I liked the phone before the upgrade with only GPS being a slight problem which got fixed after changing gps.conf (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731462).
Now the games I used to play and even movies slow down. Games like "Tower Raiders" struggle to run at full speed but the biggest problem is the UI. Its no longer smooth scrolling and the idle screen lock sometimes does not unlock the instant when swiped. This is not nit picking but when your using the phone as a phone… I want to make calls NOW not in a few minutes after the UI resets.
Ive always modded my phones and this one I didn’t want to because I liked the default system. Now I need to back level the phone due to its unusable interface. Not sure if this is something T-mobile will assist with but most likely need to do this myself. I wanted a factory phone and ended up being forced back down the mod firmware route.
dont upgrade!
GT-I9000
Firmware 2.2
I9000BOJP3
FROYO.BOJPB
just wish I wrote down my old firmware details.
message for the XDA members
Does anyone know how I can back level the firmware? I dont know what it was before kies did its stuff.
have you done the ole faithful factory reset have upgraded 2.2?
No Problems
Ran the upgrade last night, phone runs much better with many things now working as they should have before the upgrade

Your last post was regarding vodafone 2.2 with the kies. Which firmware are you using, vodafone or tmobile. god knows about vodafone but know tmobile from the support pages have changed this firmware in some fashion.
--------------
not thought about factory reset, thanks i'll try this tonight as I use the phone for business. Games I can live without but for me, 2.2 brought very little over the loss of UI speed. I might have missed something outstanding in 2.2 (flash support not being one of them) but hope clearing the phone before retrying helps speed things up. All I can say is that before the 2.2 upgrade I was very happy, now im to be honest a little naffed off.
Well XDA, I'm finally back from Air Force training. There seems to have been a lot happen in the last 30 days.
Can anyone point me to the best (least buggy/best looking) ROMs and themes? I've been looking at some but I haven't had a chance to read the reviews about the different ones cause the topics are too large.
I'm currently on 1.57 with the old (30 days ago) OC kernel from kholk. Preferably I want 2.3.4 instead of froyo.
Thanks all.

If you don't use bluetooth which will probably be fixed as soon as beta is released anyways, PLEASE TRY CM7!! The camera is weird but you can defiantly use it if you have to take a picture. It's when you close it you can't reopen it without restarting the phone. It has like a 20-25 second boot up (and no lag afterwards) so it's not a big deal. I would at least try it out.
If you know that won't work for you than try Kenneth's Alien rom. It's what I had before CM7 and I didn't mind it. Good luck.
Update finally available to UK Unbranded owners via PC Companion.
Edit: If you want an FTF to flash via Flashtool, please see KingVortex's thread. Thanks, KingVortex!

Thanks- Finally updating the wife's Z now/
She didn't want me to mess around with hers even though I kept mine up to date by Flashtool!!
Finally. They took ages with this! Been using Spanish version for a while, need to send the phone back to Sony (Glass back coming unglued) so might as well flash UK generic.
Thanks for letting us know. :good:

I got this last night.
Typical that it appeared less than a week after I bit the bullet and flashed Netherlands 4.2.2!
I wonder how long it'll take for us to get 4.3 though...
isn't there a newer update .244 that other countries have now got that sorted a lot of bugs of .423?
which means whilst we're on 4.2.2, we're still behind much of the rest of the world. *sigh*

Just have a look through there. You need to read about using Flashtool, then download the TFT file you want from the list.
I actually spoofed the Sony PC companion into thinking my XZ was a belgian one, and it downloaded and upgraded for me, but you need root for that.
If anyone needs the FTF of this software version to flash back to UK software for warranty purposes etc., I have uploaded it and posted it here -

Going to use this to get back to UK generic software, was using Vodafone before just to try 423 out while waiting.
But you shouldn't need it for warranty as far as I know, Sony couldn't care less about what software you flash (the repair centre will just flash the one your supposed to have as an "upgrade"). I have sent an Arc in twice with the wrong firmware, and my fiancee's S went in with a custom one and was fine.

That's useful information. Thanks.
Perhaps I'm just overly cautious with sending any of my electronics for repair as, in my experience, many companies will try to wriggle out of repairing them for free for the smallest reason. I personally restore stock firmware to any phone before sending it for repair if possible just so they cannot use that reason to deny warranty. I probably will still continue to do so, even though I now know it's a waste of time.

Hello Folks,
to make it short, i had a problem updating to 4.4.4 (23.0.1.A.0.167), after lots of googling and digging i decrypted the files i downloaded using PCC Companion and what i got was really shocking.
the old version rom (.314) was the one included in the downloaded files, I LOVE YOU SONY, you didn't even bother to check the files you are sending to us.
Seems that the same problem happens in several regions, as lots of talk i found when googling the problem.
And that explains everything, the PC Companion downloads whats on the server as the new 23.0.1.A.0.167, while actually its the old .314, then when the mobile shuts down to the flash mode the error happens
Also here at the GENERAL forum the ROM posted twice, and they reply "its the old one", unbelievable ...
please check the attachment

if you dont like the brand then change, ranting here isnt going to change that
as for i, i have had 3 Defective Devices from sony and they Were all Z2 replacements, any other xperia i have ever used or owned has been fine, as for the firmwares for each currently supported device they are in my eyes getting better, security is getting better and other Devices which recieved 4.4.4 were rocket fast, the NeW UI is first to come to z2 aside Z3
as said previously Ranting here will not change anything, i doubt it would detour other people from buying from sony all too much.
I flashed it using Sony flashtool. All good here. Pretty much a z3 now thicker. Lol. I had a z3 sold it. And this update made the z2 a z3 no kidding.

Guys, Russia, Belorussia and Kazakhstan started to receive 950Mb OTA from yesterday.
Lot users report black/grey line/white screen on boot, touch response, but screen not working. Sony Companion software doesn't recover (downloading same OTA firmware).
There are reports of broken TWRP and loosing TA.
Guys on 4PDA do some research, but no clear workaround yet
Most of issues with dual sim H4113 units.
Sony support confirmed mass issues, "soon" they fix it.

it was removed from XperiFirm yesterday evening or this morning right after blame wave over support, only .123 left there. Bugged one was removed according to 4PDA member who was tracking this. I can only ask him upload if he has it on local drive.

dunno ;D guy decided to determine that marked a2 are firmware downloaded from different tool i guess. nothing behind dat.
Yep, found his post. One is downloaded using FlashTools' XperiFirm other via standalone XperiFirm. Or at least that's how I understand his post.
Did recover over 7 pcs of XA2 H4113. Had them as my employees devices.
Utilizing Sony Companion, since they had draw back 9.0 from there and replaced with XXX.123 (8.0), had to use wipe data option, otherwise it didn't work.
S/W downloads .123 and flashes it. Device seems to work as before, but some minor bugs pop-out from time to time: like Settings app crash, camera crash (on mode change), no more grey lines (buit-in tests show pass)
All of my devices were locked BL, and no OEM unlock allowed. Not flashed any custom firmware./twrp.
That helped me, but not everyone, some ppl with same state couldn't return to normal, in worst cases they played to much with bugged screen and it went hardware broken (overheat)...
The cure is not for everyone, like as that decease, there are cases of successful updating for 9.0 pie same device. Very very strange...
Had phone call from Sony after all flame, they said using Sony Companion is the only solution currently officially available, even service centers do the same procedure. Regarding stable 9.0 Pie they will report additionally.
Don't you guys have older firmwares from the flash tool? I can already imagine sony just leaving xa2 unupdated forever as they won't even try

Those failure 9.0 are in the links above, on your own risk, i'm not the owner.
XA2 will be updated of course, 9.0 is on road-map along with 10. And ofc i will share all the guides if i receive (looks like for failed devices we will utilize Sony companion with reset, that's just thoughts)

never heard they launched it for other regions, only 3rd grade countries were involved as pre-launch stage, kinda rough start to be honest. And as i was told global launch is shifted from 4th of March until resolved all potential risks, another test loop involved.

Guys, there was popped notification of 9.0 ota once again, couple days ago. Keeping in mind that previous one killed my screen driver, I decided to wait, but same day ota disappeared (cis regions)...
4pda guys now have completely different experience:
- blank screen on boot (just delay or constant)
- bad camera app experience, especially over 4k mode
- shorter battery life
Be careful.

The update is successful. Installed this morning by Xperia companion on my XA2 single SIM, everything is fine and the battery lasts longer. The only thing is that the task manager I did not find the windows with horizontal scrolling but with vertical scrolling as in android 8. For the rest it's fine.

1:01 am on April 9th 35% Battery
The only thing is that I wanted to find the task manager with the windows horizontally, otherwise satisfied.

I'm in Brazil. I just got the notification to reboot. I did. It now loops on a blank screen on boot.
I read about the 342 version bricking phones and was aware there was a problem. But then they released 352 and people started to report the update was fine. So I didn't really worry, although I was a little concerned in the back of my mind. But then I thought "What's the chance they SCREW THIS UP TWICE IN A ROW, and I'm one of the victims?". Well, there is my answer.
I think I'll call support now. This is a freaking mess...

Wait, no, it came back, after some 30 min or more.... What the hell? I've had several Android phones since 2010, this never happened before. I seemed bricked, looped over and over, I tried the hard reset shortcut a few times.... Then I took out the SIM to put it on my tablet, so I could call support, and the damn phone came back from the dead. Now I put the SIM back in and it works... I have no reasonable explanation for this.
