[Q] Can I restore to rooted backup after flashing rom?

I am using clockwork mod touch edition, and I have a full system backup using it. If I decide to flash cm9 to the device and then decide I want to switch back, can I then restore to this backup using cwm? Or do I have to flash to a stock Rom first?
Brent
u can restore using the backup u created earlier
Ok so the restore also includes the Rom backup then?
yea, that is the main purpose of recovery
Cool, thanks. Just trying to understand more about what is happening when I do these things. Cheers!
don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik cache. u should be fine

For me CWM seems a bit more stable atm then TWRP, try Philz Touch CWM or Chenglu`s CWM (both in original android development). No, a data factory reset doesn`t install the apps you deleted, you need to reflash the stock rom for that with (Mobile) Odin.

Hyperion Question

When I install hyperion 8 pre gm and I restore my data via cwm, it always keep rebooting? Thanks for the answer
Is the data you restore made from the same ROM's backup?
Try clearing Dalvik Cache in advanced and then reboot.
My backup is from evo x rom . So it will cause problem?

The backup which you've made will restire Evo-X with all your user data. The backup is causing bootloop probably due to changed kernel or changed CWMR.

Yes, it will. What you can do is restore the whole ROM. Backup whatever you need with Titanium Backup and then restore it on your new ROM.

Yes . I change the kernel from hells kernel to savie kernel . That might be the problem . Thanks for your answer. I flash everything via odin and it goes fine

you cant restore data from another rom - it doesnt work like that
if you want to restore your apps and contacts and so on do the following
fully restore your nandroid backup not just the data so you do a complete restore - make sure you are on the same kernel and using the same cwm to restore the backup to which it was made on
then use titanium backup to backup all your apps
use super backup to backup all your contacts/sms
then you can flash any other rom you like
once you have done that simply restore your backups from titanium backup and super backup
both apps are available in the playstore

[Q] Backing up before flashing rom?

Hi, I want to flash WanamLite ROM to my new Galaxy S4, but last time I flashed WanamLite without backing up I ended up with a generic IMEI, so I need a way to back up my phone and IMEI and all the other important stuff, I can't afford Titanium Backup PRO right now, any other way to backup my phone so I can restore it in case anything goes wrong?
Once you flash a custom recovery like twrp or cwm you can backup your efs folder, you should keep that folder somewhere safe. After that you should make a nandroid backup and also keep this safe incase you want to go back to your stock rom
What I also like to have is my stock firmware on my pc so if anything goes wrong I can flash the stock fw
Edit: you can also backup efs manually but I am not informed about these techniques so I cannot tell you

I'm already rooted, can I back up the efs before I flash the rom?

There are various efs backups on play such as this although I haven't used them to restore them personally
If you're already rooted then you can also just flash a recovery with sgs4 flasher from the play store. Really nice for keeping updated. Backup efs With the custom recovery, or as the person above me stated, use an app for it

Nandroid backup?

Hi guys, so I did a nandroid backup of my stock rom yesterday to try a custom rom and if I'm not mistaken it should have backed up all of my files and data in my phone storage right? But when I went back to restoring the nandroid backup, it only restored my apps. All of my pictures which was in my phone storage was not restored D: Do you guys have any idea what may have caused this or any way I can retrieve my pictures back? I tried using an old nandroid backup of my stock rom which works before but it didn't now
When I did a backup my backup folder is not there in cwm backup folder but I can access it when I m in recovery mode

Bro.. I dont thinks that nandorid also take backup of ur pictures and other media, because i did it twice but it only retrieve my orginal apps and rom not my media.. If u are adding custom rom than u dnt have to factory reset the phone just wipe the caches thts all...U dnt need to delete the ur media..
You told tht u tried nandroid backup.. Is it retrieve the media before?
if yes than it might be media already in the phone.
I am also doing nandroid backup again I will let u know my media retrieve or not.
it preferable to use TWRP.
ok bro I done my nandroid backup but it only retrieve the Data of apps not media..
tell me when u done the backup before is that retrieve the media??
