[Q] About CWM 3.x... - Continuum General

Is the only reason its not being used because of edify and updater-scripts?
cause i remember a few mods being only cwm3x(yellow or gold).

That and the fact that it was extremely unstable. Failed flashes, and what not.

Weak... lol thanx

[ROM]CyanogenMod (CM6.1-GalaxyS-B20101120A-Captivate)

First off, this is VERY early beta, nightly build test stuff...
There are many bugs, gps doesn't work.
Thanks to Cyanogen and team.
Thanks to Aery for the compiled build.
Thanks to glitterballs for the kernel.
I take not credit for this, except putting it together in a single flashable zip for you guys.
If you don't know what CyanogenMod is, you should probably sell your android device and get an iPhone
This is flashable thru clockworkmod / rom manager.
Flash Cognition first, enable voodoo, boot up completely, then flash this.
Have fun guys...

Good sir! I love that your staying nimble and not just pushing 1 rom, responding to the peoples wants! Just finished download... thanks! and I will let you know how it goes.
edit* FASTTTT!!!!111 feels very responsive, I had to flash the google apps zip from the cmi9000 thread to get market working but its good now.
I am the most butthurt person right now. I just went through an hour of work getting the i9000 version installed. Imma cry now.
Are you gonna be working on it to fix stuff that dont work or you just posted a cw flashable zip?

Nice work DG! As eugene says, community = progress.
Ehh...just thought I'd ask, but you didn't just drop the kernel into a zip right? There is a step where /data /dbdata etc are converted from RFS to ext4 right?
I would try this right now if my internal SD wasn't out of space. Looking forward to this!

What worked for me.
One click to stock, boot up and master clear.
Odin to jpm, then installed sentiron's kernel (using sheps jpm rom might work too)
Used the sentiron kernel to load DG's CM6.1 rom file.
For those of us in a 850 megahertz area this didnt work for me. I think I needed to start with jg8 modem...

Have you had 850 working before? You need to enable 850 before Odin to JPM.
How can you enable it before JPM?? Every time I've tried accessing that particular setup on a non i9000 it won't let me in. That's why I stopped messing with them.

Look around man, there have to be at least a half dozen i9000 ROMs where people are successfully using the 850 band. If I recall you had to enable it on JI6 or maybe it was JG8. I only had to do it once and it was...a month or so ago by now.
This seems super snappy! But, why is there no Market app?
Also FYI, after first boot it would not recognize my external SD card until I ejected it and replaced it.

I can't be sure, but it looks to me like he just c/p part of the OP in TPS thread and forgot to change that up. I would just use the one jcase posted until he confirms/clears that up.
Why does it say you must upgrade radio to flash v1.4 when this is just v1.0?
I think he forgot to remove it from the perfect storm 1.4

Gingavitis?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
That's the right radio. You can flash that or the one jcase pasted via hboot. Their the same.
Is it just me or does Titanium Backup not work at all for Gingeritis?
is there anything different on this rom that would justify flashing over jcase or dhemke17's rom?
Things are different. Some apps are added to use space in system that could have been downloaded from market, and a changelog will be posted later (after you see for yourself) lol. I'm sure it has some good edits, but in the space race it wasn't about the ship, it was who made it to the moon.
Is there a way to fix The camera or do we need the source code?

i know with the GB roms coming out and the Camera being an issue but is skype even working ? would like to try this but i skype with the fiance alot now that shes in japan for work ( 4 months ).
Titanium works fine. I optimized every apk ported Rosie settings bunch of little edits. 100% batt and smooth charging 5 column app drawer. Took out recent apps Bunch of other things.

You're right, I absent-mindedly misworded my post. However the point about posts that aren't development to be posted on other subforums still stands.
Since you seem to be getting technical on my post, I will point out that the OP didn't have any form of punctuation in the post
Anyway, here is the official changelog from Koush's Google+ page:
Major changes:
Backups now use tar over yaffs for everything except mtd partitions. Backups got way faster.
Backups now preserve the filesystem type at time of backup. Restores will restore the appropriate filesystem type at restore.

Flashed this on wifey's shift last night, tried to run a backup from recovery. Was going good, then failed on /system. Tried running it again and it failed on /boot. Rebooted and phone is fine, however, I didn't have time to try anything else.
Has anyone else experienced back up issues with the new recovery?

Rom Manager is just a front end for the recovery. When you back up thru Rom Manager, it just scripts a reboot into recovery and run the nandroid backup...

Correct so skip all the app non-sense and just boot into recovery and do your nandroid... One sure fire way to have **** go bad is taking too many unnecessary steps, i.e. using an app to start a nandroid... I have had so many issues with cwm borking nandroids that I barely trust it, if at all... and adding an app to that equation, you are setting yourself up for an epic fail... I trust my fingers and brain to hit the right buttons... Not an app...

I use Rom Manager to do backups only when I need to name them. I've had good luck with it on my phone. But that being said. I've also had real bad experiences on other devices, really bad . Like every backup made thru RM being bad, and failing. But if I went thru recovery all was good. So it's not a failsafe method IMO.

Every recovery has a kernel in it. It needs that to work properly. The kernel inside of it though can be different then the one you use with Android.

I'm with this guy, though I must say that I appreciate the effort from randomblame. Following the rules and doing things properly leads to things that WORK properly. Thor's roms and recovery have issues, however useful they may be.
Great!
I have other android devices and was turned off by some people in the a500 community not following the law (by not complying with software licenses). I thought XDA had a policy about that, but maybe it is not applied to everyone.
As a software developer my self (mainly non-android) I was shocked by the actions of those parties breaking the law.
It is great to see people stepping up to fix the problem. Thanks for your work.
EDIT: I see people are removing thor's links from forum posts. Thats good. I remember seeing several over the past 6 months, maybe I saw them before they were removed. It is good to see people taking piracy seriously.
