I'm having a weird issue. On my Nexus 7, I use Google Voice and I placed it's icon in the dock. The weird thing is that after sometime, it magically gets smaller.
I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it. It's stays a normal size for a while, but after I put it down and pick it back up a couple hours later, it's magically shrunk again.
I've also noticed that when I restart the tablet, the icon stays the correct size for a couple seconds, and then gets small again.
I've attached pictures of the issue
Is anyone else having this problem, and how should I fix it?

Hi!
I just had a very weird bug. Suddenly when I pressed the home button the stock clock app (which I think is useless by the way) opened. When I pressed again the phone didn't switch to my home screen but stayed in the clock app.
When I tried to put the phone in standby and wake it up again my lock screen didn't show up, it was the stupid clock again.
I rebooted my phone and now everything is like it should be...
I'm running 2.3.4 (not rooted) with Launcher Pro.
Anyone else familiar with this problem?
I believe that you can set home button behavior in Launcher Pro. Not sure about the lock screen though.
I've had the same issue, always resolves itself though, especially after a reboot. Odd bug but doesn't occur enough to bother me.
But I agree the clock app seems largely useless, I have no wish to leave my phone screen on all night, and I can access alarm clock, gallery etc fine without.
I had this issue in January when I first got the phone, I guess on 2.3.1 or so. Anyways, the buttons did random things, and launching App A would result in App C launching instead, if you get what I mean. For example, I'd try to open Dolphin browser and Youtube would come up instead. I'm not sure why this occurred, and a simple restart fixed it. I wouldn't worry too much unless it keeps happening.
I only had it happen to me the one time.
I'm also experiencing this on my Nexus S, First the Car/Dock Mode appeared out of nowhere. It literally just launched itself while I was working at my desk! Now the home button pen up the clock App. Windows can't even detect the Nexus S now. No "you phone is plugged, mount it?" dialog box.
help!

Okay so I think I may have found a solution. I set my Nexus S beside my iPad 2 last night before going bed. I think it may have been the caused of magnets. yup. magnets. So I tried contacting both together. The iPad 2 reacted and lit up its screen and voila the Nexus S home button now works as a HOME and not a CLOCK button! I know its a little weird, may just be a coincidence for all I know! But mine works fine now.
Try it and let us know if this works for you!
Let me resurrect a dead thread here with a new solution. I began building my roms from source on the NS4G and immediately this bug appeared in them. Funny thing is only on my phone none of the testers had this issue. I decided to overwrite desk clock with desk clock pro on the market for free, and it knocked out the bug, and I still have my alarms for work.
The phone has been working very well, no problems of any kind. It is rooted and I'm using Go Launcher along with Widget Locker for the lock screen.
I just updated the Widget launcher application and everything was working just fine.
However, the last time I woke the phone, the display was bonkers. The lower 1/3 of the screen was grey, over writing the icons for the functions located there on the home screen. When I scroll through the home screens, the lower 1/3 continues to be greyed out. However on close inspection, the underlying icons can bee seen and are activated with a touch as normal.
The overwriting seems to be somewhat of a repeat of the top 1/3 of the screen. With the moto lock screen there is a digital clock displayed in the upper part of the screen and that is showing up in the lower third also.
This greying out is more like a Ghosting effect. The screen also has a general background flicker in the upper section that is not greyed out or ghosted over. I did nothing like dropping the phone or dunking it. This does have what I would somewhat characterize as connection issue. BWDIK.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could have caused this to pop up as a problem? The new version of Widget Locker seemed to be doing just fine and I had configured it to take more icons in the ICS default theme. Everything was going great until it suddenly was not.
Suggestions or accounts of similar problems would be appreciated. I sure hope there is a cure. The phone has been great and darned capable. I'd hate to have to change it out.
Reboot your phone.
If that doesnt work, make a backup in Clockwork and wipe data.
If that doesn't work, it's hardware related.

Thanks for the help.
Could you be a little more specific as to how to make the backup and then restore?
I've restarted the phone several times. That won't clear it up.
Download droid2bootsrtap>install>flash recovery>reboot recovery
Scroll to backup/restore (use vol keys select w/ camera key)
Select backup, let it do it's thing
Select wipe data
Reboot
Thanks for the additional help.
That did not seem to get the job done for me. I still have the problem with the top third of the screen being displayed again as an overwrite of the bottom third.
One odd thing did occur while I was working on this. I had the phone connected to the charger. It was in "sleep" mode with a dark screen. I picked up the phone, pushed the wake up button top. and at the same time I disconnected from the charger. When the screen first displayed it was displaying correctly and clearly with no overwrite. I don't believe I have a failed display in the sense of dead sections or pixels. It seems that there is some cross connection in how it is being addressed so that the upper one third is being written twice, one of those being an overwrite of the lower one third. The icons that should be showing in the lower third dispaly are visible through the "fog" created by the overwrite.
I have contacted the local smartphone Mr. Fixit and ordered the new screen. The problem may be deeper than that though. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I like the way the phone operates and am getting to understand it after about a year of working with it. It is rooted with the handy WiFi tether operating, along with a few simple customizations. It would be great to get it sorted out as I don't want to go the upgrade route at this time.
Have you tried reSBFing? I had a similar problem, except the lower 3/4 of screen went black. Got an insurance replacement, but when i was wiping my old phone, i SBFd, and the screen worked again. Granted, i still had to send the phone in, so no idea how long it would've lasted.

Nothing to do with SBF'ing. The phone is rooted, and it worked the first time, several months prior to the problem.
I finally got the screen replaced and that part is working well. Nice and bright with no ghosting of another section. However, I now have developed a problem with the dialer turning off the screen when the call starts dialing. No capability of using number pad or even hitting the End Call button. Returns to the default lockscreen when call ends from a disconnect on the other end. still a great mystery.
Question: how's your camera working?

Hi,
So I literally picked my N7 up an hour ago, came home, got to the home screen. Played around with it and plugged it into my laptop. Suddenly, it looked like the screen turned off. After a bit of poking around, it turns out the screen isn't off, the brightness is just ridiculously low.
Using my Nexus One as a flashlight, I'm able to just about make out the contents of the screen. I've turned auto-brightness off and WiFi, but no cigar, the screen is still barely visible.
Is this defective hardware, or has a software update fixed this for anyone? I was prompted to install an update, but in my excitement, I dismissed it.
Feeling like this right now ->
silly question but have you tried turning the brightness up? not had any problems with the brightness of my screen. even at 10% the thing is quite readable.
I tried that, it didn't make a difference. I think it's a hardware problem since I did a factory reboot (took me 10 mins just to tap the right buttons) and still has the same problem. Ordered a replacement
Did you try checking, saving, and unchecking auto? Mine is set to the "darkest" but it's still very bright
I didn't tbh, it was too difficult to find the checkbox for it. Without my N1 camera flash, it looked like the screen was off, and even with flash, I was basically fumbling around and hoping I would hit the right option.
I tried a factory reboot and that didn't fix it. The first time I booted, it was fine, so I reckon hardware issue. I've ordered a replacement, hopefully this'll last longer than 5 minutes
Not sure if this is a problem with the phone or some settings i'm missing. I bought the phone 2 weeks ago so i think there is still time to get a replacement but i was wondering if anyone has seen this problem before.
The stock weather widget that is on the home screen by default does not refresh the weather sometimes. If you manually click on the refresh sign from the home screen, it shows it trying to refresh but nothing changes. Same happens if you open the app and refresh from there.
I have data turned on, sync, gps, etc. Nothing i can see that would be stopping it.
The problem is fixed if i reboot the phone. If the phone has been up for about 6-7 hours it still does the refresh just fine. If its been up for 30+ hours the problem above starts happening.
I have another S4 as well, have not been able to catch if the same thing happens with it, but a side by side comparison of "status" and all the apps running is identical and where my phone fails to update the weather (up time over 30 hours) this other one works just fine (up time 5 hours).
The only difference between the 2 is that my phone is rooted.
Happened with my s2. Not my s4
I think i was able to narrow it down and i'm starting to think there is nothing wrong here.
Clearing cache/data on the app also brings it back so no need to re-start. But the failed refresh seems to happen when i'm not able to get a GPS signal. (would be nice if it actually dont you this with an error pop up or something) Still need to try it a few more times but im 95% certain its timing out if it cant lock on GPS. It only seems to happen inside.
The other phone was working even without GPS turned on, which i thought was odd.I later found that it was not displaying current city, but instead was just configured to display the city i happened to be in.
My Note 4 (SM-N910V) fell out of my backpack and onto some leaves padding a rock, about 3 feet up. The phone went black. I tried to turn it on and it vibrated but stayed black and had that light blue led going. I saw that before when changing the screen out once but didn't get both connectors connected, so I thought it was the screen. When I got home, I slowly removed the old screen and found one of the connectors was knocked off somehow (I guess I didn't push it on all the way?). So I pushed it back in and pressed the power button and viola! I have my screen back. All good, right?
So I sent a text and thought nothing of it until I went to send another one and then I noticed the text I sent wasn't showing up on the screen. It only showed a text from much earlier. So I resent the same text and the little chat bubble appears for literally a fraction of a second and then is whisped away like it never existed. I sent a "test" text to myself and saw the same thing happen. Then a minute or so later, my test text arrives. When I press on the notification for it, the text messaging window opens up like it's supposed to but there's no text!
To make the situation even more weirder, when I try to go online using either data or wifi, I get a "server not found" error. This happened on Firefox and Chrome.
I tested the phone with a different screen and the issues were still there.
I changed text messaging apps from the stock app to Textra and the same thing happened with the texts. And like before, they came through. When it did, I shut off the phone and restarted it to see if the network would still see the text as being unread, etc. and right after bootup, I get the notification of my test text. When I open the stock text app to see it, I see nothing but the same texts described earlier.
This is weird. Any suggestions?
Is the sim card good? Is it seated properly?
Examine closely for more damage especially the mobo.
Clear system cache if that fails, try a factory reset.
No joy? Try reflashing the firmware.
You may have damaged the mobo...
I appreciate the suggestions and was just about to start what you recommended this morning blackhawk when I noticed the date and time were way off. It was reading 8:04pm, June 7, 2021. I turned on the automatic date/time setting and everything went back to normal. I was able to access the internet, got gmail notifications, and was able to send texts. Somehow, the drop knocked the date and time off. I'll play around with it today and make sure everything works as it should.
