Lenovo Thinkpad stuck and about to give up - Thinkpad Tablet General

Hi guys
My dad's tablet is messed up after an update from Lenovo. Tablet wasn't rooted nor anything. It is stuck on the "Lenovo" boot screen. I tried wiping the cash, factory reset, no luck.
Then I tried to download the OTA files from Lenovo site and update from the SD cards with no luck either.( downloaded all the files from A400 to A310_02_0024_0065. Each time I try to use an update, I get a message with the version of the previous update...
Each time I try to use an update (for example A310_02/0024_0065), I get the following message:
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "Lenovo/ThinkPadTablet/Indigo:3.1/ThinkPadTablet_A310_02/0024_0060_US:user/release-keys" || "Lenovo/ThinkPadTablet/Indigo:3.1/ThinkPadTablet_A310_02/0024_0065_US:user/release-keys"

And so on and so forth...
The lenovo site doesn't have any version earlier than the A310_02_024_065...
Anyone has an idea about what 's going on?
The tablet is 1838-CTO.

Anyone?

Hmm the only thing I can think of is are you using the correct versions of the updates? There are different ones for us, row, we, and so forth. Secondly do you recall what update were you on when you tried to update? Because these are incremental updates you can't revert back to previous updates or skip any if you were on 65 then you have to flash 75 if you were on 75 you have to flash 86 if on 86 you have to flash 89 and so forth. I had hard time updating because I was trying to skip straight to ICS from 75 which isn't possible. You said you never rooted so that means you don't have custom recovery which should make you good to go. Make sure you are flashing the updates in the right order should work then.

The Tablet is a US one. I also suspected the order of the updates but as I said, the oldest update available on Lenovo site is the A310_02_0024_0060_US yet when I try to use it, it complains about a previous version.
Do you know where I can get updates previous to A310_02_0024_0060_US?

Hello, I just fixed my tablet when having the same error as you.
Flash this format.zip:
http://ubuntuone.com/4zKT1jqeqhR8qdGh2y4TaM
What it does is self explanatory.
Reboot when done and then see if it works. If it does not. Flash one of these roms mad for the tablet found here (after using the format.zip):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846044

You kind of resurrected this thread lol. The issue they would have with that is they weren't rooted, so they wouldn't have CWM.

All good

I'm one of the bunch of guy that have this tablet bricked, and with the bootloader locked by Lenovo.
The only thing we can do for the moment is:
Keep the pressure on the lenovo forum to unlock the bootloader.
Open formally support tickets about bricked Thinkpad Tablets to Lenovo
I'm also documenting all the stuff I'm finding on the XDA Wiki for this tablet.

Thank you soooooooooooooo much

Hi.
It seems that I have a brick like this on the Thinkpad Tablet 1. It just show the Lenovo static logo.
The only good things is that I have CWM V6.0.1.2 installed and seems to works fine.
Any tip on which file can I flash to try to recover this tablet?

Hi
Can it be possible to repost the format file or include a working link.
Thanks !

[Q] Bricked or salvageable?

I picked up an Iconia that was 'open box' since it was a return. It boots fine, but once Android fires up, it instantly gives me the message 'Powering Down' (continually, it doesn't actually shut off), and won't allow me to do anything. I can get to some menus, but as soon as I try opening any submenus it force-closes and gives me a black screen saying 'Android System'.
I've tried various things to save this little guy:
-various update.zip files located around this forum. All failed part-way or before beginning, resulting in !
-factory reset (wipe memory, cache, etc). It does this succesfully, but when I boot into Android all I get is the 'Android System' screen, and can't do anything.
- ADB. Not sure how to connect w/o being able to use USB debugging.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but any help would be greatly appreciated (and sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post this)!
EDIT
More info: When the update.zip fails, I get the message:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "ventana" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "ventan

Working now, see post 3
first of all give us a location (country) where you are living.
second what was the last rom you have flashed version?
do you have cwm installed?
do you have an external sd-card?
once i have this, may be i can help you?
The problem has been fixed now. I was able to use the stock update.zip found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176632
I still wonder what was wrong with all the others though. My location is US. I tried the Chinese unbrick file, several us ota and full recovery files before the one that works, with labels from gen1 to gen5. I even tried switching to a new sdcard.
At least I know I have one that works now.
Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it going.
The most current US version is 4.010.11. There should be one floating about here somewhere. If I were you, I would install CWM and make a full backup of your tablet as it is now.

Update issues with latest OTA update from ASUS - Rooted with CWM

I Have a tf101 with first the ics upgrade. I recently got notice of the ota update. I ran OTA Rootkeeper and then ran the update. It bombed after reboot with the downed robot. After that would only boot into cwm, unless i cold boot. Even then the update is not applied. How do ii fix this without starting from scratch with a new or factory rom? If i have to restore factory, where/how do i do it Assn how do i then get my phone back to its current state?
Thanks all

Thanks for the link, but it's not really helping me.
Firstly, it says nothing about the OTA update and how to address installing it on a rooted system.
Second, that thread has 23 pages and there seem to be a LOT of questions about the integrity of the process they have there.
I would figure that MANY people are in my situation and that there would be a more straightforward answer.
Why are you trying to get update with CWM.?
At this point, this thing is so messed up I want to toss it out the window! I have tried so many fixes! Nothing is working like it should. What is the best way to restore it back to factory...even if it means going pre-ICS and going through the upgrades? I just want the hours of time i'm spending on this to end.
Wait. You had root + CWM with stock 9.2.1.11 and you installed OTA update?
What version of CWM do you have?
Try this thread, I did it and it worked no bother, had to go back to Roach2010 CWM 3.2.0.1 first though --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545965

Another way to update without USB cable
just updated mine...what i did was this:
1. I downloaded the patch to my internal storage and renamed it update.zip
2. adb reboot bootloader
3. fastboot flash recovery rogue-recovery.img (file name found on xda forums )
4. fastboot reboot
5. At the M logo i started pressing the down vol key to select recovery mode then pressed power. After this press power than up will get you into recovery mode. IMPORTANT...DO NOT LET IT BOOT INTO ANDROID OR ELSE CUSTOM RECOVERY WILL BE OVERWROTE AND YOU WILL HAVE TO START OVER AT STEP 2!!
6. When rogue recovery was shown i installed the update.zip from my internal storage.
I am now using the new ICS 4.0.4 update No need for that USB cable idea.

You have to be at least patched to HLK75H before applying this update
This will not work for the 3g only the 4g.
Can anyone post an MD5 checksum on the update zip file?

You will need a different file that we don't have a link for yet. You have a 3G CDMA Xoom and the file you downloaded was for the 4G Xoom. If you are willing to be patient and wait, you could assist by providing the link for the 3G OTA file when you get the system update notification on your tablet. If you are interested in helping out, PM me and I'll give you instructions on how to do it so you can be ready when you get the update notification.

That method will break push notifications in apps like Twitter, Android Lost, Foursquare, IMDB, etc. If you do that method an an app stops notifying you of things, the only way to fix it is to clear that app's data and set it up again.

[WARINING] DO NOT install a recovery from 4.1 on a 4.2 tablet!

Guys, I think this post is needed and probably should be sticked on all TF300T forums. I saw a lot of people bricked their tablets for good on Q&A because they didn't read all the info or were just careless. So, if you are on 4.2.1 firmware version, or thinking about upgrading, read this info carefully!
If your tablet has 4.2.1 Android version from Asus, DO NOT FLASH A RECOVERY THAT WAS ACTUALLY MADE FOR 4.1 TABLETS! You will end up on a PERMANENT BRICK with no solution until now. You won't be able to use fastboot ever again. You won't be able to flash anything ever again. You will be stuck with a bricked tablet!
Older ROMs won't work with the new bootloader, such as CM10.1 and ParanoidAndroid ! READ THE ROM THREAD AND ENSURE IT SAYS IT WORKS ON A 4.2 BOOTLOADER! If you are unsure, then READ THE THREAD ANSWERS, ASK AND SEARCH! Five minutes of search can save you from ruin your tablet.
OLDER KERNELS WON'T WORK ON THE NEW BOOTLOADER!! Don't even try to flash TF700T ones!!
If you are looking for a Recovery for a 4.2.1 bootloader (and a complete guide for updating), read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982 Don't do it with any other tutorial: they are for 4.1 bootloaders!
STAY AWAY FROM CWM FOR NOW!
If you don't want to download TWRP from the post above and want to do it from the official TWRP website ensure that you use the correct version for your bootloader! Any other one will brick your tablet! Read the list below:
If you are on Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3): download openrecovery-twrp-2.#.#.#-tf300t(g)-ICS.blob
If you are on Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1): download openrecovery-twrp-2.#.#.#-tf300t(g)-JB.blob
If you are on Jelly Bean (Android 4.2.1): download openrecovery-twrp-2.#.#.#-tf300t(g)-4.2.blob
Here you have a list of ROMs that are compatible with the new bootloader and are safe to flash once you are on 4.2.1 firmware:
CleanROM Inheritance Xenogenesis from sbdags
Energy™ from NRGZ28
GRIMLOCK from hardslog
CyanogenMod 10.1 Unofficial from pcoussa
ROM-THEME- STOCK KERNEL Stock Asus Firmware 10.6.1.15.3 from surdu_petru
I hope I was clear enough

Just tried downloading the oldest update image from ASUS' official website and flashing it manually via fastboot, I managed to downgrade to 4.1.1 and flash recovery-jb.img without any mounting/bootloop issue whatsoever.
You just need to unpack the official zip, get the blob and flash it inside the "staging" partition. The tablet will repartition the whole NAND and reinstall 4.1.1. (obviously after flashing you need to wipe /data to prevent bootloops -- /emmc will be formatted while flashing)

Hi all
Just a fact : I managed to install the CWMrecovery over the Official Asus update 4.2.1. I'm not sure, but I think the issue is with TWRP. My 64 Go ext.SD became unstable (had to reformat it via Gparted) and the whole system too...
Now I'm back on a "classical" recovery, no root, no unlock, official 4.2.1 Asus and everything is smooth so far...i'll let you know.
Narrow escape, I must say...
Joel, you're the man : you're right to prevent everyone from a catastrophy. Thanks.

No doubt. The TF300 makes a VERY expensive paperweight.
I'm actually surprised that I haven't seen anyone in here asking for help using Team Viewer. lol :cyclops:
Unbelievable!!!
I just went to stock 4.2 and was in the process of fastbooting the new TWRP recovery (for 4.2) onto my tablet. I flashed recovery and then entered the reboot command. Just then, I noticed I was in the wrong folder and I flashed the wrong twrp.blob file - the old one!! I panicked and unplugged immediately (about 10 seconds after the reboot command was entered). I didn't know what to do then, so I chose the wipe data option on the fastboot protocol screen.
Now I'm stuck on the ASUS screen - the one that says "The Device is Unlocked" in the top left. If I hold power and volume down it reboots right back to this screen - not able to get to the fastboot protocol screen. I'm pretty sure I'm bricked. Can someone confirm if this is the case? Is there anyway out of this mess?
So mad at myself right now...

Hey could you please try something? There is a reset spot on our tablet, bellow the SD card thing. Use a paper clip or something to click on it and tell me if that helped
Good idea on the reset button, but it did not help in this case. After pressing the button with a paperclip the screen would go black for ~3 seconds and then go right back to the ASUS screen. I tried again to get into fastboot mode, but no dice. This thing is toast! I guess I'll have to RMA this brick.
Folks, please don't be careless like me and make sure you flash the correct recovery files.

I tried again to get into fastboot mode, but no dice. This thing is toast! I guess I'll have to RMA this brick.
Folks, please don't be careless like me and make sure you flash the correct recovery files.

Well, now we know that the reset button is useless... Bad luck for you man...
Well...I actually tried to flash old ROMs a good number o times but it didn't bricked my tab! Thanks for warning though

Roms aren't the issue. It's the old recovery with the latest bootloader that causes the brick.
I didnt get bricked doing this , Why ?

If you are looking for a Recovery for a 4.2.1 bootloader (and a complete guide for updating), read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
STAY AWAY FROM CWM FOR NOW!
Here you have a list of ROMs that are compatible with the new bootloader and are safe to flash once you are on 4.2.1 firmware:
CleanROM Inheritance 4.x from sbdags
Energy™ from NRGZ28
I hope I was clear enough

Where does it say you can install PA above? You must be on the 4.1.1 bootloader for PA. There are only 2 roms currently compatible with the 4.2.1 bootloader as it says above.......

[OTA Update] [Oreo] Galaxy S7 Active Update to Android Oreo Guide

This Guide is one i wrote in a reply on another forum, I thought more people would see it if i posted it here as well. As usual, if you brick your phone while following this guide, it is your problem, and i take no repsonsibility for any bricked S7 Actives due to this guide. Its not likely, but in the event that it occurs, understand that it's your problem.
There is no s7 active oreo rom in ODIN flashable format available yet, but you can update by flashing nougat, and flashing two ota flashable zip files in stock recovery. If you go to this website, and click the blue download button, you can extract the downloaded file with 7zip, or winrar, and flash the md5 files in ODIN, and you will then be on stock android nougat. You can then copy this zip file to your phone's external micro sd card, without extracting it, and use stock recovery mode (turn off, then volume up + home + power) to "apply update from sd card", or if you don't have a micro sd card, click "apply update from adb" and look up "how to use adb sideload" on google. Once it's done updating, do the same thing with this zip file, using stock recovery and "apply update from sd card" or using "apply update from ADB", and you will be on android 8.0 oreo. you can always use the first file you downloaded to go back to stock nougat if you don't like oreo, but it's working great for me! Enjoy android Oreo on your S7 Active, hopefully we will see a root soon, as the nougat root just bricks my phone while it is on oreo. I do not recommend using a newer oreo OTA zip instead of the one i posted, as some of the other ones flash a newer bootloader, thus preventing a downgrade back to nougat in the event something catastrophic happens.

Yay! Had trouble with the download stopping and varying speed download (mostly slow) but now that I've got it all went as normal.
Did seem to take a little longer than normal on the factory recovery updates but no problems to report there.
Up and running now but I've yet to play with it more than opening a few apps and testing features.
Now we need an unlocked bootloader!!! I miss having custom ROMs, debloat, and a real firewall...
Maybe someday. Maybe.
Hello
I recently installed the version G891AUCU2BQB2
Do I need to install all the files that appear in the link you gave?
Sorry about my English and sorry for the questions of a novice
Thank you

I don't know what Jacob says about your doubt, but probably you can downgrade the build to the BQD4 and then install the updates until the BRB5. I did something similar, I downgrade the build BQF2 to BQD4 and then I installed the updates (the last was the build BRB5) to be able to install android oreo (build CRC7).

Hi Jacob, I have a doubt, do you have any problem with the HRM sensor? I can't use it. I could use it with nougat but with oreo it doesn't work (even if I test it in the *#0*# the sensor doesn't work). Thank you!!
Bro, I’m sorry, I can’t help, I accidentally bricked my s7 active last month, and it was hard bricked, I accidentally flashed the wrong boot loader, so I had to return it and I know how people feel about this, but there was a great deal on an iPhone 6s :/
???????????????

Haha. I'm thinking about getting a 6S as well. How's the standby battery life compared to the S7 Active?
Yeah, I can make it last a day, I got mine used, so my battery has 85% of its original health, I would think one with a newer battery in it would last longer, especially since this one lasts the whole day.... if you find one cheap, I recommend, but only the 6s/6s plus, not the 6/6 plus
Thanks, works great
Thanks so much, I was able to update my phone that has been off of any network for over a year. I update my S7 Active from BQH1 all the way through to CRD4, took a while having to manually update each OTA file. 6 updates later and I am running Android 8, so far no issues, no sim atm so can not tell if all functions are good, but seems to be so. Been 24 hours since and have not had a single issue. Even got it network unlocked and am running a T-Mobile sim, works like a charm.

When I try to install the BRA7 to BRB5 update, my phone gives this error.
Could someone that knows more than me interpret this for me and tell me what I need to do?

Trying to flash SM-G891A_G891AUCS2BRA7_USA_ATT_v7.0, but I keep getting a "md5 error! Binary is invalid" when trying to load the AP file in Odin3 v3.13. Is this legit?
what build are you on currently?

I am currently having this issue trying to update from S3BRD1 to U3CRE7. I was running CRD4 but downgraded so I could go up to CRE build, but no luck. Were you able to figure out what is causing this issue?

I gave up on trying to apply the CRE7 update and went ahead and settled with the CRE5 and it loaded just fine. Might have been a corrupt file, downloaded it 3 times. :silly:

Just a thought, they recently uploaded a stock U3BRD1, which brings the bootloader to the newest (no root possible), then just OTA update from there.
Successfully flashed CRC7 on my S7 Active (I'm in Canada and can't get OTA updates).
However my Samsung Pay can no longer register my Canadian credit cards (it was working fine on Nougat build BRB5). Anyone in a similar situation?
Peace
Where can I find the file SS-G891AUCU2BQF2-to-S2BQG1-UP.zip
Thanks Yossi
