Almost every custom rom I flashed I will encounter "process com.android.phone stopped unexpectedly.Try again" when phone booted up. How can that happen? I already followed the instructions given before flashing a custom. I even flashed to latest version stock rom before flash to another custom rom.

Try fresh flashing latest stock using odin. Might work.

Flash Fresh Stock Rom Using Odin before flashing custom ROMs
Yes. I often encounter this kind of FC, and I was so dumb to think it was a hardware issue because even when I tried to restore my nandroid backup before having this FC still it appears. Not even Fix Permission can help.
I can't really say how I solved this but here's what I've done.
I made a backup of my sd card to my computer.
Format SD.
Partition SD.
Put back IMPORTANT FILES ONLY.
Done!
I think the problem is in the sd-ext.
QUESTION: Do you have a2sd script ?

Could it be your network provider problem?

When restoring to 2.1 my downloads worked, but not when using custom ROM perhaps ROM is faulty? Ill try another ROM and see how it goes
Im still having no luck with the downloads tried several ROMS any suggestions please?
I recently found the phone numbers in contacts being displayed like 123-456-789. Previously it was being displayed without "-". I tried to change the locale & regional settings but it didn't work ! Why is it so ? Now After I factory resetted the phone & selected locale & English (US), though this problem got sorted out. I am facing two new problems. My Android market does not update itself !!!!!!!!! & the progress of the ongoing downloads does not show/appears blank. I am very worried. plzz tell me what to do !! i am using stock 2.1 V20c (India) ROM in my rooted gt540. Previously I never had any issues with my phone. Plzz help it's urgent. I have tried to master reset my phn 5 times hoping the problem wud get solved but it didn't.
New problem- new downloads take a lot of time to start after they have been queued for download
well... I`am not sure if this will help....but i had some issues with market not updating itsef and displaying wrong letters in system...so i formated my system, boot, data and cache partition through clockworkmod recovery and then restored from backup, after that everything worked fine...now, I assume you don`t have a backup, or clockworkmod recovery....or do you??
No.. I dnt hav a backup. Recently when I rooted my phone I deleted everything in the system cache folder and also removed some built in apps like SNS,layar, task killer, vid editor and wapedia thinking this wud free up internal memory. I think that is where the prob originated. Now tell me wat to do...

Try to flash ur phone with M6 or something like that...
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
I would reinstall the operating system (and i suggest you to do that)....first install rom manager from market.. if you can..then while still conected to internet install clockworkmod recovery (you`ll see an optyion in rom manager) when you do that..try to boot into recovery by presing power button (first shutdown your phone.....) and home button, when it turns on(holding) if you get something new...a menu, that`s recovery... now go and make a backup of you existing system....that way even if you make some bad choices you can always get your system back.........from this point you can put any ROM you like.... just download wanted ROM put it on the root(outside of any folder) of your sdcard ond go into recovery and choose instal from .zip.........I don`t have the time to search the stock 2.1 ROM v20c for you to install...you could try google
EDIT: here you can find all ROM-s, even a backup of 2.1
@ssik -- thanku so much 4 d detailed info..buddy.. as far as the complete list of original stock ROM's link goes... I already hav the link.. so u didn't hav to search it 4 me...anyways since u hav already done..thanx a lot..i owe u a lot 4 dat. so dont get disgusted..since I am new to this modding thing I feel frightened to hav my phn bricked while flashing...so I was asking 4 any othr alternative.
How to select my device in rom manager ? Since gt540 is not present in device list ? Does my phn's firmware needs to be fastboot enabled so that I can install clockwork ?

you welcome @sujitmohanty .....while in a rom manager (conected to internet aswel) just press flash clockworkmod recovery, wait till its finished and then try to boot into recovery mod as described, if that doesn`t work then we`ll do something else.... let me know if it works... and ask for any help you need... I was also as frightened as you in my beginnings )

I think there is but it is untested and only just my theory.
Also, it doesn't matter what fastboot rom you flash, they all work the same, regardless of country etc

But after using alpharevx to s-off and nej's method, i've successfully rooted my phone..
Now what do i do nxt?
How to flash a rom?
IF possible someone give me a step by step guide pls thanks
You need to install clockword mod recovery first.
Then create a gold card.
You can then copy new ROM files to your SD card and then boot into recovery to install them.
This is very primitive, but let me know if u encounter any problems.
Google is your friend

Yeah I downloaded the latest one... from cyanogenmod website. What to do next?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Put that file in memory card.
Then reboot to recovery.
Then select option to do factory reset / wipe data / wipe cache / wipe dalvik cache.
Then select install zip from sdcard. Then select choose zip from sdcard. Then select ur file downloaded. That's all. Takes about 5min to install and 5min to 1st boot.
And in recovery mode, the trackpad should be used for selecting option. And power button for go back option. If u r stuck with an android picture then press power button.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Can you get to the recovery?
Flash it
And regarding cm7 also download google apps and flash in the same way.
And that's all for cm7 AFAIK. u don't need any extra kernels if u r a simple user. OC KERNEL is also inbuilt. Check cyanogenmod settings under settings.

Nandroid backup should be done before installing a custom rom. It is must if u ask me bcoz it clears many issues.
And titanium backup is for advanced users to be used after flashing a custom rom. Yes kernel might change depending on its presence in the custom rom. But don't worry. Custom kernels will be better than stock kernel.
Edit: Titanium backup can also be used before installing custom rom to backup contents. These contents can be restored after installing custom rom.

You can do a nandroid backup in the recovery.
Backup/Restore option if my memory is correct.
Then just click backup and wait a bit
Nandroid backup can be done from the custom recovery. Explore it and u will find it under nandroid. Takes 5 min to backup. A size if around 250MB on sdcard will be used.
And Google apps is a zip file around 10mb which can be flashed in the same way from the custom recovery as a custom rom flashing process.

You need a nandroid backup BEFORE flashing a rom, because that's like a system recovery image. If something goes wrong, you can still go back.

it seems u r on stock rom. so u cant install any system app(like contacts, diallertab, settings etc.) from another rom's through titanium or another apps(like system app installer). if u try it then ur phone will give this errors. to fix this problem, flash ur region's stock rom through odin n dont try to install system apps again. if u want install another system apps to ur phone, u should use a custom rom or deodexed stock rom.
Galaxy Pop Plus'ımdan Tapatalk 2 ile gönderildi.
The only way you can fix this is to reflash stock rom appropriate to your country. Its in dokys thread which is a sticky so you can easily find it.
The reason it didn't work is your phone did not return the .odex when restoring. stock rom is odexed which needs a .odex file. Example is Browser.apk
Browser.odex
.odex is like dalvik cache that is needed to run the apk.

It happens to me too... I usually cancel download and again try... If it doesn't work the third time ... Then i press download and restart my mobile... On completion of boot it usually starts downloading......
One more possibility is when play store is updating in background..(rare but still it does happen)
Solution
If you are facing network error while downloading an application, just switch to airplane mode and again get back to the same mode.
Also as you are using a custom ROM, there might be some issues with it. You can reflash gapps(google apps) and try to download again. If you still can't get access, flash stock ROM via Odin.
