I just though the Google Now backgrounds might make a nice dynamic background for my N7.
Does anyone know if anyone has done this?
I use paperland but I find animated backgrounds to be a bit laggy on the N7 so the GNow one might be a nice compromise.
I know blackbear has a gnex and has done this. Not sure if it was dynamic. I think so. I came across his g+ page and saw that he did it a few weeks ago.
I found this site, which appears to have everything I need to make it happen
http://mycolorscreen.com/2012/08/10/google-now-live-2/
I went there and downloaded the wallpapers and they aren't very clear they look upscaled. I really hope someone can vector those images and turn that into a functional live wallpaper, that would be outstanding. I'd rather not have to install some other apps to manage my wallpapers.
I was in London at the weekend and the top of the google now page was London themed.
Would be interesting if Google Now actually populated useful cards once in awhile.

It gives me a map and directions to appointments in my calendar, that's pretty useful to me anyway.
It also tells me what the weather was like several hours ago, which is useful if I build a time machine and just want to go back a few hours to test it.

I was working on one, but the small details weren't turning out well. So I did a basic image of the large parts and it looked alright, maybe I will upload it later
I did it guys !

So I've updated to 1.5 which has successfully fixed a lot of bugs and enabled bluetooth stereo
I've also setup the apps2sd and am working off of a 16GB sdcard (15GB Fat, 1GB EXT2). Now my only problem is what do I do with a million apps? Obviously there are some apps that I'll use more than others that I've put on my desktop, but there are quite a few other apps (compass, anycut, speedproof, etc) that I won't use all the time but I'll still use for various functions.
Does anybody know a good way of organizing apps so that they are easier to find than just scrolling thru the whole list?
Folders on home screen?
Yeah, I ended up dropping folders on the desktop. I guess that will work until someone develops something more interesting.

the only problem with that, is when you have a bunch of folders full of apps on the home screen. it takes a while for "home" to load. i used to have mine set up like that, but when ever i'd predd the home key, i'd get a blank wallpaper. it would take like 10-20 sec for all the icons to show up. i installed an app called moov. all you do is open it up and type what you are looking for, it comes right up, weather it be an app or a contact or email whatever...
I think they should allow you to create different views for the Apps page that you cycle through with a left or right swipe. So you have the current All apps mega list like now and other category views like Games, Tools, GPS, etc. The categories can come from the Market place as well as user-defined categories.
Imagine when you are able to install a lot of apps and have a really really long list to scroll through. What a pain. Category views will help break down the scrolling.
Check out some of the alternative Launchers such as aHome, Open Home, and dxTop. Among other features they give you more "screens" (up to 7) and app trays to help organize your shortcuts better. Another one called Sweeter Home which takes it to a whole new level.
Be glad we don't have the iphone..
I installed SweeterHome and played around with it for a couple of minutes. It has potential but it's still definitely in beta. I was disappointed by the setup process. I'll wait until it gets further along before trading out my default home.

Sweeter Home is definitely in early beta, especially when it comes to the IU for customizing it. Configuration takes a while to get used to, but well worth it in the end. Check out the videos on their home page.

why? u can hide apps from the home screen and put them in folders.
I've been searching, and have seen lots of threads about similar problems with the Evo and it's fairly low-color screen, but I was under the impression that the Droid X has a 24bit color screen so this shouldn't be an issue.
Anyway, I've got some wallpapers (cropped and resized for the Droix X from the originals at Ultralinx)
They look fantastic on the computer. They're the right dimensions. Tried saving as JPG and 24 bit PNG, but the outcome is the same. When I copy them to the phone and set them as wallpaper, the gradients don't look smooth; there is color banding all over the place.
I've got screenshots and originals up on the web, but can't link to them until my account is approved by a mod.
EDIT: Added attachments instead, but the forum super-compressing the images doesn't help their clarity at all.
Hey,
i've got the same problem.
That's not funny at all, I really don't know how to save it, that it looks like on my desktop pc!

Sorry to be off topic but I cant help but stare at your notification bar. What theme is it?
It's my own notificationbar.
Have to search the files first
It doesn't seem to be the screen. I dropped those images into my dropbox, and opened them in whatever viewer dropbox opened by default. The image was smooth as I zoomed in, until I zoomed in far enough to see a moire pattern. I also opened it in Astra's built in viewer; again there was no banding. However, when I set the image to be my wallpaper, I see the same banding you are seeing.
Bad news is, I don't know what the problem is; good news is it doesn't seem to be a screen limitation.
Thanks so far!
But what's the problem than?
I really have no idea :/
Ah ha! Google turned up this app: "Wallpaper Set and Save" (Sorry, can't post a link because I'm new, apparently. I attached an image of the QR code instead.)
It says it hasn't been updated for 2.x, but it worked fine on my droid x (running the stock rom with launcher pro.) Using it to set the exact same wallpaper, I now see no banding (although I did in the preview screen.) It's worth a try, although I'd still like to know what is causing this issue (since it obviously isn't a hardware issue.)
I attached a screen capture so you can see for yourself.
Edit: The forum's image compression adds some artifacts; it looks even smoother on my screen capture. Even here it's a big improvement over the others though!
Its probably the gallery app that is re-compressing the wallpaper and creating the bands
My wallpaper changes by itself to some random picture that I don't even have. I use the Water live wallpaper with the autumn leaves and then at some point throughout the day I go to look at my phone and there is a random picture as a wallpaper instead. It has happened to me about three different times all different days. Has this happened to anyone else? If so how do I fix it?
I apologize if a similar question has been posted before but I looked and haven't found anything.
Any other phone... and I would say you're running out of RAM memory and phone pushes live paper out of the system (which would be replaced with your stock wallpaper) but this phone has so much memory that it hardly would be the case. 2 things I can think of:
1. Your live wallpaper may have some sort of bug in it and forcecloses every now and then (is this from the market? read comments!!!)
2. You're using a task killer/manager of some sorts and it's killing the live wallpaper process.
Does this help at all?
Good luck.
Hey Borodin1 Thanks for your quick reply. I feel like an idiot. I figured out the problem. It was an app called astronomy picture of the day. There is an option that enables the picture of the day to upload as your wallpaper automatically. I installed a bunch of apps at one time and I didn't really explore astronomy picture of the day so I wasn't aware it was doing that. lol So that explains the astronomy type pictures my wallpaper kept changing to every single day. lol
Is it possible to create, save and switch between different sets of home screens and setting.
HTC Sense has "Scenes" that allows this, even my old Nokia E71 had two profiles that allowed for a completely different home screen and settings.
Is there anyway of doing this with the Nexus 4?
I would like to have a set of home screens and settings with the stuff I use at work, then be able to switch to another profile that has different home screens and settings for the road trips, and another for home.
I have seen apps that allow for all the settings to be switched, but have not had any luck with changing the home screen.
-BEGIN RANT-:crying:
Am I the only one that desires to customize my phone for completely different segments of my life and be able to switch between them with ease?
OK really, I need to learn to develop this stuff, because there are many basic tasks I thought would be standard issue by now on these little computers we carry with us, but not.
-END OD RANT-
So my Nexus 4 should be arriving today, so i guess I will start to play with it. I read about installing separate launchers and switching between them with Tasker.
Can more then one instance of a single app, like a launcher, be installed by changing something in some setting once I am rooted?
Any thought, ideas to give me another direction to search?
any good "learn everything there is to know about android development in one day" classes or books?

Most custom ROMs have profiles for just this. You can easily switch between them by pulling down the notification bar and clicking on a quick tile. I know for sure that carbon does this and assume most of the major releases will as well.
Carbonized and francofied N4
Chameleon Launcher allows this.
Thanks for the suggestions.

It seems to, but it seems to be not very reliable at the moment from what I read. It is also a big change from the standard android feel I like.
I still might give it a try though, I like that they are trying something different. Looks almost like a windows/android warp

I have seen roms and launchers that promote their "profiles" feature, but all them do not seem to go as far as allowing me to save a whole set of home screen configurations, then change from one set to the other with ease. They seem to be just a collection of settings like volumes, sounds, radios on/off and such.
I will look into carbon to see if it can indeed do this.
I find it hard to actually find a detailed listing of what different roms can do. most of the info is just how to install, bugs and more technical development stuff.
My new baby was sitting all bundled up on the table when I got home today. I haven't even had a chance to turn her on yet. still admiring the curves

I'm sure you'll be happ. Best phone I've ever had. And you are right about the profiles being mostly setting. Carbon is like that too. The only work around I can think of is a launcher. I use nova it is rock solid. You can back up the configuration and restore in less than a minute.

I think the stock EPD browser works quite well, or at least it's best there is right now. You can access it by opening Chrome on the color screen and then activating mirroring.

I will post it here, if i'm finish and upload it to the playstore.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-yobrowser-special-browser-phone-t3169173
It has an interface for the epd screen. See the screenshots ,
Thanks, giving it a try right now.
Nice with a browser with a little bigger text with more contrast on the epd.
Would be extra nice with a way to change font size or similar.
Many thanks for the time spent.
getting there but still a lot of grain effect on screen
think idea below are good
