Unlocking Bootloader. - Wildfire General

Hi guys. I have visited htcdev.com to try to get my HTC wildfire unlocked. However, I am unsure of which carrier to choose from. I am from Singapore. Which carrier should I choose? Please advice.

Interesting. The reason why nobody answered might be that there are at least two complete guides/tuts here in the forum how to upgrade your hboot, s-off and root the Wildfire
I guess if you plan to do it at the website you linked to this forum might not help (maybe I'm wrong).
If you want to do it with the help of this forum these threads might be a good start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365159
To be honest I can't say what's the better tutorial at the moment. Most essential: you'll need your hboot version to know which further steps to do

Hi thanks for those awesome links you have given But just asking, the threads were posted for HTC wildfire buzz. Can I still use it fir my HTC wildfire s (marvel) ?

um - if you scroll up to the top there's a line that reads "> HTC Buzz: Wildfire > Wildfire General >" so it has been a good idea to ask... No, you can't use this for Wildfire S as those guides are pretty much device specific.
You're definitely in the wrong forum (the Marvel is a completely different device besides the name). To find help for your phone have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1035

If I find the time I'll have a look. But I would suggest to ask your question in the Wildfire S "General" or "Q&A" section as rooting/unlocking questions are really device dependant (not only for the needed software but even more for the method) and I have no clue regarding the Marvel
Furthermore you may want to have a look at all threads in these sections starting with "[GUIDE]".

They don't seem to be answering my questions at all ):

sad
I've had a quick look at the forums over there. Can't say where to start exactly. There's at least an index thread that lists a lot of stuff (guides, tuts, downloads etc.) - probably a good point to start gathering information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325730
Furthermore - found by accident - there was a guy who explicitely offered help with all questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803951
For the moment you should go with this - I'm a bit short on time to dig deeper into a phone I don't know
Hope it helps - good luck!

what is odin?

I am coming from an evo 4g and would like to know what odin is/used for. on the evo I only ever had to use adb. is it necessary to have or is it more like htc sync. ie only needed in certain circumstances. thanks in advance for the input

dude why must you say that to everyone youre really not helping ive seen you in about 3 threads already saying the same thing post something a little help and then suggest that they move it i left the 32b section and was hoping that this section would be a little better and more helpful cause for right now the community for our phone is small and we need whoever is here to be helpful

He's exactly right... because this subforum is just starting up, everything needs to be in its appropriate section. It will make everthing easier when this starts to pick up and you need to go back and find something. No one who wants to flash a custom rom wants to read questions about apps. So no hatin involved, lets just put stuff in the appropriate spots

yes i understand that but to the op you really didnt help at all thats what i mean im not saying your wrong at all im just saying help the guy even though he posted in the wrong spot and then ask him to move it cause hes in the wrong section thats all
honestly i was going under the assumtion that odin was some program you had to use to flash roms or something along those lines. How would i go about transfering it to the general section?
none of you are helping at all. if you don't have anything helpful at all to contribute then don't say anything at all. saying stuff like this doesn't belong here isn't helpful at all and all it does is clutter the thread. if it needs to be moved then let a mod decide on that.
as for answering the op's question...
Odin is the program you use to flash phones.
'Odin Multi Downloader v3.95.exe' is used to flash the Samsung Galaxy. It's usually included in firmware packs.
Gunman is trying to help... Ppl need to read the rules and follow them before posting... A simple google search would have answered his question.. I already posted a "read before posting" thread.. Its all the way at the bottom bc ppl are posting incorrectly and in the wrong place

Someone should make a FAQ stickey so hopefully people will see that instead of making threads, just a thought.

when you say firm ware like when you flash new kernals/roms or updating hardware like the radio and such? or do you mean the version of android itself? also do you have to use odin or can you just get a .zip of the firm ware/rom then flash it in recovery mode?
Id say 99.999% of the time no one mods the hardware, the roms are essentially like OS's, and firmware is like a bios, it translates what the rom wants us to do into how the hardware is going to do it.
Yes I realize this is not a perfect analogy, and no offense to the OP, this is just a basic rundown for anyone starting out.
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy

Odin is a tool used for downloading new rom's or software to the phone. you need to put the phone into download mode to get odin to recognize it. Be very careful as to how you use this software, it can brick your phone if you mess up and don't do it right.

totally forgot. Read those too! Those are great threads to read before posting up any questions, if you run into any trouble, etc.
One more thing...read and read and read and read. You have an expensive phone...all the info you need is here...but do yourself a favor and read for a few days so you understand what you are doing. That will limit your questions and headaches…
There are very helpful people in theses forums and they are more likely to help you after you have you have tried to help your self.

Welcome
Like all ....welcome the above posts have provided links, remember a couple of things, Go slow at first before changing up the phone... get used to the phone. Look at the apps here and on the android market
Look at the development section in the Vibrant forum and read alot of the posting and links about the custom ROMs. The people who made them are superior to the service provider developers.
Once you are comfortable with your background/reference education then, start modifying the phone. You are going to find this is SUCH a good phone to customize, and way user friendly than others I have used in the past. Good luck, and welcome
Welcome +1!
We're here to help as long as the question hasn't been posted 15x10^n times =) Reading is integral to learning more about your phone. Peek into the dev forum but don't post any questions in there unless directly related to a ROM you've flashed (and even then search the thread for your answer [there's a search thread button at the top of the page]).
There are many good people on the forum even when the get short tempered due to "failure to read" syndrome.
Congratulations on a wise purchase, your phone is only going to get better (we've got some great devs ).

XDA Samsung Galaxy Tab Wiki

I have been picking through the dev, general and Q&A threads for what I thought might be useful information and threw it together to make XDA's "Samsung Galaxy Tab Wiki."
The intent is to collect knowledge such as where to find modems or how to root/unroot into a single reference. Sort of the mother of all stickies - but with an index. This should help cut down the clutter in the forums and make it easier to get to ALL the frequently referenced threads for noobs and veterans alike.
Please feel free to add (rooting guide or links to stock firmware and modems for specific devices) and correct (list of variants) as needed.

Kind Regards,
Kevin
Ahh it may work but then we need people to actually read these things..... But we'll done.

Now if you can do on for the P1010 should take you 1 minute to complete >:¬}
P1010 will be the same wiki. Take a look at the wiki's for the HTC Magic or HTC Vision to see what needs to be done to keep thing straight where there are differences. Most of the guides share common steps, just need to break the steps out as needed.
Again, please feel free to add and edit.

Let me answer your question this way...yes, there are many different ROMs for this phone, but you're the one who's going to have to find out.
XDA is a developer's site and, as such, most people here are focused on developing new ROMs. They have allowed us, as guests, to participate in using their ROMs for our phones. However, the expectation is that, like guests in their house, we follow their rules, and rule number one is that we do a LOT of searching on our own before we ask questions. Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820647 and you'll see rule one is "Search Before Posting".
I haven't been on the site long, but I found I have learned so much about ROM development just from reading the information in this site. I encourage you to do the same. Go check out the development forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820647) and see the work that's going on. The most recent ROM development shows up first in the forum so it's easy to determine which ROMs are being worked on. Go into the threads and read the discussions there, as many testers/developers have written back and forth on the issues for that ROM.
The beauty of this site is that there's so many different ROMs to try out, and with the right tools (CWM or 4EXT) you can try different ones to see which one you like the best.
Most developers here will offer a hand if you ask questions that are relevant to ROM development, but unfortunately, asking a question like "is there any new ROMs out there" is just going to invite flame responses because it will be seen as "not bothering to read the threads out there" or disrespecting the developers' work. So, I encourage you to do some research on the site and learn as much as you can and thoroughly check out the forums.
But just a word of advice: you're the one who's going to have to put most of the effort in to finding out what's out there.
Look in the development section and download away. I think the best and most fully functional for this phone right now is the glacier-one

i must add my 5 cents to this i for one have asked this question before ... i think what you might be asking would be what one is the newest project ... at one time i asked that because i had tryed alot of roms and found out 1 by 1 that there was a problem like something was not working and asked a question only to find out the rom was no longer being worked on and there was no fix .. i my self am looking to for a new rom for this phone something thats being worked on so i can help with testing and updates if any one knows a link would be nice
I thought I was the only one pushing this devise still.

Developer Trick on HTC ONE

Hi all,
I really don't know if someone know this "trick" and what it does but it's probably a shortcut to set a locked HTC ONE in "developer" state:
Steps:
- settings
- informations
- software informations
- other(base band, kernel version, etc)
and the trick is to DOUBLE CLICK on BUILD NUMBER
after three notifications you'll become a developer.
I've done it with USB plugged on a PC.
My HTC ONE is brand locked with 4.2.2. In Build Number 2.24.771.3 CL211355 release-keys
Someone know this?
But its still a locked, S-ON Device.

This is nothing new. And this option only gives you some graphic possibilites, nothing more worth mentioning. It's got nothing to do with unlocked bootlader, S-off or anything like that.
P.S.: Also this doesn't belong to this section, it's just a hidden function, nothing to do with development:good:.
ok thanks for the reply.

An advice for you for the future:
Please search first on xda/google if opening a new thread is really worth it.
Also your thread isn't in the correct section.
Creating threads in the developer forums are really just for people that really offer developments (more or less...*cough*).
You thread belongs more in the general section.
Really, just a nice advice. You are lucky that you didn't get comments yet like:
"You *peep* *peep*, this is the development forum!!!!" or "OMG, are you serious??!?!"
Cheers, Jan.
This is the same on any android device running 4.2 or higher - Google have chosen to hide the standard "developer settings", this is where things like the USB debugging toggle has always lived (well in androids recent history anyway).
It doesn't give you any special powers of development....
