How to root ICS STOCK? - Acer Iconia A500

I have been searching for a root method, and all that I can find is that there is none for the stock OTA ICS?
I can find a bunch for all the updates of HC.
Anyhow, I have:
Android Version - 4.0.3
Kernel Version - 2.6.39.4+
Build Number - ACER_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
If anyone can direct me to a link in the forum that would be much appreciated. All I want is Root. I have a couple of apps that use that I can no longer use.
ex... controller apps for emulators, a USB app so that I am able to hook up my digital camera, and my ext harddrive.
Thank You to anyone that can help me out.

Many ways for getting rooted:

i really appreciate your help guys .
You really should have searched the forum... Yes, it is possible, of course (though it might be tricky to undo due to changes in Acer's bootloader). Better still: install an up-to-date rooted stock ROM and save yourself the hassle, as surprisingly many apps need root to work anyway (like Juniper VPN, which is used in a lot of corporate and university networks & Titanium Backup, which might just save your bacon if you screw up)...
You'll figure out the rest if you do due diligence searching this forum & the web (and you'd probably have found the information above if you already had done so before).

Adobe Air 3.1 on KF

I want to install the latest version of adobe air (3.1) Since I need it for an app here in Belgium. But whenever I want to install it I get an error message, even after manually removing it with titanium backup. Somebody ready to offer assistance?
PS: my KF is fully rooted, of course!
Nobody ever tried to install Adobe Air 3.1 on the KF yet?
Yes, actually, I've been trying today, because I want to get SharePlus on my KF. It will not install. Check out this link:
forums.adobe.com/message/4305481
(Been using this site for years, but I haven't posted much, so I can't actually post the link properly.)
I'm currently researching and debating installing an ICS ROM. I am trying to find out if the OS version is the problem, or if it won't work on this hardware.

[Q] Build and Image version for ICS Stock [RESOLVED]

I was having some issues with my browser and email client and suspected it was due to not running a stock rom. Initially when ICS came out I was a little impatient, didn't wait for the OTA update and installed one of the "released" images.
Yesterday i spent most of the day trying different image. Initially I hoped to install an older version, like honey comb and the to OTA back to a stock ICS rom.
It seems that once your bootloader has been converted to ICS there is now way of going back to Honeycomb. I tried some things suggested on xda developer forum, but none produced the results.
I then installed what I believe is the current stock rom for an A500 giving me the following:
Android version: 4.0.3
Kernel version: 2.6.39.4+
Image version: Acer_AV041_A500_RV03RC01_WW_GEN1
Build number: Acer_AV041_A500_1.0.31.00_WW_GEN1
What I would like to confirm is that this is correct and that this version is the latest available from Acer.
I am not really interested in any of the custom images and don't need it rooted. So a stock standard Acer ROM should do me just fine.

Look in the dev section , the latest is 1.054.00_ww_gen1. It is in the sticky thread.
This thread describes in detail what I did http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961301 but now my tablet is bricked. I am still hoping for some way of recovering it though.

This is what happens when you have multiple threads going. Nobody knows what the heck is going on.
Perhaps you think it increases your odds of getting your issue fixed, but now, it only compounds things.
If one of the issues is solved, then you need to edit your title thread to state so. This can be done by selecting Edit, Go Advanced.
MD
The reason I started two threads was to answer different question. In this thread I was looking for the latest official released version of ICS available. The other thread describes my journey of trying different ROMs. I was hoping to downgrade to 3.1/3.2 and then to OTA to ICS. Well that is covered in the other thread.
Thanks for all your help. I got my answer on the latest version.

RK3066 (MK802 III) Flashtool and Android 4.4.2

Recently I found this interesting Tool ... and I successfully flashed "Allminipc_ug802_RT8188_4.4_720p.img" (Kitkat version) on my MK802 III using Debian Linux 7.5!
Regards, mistersixt.
In case someone is interested: I successfully installed the rk3066 drivers for WinXP using Moborobo, rooted the device with the kingo root tool, and I was able to installed the xposed framework 2.6, too, including XPrivacy, root cloak etc.
So I have a fully 4.4.2 running MK802 III with root access and Xposed framework!
Regards, mistersixt.

Very interesting..Any chance you could share the firmware image file and also let us know how has it been so far...is it fast enough and does the Wifi and Camera (UVC drivers compatible) work w/ this ?
Also could you confirm if this is for MK802III and not MK802IIIS...
Cheers

It is the MK802III, and the stick is running fast and stable. Wifi is as bad as with 4.1 ... but I think this is a general (or hardware related) issue, I am using it with a USB to LAN adapter anyway.
Concerning the camera I have no idea.

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I've just installed this firmware on my MK802III and it seems no audio video app is working properly. Youtube does not show any video or sound. Neither can I play youtube in the browser.
No streaming media player works either. Only the local media files are playing properly.
The playstore seems to take ages to install apps because of speed, however when I check the internet speed using speed testing app it gives a good enough speed of 7Mbps.
Also i've noticed that there the wifi network connections are getting dropped abruptly. The wifi connection itself seems to be OK but connection from apps such as Airdroid drop out and upload from my local machine via Airdroid takes ages w/ speeds in Kbps.
Can this be fixed please.
Thanks,
OP

MK802IIIs up and running
Works brilliantly on my MK802IIIs. Wifi is strong and Bluetooth works out of the box. Already rooted and CWM recovery installed. Now its time for some Xposed magic! Anyone has an idea which XBMC version will run best on this?
I'm using the ROM from this thread http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...73-full-1080p-modded-kit-kat-4-4-2-rk3066-rom
Super fast and stable, its like a new machine coming from the old JB ROM I had on there. I can actually use it now.
This ROM is for an Imito device but the MK802IIIS is identical hardware.
Few OC kernels in that thread to to play with.

Hi,
The rom seems nice but I just can't get it to run correctly on my MK802IIS. I just flashed the rom on this thread (V 1.1 ) without flashing a custom kernel. Just flashed the entire rom. And after the first boot, I see the apps update (the optimization screen) and then I'm stuck on the screen where there is an Android icon on the top with a blue bar underneath. This screen just keeps blinking and seems to be impossible to pass. I can access the settings, but I found impossible to activate wifi or lan.
Ozzy, you seem to have a MK802IIIS, did I miss something during the flashing? Do I need to flah a custom kernel after flashing the rom?

I just flashed the basic ROM with the unmodified kernel. I did try one of the OC kernels but it wasn't stable on my device.
The screen you mention doesn't sound familiar to me.
Did you do a full wipe?

Hi, thanks for your answer mate
Yeah I did a full wipe, that's why I don't understand what's happening to me. I see someone on the thread has the exact same problem, but doesn't precise on which device, so I preferred to ask you first, as we have the same device.
I'll just try the v.1.0, mabe that 1.1 version doesn't run on my key. Did you flash the 1.1 or the 1.0 ?
Hello
I know I am a bit off topic but this TV stick is based on the same CPU....Can somebody help me ?
I ordered this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-Core...g-/111655649656?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123 and seller's understanding of the English language is very close to none
Can somebody tell me which webcam models does it support ?
I have just installed Allminipc_ug802_RT8188_4.4_720p on an MK802III. I have used it for an hour and installed all my apps etc.
Both sound and Wifi (Realtek) seems to work.
I've been using mine daily since I posted last time. It works fine except for some hick ups.
Sometimes during bootup it hangs with just 3 penguins on the screen.
And I'm running out of internal disk space all the time. I never did that on the official 4.2 even though I had many more applications installed then. Any ideas how to fix that?
Help please...

[Q] Help on rooting and custom roms

Hello. I just got hold of an acer iconia a501 which is running 4.0.3 If it's cool I just have a couple of questions: 1. Should I just leave it as is or are there many benefits to modifying and upgrading the os? 2. If so, I can't quite figure out which process to do in the right order ie rooting, flashing a rom etc. If I could just get the information as to what steps I need to take, I'll be able to find the how to on this forum. I appreciate your help.
Ryan.

Hello, I used to be stock ICS. got ok battery life and performance. I flashed TegraOwners Lollipop rom and it was so much better. Yes its in its early stages but screen on time went from barely 3 hours to 5 1/2-6. With no under clocking. Pretty amazing.

noob needs opinion 3.2.1, on upgrading acer a500
(Sorry for invading your thread, but I did not know where to start asking.)
Hi I feel like I am out of luck. If that is the case, please just treat the backstory as a bit of entertainment.
To upgrade the Acer A500 Iconia Tablet from Honeycomb 3.2.1(oem) to something more current, perhaps IceCreamSandwich 4.0, can I download a file to a microSD card, plug the card into
the tablet, and get the upgrade? I read somewhere about a file called update.zip. Is the process just this simple/easy?
BackStory:
This tablet is hard to love as it doesn't come with any sample media, or even any file-manager. Once in a while it crashes to the home screen. But another feature I really want is to take screenshots. That is why I want to root the A500.(Problem0 Recently, the lockscreen failed. (My password is made of letters, whereas the A500 would no longer display the virtual keyboard, only the virtual numeric keypad!). therefore I did a cleanWipe reset of the tablet. 'Android version 3.2.1; Build number Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2'. Problem0 fixed.) Problem1: I am a newbie w poor computer skills. Problem2: I am a newbie w poor computer skills.
I register the tablet w Acer, and then install ICS A500 Update from Google Play Store. (ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement, Acer Inc. - March 18, 2012: Application_Acer_2.2. 120307.3_A32H_A.apk)
Next I go to settings... and click on Acer System Update "check now" button. But the only message popup is 'Network coverage is currently poor. Please move to a location with better coverage to continue.' Funny as the wifi indicator indicates the signal as very strong. I try signing into Acer.com support, but it says 'your email (id) is not recognized'.
Questions:
1. Should I upgrade to something newer than the built-in Android 3.2.1? and if so which version?
2. Should I root? (How do I root? Is a PC required to do this?)
(3. Do I first need to get Acer software/drivers for PC?)
(4. What is a good app to use to backup Acer A500 to PC?)
Thank you for your attention; a frustrated A500 user,
J.
