Hello everyone, I tried Crazy miui, Dzo's Aurora, and now I'm testing Elora. Also used oxygen and CM7.
Almost all the updates were done without any problems.
Now I have some questions.
Can I install custom applications for SMS, calling, contacts, internet browser, even launcher and other apps and replace them with the ones that I don't like?
Edit: When I say to replace I mean using titanium backup to uninstall those apps.

Yes you can. But keep the system launcher. Don't forget to do a nandroid backup.

Coming from Symbian, I was surprised that the Desire did not appear to support themes. Until I installed AuraxTSense and found it was themed. So can custom themes.be installed? This involves flashing? Is that safe or can that cause instability?

Generally themes have to be made for a particular rom, as most roms use slightly diffrent framework-res.apk's, themes do have to be flashed through recovery because it dangerous to try and modify system files while they are in use. it can cause instability but you should always do a nandroid before anyway
Nandroid backup is the backup accessible from ROM Manager right? I now do regular Nandroid AND Titanium backups... The extra backup capability alone was a good reason to root.
Theoretically that also means I can migrate settings between compatible ROMs? Every time I wipe the phone it takes a week of poking around to get it all set up again how I need it.
So as for themes then, is it advisable to steer clear if we want stability? Can flashing themes cause any issues?
Are there any themes for AuraxTSense?
is it possible to uninstall all orange applications which were on I5801BVJP9 firmware through Titanium Backup application...??? or should i use Root Explorer and go to \sys\app and delete concerned application.... Pls suggest or give me proper solution
Use Uninstaller for Root from the Market. It works a treat.

thanx... i will try.....
I removed the Orange apps successfully with Titanium Backup.
So this is also a solution...
i used root uninstaller and uninstalled many orange applications which i dont wanted....
that would be cool but the BVJP9 has some bugs of its own..better to stick with the custom roms
dont know how to choose custom rom..... there are many.... can you suggest which one is best.....
[email protected][email protected]!
i use the root explorer to delete those apps.it greats work
Titanium backup worked for me

what kind of bugs?
For a custom rom lestatious is a good rom.... As for orange crapware you can remove everything except home screen switcher...if you remove that then you'll have some problems...

Hey,
i´ve tried some MIUI roms and i really like their style.. but i wish there were not "iphone-style" app drawer (all apps on pages) but rather a "normal" app drawer like in adw launcher/launcher pro (one button to "join" all apps in a vertical menu).
is there a way (mod/app) to get such a "button"?
also is there an icon-set with "normal" (stock) icons?
and whats about the battery drain... my installed rom drained about 100-200 in standby without WLAN/GPS. that shouldnt be normal, or?
hope you can help me and sry for noob questions
greedings
Just install adw or launcher pro or go launcher... Your applications will be in a drawer... These home replacement applications do have theme of their own... Some are free in the market... As for battery drain... Idk I always carry a spare battery... if I'm not on the net... My phone last the whole day

edit:
the suggest rom looks really great. (this)
do you know if im able to change the look of the dock-bar ? (i´ll try it myself but maybe i get some quick answer ^^)
edit II:
another, general, question.
if i did a full backup of my hyperdroid, am i able to restore data partition to restore my settings and app data?
(restoring sd-ext worked)?
Miui theme still work. Hyperdroid is also a great rom
HTC HD2 Miui 1.7.8
[email protected]
i installed miui rom. and its rly nice.
batterydrain in standby: 5mA !!! (on hyperdroid i got 15-64mA).
now im mixing up the standard apps from hyperdroid and miui and customize the dock icons a bit and et voila - i got a hyperdroid MIUI
Not to destroy your joy but miui is generally slower than CM7 based builds
mh drain gets higher .. ^^
slower? quadrant score is about the same as hyperdroid cm7 ^^
now flashing my mixed version
maybe is it possible to copy the settings.apk from miui build to the hyperdroid rom i really like that settings layout oô
edit:
ok it dosnt work :/ so i try to install it step by step
edit ii:
ok i stay at hyperdroid :x XD
edit iii:
trying modify miui again now
ok i found some nice solution for my "app launcher" problem.
using the default home launcher with this app now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154299

other question..
i´ve got a full nandroid backup of my CM7 hyperdroid rom (cwm recovery backup) am i able to restore sd-ext AND data partition to
get my "old" apps with their settings etc back?
ok it didnt work with restoring data
whats about hiding apps... ?
boyppc-shiftpda MIUI V12
Hi there
i need to ask a question with regards to the boyppc-shiftpda MIUI V12 update if any one is using it is the ASD2+ working for you am still getting the internal memory of the device even when i used the DATA2SD folder supplied by BoyPPC but still it is not working unlike the DHD Rom by BoyPPC it is working using the DATA2SD folder on root .
i really like MIUI the themes are amazing it is like using a new phon every day but also i need the space for my applications and games so unfortunately i had to stick to the DHD rom hoping to get a solution to make the MIUI use my 2GB EXT3 partition i have on my SD
awaiting your reply

You can try advanced restore in CWM to try to restore your settings and apps. The problem is that you changed from a CM7 build to MIUI, so some apps will force close. You can try to reinstall them and reset the data.
Best to do is to backup the miui ROM too, try to restore the data from the cm7 build, and if it goes wrong, restore the miui build. (Use advanced restore to restore only certain parts of the backup)
just use titanium backup to restore your apps. works great for me even when switching between cm and miui.
and as already said just use another launcher if you don't like the iphone style. i use golauncher and you still have the different lockscreens your themed taskbar, miui settings and every other advantages of a miui build. it has also an implemented feature to hide apps that you don't want in your app drawer
and miui is not slower than a cm build but the battery drain is much lower for me.
mh im back on cm7 now :/ but im switching between these roms
the only "bad" thing at miui is, that you´re not able to hide apps at homescreens
(i know thats iphone-typical... but i dont have an iphone ).
so there should be a way to hide icons/apps - and NOT with folders.. ^^
i just want ONE page with some apps and clock widget... now ~5 pages with apps or
messed up folders with non used apps :/
the alternative app drawer rocks - using it with cm7 also now
the restore in cwm with sd-ext and data dont work - only able to restore sd-ext (dont have any FC).
so i´ll just w8 maybe there will be sometimes a option to hide apps :/
Best way is to put all your apps in a folder called apps or have a few folders called things like social, news, and games

yeah i know but i dont really like such a dirty solution there should be a better way possible ^^
i tried to put all my apps (arround 50-60 (with rom standard apps)) into a folder.. if i opened it, it seems to be really lagful.. so im just waiting for some other way.. ^^
I'm on ei22 acs ics and recently have been getting a bunch of force closes on email, calendar and google framework...so I was just going to backup everything and then reflash but titanium backup is also force closing. :/
Is there any way to either make it so I can use titanium backup? or another app that's somewhat as good, because I really like ti

You can try Mybackup Root. Also see if you can clear data in Titanium Backup or uninstall and reinstall.

I would update to a new rom. ACS ICS is really old.

I just want to say I haven't been to happy with tb lately myself. Kinda disappointing considering how expensive it is to buy the full version.

i use root explorer( or your favorite file manager) and manually back up my apps. made a folder on sd called apks and copy apps from /data/app. i never backup data but if you want to /data/user/0. instead of freezing i just delete. i can always extract file i need from original rom.zip if something goes wrong. using root explorer instead of an app takes longer but is a good way to get familiar with androids file system and saves space from installing another app to do something another app you probably already have can do.
you can use an older version of titanium backup:

Thanks for all the advice, been really busy so I haven't had the time to backup yet but I wanted to know what you would reccomend for a new rom for me?
I was looking for something that doesn't really have any problems and is fairly new. I heard good things about cm9 but not sure how finalized that is...any suggestions?
Thanks again!

I have been using mybackup pro for a while now without any problems. Even though it's not recommended, I was able to successfully restore data for most apps when switching from stock to CM9. The only data that wouldn't restore seemed to be for ROMS that use logins or have secure data. Plus, you can backup and restore SMS and phone logs.
As far as CM9, I switched back to stock after a day. Beta 0 is awesome but nothing I did would stop it from killing my battery. If you can deal with that, give it a try.
CM9 is awesome but still not very good on battery as Poit mentioned. That one and CM7 are AOSP meaning no Touchwiz bloat but also no Touchwiz apps or functionality, based on pure Google like the Nexus S. If you like the apps and interface of Touchwiz I would go with CleanGB or Sleeper ROM (full) at the moment.

Rom Toolbox...
Rom Toolbox is pretty much an all-in-one app that replaces TB and other apps. Taking up less space on your phone. The paid version allows you to Apply On Boot. Give it a try, you may find that more to your liking.
if you only want to backup your apps i've used app backup and works well.
Hi guys,
I am quite new in flashing ROM's on android devices and I have doubts regarding the following:
If I backup all apps and data installed on the actual ROM, can I restore them after I flash another ROM? Especially if I go from a Sense 3.0 to a Sense 3.5 ROM...
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
I think its ok to restore the apps but not the data. This is what I do (with titanium) and have never noticed a problem.

do you know if Titanium helps to backup/restore contacts and SMS as well?
market search titanium backup
but problem backup android 2.3.x
restore 4.03 ????
failure
If ure trying to back up and restore data, u should try using "mybackup root" in the market. U can back up ur text messages then restore it in any rom( cm7/cm9/sense). Ive been using that since I bought this phone.
Oh and u can backup other stuff with that app as well.

I always restore apps and data and have never had a problem. What you should not do is restore system apps. Everything else is fine
thanks guys for your feedback
