Hey guys!
I just recently lost my Galaxy S 3, and honestly I was thinking I will buy the phone again, but since I'm going to use my money to invest a brand new phone. Is there any other phone out there which is better than the S 3 today? I'm not interested in HTC One X.
I would wait for the Note 2 that will be unveiled later this month.

Yeah, but Note 2 is taking to long time. I really need a new phone, you know...
If you need a phone right now and can't wait to see what apple has to offer in September or October then SG3 is the best choice.

No Apple product. Only Android phone, but thanks... Maybe I should consider and buy a new Galaxy S 3 after all?
Huawei Ascend D Quad and Ascend D Quad XL are definite contenders, but apparently not out worldwide until October.

I don't know if this is true for all G2Xes/Optimus 2Xes, but Canadian ones won't be receiving an update to ICS. Personally, I'd stay away from LG.

Sony is releasing a few that look pretty good. Windows 8 phones are coming too. I would personally either get the GS3, wait for the windows 8 version of the GS3, or the new Nokia flagship provided it is thinner than the fat lumias.
Yeah, probably GS3.

SGS3 NO QUESTION
or maybe even GNex at a cheap price?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you cant wait definately the SGS III. There is no other device that is so well rounded atm. Nice screen, best ergonomic design in the android line (after 2 years with a DHD its a blessing to be able to power up the phone with the physical homebutton and shut it off on the side, no way to power on a OneX with only one hand of my size...), good battery life, exactly as much storage as you need: 16-128gb, nice UI and huge XDA support.
There were two other devices i was thinking about: The Huawei Ascend D quad and the Galaxy Nexus. But the huawei had cpu problems and was delayed - not a good sign imho. And what looked like a stock google experience first with fast updates, was killed by another bad looking sluggish UI, so we have no idea how fast they will bring out updates etc.
The Galaxy Nexus is only nice because it already has JB and is cheaper, but that will eventually come to the SGSIII as well. The small storage and the lower mpx camera were the turnoff here.
And you know how it is with Smartphones there is always the next big thing right around the corner... So after having the SGSIII for a few days i really feel like i have made the right choice! Its such a big step if you're coming from an older phone like the DesireHD. Everything is soo fu***** fast!!!
Alright, thanks for the advice, but from every places I have read, and heard personal from Huawei owner wasn't satisfied with the product. Either the phone died to quickly, or the battery just started to decrease, or yet... it just stop, or freeze, so they have to reboot all the time.
I used to own my GSIII, and the phone was nice. I wasn't unhappy with the product, except I didn't like the home button. It was small and narrow, and not so flexible like the GS II.
Personally, it would be more higher chance for me to buy the GS III again, but since the GS III just arrived out to the market for few months now, and I was thinking perhaps there might be a better phone which could stand against the GS III. Personally, I would love the phone have a good sound chip. The GS II suck so hard vs the GS I and III for the sound.
The only two complaints, although major, I had with the Xperia S was that it was using the Qualcomm S3 and the screen had a yellow tint problem. I didn't mind GB so much and the Qualcomm S3 was actually surprisingly smooth. The tablet S with a crappy tegra 2 runs incrediblly smooth with the ICS update too.
So I would think the Xperia GX and Mint will be the closest S3 competitors on the horizon. They earned some points with me. I am sure Nokia will show the windows phone 8 flagship soon as well.

Thats probably why Huawei delayed the phones. It should bother you if they released the phones in that state, not that they held off on releasing them to fix the problems.

The Note is going to be like the dell streak. I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct. They phone/tablet had horrible sales. This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max . I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain.
Galaxy nexus is my next phone the moment it drops on the sprint network

"I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct."
-your reasoning for this is incorrect. The streak was marketed extremely badly,
shipped with an very old version of android, and had performance issues.
"They phone/tablet had horrible sales."
-Yes as stated above for different reasons which are not an issue with Samsung Note and as stated they have sold a million Samsung Notes already.
"This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max."
-a pattern of you being wrong again and again...
The Samsung Note is 5.3 which is even bigger then the Dell Streak.
"I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain."
-another assumption? It is not a problem to have this phone even in the skinny pants that I wear all the time and I am extremely physically active.
"Galaxy nexus is my next phone the moment it drops on the sprint network"
-another bad choice, most of the world uses GSM and for good reason. If your are going to go with CDMA at least go with Verizon who has acceptable coverage only in the US. AT&T with an unlocked phone is the best choice especially if you are worldly and like to travel.

Galaxy Note is way better than Galaxy Nexus because of the Mali chipset, Nexus chipset is a real deal breaker, in my country Note is already selling like hotcakes where as nexus is loosing its market value.

When i bought my Note, I thought I would use it primarily as a small tablet, and that I would continue to use my HTC Sensation as my regular phone.
I learned very quickly that the size of the Note wasn't an issue, and that when I used my Sensation I just found it felt small and cramped. So, I swapped my primary SIM into the Note, and now use it as a daily driver.
Consequently, I fundamentally disagree with your assertion that the Note is too big, because it really isn't noticable either in the hand, or in the pocket.
Regards,
Dave

I am a Samsung galaxy note owner after having the S2 & the HTC desire HD.
I cannot imagine ever going back to my former devices after using the Note!
It is by far the best phone I have ever had and to be quite honest I thought that the size would be a problem which later on, as I discovered, was not.
It fits in the same pockets as my S2 without any problem...
No comparison can be made hardware wise and surely if someone gets to use it, he won't compare it to any other device in circulation...

I just recently bought a Skyrocket and being that it is SII based, it is a very nice phone. I am still being pulled into the Note though even with the SIII on the horizon. I am looking to hear from the guys who have a Galaxy Note what they think about it and after owning it for a while if they would keep it or trade for something smaller.
Just some FYI, I have been on android since the Aris, I have also owned the, Galaxy S, Thunderbolt, G2x, Moto Droid 2, Sensation, and xoom, all of which have been rooted and ROMed. I consider myself well educated and experienced in android phones.

i know the feeling that he has!
After watching that video I feel very much the same.
Not quite with a smartphone but I remember going from my 17" 1280x1024 LCD to a 24" 1920x1200 and it was WOW. After using the 24" and then looking at the 17" I just couldn't look at the smaller screen.
Even though I have not owned a smartphone other than the Note I can not see myself going to a smaller phone.
So my next phone will be another Note hopefully.
I really like it. But it really depends on the person.
So my recommendation is go to a store where they sell them and look at a demo or something.

I still have an SGS II and the wife loves hers. She doesn't want a Note. I love using the Note and I am still amazed at people's surprise when seeing the phone. They don't know what it is. Most people then want one.
I will be buying an International S3 when they start appearing used to see of the mid size screen between the s2 and note will be a good trade off, If so the SGS2 will go on Ebay and the Note will then be relegated to the back up position. If not the S3 will go back on Ebay and I keep the S2 until the Note II.
I don;t find the size prohibitive at all. I am used to using two hands on it and use it like a Notepad. Carrying it in my pockets is easy ( I would not want to put a case on it though).

Totally agreed, i has tried my frend.sg3. It really different level in terms of smoothness and speed if compare to our note.
But it is not fair to put the comparison in between note and sg3, since sg3 is quadcore handset.

I really am looking forward to note 2 but due to Samsung's lack in the ICS update on time I probably will switch brands. I mean I will still keep my note and use it for my media like movies TV shows and books (continue using it as a mini tablet) but when its time for an upgrade I probably will just get another phone just not from samsung, unless of course the NOTE 2 has a incredible feature that makes be forget about this entire ICS 'update disaster' from Samsung.

I'll be damn tempted by the GS3 once it has a strong dev community AOSP backing. I like what's going on in terms of AOSP for the Note (especially CM9), but if I can't use my pen, I may as well have a smaller phone (I'm not getting the Nexus because it doesn't have a card slot).

Hi, I want to buy a new phone and I'm choosing between the Galaxy Nexus and S III. Which one do you recommend? I like how the Nexus looks, and getting updates first. I like the specs in the S III but I'm not a big fan of how it looks and I definitely don't like the TouchWiz UI. Where I live there is not much difference in price. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
The current Nexus phone has been out for a while now. It was initially released in 11/17/2011 and made its way to the US in 12/15/2011, it is about 7-8 months old already. The S3 on the other hand is much more recent.
With that said, I, too, find Nexus more attractive because it's not filled with bloatware and is pure Google and gets updates quickly. If you can wait, I'd recommend to hold off until the next Nexus phone is released.
In terms of price, you can get a nexus for 1 cent on Amazon wireless, 149.99 for a gs3.
In terms of feature set and specs, its all preference. I love the big screen on the s3 and its classy look versus the dull galaxy nexus grey.
If price is no object get the s3 hands down, just be patient on ROMs.

I agree with the above post, but not completely. What carrier are you on? If its Verizon, with the locked bootloader debacle of the galaxy s3, they may not get the new nexus. Additionally, the Verizon nexus didn't get the updates as fast as the GSM versions. On the other hand, if you are on a GSM carrier and are completly happy with your coverage, i would maybe wait for the nexus.
I do love my Galaxy s3, but i will always be envious of the nexus.
depends on upgrade
if you have the $199 upgrade option to galaxy s iii, then take that. if you're paying straight cash, i'd get the nexus probably second hand from ebay or swappa.
Stay away from the nexus, is great as a multimedia device and to mess around with ROMs but is horrible as a phone.
I would get the s3, cm9 is stable enough for daily driver and cm10 will be stable soon, I like the GSM galaxy nexus but internal storage kills it, and the camera is not good enough sometimes , s3 you can switch over cm9 if you dislike touchwiz so much

Get the S3 if you don't mind signing a contract. The hardware specs such as the S4 processor, GPU and 2GB of RAM are better than what the Nexus is offering. However, if you want Jelly Bean now, then get the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus with no contract.
At this point I would say, if you can wait a few more months, just hold out for the next Nexus. (If you really want a nexus device)
I had nexus and now have sg3 the nexus is not good and not loud
Im on my SG3
The gs3 hands down...the device flat out runs sweet even on stock touchwiz. I can definately hold off until cm10 is fully functional!

I see people saying wait for the next Nexus. Is there some kind of overall consensus on when it will come out (by the forum-goers)? Because when I think about it, I can definitely see a situation where the next one comes out maybe even mid-next year or later...
I have also had this question in my mind (S3 vs. Nexus). I'll probably go for the better hardware and use diff ROMs if necessary (I really like Jelly Bean and I fear how long it may take S3 to get that...)

Thats a lame comment. Yes The Nexus is Older, but in the end, it does not mater if you have a 18Mp camera and you are stock on Gingerbread and waiting for samsung or your carrier to push you bloatware and updates once a year..

Thats a lame comment. Yes The Nexus is Older, but in the end, it does not mater if you have a 18Mp camera and you are stock on Gingerbread and waiting for samsung or your carrier to push you bloatware and updates once a year..

Lol. I don't necessarily feel the S3 is THAT much better than the Nexus, but I love how everyone says S3 and this guy orders the Nexus anyway.
1. Ask whether to buy device A or device B in device A's forum.
2. Have no idea what cognitive biases are and predictably receive advice to buy device A.
3. Buys device B anyway.

Excellent. :good:
I have a very one time heavy decision. My very rare chance for getting a phone. I'm currently have a galaxy s2 ig100g. Is it worth upgrade to note 3? Or I should wait for newer model? Any recommendation.

From the S2 the upgrade will be something similar to when you bought your first smartphone. The massive increase in power and functionality will definitely be a night and day difference for you.
In my opinion, if you are able to afford to get the Note 3 go for it. There will always be something better coming out next year and if you keep waiting you'll end up never getting anything. The Note 3 however hit a really sweet spot with getting quite a lot right, so it's a great choice for purchasing.

if u can handle the device's size i can assure you it's the best phone ever
From a s2 .. it is a quantic leap ! Don't think twice!
Strangely, actually did upgrade from an S2 to a Note 3. Massive improvement in both screen quality and processor power. Definitely recommend it if you can afford it.
I hope that once I bought it no news about galaxy s5 pop up suddenly..

S4 and Note 2 are on the same tier IMO
I think that the S5 will be equally desirable as the note 3 when it comes out in april-ish.
The screen size, battery life, and stylus make the note 2 as good as this gen phones.
Note 3 is a whole generation ahead IMO
I came from S2 to note 3, never looked back. s pen is good once you get use to it.

i upgraded from GS2 to GN3, its an amazing device and it would be worthy upgrade. if you have to wait for new device then you have to wait for ever. upgrade and enjoy.
Same here. My previous phone was S2. I decided to upgrade to Note 3 mainly because I want to feel how the s-pen works and will I be able to maximize my daily usage with the phone's features. Definitely a 100% go for me if you want to upgrade from S2. I am enjoying immensely the Note 3's features, s-pen, bigger screen. It's like a totally new phone to me!! Go for it! :good:
Thanks all people to reply this. I have made decision that I'll be buying it. Getting it on Friday : D
