Widgets and Orientations - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to have Widgets be a different size in a horizontal layout than when i rotate, the same widget change sizes in a landscape layout? I use Widgets HD and while I love the way it looks in landscape, when I rotate it becomes a big stretched mess of fugly. Maybe even have a whole different layout for the two different orientations???

Lcddensity

Hi guys,
I'm trying out LCDDensity and it works well except the space on each screen for icons does not change? By this i mean, when the resolution was at 240, i could fit 5 icons across. Now that i've changed it to 180, there is extra space on the right hand side but i can't put any icons on there.
Is that correct or is there a way around it?
That is correct. The stock launched has designated a 5x5 icon space on the homescreen. Changing your density won't change that.

I have mine set to 220. Doesn't add much real estate on the screen but the picture does look more crisp.

I've set mine to 182, so the camera app still looks nice and downloaded AWD launcher. This way I can change the number of icons to 8x8 instead of the stock 5x5 icons.

Desktop Visualizer help

I'm using this app which rocks!!! I want to start customizing it even more but run into two issues:
1 - anyone know what the default icon size is? 12x12? 24x24? Etc?
2 - how do you get around the widget gap? I have two icons side by side and they are not flush.
Thanks!!!

1. Don't know the size for icons, but the area is 126x97, with 1 pixels between boxes.
2. Can't get around the space lengthways because it's designed for square icons.
Use one of the launcher programs that allows you to change # of rows/columns to make them square.
Look in the home screen posting thread, someone made all different sized icons for DV that have no spacing. They are all different sizes, 2x1, 2x2, and 3x3

[Q] a launcher that handles homescreen rotation well

I'm looking for a launcher which has a good implementation on retaining the icons and stuff when changing orientation. I've only tried the stock, LauncherPro, and Apex... None of them does what I really want when changing between landscape and portrait mode:
Shows the wallpaper in its entirety across multiple screens, possibly scrolling screens vertically in portrait.
Makes no change to layout of the icons when changing orientation, only re-orient them.
Can someone suggest a launcher that handles this well? Thanks.

Nova Launcher with Ultimate rotation control.

ssLauncher does that well. You can have a totally different set of icons and wallpapesr on each screen, each orientation. Save your theme. Change every icon picture, size, font... place anywhere (no grid), overlap... you name it, it does it.
Or Apex. No rotation issues at all. I set my homescreen grid to 8x7 for both portrait and landscape. Very nice.

Lock Screen Clock font

Is there a way to change the lock screen clock font? The one there now is too narrow for my liking, Id like one with a bolder font.
You can remove the stock clock widget and replace it with a more customizable one. I like Dashclock.

I like dashclock, but how do I remove the stock clock and out dashclock on the lockscreen? I dont want to use it on the homepages, just the lockscreen.
Nice avatar, I think I liked the original BSG better though!

Launcher WIDGETS

Is there a launcher that allows widgets to not have margins? I want my widgets to be close together. I cant find a way to do it.
You have to use something like nova and choose like a 10x10 grid..that's the only way I think would work.

Im using nova and any grid size just doesn't work right. Say you have a 4x2 widget. Then you set Nova to 10x10. Now set the 4x2 widget. To make it look right the size changes to 10x3. Just doesnt work. Basically I want to put 3 widgets on my screen. one thats a 5x2, 5x3 and 5x3. So I would need a grid size of 8x5. But If I set it to that the widgets dont fit at all. Its because the widgets have to be re-sized so big to look right.
BUMP Until I get a answer
The only suggestion I could find for your question isn't free. Next Launcher allows you to freehand resize all widgets (meaning does not "snap to grid" resize) , even overlap. This is the lite version so you can try before you buy...

Lefty is exactly right. I've been using next launcher 3D and that's actually one of my favorite features that NO other launchers can accomplish (that I know of).
Some widgets just have funky dimensions, so it's nice to able to resize and place them literally anywhere on the screen. They can partially overlap as much or as little as you'd like.
This can also be done with apps...it looks messy, but you can turn off the grid completely and place the app icons wherever you want. You can even rotate the icons! And I won't even get into all the 3d features...I could go on forever. This is by far my favorite launcher and I've used quite a few.

The issue im having is this. No matter what launcher I use. Next 3D included. If I make the GRID Size 10 x 5 I should be able to have many widgets on my screen. So a 4x2 weather and a 4x3 Pulse and then a 3x4 Hangouts Widget and then a 2x2 photo. So I should just need a 4 x 9 grid right. Wrong because the grid is so big the a widget at 4x2 ends up being a 4x4 to view it all. I need a launcher that allows the widgets to show correctly at the default widget size. So I want a 10 x 5 grid size to actually hold more then 3 widgets. Nova Launcher is the same way. Just with Nova you can adjust the margins anymore then the 3 sizes included. With next you can make your own. But still I cant fit the 5 widgets on my screen that I want. Weather, Gmail, Hangout, Photo, Pulse. I want all those in there default widget sizes. I dont understand why making the grid size bigger makes the widgets bigger. In windows or Mac OSX when I make the rez bigger it doesnt make anything else bigger.
