I would verify the OTG cable works by trying a controller or another flash drive possibly, if you haven't already.
I had issues with getting my Sandisk flash drive to appear at first, but I got it eventually.

i also plan to buy a sandisk pendrive
and otg cable fro ebay ~
but dunno it working or nt

Do you have stickmount? If so when download stickmount make sure you go into the app and mount your chip. Should work

USB OTG + stickmount

I bought a brand new 64gb flash drive to use with my nexus 7 but while it works fine initially in windows it then shows up on the n7 as 'damaged usb stick'. Then when i plug it back in pc it requests reformatting.
I have successfully been using a 4gb flash drive on the n7 with stickmount though.
So it it possible my brand new flash drive is corrupt or are there limitations with n7 and stick mount that make it very 'hit and miss'?
Anyone else had similar issues?

I use centon datastick 64GB just fine.

Can we mount internal storage within a custom Recovery?

When I'm in TeamWin or Clockwork I cannot find a way to mount the internal storage (the 8GB or 16GB) of the Nexus 4 so I can copy files onto it from my PC.
Have been able to do this with my past two phones, One X and the HTC Desire (usually an option called Mount USB storage).
Can anyone do this, or is there some sort of limitation right now on the Nexus 4? I'm using Windows 8 which has given me headaches installing drivers, but fastboot works fine at the moment.
Bump as I reworded my question to something completely different than it was before :good:
No you cannot. You can push or pull files with adb though.

Thanks so much, I've been tearing my hair out for hours installing/reinstalling drivers on Windows 8.
Is this something to do with the Nexus 4 not supporting OTG? As the One X has internal storage (32GB) and I was able to mount it through USB okay.

Its because the nexus 4 and previously galaxy nexus don't use UMS. They use MTP.

Thanks again for the explanations.
If I ever somehow bork my OS installation and require to get a new zip file to the internal storage for flashing I'd just use adb to push? Not that familiar with adb, but now is the time to learn all the commands :good:

Well this blows.... So is there ANY way to use USB Mass Storage with the Nexus 4?
MTP SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moborobo works for me with it's own "file manager".

Thanks, looks good I'll check it out.
Is there any other way to enable USB Mass Storage though? Particularly from Recovery?
MTP has to be the worst mistake every made in the telco industry, it really is a steaming heap of technological junk. They don't even bother to market it as a 'feature' - it's clearly just a way to exact control over the device by the manufacturer in some way.
No it is not possible. Unlike older devices the /sdcard partition on the nexus 4 is formatted as ext4.
This brings numerous advantages when accessing it within the android environment.
In android it is mounted as a fuse which makes it even harder.
In recovery it is mounted as ext4 which means it technically is possible to Mount as a mass storage device. But you would only be able to access it from a Linux or Mac box as windows cannot access an ext filesystem.

EXT4 is totally fine, it's possibly one of the best file systems out there so I have no issue with that. I run both Linux Mint and Windows 8 and there are even Windows tools to at least READ EXT4 file systems.
So it IS possible to circumvent this MTP garbage then? I've formatted USB sticks and drives with EXT4 before and they mount perfectly fine in Linux and can even read them in Windows fine with the right open source drivers / utilities.

[Q] USB Storage via OTC cable

I rooted my N10, then installed some Apps for OTC Mass Storage detection. These Apps are detecting and mounting the USB drive.
With an explorer i can copy files form the N10 to the USB stick, but i cannot see these files on my Windows PC.
And when I copy from my Windows PC I cannot see these files on my Nexus.
Does somebody know what's the problem here?
Thanks!
Strange. Are you using Stickmount with ES File Explorer?
Just flash Craiggomez's ROM and you'll have native USB support. It's so much easier.

Exactly, I am using these two Apps....
My Windows is also not mounting the N10 storage via USB... kind of weird...

Is your N10 storage recognized by Windows when connected to the USB?

Yes, it should work. Do you know what the flash drive is formatted as? If you plug it into your computer (I'm assuming Windows) and go to File Explorer>Your Flash Drive>Right Click the image>Properties>File System
Tell us what it says. Sorry if my directions aren't the best, but you can just instructions on how to find file system type.
I tried two usb flash, the first didn't work and the second worked.
My 32gig patriot works just fine.

My 32GB Kingston does work over OTG...
Cheers!
Your question was answered in your original thread, yes it does. Try a different brand.

I successfully connected my 500 GB external hard drive to my phone with a $2 OTG cable.
Had to use Paragon NTFS to be able to access the drive, though (it's formatted to NTFS)
And it works with a 64gb ntfs formatted drive too.
Sent from my LG D-800 with Tapatalk
For NTFS drives, the better and more convenient solution is to use Stickmount.
Just put the ntfs-3g module (see playstore page of Stickmount for link) in /sdcard.
I use a 1TB NTFS external harddisk without own power supply (!) with the G2, and it works without a hitch! This phone is able to do what my tablets can't! Thumbs Up!
My Sandisk Extreme 32GB USB 3.0 also works perfectly on my G2 (D802)
to be more clear.
using twrp 2.6.3.3 and AOKP 4.3
will read and write on 32 or 64 GB flash drive formatted either fat32 or NTFS. :good:
using TWRP 2.6.3.3 and STOCK AT&T 4.2.2 rooted
will read and write 32 GB fat32 flash drive :good:
will not mount 32 or 64 GB NTFS flash drive
I havent had any issues with OTG using thumb drives or micro sd...of any size...either works just fine.

otg on lollipop?

hi, is it possible to read usb like this on nexus 4 with lollipop?
http://www.conrad.it/medias/global/ce/3000_3999/3400/3450/3453/752527_LB_00_FB.EPS_1000.jpg
Unfortunately no, USB OTG is possible with certain custom kernels, however external power must be supplied to the USB device as no power can be transferred through the nexus 4's USB port to the USB unit.
You need the following-
1. A OTG cable with external power supply
2. A custom kernel that supports OTG (Unleashed kernel does)
3. Chainfires USB stick mount app.
Hi
I am trying to use flash drive on nexus 4 I have the otg y cable and it is providing power to both flash drive and phone but the flash drive is not mounting and doesn't show anywhere on phone . And chain fire always gives this error whether flash drive is connected or not .
Any help ?
Do you have a compatible kernel?

Yes I did formatted it couple of times and it is working fine on my laptop.
I am ordering a new otg y cable maybe the problem is with the cable.

You need to active OTG from an app like Synapse, I've manage to connect to a USB key but I've some issues with the HDD
