfer your rom onto it. Then power back on and boot into recovery again and flash rom, reboot and enjoy !

Not only does this appear to be a rather rude response (don't know if that's what you intended) but this is also a rather pointless thread. There are countless guides on how to install NAND Android (my favourite being this one) and if you had done any research you would have known beforehand that ROM Manager and MAGLDR don't work well together. I really don't know what showlyshah means when he says that ROM Manager now supports MAGLDR because as far as I know it isn't true and there would be loads of threads about it.
It's not a rude at all. I've done tons of research on these forums.
The problem lies in the fact that those of us who are not programmers don't have a base level of knowledge that is assumed in these forums. Couple that with all the acronyms that are new to us, and it's a puzzle to figure this stuff out.
Every time I program a new device I say, AHHHH! That was sooooo easy...once I knew the steps. Until then, it's impossible.
Have u do it or not ?
Here's where I'm at. I followed that guide. THANK YOU so much-I hadn't seen that one before.
I tried to install a ROM after I installed clk, and got stuck in a loop. At least I'm gettting a different result.
I've started over, and I've got CLK on the phone now. Now, Which ROM should I install?
Thanks for your help.
Updated update.
The rom I tried to install is HyperDroid-CM7-Licking-Lobster-v5.6.0-cLK-signed
When I started my phone, it just goes back and forth between a screen with an "H" on a twirling cube, and that splashing into the Android dude...and splashing back. Left it for 45 minutes.
Now, clk says it installs, but when I start, I'm back to the Android/H loop.
Like I said, I need someone to walk me through this.
Reinstalled. Same loop. Trying the Nexus Rom.
If I try to boot through HBoot to NAND I get:
Normal boot ...
ERROR: Invalid boot image heador
R u using the correct model(EU or tmobile)?

t mobile USA cut their own deal with HTC, to make a hd2 with double internal rom and a little more ram. (And in teh process gave their customers a device with an insta-kill switch, which they no doubt regretted when thousands were returned bricked in teh first few months of release)
if your hd2 has red+green end+send keys, and says 't mobile' beneath the earpiece, its a 'tmous' (T MObile US) which is slightly different to teh rest of teh worlds hd2's.
If you have white keys, you have a regular hd2.
Ok.. so.
I had a not-working clockwork mod, and like an idiot I used the rom manager via android to flash a new rom. So - that rom is stuck in its boot up logo over and over (team kang). And isn't moving despite waiting 10 minutes, and my clockwork mod is non functional. I can see the options in CMW but if I click one of them - I dont get the options to chose a zip/it does reboot. It simply gives me the hat with the refresh logo and no options. So CWM is not functional.
Fastboot boots, but recovery sends me to non functional CWM.
S = off, and the phone is/was rooted.
Any advise?
I hope someone is awake... lol
Try to use adb/fastboot to flash 4ext recovery. Or a new cwm recovery. You really need a functioning recovery.
Sent from my HTC GLACIER using xda premium
Just sayin.. 4ext is a better recovery. However, if you prefer cwm, that is up to you. But if you can use adb to flash recovery, please do it, then from hboot go into recovery and flash a known working Rom...
Sent from my HTC GLACIER using xda premium
So your saying volume down while power on, boot up adb on the computer/fastboot on the phone and I can somehow push a 4ext to the phone? I'll give it a try but I'm lost at the moment.
Closest I came up with was downloading the stock rom/putting it on SD card and loading it up that way.
I'll go back to DEV and check into how to flash it, but I was under the impression you had to have a working rom.
...are you making selections in recovery using the trackpad?
There is no trackpad? Volume up and down.
I just flashed 2 versions of CWM and finally got options with the touch version - then of course I lost MY sd card somewhere? Which is such a joy because I'll never find it. So I am now going to load up a rom on the SD card then install it.
Ok, got the rom installed, for my personal SD card - the other phone is booting up now, if it doesn't work atleast I can mount the SD card through CMW and such. TY original poster, I didn't actually realize you could flash files directly from the computer to the phone.
This all started when I rooted this phone because it was having battery issues/wasn't running right, then it needed to update but wouldn't because CWM was installed - so I tried to put a different rom on it but that didn't work.
YES!!!! It has booted into android just now. Score.

ok my evo has been messing up alot lately. it all started with the front camera like 2 weeks ago the front camera does not work at all and certain roms will not boot. i flashed roms almost every week and always superwiped and everything. i am using Amon RA 3.11 right now i am running MetrogenMod (CM7). Yesterday my phone was in a bootloop that would only boot at the splash screen and reboot over and over again. It became a "usb brick" and it wouldnt detect the sd in recovery but i was able to fix it using adb in fastboot with this guide. flashed the rom all over and now its working except for the ffc. i think some of the files in the internal memory are corrupted but i have not been able to find anything to fix it. i have flashed many roms, RUU, updated radios. i am running out of ideas. Can anyone help me?
my phone:

Hboot 6.16.1002
radio: 2.15.00.0808
HW: 004
by the way the roms i can run are: Radiance(sense 3.5), Energy (sense3.5) MIUI ICS, CM7.1, CM7.2 rc1, Metrogenmod, stock, 4korners,
this roms only boot up for 3 minutes and then reboot over and over every 3 minutes (yes they boot correctly but as i am trying to set it up it reboots): MIUI GB, rainy day, TN shooter rom for evo 4g
Try doing a fresh install with re formatting your sd card as well. Use Amon Ra to format sd and upgrade to ext 3.
Of course back up what you want on sd, but remember, not all data transfers from one version of android to another well. i.e. app data from gb won't function well on ICS and the opposite too.
Though ultimately, it could be a hardware failure. In which case take out to Sprint and get it replaced... That is about all you can do at that point.

Hi guys,
First of all, i apologize if I post in a wrong forum, kind of new in XDA. Wanted to thank you all, because, even though, I didn't register, your forum helps me A LOT with android phones... I'm facing a situation with an HTC, and as I surfed the web, and no one seems to have the same problem, I'm adressing it in this forum.
I bought an refurbished mytouch 4g glacier on amazon. When it came, in addition to be locked (not a big problem), I couldn't enter the settings (the linked program is no longer installed on your phone) and worst, there is no dialpad. I assumed that the owner tried to flash it with a corrupt version...
As it is for me a brain challenge, i decided to try to fix it...
I made a factory reset with the buttons (pwr+vol down), same thing! I tried recovery, I think with the S-ON, it didn't work (red triangle). I tried to use wifi to download things or a file manager, but you'll need to access the settings options, and I don't have access. I download SDK manager, but the phone needs to be usb debugging to be found by pc, and I can't access the settings options. I download an usb debugging apk, put it in the sd card, but as there is no file explorer, I could access it...
This is why I asked your help. This is a Glacier pvt ship s-on, with green fonts, (cyanogen 7?: there were a difference with green fonts and orange fonts...)
Thanks in advance.

Ditto. If you don't know whether the phone is rooted, I would just flash the PD15IMG of the stock 2.3.4 ROM by loading the file onto the root of the SD card and booting into the bootloader (volume down + power). Then if after you are sure it works you want to root it, you can always go on from there.
In terms of figuring out which ROM you have, since you can't get to the 'about phone', if your boot animation just has the Tmobile MyTouch 4g logo on a white background, followed by a circular green MyTouch logo, then you are probably on the stock ROM. If it was CM7 or anything else, it would usually have a different custom boot animation.
Good luck!
You can also tell which stock version you are running: 2.2.1 has no quick settings tab in the notification drawer while 2.3.4 does.

Thank you for your quick answer... I have already done this 5 days ago. I downloaded the PD15img, put it in the sd card (actually, i didn't know which extension to put in the sd card, so i unzip the file and i let the zip one: i put both in the sd assuming the phone will use the best extension it needs!). I use pwr+ vol down, nothing happen.
Any ideas? Maybe if i found an update version of the pd15img?
Thanks for your help
Guys, I'm blessed...Not because I found the solution yet, but because I found you thinking with me!
It seems I have the 2.3.4, because, as you said, I have the quick drawer icon. I have already try the bootloader, but i will try again from the beginning. I will download again the pd15img (if it was a problem while downloading) and revert to you in 2 hours.
Thank you again!
It should be a file named PD15IMG.zip. Any file by that name placed in the root of the sd card will be flashed through the hboot bootloader. Don't unzip it. If it is named exactly that, when you boot into the bootloader via vol down + power, it should scan for it, and if it detects the file, it will ask if you want to update.
Be sure you are using the right PD15IMG.zip file (2.3.4 Stock). There are a lot of files by that name, since it is used to flash all kinds of things (radios, etc.). Looks like it might be available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476745&highlight=pd15img&page=10

I do have the Tmobile MyTouch 4g logo on a white background, followed by a circular green MyTouch logo. I'm on the stock rom then? Is that make any difference or I can still process with downloading pd15img? Anyway, that's worth the try!
I'll keep you posted
It does sound like you are definitely on stock 2.3.4 since you have the stock boot animation, and the notification bar quick drawer that was introduced with gingerbread 2.3.4.
It only makes a difference if you aren't rooted. If you weren't rooted and flashed a different ROM it probably wouldn't work, and you could get stuck in a boot loop (couldn't get past the hboot menu). But, the fix would be to flash the stock PD15IMG anyway, so you should be fine. Either way, nothing is going to happen unless you flash something, because it sounds like system files have been deleted.
I'm still kind of a noob, but I feel pretty confident with that. I've messed up before and recovered from hboot with a PD15IMG file. Your hboot and recovery sound like they are stock. Just be sure once you have it working that you remove or rename the PD15IMG file from your sdcard, otherwise it will keep trying to flash it when you boot into the bootloader.

I followed your link and downloaded the pd15img from there. i placed it in the sd...It detects it like earlier and still give me the message: sd checking....loading pd15img.zip....no image or wrong file image.
Any more ideas?
Some ideas here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035044
one person suggested making sure the sd card is FAT32 formatted, seemed to help his issue.
Also, you might want to be sure that even if it gives you that error message, there isn't a loading bar on the right hand side of the screen making progress. If I recall the last time I did it, it wasn't obvious it had worked, and loaded for a few minutes before popping up with 'do you want to update?'
Did you try both the 2.3.4 and the '2.3.4 new' file found on the aforementioned page?

Good and bad news!!!
The good news: It really makes a difference indeed to format the sd in Fat32. Although i formated it many times, as I used to see FAT, I didn't know there were another option for FAT32. Well, after format it in FAT32, i put the file in the sd card: pd15img loads successfully...
Bad news: I hurrily check if I can access the option: "the linked program is no longer installed on your phone".
At least, we know formating sd card in FAT32 does make a difference!.
Maybe I should try another new rom like 2.3.6?
Any ideas is welcomed!
Thank you
Wow, head scratcher. If you were rooted with a custom recovery I'd say you probably need to format the system partition and wipe data and cache before flashing, but obviously you can't do that. Might be worth trying a few times to force it through?
I think this is out of my league at this point. Hopefully someone smarter than me will pop in!
Only other thought is maybe something can be done through fastboot? But I wouldn't know what.

Yes I did! I even try the 2.2.1...All of them load successfully, but still without succes. It's like they are installed somewhere in the phone, but the original that has the problem never moved.
Is that because S is on?

Thank you a lot for your help. It's been useful cause I learned a lot, much more than alone. If I get through this, I will post.
My next thinking is to download USB debug apk into the phone, so maybe, it will enable the option and I could use adb. But in order to do that, i should pay to unlock it...(wondering if it worth it). As soon as i put a sim in it, i know my carrier would install the apn settings for me automatically, so i would be online and be able to download. I try the wifi options, but i couldn't connect.
Could you help me with the unlock?
Thanks in advance
I think that recovery file is for 2.2.1......
Get S-Off bro. Doesn't the stock image have a file explorer? I don't remember.
