What it's special about paranoid ports? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I see a lot of threads at development section about this "paranoid" ports, even i had to read a little fight between some porters about it.
But, I really want to know what it's this about? What paranoid ports have to give to users? It's really worth trying that?

It lets you use your phone in tablet mode. You can select which apps can use tablet UI and which needs normal phone UI. Check its screenshots.

SlideScreen Pro based ROM anyone?

Starting this week, hopefully, I wanna begin work on a 2.3 ROM for X8 featuring the SlideScreen Pro setup, but improving on a couple things, such as:
1) App interface Clean milky-white interface all around, with classic gray and orange colors. GingerBread (etc) options integrated into SlideScreen style
2) Gmail notifications to main screen Revert Gmail notifications from StatusBar onto main screen
3) Revamping looks, feel, and functionality Improving overall menu-ergonomics, giving it a SlideScreen-MIUI feel and look
Anybody wanting and willing to collaborate is more then welcome.
I'll post some preliminary interface pics after Tuesday, March 6th, since I gotta get a separate laptop running Linux, due to daughter needing play games on the PC . Once I do some basic mods to the SlideScreen interface, I'll test it on GB. Once I get the appropriate performance, I'll post Alpha.
like it
i like slidescreen
i like ur idea
may i give u more idea..
can you make it more ICSish..
ill wait..
maybe i can become the first tester..

No sorry not making a rom, was interested initially because I was looking for a good modded version of the launcher fully functional with no fc. I use 1.26 now but I want 2.0 full with no fc in Facebook.

The Stock Project

Hi guys, am working on a project for our galaxy note ii, my goal is to make our phone as customizable as possible without the use of third party applications.Everything stock...
Heres a picture of my progress so far..
cheers
that looks great, reminds me of the simplistic framework mod by legendk95 which is a great project, too. it would be nice to hear what you are planning to implement in your work in the future. thanks.
Damn that looks sick keep it up

Nice one!
Is the horizontal launcher still bugged though? (eg, apps down the bottom half off the screen)
Also, I long for a toggle for the battery icon.
:good:
Wish u success with this project.
I rather use an stock rom with few mods than a custom rom with 100 extra features that only a few know what are really doing.

Are there any hacks/plans on getting multi window support for the 10? That would be sweeeeeet.

This can be achieved by apps. Super video is a floating video player, air calc is a floating calculator, floating banner gives you a onscreen menu to start apps and view widgets.
/edit: oh yeah, forgot about floating browser.

I have always wondered why android does everything full screen. On a phone with limited real estate OK I can see that but on a tablet with a lot more real estate why don't we have a more desktop like experience? Ii hope key lime pie bakes in multi window functionality because its quite silly to waste so much space since there are plenty of people who truly like to multitask.

I agree, a multi window mode would be awesome.

Its the app developers that need to implement it, not the rom. The functionality is already built into android.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
But if the app developers dont use this function then what is there to do about it?
Could it be built into the launcher so that all apps will have a frame around it where you can change between full screen and windowed mode? Just like in Windows

??? I get the translation of "La Polla" to be "****" ???
+1 for the option, I would also like my launcher to be split as well. I like to have a 12 x 6 grid of icons, would love the launcher to rotate as two separate 6 x 6 grids
This won't happen until Google makes it in Android. The only way to make it responsibly is to implement it as an opt-in api. But, only Samsung or Google have the clout to make such an API and actually get developers to use it.
CyanogenMod developers wanted to improve Cornerstone but we were literally threatened by a Google employee on Google+. While Cornerstone was exciting at first, I see where the Google employee was coming from. Multiwindow, if done badly, will cause even more fragmentation issues for application developers.

That's right. But in Spain (I don't know if it's the same in South America), it's used as an equivalent of "sweet" or "cool" times one thousand.
It's really common, but not usually used in written form.

Any app, kernel or ROM support this?
I have a number of apps where I'd like to keep them running in the background, minimised or windowed but keep running, and currently they basically close themselves if I swap to other apps. Examples are Hulu and Slingplayer. I think I know why Hulu behaves like that.... its to try to bully you into watching the commercials, not sure why Slingpayer does it though.
On a desktop OS like Ubuntu or Windows I can just run multiple apps concurrently and they run independently of if on the screen or not. Good for doing something else whilst Hulu plays its commercials.
I've been searching and seems the OS has the hooks but the app must enable itself? Is there a ROM which allows it? OmniROM seems to??
I've only played with stock Android and a few kernels so far.
I got a Nexus 7 I can brick as a playing system til I find a solution to then put on my N10.

See my signature below for a link to a working split-view custom ROM (Tempest). It can be tempermental as it is still a work in progress. For YouTube in split-view use an alternative playstore app called Viral. In my opinion it is better than Google's app anyway as it provides the options users have requested for a long time.
Tried to find appropriate thread but this might be the closest. My N10 is still rooted & running 4.3.1 and I haven't found a compelling reason to update to 4.4.x because of the slew of reported problems others have experienced with their updates. Also I don't want to lose the split window settings menu unique to the larger tablets, which I understand has been lost with 4.4. Has that split menu settings been restored in later updates of 4.4?

Possibly a ROM.

Hey whats up? I'm SirHoover and I am an Atrix HD dev. I've taken a liking to the i (although I don't own one) and your development is just depressing. Might be able to either work with someone getting a usable ROM out there, or build one and have it tested (remember I don't have an i). PM me or comment if anyone is interested in me working on your phone or wants to help.
I agree with the lack of ROM development. I would love to help out but I have zero coding skills. Anything music related I can help out, ha. (Ringtones and notification sounds anyone?)
Hope you can get a hold of a razr i for development.

There's definitely interest. Unfortunately I haven't any applicable skills to offer. Happy to test flash, provide logcats etc if something gets built. Though it would be intermittent around when the phone needs to be used as a phone

There's not much bloat on the stock ROM from the retail units and we already have 2 ROMs that did away with that tiny bit of bloat plus are deodexed (and one of them has the 4.2 camera and gallery). So you have at least 2 ROMs you could use as a base.

Not using those ROMs as base. I wont deodex Joker either, it runs faster odexed. Possibly could add in some mods. Idk I need a full system pull from a linux machine to look at. Joker isn't hard to create, just will be a pain to make anything without the phone lol.

I would love to see a fully working cricle widget on third party launchers (e.g. Holo launcher). Maybe there is some time for that

Motorola is the one who needs to allow that.
Why would you want the circle widget? Ugly waste of space. Cool feature is weather and that drains battery. I would like to have 1% battery mod so there is one more useless feature.
the best features oft a Rom are Speed stability and light battery use, getting rid of bloatware. in case of the razr i getting the FM radio back.
Please, make Cm 10.1 a reality!

if i get my hands on this, i think i can try to set up something and try to build roms for razr i xt890.
If there isn't a cm 10 to build off of, I can't do build from source yet. I can def make a sick stock ROM build.
