Very interested! Coz I have poor signal reception inside my home (signal is worse than -100Dbm and sometimes vanishes at all) and basically I don't need cell-connection sometimes. So, how should I act to temporally disable cell-module? Airplane mode doesn't suit me coz I need working Wi-Fi connection, but Airplane mode turns everything off. All I need is only Wi-Fi enabled to preserve battery power. Help me please.
However I found solution myself. Look for OneClick Widget on the Market. It allows to keep WiFi on even when changing to Airplane mode, also it allows to toggle WiFi when in Airplane mode.
If I haven't activated 3G, does that mean the radio is disabled, or could it be still using battery power?
Put it in airplane mode then enable WiFi, then the only radio that's on is your WiFi radio. That's what I do on my deactivated Droid, otherwise its looking for 3g...

I forgot all about doing that on my Xoom. I did that just now, since my 3g has not been activated.
Awesome! Thanks for reminding me about that.
Yeah, originally I didn't do anything about it....but then I was thinking that maybe it was using some battery so I enabled airplane mode. Battery has been much better. Hopefully there will be a ROM or some other way to disable it in the code, so that I don't have to leave airplane on.
You can also disable mobile service in the settings. It's preferable since doesn't airplane mode also disable gps?

If you go into Settings in Wireless and Networks, if Airplane mode is turned off you can choose Mobile Networks and turn off data selected.
That should stop the antenna from activating without using Airplane mode.

I tried that originally and the battery monitor still showed the 3G radio being on. Also even doing that it still prompts on every reboot to be activated while in airplane mode it doesn't

My understanding though is that this will ONLY disable data. It won't disable the physical radio that connects to the cell network. And as long as that radio is enabled (even if data is disabled) it will contribute to the draining of your battery. By putting the device in airplane mode, it will actually disable the RADIO, not just the data coming in through the radio.
I just switched to Airplane mode. Let's see if this will help battery life (not that I had to complain anyway)

Originally after about 30 hours I would have around 20% battery left. After enabling airplane mode I have 86% battery left after 1 day and 7 hours. I think it makes a big difference.
So is this right? The only way to disable the radio is to actually enable airplane mode and then turn wifi back on? Will the GPS still work?
I found with mine just on standby I used 17% battery in Cell Standby. I went into Mobile network settings and unchecked Data Enabled and it dropped considerably, down to about 3% (still while I hadn't been using the Xoom).
I'm going to try airplane mode tonight.
Is there any hope to activate 3G? I am living in europe (Denmark) and here is no verzion.

Anyone know if I can disable the cell signal automatically on the unrooted nexus 6P?
I know I can pop it in airplane mode and then turn back on bluetooth & wifi but I want to automate this process so that when I'm at work it will toggle the cell radio off.
Any ideas?
Ok, so I setup tasker to turn on Wifi and Bluetooth when I put the phone in airplane mode. It's not ideal but it's a start.
If anyone's got a better idea, please let me know
I am assuming I can't turn off just the cell without root.
Can't you use NFC tags for tasks like this?
I can't find anything saying it would work airplane mode or turning the cell off though.
since we have root for our phones can someone tell me what to change to have wifi calling on all the time not just when we have low signal?
Just for those who might not know: even without root, you can always force WiFi calling by (1) turning on Airplane Mode (which turns off WiFi if it's on); (2) turning WiFi back on, leaving Airplane Mode on (you can also re-enable BT and NFC). Then you've got WiFi calling.
But it would be more convenient to have WiFi calling stay turned on without needing Airplane Mode. I don't know if/how rooting lets you do that.

Thanks. I know this already. You know what i'm looking for. I hope someone will have answer.
this has been very vexing mainly because I don't know how to craft the google-fu to get beyond "no wifi in air plane mode".
Basically, when you turn on airplane mode it disables wifi. You can then enable it an all is good. However, for me it appears that when you disconnect from a wifi network in airplane mode the wifi network can no longer be connected. Once you turn airplane mode the wifi network comes back up but if you enable it the wifi network is gone. Other wifi networks are still there in both modes but just not the one you forgot.
Using wifi analyzer the wifi network is still being detected by the phone but the phone won't connect.
Any thoughts on how to solve this one?
For future readers it appears that if you run into this issue you can turn off airplane mode connect and then turn airplane mode on again and it will work. Sometimes. This is my solution until I can figure out what the heck is actually happening.
