Think you might want to say why you were changing your IMEI number.

IMEI changing is illegal (OP asking to get new), restore is different thing

That very much depends on where you are - it isn't illegal in some countries!
However, it isn't a permitted topic on XDA.

On a lighter note --
Steal someone's efs backup, flash it, generate/get a valid IMEI from one of those sources who were doing good business during the "Chinese Phone" fiasco in India and force feed that IMEI

should i use the efs which is of only g3 one's or can i use any android one's???
Srinivas buddy - i would like you to note that i am no techno whiz and therefore my comments on this problem may also be taken with a pinch of salt. If i had to hazard a guess, i would surely try a efs backup from G3 rather than any other phone. The problem which will arise after you have flashed the efs & its succesfully working, is that there will be potential conflict of the IMEI in case both phones are active. Therefore, it is imperative to change the IMEI at once - and people do say that getting a valid IMEI is possible
To repeat myself - i am in no way responsible for any damage which may result from the above and hope that the DEVs have a better solution than my wild-ass theory

ok...but im a little bit confused...can u clearly explain me...sorry for that
What i mean is that when you "borrow" the efs backup from another phone and flash it to yours - then both the phones will have same IMEI since both carry the same efs information. This may cause problems when both the phones are active on the cellular network and i believe it may also be illegal. Therefore, it is important that you should get a new IMEI number as soon as possible.
Please remember that this is all guesswork and not recommended. However, if you dont care about possibly bricking your phone then atleast choose a efs backup from a phone which is exactly the same model as yours & running the same build / firmware + consult the DEVs before this

i don't know wheather it will work or not, but just try this,
copy and paste efs folder of some other galaxy 3 to system folder using root explorer and edit .imei file with text editor and type your imei which will be there in bill or it will be on box and save it.

Check the above link and get yourself a valid/genuine IMEI number instead of getting into trouble!
if everything else fails, flash the official eclair and update it to froyo via kies. then take it to a samsung centre and say you lost your imei during official update through kies. they ought to fix it

I think its pretty much worth a try, to be completely on the safe side u could just flash a firmware with bootloader, when Odin is at bootloader flashing pull the USB cable and the battery, your phone will be a brick then. Just go to service center and tell them that it didn't turn on after a firmware update with kiss.

Fake IMEI Good News for some people

Hi!
I was recently faced with a problem of being a fake IMEI (004999010640000). My unit was just connecting with just one operator and not accept other SIM.
I researched a lot, talked a lot with developers as Odia and HellcatDroid (thanks to them for answers and in readiness for your interest in helping me). But I could not use more than one operator, even though my phone to be SIM unlocked.
After many tests and many disappointments, I confess that I was almost SGS II by negotiating an Optimus 2X, tonight I had the idea simply "take a look" inside the folder /efs/imei locating the file with mps_code.dat using Root Explorer. Inside there (in my case) is a code that refers to the Operator which shall belong to Rom (in the case of stock roms).
I located the code ZVV that in my country (Brazil), refers to mobile operator Vivo. But as use the operator TIM, for me nothing. Until I have the "brilliant idea" to simply change the code to ZTM respect to operator TIM, I rebooted the phone, and voila ... regained access to my carrier ... \ 0 / \ 0 / \ 0 /
I'm just looking for a way to recover the 3G, but otherwise everything is working again.
Edit: My 3G is working now!!! I gotta my phone back!!!
Nice to see some good news. 3G all the way now

Well that would be a bad title since his IMEI is still the default IMEI of 004999010640000.
Also I think there is something strange about this member, because it seems he does not want his original IMEI back, go figure ...
What's the go with the default ime?
Is it for manufacturer testing purposes?
Why wouldn't carriers block it.

I'm not teaching anyone to use phone illegally. Just had a problem with my IMEI after installing a rom forum here. I have regained my IMEI for a friend who works at Samsung, and it led directly to my phone to the factory, where they managed to retrieve the IMEI.

The most reliable way to recover my IMEI was taking my phone directly into the Samsung. Other ways to do it are not legal and much less desirable, since it is a crime.

Bull****.
Changing IMEI is illegal, however recovering IMEI is not. So if you were to change your IMEI from the factory one to one underneath the battery, there would be nothing illegal about this.

I don't know from where people was saying i`m using illegal methods to recovery IMEI number.
When i own SGS2 i just recovery my IMEI from a previous backup!
Before you accuse someone of committing an illegal act, try to understand the whole situation!!!
I'm saying that no matter which method you use to write IMEI, as long as you write the original IMEI back to the phone, then there is nothing illegal done.
Orignal S2 original IMEI
Hey , i think a genuine S2 comes with a genuine IMEI . Just flash it with the proper ROM or Stock ROM and it should be working fine .

You can purchase used motherboards on eBay but they may be hard to come by. Generally a used MB either has a bad ESN if it is carrier branded or it has something else wrong possibly water damage. What is wrong with your signal? Why are you trying to get a new MB

IMEI would not be blocked the phone sells fully unlocked. Try to
1. Do a hard reset
2. Flash new stock firmware via Odin
3. Try a different SIM from another carrier.
4. Try to restore the IMEI EFS NV-data.bin file.

poped my EE sim in phone found a good signal spot ,strange i can get data downloads but no voice or sms ,puzzled now
Your better off calling a carrier (3, t mob etc) ask them to check the imei. I brought 1 off ebay, worked great for 2 weeks then lost signal, tried loads of sims, some showed signal but wouldnt let me make or recieve calls or txts, searched online if the imei was blocked and just got msgs sayin "valid" in the end called 3 even though the phone is sim free but was sent out with a new 3 sim, they told me it had been blacklisted as a fraud case and the phone will never work and to bin the phone. This gave me a challenge, brought a 2nd phone from the states with a broken screen (US blacklisted imei can sometimes work in the uk) chamged the boards and now have a working s4

Help with imei

I am almost a complete noob but i have a question which may be considered illegal... let me explain, I am from nigeria and data cost here is very expensive but not to blackberry. Many using MTK devices have been able to change their imei to that of blackberry and it work.... But i'VE tried many ways but seems not to help.... I have you xposed imei changer and efs professional but non help... my question is if there is any way i can delete my current imei so efs professional can help write a new one
Illegal. No one here will help you. Sorry.
It's my understanding that you can change imei but you have to change it to a imei of another phone that you have in your possession and you have to always have that device but you can never use it because if you ever use it it will kill both devices and also this prevents the imei ever being duplicate to any other do you understand what I'm saying
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Premium HD app
Use mtk dorid tool where you will find imei change option but backup first
..
Logically u can but im against it. God forbid if u lost ur phone with the fake imei you couldnt find your phone back. And moreover there cant be two phone with same imei. Have you imagine that sun and moon rise together??? Even if u have dual sim both have unique imei
I think it's illegal but you should do something with MTK engineering mod app from play store ( if you don't have root ) or with chamelephon app if you have root

Do you mean that you were not able to connect to your network operator? And after changing your IMEI to the one the original sticker you were able to connect?
I seem to have deleted my IMEI after recovering via TWRP and now I am not able to connect to my network operator anymore...
I was in a similar situation a while back. The tool and steps found here helped me rewrite my IMEI on my A2017U. I lost it after a couple of mindless flashing.

It was simple and effective. Like I said, I rewrote my IMEI ( the one ln the back of my device) and didn't have a problem with cellular, data and/ Wifi.

Whoops than I misunderstood the subject and now I've kinda hijacked the topic with a different issue
Mi scuzi
Mmm... I succeeded in rewriting my IMEI numbers, had to go back to stock and had a hassle with rerooting the phone, but in the end that part was succesfull.
Sadly the network connection is still non functional. After rewriting the IMEI numbers it started of with full bars but no data connection, after a few minutes
the phone disconnected from the network all together.
Seems that the issue is a bit harder to solve and according to different topics pretty much unsolvable...

Well, I'm on the A2017U, and I followed the exact steps on the page. Make sure you meet the requirements before starting and take your time. It's easy to make a minor error in these things if you're desperately looking for solutions
After an update to B13 without bacukp, my A2017 B07 has lost the IMEI, when 'call' * # 06 #, imei 1 and 2 are 000 ..., when accessed through the phone menu, a different value of the real appears.
I tried
- https://www.gizdev.com/repair-imei-snapdragon-device/#prettyPhoto
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1zwvTU7ajM
but the two options unsuccessful.
Could someone help me in any way? If I had some EFS backup, could I change the IMEI with ease?
Sorry for my english, I'm using GoogleTranslate.
Hi!
I'm in the same situation. I tried with the tutorial "Ultimate Guide : Qualcomm Snapdragon imei and Baseband Repair", in androidbrick page, and it doesn't work either.
