hi,
can't seem to find the answer on any thread or maybe my forum searching skill is not adequate enough.
i have a problem.
my blade is gen2. comes with a stock 2.3.5 version of android.
here are the details that i have pulled out from the information status screen; which might be of useful information to correct my problem.
p729b01
2.3.5
[email protected]
Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf+
build number zte-bladev1.0.0b02
tried both swedish snow and cyanogenmod7 but still the problem persists. the blade can't search for any networks manually or automatically.
no problem with the original supplied android system.
i followed the usual steps: install clockwordmod, put image into root of sdcard, wipe cache, wipe system, install image, and system boots successfully. the only problem is the network problem.
what am i doing wrong?
You're phone is a gen3 blade the roms you are flashing are gen2.

Yeah, you can use the MMHP patch for Swedish Snow and the "CM9" (from the KonstaKANG thread on modaco) gen3 patch for any version of CM.
It's as easy as flashing it with CWM and rebooting and your gen3 phone will work just fine.
Do NOT try the various TPT's though, at least not without an sdcard with the original rom in the /image/image.bin because it probably won't work and you'll end up with a messed up screen (depending on which one you use it'll be different but the usual is a blue screen with vertical white stripes across it) just like i did when i tried the various ones.
The only TPT i've found that works is the windows gen3 TPT which also unlocks the phone but unless you're looking to unlock your phone there is really no reason to use it since it's got the same partition setup as original.
As rahulsa said, use Blade checker instead and it'll report it as a gen3.

Here ya go: http://www.mediafire.com/?15klvs6vs2mdcy3
It's a flashable zip file so you flash it via your recovery.
I'll add the other one too: http://www.mediafire.com/?f3yukhcn7woh3de
It says CM9 but it'll work fine on CM7 too.
Both patches are courtesy of KonstaT.

I've searched both Google and this forum, but I can't find a clear answer.
A friend asked me to install CM7 on his Blade which is Gen2, but the problem is I don't want to brick his phone trying to enable TPT for the sole purpose of avoiding permanent bricks, which would be incredibly ironic.
So the question is; can you enable TPT on a phone that has never been a Gen1?
This probably boils down to whether a stock Gen2 is close enough software-wise to an upgraded Gen1.
Thank you for your time.
Huh? CM7 is meant for Gen 2, you can just root, install CWM and flash CM7.

Yeah, I know because I have a Gen2 converted Gen1 myself, but TPT would come in handy if he ever manages to mess it up (bad update, playing with root, other unpredictable stuff).
With my HTC Magic I once managed to damage the system so badly it became close to bricked with both recovery and Android unbootable. The one thing that saved me was fastboot. Since then I always make sure to have a way of spoonfeeding an update in case everything else fails, the harder to break the better (I'd imagine breaking fastboot is hard, but it requires a computer with the Android SDK tools and in his case working drivers).
The question still stands; can you enable TPT on a phone that has never been a Gen1?
Oh I understand now.
IT WILL NOT WORK ON NATIVE GEN2 DEVICE WHICH WERE SHIPPED WITH 2.2. sorry! but it does no harm since the TPT will not start.

I found it now, it's in the thread about the CM7 TPT images, in bold caps right before the first step. *facepalm*
Ah well, at least a Google search for "gen2 enable tpt" will point people with the same question here.
Well, as I understand it, it is possible, but difficult. When you upgrade to gen2 with old Windows flasher method, you get no TPT too (you basically get factory gen2). But it is possible to downgrade back to gen1 and then use TPT to go to gen2. So the same should be possible with factory gen2.

Yeah it's possible, I think you just have to be careful to backup those .nvm files to prevent the loss of your IMEI.
Out of interest since I used the Windows method, why do you want to downgrade to Gen 1 and upgrade again with the TPT?

So I don't remember what build I originally had, didn't backup my ROM bcus im a nub, made a mistake editing a file in system/lib which caused my tablet not to boot past the android screen. Came to this forum for some help, kjy2010 came to my rescue. provided me with a full build of 4.010.40 GEN1, placed update.zip in external SD, booted into recovery mode & let it do its thing. worked like a charm & fixed my issue, but then someone said I should have a US build, can anyone tell me why? if so.. anyone have a copy of 4.010.11 they can provide me with & how I would go about to install it. Is it the same concept as done before? Really the main thing is, will I have issues downloading new updates? if I don't switch to 4.010.11.. or will I have an issue regardless bcus I don't have the original ROM.. & if so.. how am I going to be able to work around it in the future.

Market....get Acery Recovery Installer. After you install it, go into the app and have it install Clockwork recovery mod, miking sure you click yes when it asks you to backup your recover image.
Here is the thread on CWM, although you no longer need to push to install thanks to Acer recovery installer:

Mainly the differences are in the software you get with the tablet and certain underlying factors in the settings, like what channels are allowed in wifi....especially wifi n which allows a greater variety of channels, bands, etc. The world around uses different channels based on government regulations/standards.
I suspect this is why a number of people have issues with connecting to Wifi. They get ROMS from XDA, update their U.S tablets with foreign ROMS and vice versa and then have wifi issues.
You technically don't HAVE to be on a U.S version if you're in the U.S, but for the reasons above, I wouldn't ever recommend using a foreign ROM.

I'm in US, same build as you are, no wifi issues, the GPS.conf is set to north America, and IMHO it's more stable and fluid than the current US build. Just my opinion, and. 02c
No one seems to show GEN2 any love. Its all GEN1 and CUS7. For those that want GEN2 (I live in US), well here you are. A full image for Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2. This is not edited in any way. (This means not rooted). This is probably not going to be useful to the average person. For a modified (but rooted) ROM of this, look here
This is not OTA and can be used without ClockWorkMod (CWM) or any modifications of any kind.
Unzip Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2.zip and place update.zip on the root of your SD card.
I should also mention this is Honeycomb 3.2 for those that don't keep track of the build numbers (and who can blame you?), and this DOES have a locked bootloader. But, nevertheless, and valid source for flashing and other things!

Yea I wouldn't worry 2 much about GEN2. If you have a choice, get GEN2. Otherwise it doesnt matter. The differences are mostly system files related to keyboards and databases and such from what I have dissected.
Like spelling color as colour and other oddities.
That and different bloatware, not all the same as the US

Vache has a downgrade image to Acer_A501_1.309.02_COM_GEN1 that will work with the new locked bootloader. Root that image then install CWM THEN install a custom rom. That will prevent the boot verification issue!

Do you mean to follow this way below? But i'm afraid this way don't work with Defy+?
Common Problems/Questions
Black Screens when booting up: (!) Tried to install a version of Android with a lower CG Version than the one currently on the phone.
Weird behavior after installing a Fixed SBF: Install a matching Nandroid backup with your SBF, and remember to clear Cache/Dalvik Cache using Recovery.
Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom: (!) aha! We have a issue here!, latest Stock Gingerbread full SBFs comes with a Version 5 of the CG, meaning until not long ago you were pretty much screwed. But wait, there is hope! A one kind Éclair has been found in China Defys that comes with Version 5 CG!.
How to fix it:
Download this SBF and Flash it
Root your Phone
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Download and install this Nandroid Backup
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
After wiping, turn off your phone
Turn it on and get immediately into Bootloader mode
Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot.
You WONT be able to install full SBFs of any Éclair or Froyo since these Androids have lower CG Versions.
**NOTE*: I just rephrased the original post since it can be a bit confusing, it is linked as source below.
**NOTE2**: If you are using a non-Chinese defy, DO NOT USE THE CAMERA FLASH while on the Chinese rom, it WILL kill your LED.
Source: ((Original post here))
How to Install CM7 after Installing a Full Gingerbread SBF: (!) Ok, first of all do all the steps above on "Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom"
Root your Defy (Using SuperOneClick 1.7 and not 1.9).
Install SystemRecovery from GoAPK. If you install 2nd init, you'll just get into a boot loop and have to start over.
Reboot to recovery. Do a factory wipe, then do the cache wipe.
Install CM7 .Zip and then gapps zip file. DO NOT wipe again, you'll just go back to 2.2.2 CEE (if you accidentally do this, you can pick up again from step 3).
profit!

Yes it works with Defy+ if you are on a bld6 rom (not for the bld7 roms)
My patch from a couple posts back makes a copy of the patched file on your sdcard in the folder defy_simlock_originals. Could you post them here?
Don't know if the module works with the gingerbread kernel. That's why it is a good idea to try to get CM7 with froyo kernel. It's also handy if you wan't to install other roms (WIUI ...)
But could you fist give those files? Maybe i've made a mistake again ^^.

My patch from a couple posts back makes a copy of the patched file on your sdcard in the folder defy_simlock_originals.Could you post them here?

Again, thank you for your help and time
(I have put .txt for upload)
The file is similar to the normal defy one as far as I can tell that must have done it... So prob. faullt of different kernel. You could try to downgrade and use CM7 on froyo kernel.

I have change the kernel with THIS METHOD
after, try with WIUI 2.2.17: no network; then with update-cm-7.1.0-11-Defy-signed: no network, even when changing baseband.
So, if all that i have made is right, maybe it's not fault of kernel.
Other difference between MB526 and MB525?
You get 'no network' all the time, even with the sim from the right provider, also without the patch?
I think you're the fist to try on a defy+. Maybe look to the Russian fora...
edit: And can you tell me what your Baseband version is? (in settings > about)
edit2: If it is EPU93_U_00.59.01 Try it after installing RC1.5 from here: http://www.defy-cm.net/jordan-cm7.1-RC/

no network only with wrong provider: with the patch no code ask, but no network even with other baseband.
Yes it is EPU93_U_00.59.01 (cm7.2 working on defy+ as well)
with RC1.5 no boot after files install, stuck on google logo.
Now i have flash fix sbf to use 2.3.6 rom because of no battery problems and better battery life. So i'll wait and ask again to my operator.
Now baseband is EPU_U_00.60.03
Do you think if i'm able to put a official operator rom it will see that is no desimlocked? i don't have made backup of my official rom (newbie mistake ) so i have ask here if it's possible with this method.
Blocking by TI OMAP 3630
I have read this:
Blocking the Bootloader by TI OMAP 3630
Why and how is it locked Defy?
While Linux is Open Source Motorola keeps the Defy the locked bootloader. Why?
For commercial reasons of course: avoid too many warranty returns from sorcerer's apprentices who brické their phone, for example (although care is denied you still have to manage the folders!) But also the traders (who manage some of the guaranteed returns, but not that ... we shall see below).
So Motorola maintains bootoader of our favorite phone is not locked and ready to unlock the last views of Roma making the switch to SBF rootage and even more difficult. But the fact how this lock is it made?
Unlike other phones (other brands, but also other brand models *) easy to unlock, the Defy is equipped with a TI OMAP 3630 chip that manages its technology via "M-Shield technology 'in this block. So we did not do a software problem but rather a problem if one CPU is addressing this release.
This technology also manages the simlockage phone which also explains why the operators are far from favorable to the release of Defy.
No one arrived today to crack this lock: it should have the tool from Texas Instruments where he provided to authorized repairers to put the Motorola Defy mode "SE" (Systems Engineering) for this.
* These phones using Qualcomm chips or other, do not bénéfiecient techonologie the M-Shield and are much easier to unlock.

Wrong thread i think.
Have you try a wipe cache and data in stock recovery before rsdlite? see here how to do with Froyo
Hi.
My friend "bricked" his ZTE Blade.
We want to try unbrick it, but we must find what version of Blade it really is (I (gen1/gen2, II...).
We can't get also in recovery/FTM/fastboot
Is there any way to do it? (we can't run the pigfish apk....)
Thanks
Ask him what version of android he had on it,
generally speaking if it came with android 2.1 it'll be gen1 and if it came with 2.2 it'll be gen2, there have been reports of users having 2.2 gen1 but 99% of the time you can rely on this. that's why blade checker and ask mr pigfish have to check details in the kernel to establish if it is gen1 or gen2 but considering it is bricked this is what you'll have to go on
OK, thanks, I will ask.
I think that he flashed bad gen version of CM7.
I hope that we can solve it with TPT (phone still boot into green android) but I'm afraid that with flashing bad TPT we can totally brick it...
BTW ZTE Blade gen2 is different from Blade II right?

If he flashed anything above CM7.0.0 and it doesn't boot, he'll have a gen1, I think CM7.0.0 is the only gen1 official CM.
Have you tried booting into recovery? Power on with volume down if I remember correctly. If not try volume up.
Yeah ZTE blade gen2 is different from the Blade 2

OK.
Yes, he tried to boot it with vol+/- or also with home button, but nothing.
Also I must ask, if it wasn't CM7.2, thats for gen2 right?
I didn't have the phone in my hand yet. Maybe next week...

CM7.2 is gen2 only, was that the one he flashed?
If so he will have a gen1 phone as if it isn't booting then it must be that.

New info
He tried to flash CM7 via original recovery manager.
Also he said, that in Czech Republic isn't gen1, so it should be gen2...

Via rom manager? Okay so if you're sure it's gen2 try flashing a gen2 compatible TPT or if you can get into fastboot make sure to flash a gen2 compatible recovery

Yeap, we will try it, thanks for help!
