Yes my drives are installed properly and KfU shows status as online.
did you allow installation from unkown sources? did you disconnect the usb transfer application? were you connected to the internet? and your drivers say android adb composite interface? and there are no question marks or exclamation points next to your driver? and are you using only a 2.0 usb port? have you downloaded a fresh copy to make sure the copy of kfu you have isnt in some form corrupted?

I m connected to internet on PC not on kindle
My driver says android adb composite interface and no exclamation mark there
i m using 2.0 usb port.
I have downloaded KFU from Xda 0.9.6 forum so it should be an updated one
AND hwta do you mean by disconnect the usb transfer application???
So what can be wrong?
I had same problem on a windows 7 machine. I then used my wife's win xp machine and it worked first try

In my experience the Windows drivers are flaky. I've had similar problems to what you are describing and fixed them by removing and reinstalling the drivers. And rebooting Windows. It's very frustrating when everything looks like it should be working only to find out a reinstall or reboot immediately fixes it.
I can't know if that will work in your case but might be worth a try.

Same for me.
The same thing happens for me when I try to use the KFU v0.9.6. I dont believe it to be a driver issue either.
The install_drivers.bat would not install the drivers due to drivers not signed. So I had to install them manually. I also had to edit the adb_usb.ini file by adding the line:
0x1949
in my android sdk but ADB now reports connected.
The FFF did install but TWRP and root will not install. I have not tried clockwork mod.
I noticed that while trying to install root, the KFU reported that it was attemping to download TWRP. Is this normal behavior?
The TWRP will not download as the link it broken. It does download something and renames it to twrp.img but what it gets is way too small.
The link: TWRP=Click Here that is listed in the instructions under extras on This Page is broken and I suspect that the KFU is attemping to download from that location and instead getting the file doesn't exist page instead and renaming it.
When I manually track down twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img and rename it to twrp.img then place it in the resources folder, the KFU finds it and attempts to install it but fails with md5 error.

Looks like im having the same problem. i'm not able to download superuser or TWRP via KFU. FFF, however, installed just fine... so now, everytime i reboot i get the new blue "kindle fire" logo with boot options. I gave up after a couple days of looking for a solution, and decided to try factory reset, to see if that would clear it off... nope. so i guess my question is does anybody know how to remove FFF after a failed but not detrimental root attempt.... orrrr, does anybody know of a real solution to the download issues i had. its weird, i was able to connect fine ( it detected my kindle, it said i was online, and in normal boot mode 4000, no root ) and install FFF, but nothing else seemed to work in the hundred (give or take a few) times i attempted the root process via KFU. thanks. tell me there's something i'm missing here.

Also, it looks as if im getting the same errors you are. "Warning download couldn't be completed" Permissions denied, and mounting fails as well.
big mistake?
well i f'd up. i finally got twrp to install using a different file. however, it appears that i must've accidentally hit a wrong number when installing late last night, cause it appears i also have clockworkmod installed and it superceded twrp i guess.. can't load it. Anyone got any ideas on how to remove CWM with TWRP also installed. damn what a mess.

Hey everybody I had the same problem with twrp, but you just have to download the twrp image from the team win site and placed into the folder call recovery and rename it to twrp, after that the kfu will install it correctly.

Im sorry, I have tried everything to get my Kindle Fire up and running again. Ive read forum after forum trying to get it up and running. Ive tried the KFU the newest one and the older one. I tried to root my kindle fire and I some how got it stuck on TWRP 2.0. Here are the details of whats going on.
1. I am stuck on TWRP 2.0.
2. My PC does not recognize this device at all.
3. Ive tried deleting the drivers and re-installing the drivers.
4. None of the KFU devices see my KF on the pc.
5. I cant communicate with my KF device through ADB because the PC doesnt see anything.
6. I made the mistake of system restore through the OEM Amazon menu.
7. I dont have any custom roms on my KF device when I scroll through the TWRP menu.
8. I was a dummy and didnt backup the oem device version.
9. I cannot seem to push update.zip because there is no communication between my PC and the KF device.
10. The KF device is not even recognized for a quick second on my PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried changing the INI file with the recommended numbers on the forum. Thanks for your time and thank you community in advances. I just wanted to get some better features on the device and i ended up paying the price. Once (i hope) it is restored I will never mess with the device again.

can you explain a bit more? i pressed mount in TWRP, and i dont see my fire appearing in "My Computer"
Thanks
in twrp press mount - select sdcard - mount it
in device manager it should show up
if not you should update your drivers
you can use the ones from the newest kfu 0.9.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
extract it to c:\ and rename to something like c:\kfu\ - sometimes it don't like spaces in pathname
if nothing shows up remove your old drivers: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539/en-us
and power down and power up your computer (no restart)
then it should detect something - use the drivers you downloaded - select them manually !!!
once you see the sdcard from your pc you can copy one of the prerooted roms (would take the secure version) or cm7 to the sdcard and install with twrp

do you have kfu available ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
if not download, extract to c:\ and rename "kindle fire utility" to "kfu"
you can let it kfu do for you:
run kfu by "run.bat" and select option 1 - change bootmode to normal
or do it manually by opening an (elevated) command prompt in the tools folder of kfu and issue the commands

hey man that was it.. thanks alot
Thanks for all the help. My actual problem was the drivers needed to be reinstalled and the USB cable I was using was no good. Go Figure!
I already rooted my kindle fire, downloaded android market I loggedin using a google account. After that I was unable to change the google account. Browsed web and I saw the post of the video. I followed the instructions in the video.
steps followed: using root explorer, went to /system/framework and renamed framework-res.apk and and after I completed the renaming, the device crashed (or I clicked something; hence crashed?) and stuck in blank carrousel page.
So, I rebooted and all I get now if boot logo of 'Kindle fire'. It doesnt go any forward.
I connected to PC and I am able to see the device in ADB. But no root access in shell. So, any adb command I give I get back errors like: no permission; read-only folder, etc.
When I use the Kindle fire utility v0.9.3 and try to do temp root or root, I get
Error type 2 android.util.AndroidException: Can't connect to activity manager; is the system running?
adbd cannot run as root in production builds
PC detects the device as 'Android Composite ADB interface'. But cant do anything in adb. I can push files to /data/local/tmp folder. Thats about it.
adb shell mount is not allowed
when I do
adb shell mv /system/framework/framework-res.apk.bak /system/framework/framework-res.apk
I get:
failed on '/system/framework/framework-res.apk.bak' - Read-only file system
Can someone help rename this file back to original framework-res.apk?
Thank you very much;

You should be able to mount the system r/w with the proper command, hopefully someone will be here soon to give you the commands.
do you have fff & twrp available ?
if yes boot to twrp - there you have full adb availabe and you can copy your backup framework-res to the kf
same thing happened to me,but I made it worse and the computer wouldn't even detect the KF.I had to return it.
Sorry): I know how it feels

Hi,
I have been trying to educate myself by using TWRP (ver 2.3.2.1) and loading custom ROM's
I have used the format option in TWRP and now I can no long load or push any files to the SD card. I am able to use WegFresh Root Tool Kit (ver 1.6.1) and get to TWRP and to the bootloader (Android laying on it's back - chest open)
How do I re-create the proper file structure to be able to load ROM's once again. As an example..... "/system" is completely empty.
Thank you....
Update - The problem has been solved and it was due to the driver between my laptop and the Nex7. In Device Manager it was showing up as "Andriod Phone - Andriod Bootloader Interface" THIS WILL NOT WORK!
Your device manager has to say - "Android Phone - Android ADB Interface" for it to be able to push files to the Nex7
Thanks to all who helped me.

Thank you for the reply. I am unable to push any ROM (zip file) using TWRP or adb push.....
When I use a DOS prompt and type - "adb push rom.zip /sdcard" I get a reply "error: device not found" It seems as thought I can't write any files to the sdcard since I formatted the sdcard. Is it a permission issue? How can I restore the proper file structure of the sdcard so that a rom can be pushed and loaded?
Thanks

I've heard that Win8 causes issues, specifically with fastboot flashing files. I've heard you can install the drivers and is recommended to turn off driver signing.
Debug mode only works when the device is booted in the OS, not recovery. Do you have access to another OS, like Linux or Win7? This may be easier to do.

Just an update....
I am getting the same results with Win7 OS that I was getting last night when you were helping me. My Nex7 is displayed in the device manager as - "Android Phone - Android Bootloader Interface" in Win7 just as it is in Win8.
I have been using Wegfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit (1.6.1). It will show me the device ID went I click the button - show device id. I am able to reboot into bootloader. I am able to boot into recovery and get to TWRP and navigate around.
If I could just get a stock or custom ROM file to the NEX7 I would be in good shape. But I am unable to "adb push" anything to the nex7.
I will be glad to go "step by step" to trouble shoot this with you.
Thanks
I've not mypc, so I can't help you step by step.
You can use the advanced options of the toolkit to flash a zip or use the sdk to use the adb sideload.
google will help you to found how use "adb sideload", as the option you can see in recovery.
ADB Sideload
What is ADB sideload?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADB sideload is a new feature that was added to AOSP recovery in Jelly Bean. As of version 2.3, TWRP now supports ADB sideload mode. ADB sideload is a different ADB mode that you can use to push and install a zip using one command from your computer. Most likely ADB sideload won't be very useful for your average recovery user, but ADB sideload can be a huge time-saver for a ROM developer.
How do I use ADB sideload?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.Have a recovery installed on your device that supports ADB sideload like TWRP 2.3 or higher
2.Have newer ADB binaries installed on your computer. If it's been a while since you installed ADB on your computer, you may need to get the latest ADB binaries in platform-tools from the Android SDK. You will need version 1.0.29 or higher. You can find your current version by typing "adb version" at the command line.
3.Set the device into ADB sideload mode. In TWRP you do this by going to Advanced then ADB Sideload.
4.From the command line, type adb sideload /path/to/rom.zip
The file will be copied to your device to whatever the current storage location is that you have selected in the mount page. It will always be placed in the root of that storage location and named sideload.zip (e.g. /sdcard/sideload.zip) and it will automatically delete / overwrite any existing sideload.zip you may have on your device. As soon as the file is copied to your device, it will automatically be installed. When the install is finished you will be presented with a reboot system button so that you can reboot to test your zip.
Note that sideload mode is a separate ADB mode. While in sideload mode, regular ADB commands will not work. Once the zip has been copied to the device and the install starts (or if you hit the cancel button) regular ADB mode will resume.

I was having the same problem also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in Fastboot mode (Android laying on it's back - chest open), you cannot use adb. Here you can use Fastboot. Adb is use when in Recovery mode. Have you tried using fastboot.

I was having the same problem also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in Fastboot mode (Android laying on it's back - chest open), you cannot use adb. Here you can use Fastboot. Adb is use when in Recovery mode. Have you tried using fastboot.

You are correct, the OP needs to go into recovery (TWRP recovery is fine) and use adb to push files to the device- you can't use adb from fastboot.
I have used exactly the same method myself as I was in exactly the same situation myself.
Of course the OP needs adb on his PC from the SDK as mentioned earlier in the thread.
Still having the same error after installing adb from the sdk on my Win7 computer. I also made sure I installed JAVA and downloader the updates for the adb sdk.
The error is still - "error - device not found"
When I use TWRP to look at the files on my Nex7 the following folders are present
cache
data
dev
proc
res
root
sbin
sdcard
sys
system
tmp
usb-otg
default.prop
fstab.grouper
fstab.qcom
init
init.rc
ueventd.goldfish.rc
ueventd.grouper.rc
uevent.rc
The folder "sdcard is empty except for a twrp folder....
Any other things I should try?
Thanks
Hey guys,
a mistake happend to me and i installed a wrong GAPPS,
now the ROM alerts "Android Keyboard (AOSP) crashed" every second.
I can't put a newer GAPPS on the phone using USB, because sending a file to the device doesn't run.
I don't know why, the drivers are installed and i can see the root of my phone, but can't copy files bigger than a few byte.
So i tried sideload.
I booted to recovery mode and selected adb sideload, and installed all windows drivers successfully.
But: When i try to copy the file like "adb sideload rom.zip", it stucks at 1%..
Anybody here who can help me? :/
Thanks!

Hi guys,
I hope somebody can help me with my LG G2.
I was on the Cyanogenmod 11 M7 build and I flashed a remote control app via recovery. After that the phone doesn't boot anymore it's stuck at the cyanogenmod animation. So I would like to wipe and install cyanogenmod again but here is the problem. I don't have the CM11 file om my phone.
I booted to TWRP v.2.7.0.0 and tried to mount USB-OTG: E: Unable to mount '/usb-otg'
I tried ADB Sideload: Starting ADB sideload feature... then I opened the cmd (with admin rights) at my adb-tools at my PC (Windows 8.1). The command "adb devices" says: List of devices attached Thats it, no devices listed. Don't know what to do. How to transfer items from/to the phone. I think I have the newest drivers.
Edit: Manualy I chose the LGE ADB driver in the device manager after that there is a device listed in cmd. But if I try to do something like adb reboot recovery or adb push c:\xyz.zip it tells me error: closed
I would appreciate your help

Thanks, didn't try that, but found another solution. Problem was with the two adb-tools I used. After installing the whole sdk it worked.
So Problem solved, thanks
