Touchscreen Stopped Working - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sadly I couldn't resist and pop the back cover off as my screen was only slightly out,
Tightened the screws not too tight and put the cover back on,
Now few hours later the touchscreen started acting up,
Apps, browser all opening up on there own,
Couldn't even restart it it so held the power to switch off and on,
But now on startup the screen doesn't respond to any touch,
So can't unlock the screen or even shut it back down,
Holding the power button to switch off only restarts it...
Anyone know of a solution to fix this???

Click to collapse
You can use an OTG cable with a USB mouse or keyboard as a method of input.

Maybe you could pop the back cover off again and check to make sure that none of the connections are loose.

Just waited for the battery to die out and now it seems to be working,
But still an lock up as before

Well it didn't last long already stopped working,

I just popped the back cover off didn't want to wait for the battery to die,
But soon as I pop the cover it it working fine,
Soon as the cover goes back on it starts acting up

That didn't last long,
Look like I'll have to send it back

Streak Touch Response Messing Up

This just started yesterday but the bottom of my screen (the side where the serial port is) seems to be less responsive than normally. When I go to click to respond to a text message I find myself having to press it repeatedly. Sometimes the whole screen becomes un-responsive or if I click up top it will actually make a response at the bottom. Could this be at all due to an app or something I installed? Because normally when I put it on standby (pressing the power button once) and turn it back on it will fix it all but the unresponsive bottom section for texting only. Does this make sense to anyone why this could be happening?
Just having touch problems all together
i keep pressing the screen so many timees... even tried to restart and take the battery out. but still same problems
any help
Thanks
Try recalibrating the touch screen guys, that might help. Also if you have a screen protector on, try removing it, I found my first one got more unresponsive over time.
I dont like screen protectors for that very reason and dont use them. But where is the screen recalibration? I've looked and looked for it since this started happening. It's half way working now and really just varies. So if there is a way to calibrate I really feel like that would fix it. Thanks!!

yeah mine did that and calibration fixed it.
power it off, hold down both volume buttons and power it on, holding down all three until the menu appears.
Choose option 3 and away you go!
hth....
Haha, this completely fixed it!!! I'm so excited right now becaus I was terrified I did something to it. It works perfectly again. Thank you guys so much!!!

It's nice to be able to give some advice that works for a change

After taking the phone out of standby, screen becomes unresponsive.

This happens often, but not every time.
I press the power button to put the phone into standby.
I press it again to take it out, the screen turns on, I try to press the unlock jog or any of the buttons along the bottom - nothing.
I noticed sometimes if I'm quick, it begins to animate the jog, or I get a vibration from a button along the bottom, but then it goes unresponsive.
Putting it back in/out of standby fixes it most every time.
Any ideas?
I have this same problem. Usually worse the longer it was in standby. Helps somewhat to reset the phone once a day, and also use a task killer program to kill apps you arent using.
I ended up taking the phone back to the store and they replaced it with a brand new one. The new one works flawlessly. Also, my wifes had been working since we got them saturday without issue too.

Seems to happen to me sometimes right in the morning when I take it out of the charger... a bit annoying but nothing too serious

[Q] Anyway of locking front & volume buttons when locked?

I just got the official case for the Arc and whilst its very nice it has a couple of flaws:
1: If you're playing music and you slide the phone into the case, the case is so snug that it turns the volume down. The only way to turn it back up is to slide the phone out and turn it up but then you can't slide it back in!
2: Had the phone in the case for a few hours and when I removed it I noticed the phone was very warm and had lost a lot of battery. Looked at the battery usage and it said the screen had been on the whole time the phone was in the case.
Now I suspect that the case is pushing the buttons thus turning on the screen. Theres two ways of remedying this, 1: stop using the case or 2: turn the buttons off when the phone is locked only allowing the power button to turn on to unlock.
Is there anyway of doing this??
widgetlocker will do that, but how did you get to see how much time the display was on? when i go into battery usage i only see how much percentage of power each item has used

Help please...

I put it on charging and when I woke up in the morning it won't turn on and was a little warm on back...
it's been more than 6 hours and its still nit turning on
EDIT: it still gets warm from back when I put on charging but screen remains off
just found out it was on the whole time but screen is off and I only hear touch sound when I press on the lower side of screen as if keyboard was on
Edit:it's working all fine but screen is off I can hear sounds I can unclock too
ALL I KNOW IS THAT ITS CAUSED BY MAGNET COVER OF MINE
Have you tried holding the power button for 20-30 seconds?

[Q] screen no longer working

Phone was working with no issues until the other day. I was viewing a web page and noticed the text didn't look quite right, it seemed to be shimmering. Then a bit later on switching to the camera app the screen was just a lot of green flashing lines, pressing home button worked and then starting the camera again it would either be the same or would work properly. Then later that evening after using the phone fine opening the s cover the screen would not come on but the menu and back buttons would light up, pressing the power button a couple of times would make the screen appear. Then that stopped working as well, and no even then back and menu buttons don't light up. the phone still seems to work as plugging in the headphones and pressing the button on them starts my music playing, but I can't get the screen to turn on at all.
The phone has never been dropped has been very well looked after and is immaculate , there are no scratches on the screen and I can't see any cracks (from a pressure break) either.
Any ideas?
this might sound like im trolling, but did you try turning it off and on again?
seriously, your screen is probably broken. send it to sammys customer service or whereever you bought your phone and let them check and/or repair it
