[Social] Post you IRC/imo/kik/watsapp IDs. - Galaxy 3 General

Hi!
I was reading a post from microgeek about getting together on 'kik' to talk about G3 or android in general. I decided to take it further. Here you can share your imo , kik, watsapp or any other IM IDs. That way, If you find anything, new like any app, game, trick hack, we can immediately share. Also if people face any problems, doubts, questions, we can discuss it easily. Just a suggestion.
If this thread is useful, we'll keep it, or else we can delete it. :silly:

Everyone add me on kik. My ID is : Geekabyte.

Good idea, but i think an irc channel would be better.

There are free options like AndChat and AndroIRC.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a protocol for real-time Internet text messaging (chat) or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication via private message as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing.

I've just registered the channel '#g3' on freenode.net. A quick way to get started is to go to http://webchat.freenode.net, enter your XDA username as the nickname (so we can identify you), enter 'g3' in the channel and then (after doing the capcha) press connect. It's similar on AndChat and AndroIRC, although you have to choose your server (the server is irc.freenode.net or freenode.net depending on your client).
I would recommend registering your nick (to avoid impersonation by other members), go here for more details.

XDA-Devs IRC

It seems like it's not working... I saw Olipro in there, that was the only name I recognized. It seems like no one's talking! Anyone know of a different server name to use with an IRC client that isn't for a web-based script?

[Q] Galaxy Tab IRC?

Anyone know why #ModADroid-Galaxy-Tab IRC is invitation only now?
edit: With apologies from Deodexed, it is now open again! Information below:
Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet
It is now in the channel #ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet, don't ask me why.
Which Android IRC client do people prefer around here?
AndroIRC seems to work well on my tab.
I like Android IRC, it works well with lots of servers/channels. Also, andchat is very popular but I have problems with it connecting to 1 channel (all the others worked) so I switched.

What is the server that you guys are using to connect to this channel? I've never connected to the XDA /via irc. Thank you.
Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet
you need an IRC client like mIRC or xchat to connect.

Thank you. Maybe burningembers can add this info to his first post!
Thank you. Is there a way so when I use AndroidIRC it saves these settings? If I reboot or turn off the device I would have to re-enter everything again? I believe the server information will save. Just not sure if the # information would.

it saves in yairc
below the server there should be a join channels (or something along those lines) area where you can input the information. If not there is a connect command field where you could just put in /join #ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet

I haven't used IRC in years, but you need to register your nickname: /msg nickserv help or /msg nickserv register help
That'll give you more information.

Did you then "identify", aka sign in? After registering, you need to sign in each time you connect to the network. I believe that's /msg nickserv identify <your_password>

Yes, I did.
Is there a command I would need to put in after it identifies me so I can retry my connection to the server without having to open a new tab?
Well, something changed, because I can get in fine now.
Carry on, gents.
how do i join or register

Moto G chatroom

Searched a bit but could not find a dedicated IRC chatroom for our phone.
I made one in the coldfront servers. Tried freenode but #MotoG was already registered to an inactive user.
Follow this link to directly connect:
https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.coldfront.net/#MotoG
If you have already set-up an IRC client (ChatZilla etc.), then here are the details for you:
Server: irc.coldfront.net
Channel: #MotoG
If the turnover is good, i'll register one for developers too if they wish to interact.
Enjoy!

Sure but IRC is live chat!
Connecting to multiple servers tends to turn me off from channels. #motog may have been taken but was it active? if not you could always contact freenode staff and have em "restart" it, or go with something more like #Moto-Falcon or properly with ##MotoG

Bypassing web filters on android.

Hello all! I hope I'm posting this in the correct place. Anyway I'm here to ask if anyone knows how to bypass web filters on android? At my school McAfee filters any inappropriate websites, this includes forums, blogs, and things of that nature. I tried using Orbot but I'm stuck setting it up. Any help will be appreciated.
You can use tunnelguru.com to browse everywhere you want, if the website is allowed within the mcaffee policy
Oh cool, I'll give that a try. Thanks for your response!
The website was blocked :/ any other suggestions?
Do you want something that is free?
You could also consider setting up a tunnel from your home, but it's somewhat complicated.
vpn
Another option could be a VPN service. I've used VPNBook.com before with satisfactory results, and it should work for you too as long as the firewall doesn't block the ports that the VPN uses. I remember back in my last couple years of high school, the web filters were starting to get ridiculously strict, VPN is the only way to use legitimate websites sometimes.

It is possible to create your own vpn server at home and this would allow you toconnect to anything, this is possible easily as there are many guides on the internet step by step to create a vpn service. !

That also does work. It was a little tricky to set up, but I eventually got it going once myself. If you're concerned about privacy using a public VPN like VPNBook, doing it yourself could be a great alternative.

If my suggestion helped don't forget to hit thanks
There are loads of guides online for this however I cannot post links but my search query in google was "create your own VPN server at home step by step" and then i chose the top result and it is a perfect step by step guide on how to install a VPN Server in your home to use as a proxy bypass.
