Arc S with ICS is so slow. - Xperia Arc General

Hi guys.
My girlfriend has an Arc S for 4 months. Before that, I upgrade for her some cooked ICS but it's so slow, so I decided to change to ICS original Rom.
I did some modified with battery percentage and xloud & Beats Audio, nothing more. But I noticed the Rom is so slow. For example: it took 4-5sec to open Dialpad or contact. 3-4sec to open Camera app. I just install Go launcher/locker/sms. Though I would try another cooked Rom. Could you give me some ideas or I might downgrade to 2.3.4.

Lag is a problem with ICS.
That is a reason, why I still use Gingerbread(4.0.2.A.0.62).

Downgrade to gingerbread

for the dialpad, you can solve it by apps
also, apex/nova laucher are more useful than GO in ICS

Questions
Hi everyone!
I'm a little bit confused about my phone performance. Still trying all the possible rom for my lovely arc, but it still has lag. I HATE this LAG! Every time when I'm open the dial pad, open sms app, etc. I'm on ICS from alpha stage to 4.0.4. Try ALL the avaible ROM on my arc without any success. It still has lag. Today, I think to downgrade to Gingerbread because this poor performace. But I think this is the end. I have the best looking phone ever and want to downgrade to an older system?! It's a joke. Not enough 1.6ghz and 512Mb RAM?! Why not?!?!
Please anyone suggest me a solution...
(I know, sell my "old" single core phone... :/ )
PS.: If someone tell me a safest way to downgrade to GB I will hit thanks button...

Download the gb firmware, download flashtool 6.x version.
Open flashtool and follow the onscreen instructions. Fairly simple.
Search for my thread about how to downgrade, there's a link for the gb ftf file there.
Good luck

CPU has not much to do there about the performance, also graphics and RAM play role. Just overclocking won't give you that big boost.
I use Arc S and am totally happy with GB. I don't miss ICS, it doesn't have any specific features, that are so good, that I couldn't be without,

THx for everyone!
I'm on 2.3.7. and still with happy with happy with that. For me, the speed is instant, always!!!

unlock your boot loader
install arcknight kernel 3.5.1
install jelly ice bean rom 4.2n
you will have a beautiful smooth arc.

Just swtiched back to GB.
ICS good for Dualcore devices, not single core. For Arc & Arc S, GB is the best.
p/s: I don't really like Go Launcher & Go stuffs but it has a great customization.

advantage of cyanogenmod

Soon Samsung will stop updating the galaxy s so should i install cyanogenmod 7 now or wait till the stop supporting it ...is it easy to install from gingerbread jvq I've looked at the instructions but didn't understand how to do it and is every thing working on the phone with cyanogenmod
Everything is included but the CyanogenMod for I9000 is still an unstable version. FM radio oes not work and there is a feww bug here and there.
To install it, you need to revert back to a Froyo firmware which include a bootloader because the Gingerbread bootloader is not compatible entirely with CyanogenMod. Then, you root your phone, install ClockWorkMod or any kernel that has it, download the ROM, put it in the SD Card, restart the phone in recovery, then install zip from SD Card, choose the Rom Zip file and everything should install correctly.
Here is a link to the whole process LINK
Don't forget to backup your apps, and other relevant information and more important, make a backup of your EFS folder in case your IMEI is screwed up during the upgrade.
You will need to flash back to a ROM with Froyo Bootloaders first, but the installation is now very, very easy....use my guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101534
As for the advantages, CM7 is the fastest and smoothest ROM available, with a high level of customization, some exceptional features like the Theme Chooser, and a very active development and user community.
The disadvantages are that the battery life usually tops out at about a day and a half between charges max, and certain hardware features don't work as well as they should, due to the fact Samsung won't release their sources. These include the 780p video camera (lower resolution films fine), FM Radio and TV Out.
IN the end, the only way to really know if CM7 is for you is to try it out and see. Some users ultimately say they prefer the Samsung ROMS while others, like myself, are addicted to the high performance and tweaks of CM7 (as well as the community).
Come by the CM7 thread in the Dev forum, read back a few pages to see what is going on and join the discussions.
Having CM7 on SGS is like owning a Ford GT40. Beatiful and powerful beast, but if you actually dare to use it, it'll probably break down or you run out of juice in the middle of nowhere.

Thats a great way of putting it
Made me laugh, There is an ounce of truth in there !!
Still a good ROM tho, a mega improvement over stock samsung roms at least.
Battery life for me is pretty much the same as stock, the performance is unrivalled and it has more functionality. For me it also more stable than 2.3.4 ROMs which have all kinds of dodgy bugs and random lags.
The battery life has been improved a lot in CyanogenMod, but it is still a bit high when using packet data.

Im not a heavy user, I play a lot of games tho (my misses fails to entertain me)
i tried CM7 when it first came out, I liked it alot, i thought it was great, God knows what its like now... 4 months later ??

It is as stable, or more stable, than any other ROM for this phone...
I dont find significant speed difference for Samsung JVQ, but it is more configurable, very usefull bits too, and it has the nicest theme, Honeycream, for someone that doesnt like green or blue themes...
The dialer and the camera apps are garbagge compared with samsung' s, but you can use the market like I did, got RocketDial and Camera360...
And you get a new version almost every night, good if you have nothing better to do then flashing the phone , plus they fix small errors and implement new features, Samsung is not doing that for the SGS any more...
EDIT battery is not a problem anymore...

Recommend me a ROM

Hi, I am searching a good ROM for my girlfriend´s X10i. I have tried many but always I have been having problems. I´m on LOCKED BOOTLOADER
- First, I installed Feralab v20 for LB. But I suffered for random reboots and some slowdowns.
- Second, I tried JAF rom, but, like with v20, I suffered random reboots. I think my phone doesn´t like Ferakernel...
- Third, I tried X10S v8.3, first with stock SE kernel, and I had battery drain problems, then I switch to Doomkernel without overclock for LB, and I also suffered battery drainage problems.
- Forth, I tried stock SE 2.3.3, with bravia, sound stutter and FPS Unlock, and it gives me an error when trying to activate WIFI :crying:
- Now, I am with DiXperia v8 Extraordinary, Stock Version, but sometimes my phone is in the PIN access screen, like it has been rebooted.
So, I am not asking for something special, I only want something like offcial SE 2.3.3 rom, with basic functionality, but not as slow and laggy as that...
Can you help me please?

Yes, well there is a new stock based rom that was just recently released by a new guy that is supposed to very fast and stable, I just can't seem to find the particular link. Very similar to Achotjans Stock Replacement rom as I recall. Oh well, I don't know where it went. It was creating quite a bit of news around these parts. In all seriousness though, if you've tried 5 roms and aren't satisfied then bite the bullet and unlock the bloody thing and load Mokee KickAss v0.4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686110 It is CM7 based and should satisfy you and your Girlfriend. Very Fast. Very Stable. Look for the Soft Buttons zip in the thread and have soft buttons and a functional camera without the crashes of CM9.

I like Vasishta's ICS one... but for gingerbread I used the JoyOS1.2.2 Port (kinda like Iphone but a wonderful battery life: 2 days with standard battery 1500mah)
I think I have found the appropiate ROM. X10S V9!! At the moment, I haven´t had any reboots, or battery draining issues, like I had with X10S 8.3
what about Achotjan Stock Replacement rom? have you tried it?
I'm thinking about change my girlfriend's X10 as well. Locked bootloader too. But if i choose a problematic rom (reboots, battery drain) she will kill me.
If you want stock feel, super fast and for lockedbL and with no problems I personally suggest this one. after install go back and scroll down in the first tread and download one of the other homescreens if you don't like the one that comes with it(I don't practically do but you may)

Sick of every 2 days buggy custom rom updates

I'm really tired of trying the buggy custom ROMs on my Arc S, anymore. Every few days, the devs(many of them "devs") release a new ver. with more bugs. Even in Aroma?! Tried almost every ROM and everytime there are bugs. And if, by mistake, there aren`t, the dev decide's to make an update and spoil the hole thing. And sometimes the update is just visual, but other bugs appear. And the bugs are so common in most of the roms, that I think all the devs just visually customise the same buggy rom.
Havin in mind the above, I want a stock rom, with only improvement - no lag in phone app and camera, quickpanel settings with % battery, may be a camera mod, for better pics and AOSP look, and no stupid rom updates that bring bugs. Want a rom for the rest of my phone's life.
Is there a solution for me, or I'm just dreaming
solution - unpack ftf and do it on your own, it's not that hard given the time spent posting this thread..
Hmm I think you are better off to stock fw. And I think you dont deserve the hard works they put on to this for free

What rom to choose for U8800pro?

Hello,
I may sound like a noob, but thats only because i didn't play with these roms much so far... so, yes, i am a noob
I managed to upgrade my U8800pro to 4.03 official thanks to some of you.
Now i am looking through the forum and many threads and many many custom roms, but i cant decide which one to go with since all seem to have problems...
So the question is: which rom is the most stable+fastest for U8800pro? It would be also nice if normal features (calls sound ok, network works ok, "notification drawer", gmail, youtube, play store, gps, wifi, tethering (wifi, usb), music playback, if possible radio, if not also ok) are also present and working. I really hope there is such rom out there. I dont mind if it is based on 2.x or 4.x (ok, i prefer 4.x, but if some 2.x is better, i will go with that), as long as it works well.
I also have U8800 and there it is easy choice. Go with Aurora, and everything (well, almost everything) works as intended. I also looked for Aurora mod for U8800pro but the best i could find is a mod for Aurora 4.x, while there is already Aurora 5.x out there.
I will post instructions for upgrading 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.03 later on, since i had problems upgrading myself for future noobs to use.
And thanks in advance

Stock Gingerbread
best ROM
nothing can beat it..
ALL custom ROMs for U8800PRO have one thing or the other that'll leave you unsatisfied..
Stock ICS is bad for gaming.
all JB 4.1 have only secondary mic (the one beside the camera) working.. plus, camera doesn't work properly except in stock/pre-installed camera app.
all JB 4.2 have buggy/broken bluetooth
If you don't play heavy games (even Subway Surfers is HEAVY for this phone ).. then you can stick to official ICS.. just unlock FPS (that "install-recovery.sh" thing) and all Temple Runs will be fine.

I'll have to disagree!
Rittik's CM10 ROM is probably the best choice. It's really fast, no lag, and with RAM Manager Pro and History wiping (long press home button), there is absolutely no problem (provided you disable apps to run at startup with Autostart).
Gaming is as smooth as stock GB, except for the games that are ridiculously heavy.
I hope I helped =)

I disagree with both of you. Our friend needs a stable ROM. So I suggest him to try Gingerbread(2.x.x) custom ROMs like THE STALLION ICS look, CyanogenMod 7.2 and MIUI. Everything works like a charm, no reboots, good RAM managment, a lot of extras(the last two ROMs) and no battery drain.
You can downgrade to Gingerbread by flashing step 2 from an official GB ROM.

i have flashed almost all of the roms available for more than a week each (time required to actually see if there are any hidden bugs)
The roms with the least bugs are Kalo and stallion ics.All the others have important issues (for me) thats the reason i didnt stick with them.In general:All ics roms are heavy and laggy, not for games ofcource. All "jb" roms have very serious issues such as awful memory management and awful incall sound, the phone's most important function, broken bluetooths, broken gps, broken wifi, and a lot of smaller bugs.
All miuis have issues, mainly low memory because of the heavy ui.
Cms are almost ok but not quite there.
I didnt want to return to gingerbread after all these beautiful roms but they are just that, beautiful on the outside ugly on the inside!
we have to focus on gb roms, they are the most complete unfortunately, unless a real dev shows up and work on sources

I didn't expect you would say that. I don't think anyone will agree with you.
Stock ROMs lag a lot, have locked fps, are unrooted, less features...
korekore I think you 've tried the MIUI I'm on with right now.
It's fast, it has a lot of useful features, it has the most free memory I ever encountered and minimum battery drain(all night 1-2% loss).
B U T I have installed only 51 applications like every ROM I used in the past. I mention that because you said that problems start to appear after a big number of installed apps(>100).
I think this ROM siuts me better than anyone other and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I think I gonna stick with it.
Everyone has his own priorities and his own criteria.

I wasn't a MIUI fan but I love this ROM.
I like the feature you can access notification bar from any application even in full screen.

It supports another file. I don't remember the name(something like 99unlock).
Even though I prefer MIUI or CM7 or Kalo's ROM. That's my opinion.

I try many Rom's with 4.3 android and I stil got some lag when you move from dial to contacts or history to contact it stay about 1-2-3 seconds and I hate that.
What Rom are u using and you dont have any problems and lag???
AOSP-CM-TW???
Note 2 have 1.6 Quad Core and for my is not normal to have any lag on any app-game-video-etc...

Android HD Revolution is a pretty good, lightweight ROM.
I have noticed that, while Note 2 may have 4 cores at 1.6Ghz and 2GB of RAM, it has them for a reason - HD display, TouchWiz, Jelly Bean....any android phone will lag.
If you can't stand lag, buy an iPhone 5S or the Nexus 4 (still not 100% lag free)

also keep in mind, when specifically switching between dialer and contacts they are actually two different apps .. so it's reasonable to expect a slight lag as you move between the two

Flash Crossbreeder Zip to Any 4.3 ROM. Cant make a Rom faster than that.
Thanks for the replay
But I want to know what Rom ar using and fi you have any lag.
Try a few and find out - flashing is addictive! However, the 22 Oct 4.3 Omni build is damn fast! They are now onto a 4.4 build (which needs a little work) so the 4.3 won't get much more updating. Try also Slimbean or Sentinel roms.

Try the latest paranoid android 4.3 RC2 with its pa gapps. I don't have any lag. It is very smooth and clean. Stable as rock. All work fine. I have also tweacked my kernel with battery governor and it should keep the phone slower but it doesn't appen.

I really liked the SlimBean ROM. At 240 dpi it was a little small for me, but when switched up to 270 dpi I loved it. I didn't have any problems with lag or FC's. Everything just worked beautifully
Have had to go back to TW Roms though now as I accidentally slipped and bought a Galaxy Gear. At the minute I'm on Ditto Note ROM which is ok, but not as slick as the slim bean rom.
Use WanamLite v.3.9.....minimal lag
also, you get Adams kernel. In STtweaks, use zzmoove governor or lulzactiveq, very very fast, but a bit weaker battery life.
Cyanogenmod
Definitely Cyangenmod without doubt. I'm currently using it, it's blazing Fast. It's super fast that you don't want to use other ROMs unless it has same speed.

Try MIUI ROMs...you will fall in love with this ROM...

Stock: Cyanogenmod 10.2
Touchwiz: Really a personal choice...i found WanamLite v3.9 with Stock kernel to work very fast, with zero lag, and amazing battery life.
Sorry for OT, but how is battery life on CM 10.2 these days? Last when I tried (more than a month back), I had nearly 30-40% less battery life on CM compared to stock. Have things improved with the 4.3 stock leak (maybe by using some of the drivers from 4.3 leak in CM)?
"best, "fastest", "stable" rom and other such stupid threads are not allowed on XDA for various reasons.
The posts above show the exact reason why we do not like best rom threads. Eight different roms suggested, so what does that tell you? It's subjective, everyone has a different idea of what's "best" for them. Please head over to the dev section have a read and flash a few roms and decide for yourself what is best for you.
