KF Charging Issues? Try Nexus 7 Charger - Kindle Fire General

Charging issues? Try a charger from a Nexus 7.
I have a new Nexus 7, and I was happy to find that the Nexus 7 charger is able to keep my ICS Kindle Fire fully powered at 100% battery, even when screen is left on for 24+ hours at 100% brightness.
Why not just use the stock KF charger like every kernel-related thread reminds us to do? In my case, I have the KF wall mounted to control Sonos music, and the stock charger cable is not long enough to make it to the outlet (see pic below).

For anyone with charging issues with stock charger or who wants to be able to use a longer cable run, give this a try.
PS I did a search for all threads in general with "charge" or "charger" in the title, and did not see this covered.

Awesome! Wish I had a Nexus 7. I would trash my Kindle Fire.
When life gives you tech....Make use of it.

Funny, I have a nexus 7 and for me the oem charger has a very short cable.
I picked up a couple BlackBerry playbook chargers and it works great with them. 6 ft cable as well.
Via my HTC Rezound

All of my KF charging issues went away when I simply booted into recovery and charged from there. Not ideal, but it does charge at the typical stock or CM7 speed of 30% an hour and will do until the kernel issues are worked out.
There is another thread elsewhere here in the KF area talking about amperage and how other Android chargers will not charge very fast. I saw this with my Optimus V cord, have yet to test since I started charging from TWRP.

Agreed. I used a longer USB micro cable that I got on Amazon, and plugged into the Nexus 7 charger base.

[Q] charger replacement for kindle

can i use any charger that can fit into my kindlle fire?
i have a charger of LG optimus one and it fits exactly.
i cant find shops selling kindle fire charger here in the philippines.
the original has 1.8A - would try to get one that has around this value
with a charger under 1A i'm pretty shure you'll get charging problems or at least it lasts very long
basically you can use every usb charger ...
Yes you can as long as a charger has equivalent current as the original charger.

I lost mine and just been using the iphone wall charger with the mini usb cable and it's been working fine. Does charge pretty slow but that's all i can do for now.
Any USB charger will work, but one with less current won't charge as fast.

No... I got a charger off ebay and it said it was for the Kindle Fire, but it was only 1000 ma. and I had all kind of problems, There are several threads on this already..Get one at least 1.8 amps and you'll be ok..
The Kindle Fire will recharge from a powered USB hub or computer just fine, and that's only 500 mA. The USB spec doesn't allow for anything greater, so you may run into incompatibilities with other chargers since compatibility is the main reason we have specs. Hopefully manufacturers are talking to each other about how to make fast chargers, but, given Houndog101's experience, it doesn't seem like that's always the case.
The Kindle has a 16.3 W*h battery, so you can calculate how long it'll take to charge given any current (5V * current = Watts), if you account for the loss due to the Kindle being on at the time. A standard USB port is going to take at least 7 hours to fully recharge the Kindle, and probably more like 10+ if WiFi is on. So I'd definitely go for a 1.8 A charger, and hope for the best. Don't spend too much since it might not work unless it's specifically made for the Kindle.
Belkin F8Z630 charger
I've bought several of the Belkin F8Z630 chargers and been very pleased with them. Not cheap, but they deliver a solid 2.1 A at 5 Vdc, they can handle any input 100-240 Vac (basically worldwide usage), and they have a nice rotating plug feature that is handy in some tight spots. Works great for charging the KF quickly.
I found one in my car from an LG that chargers it just fine, and in a timely manner.
What happened to the stock charger? The one that cane with my fire did not work at all

thanks for the info, yep its in there and clicked together, still not charging properly, i think its a dead battery issue
Have you tried using a different charger or tried charging through your PC to eliminate potential problems with the plug and cable? Just a thought.

Try to jiggle the cable in certain directions such as up down left right and see if it starts to charge. If it doesn't, return the sucker.

I have found the N7 is picky with cables' the default one that comes with it works fine but doesn't seem to want to charge through my car charger.
My epic4g cable doesn't work and neither do any of my other USB cables.
Same with the charger, it has to have a dedicated live connection and no USB splitters with multiple ports.
I need like a good 4-5' USB cable to use tablet comfortably while charging.

I'm using a white 5ft cable I bought f/Amazon for my kindle fire.

Works great on the Nexus 7 as well.

I am now having similar problem on 16gig. It will not charge from the power adapter at all, but will charge from a PC using same cable.
Same behavior on my alternate cable that I use for phone.

My car charger doesn't work either but my computer/tv/printer/tivo/wall/everything else works just fine... it must be a voltage issue with the car charger.
I remember reading that the charging issue some of you guys r having is a confirmed hardware problem, due to poor quality control. Asus was in such a rush to get the first few batches out that certain faults made it into a select number of batches. Other people who have had this hardware problem either could only use the Asus adapter, or that might not even work. You should try to get it replaced by your seller. I'll post the source in the morning if everyone's too lazy to Google.
Cheers
possible fix
I've read on other forums that it is the usb port. I my experience it is a intermittent connectivity or the wall wort isn't putting out enough amps. I bought an iGo Green for the iPad, put the tablet in Airplane mode and it will work fine while using it. Last night I shut it all the way down, let it charge overnight and woke up with a full battery.
Seems like only high output chargers work. All my 2.1A chargers work with Nexus 7, but lower output ones do not charge even when Nexus 7 says it's charging.

Just for the hell of it...... pry the back cover off and make sure the battery is firmly plugged in. This happened to mine and now all is good

My 8GB arrived Monday , 1/2 charged pluged in to the 2A charger it says its charging but the battery just drops. Turned off and left overnight and its still no more than 20% charged.
I need to find an app that shows charging
check output of charger, check cables, check charge on phone vs tab then send back to Google for a replacement grrrr
I have the same problem, how do I fix? I have the 16 gb version.
The N7 seems to be having a lot of problems with charging. A couple times when my battery has been completely dead, I have had a tough time getting it to begin the charging process. One time I watched it begin to charge, then boot up, stay on for about 20 seconds, turn off, and then not charge. I have no idea what's going on. I always eventually get it to work, but something doesn't seem right.
Remedy
Google Play telephone support had be factory reset my Nexus 7 8GB. After the reset, the battery began charging. A major nuisance having to redownload everything, but it does work. Good luck

car charger

Any idea why I can't seem to charge my Nexus 7 with my car charger?
i have both a generic Micro USB charger and I have one of the dual USB ports that you put into the cigarette lighter. It wont even acknowledge that I have plugged anything into it.
i have used the USB port to charge MANY different cell phones my old Dell Streak 7 and even a friends iPad.
Any ideas?

I think the N7 needs 2A to charge. a single USB is 500 mA and the dual 1A, so I don't think there's enough power.
Also check if the output of your microUSB cigarette charger is 2A

This one will work: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0090SVY3K/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
It charges at the same rate as the stock AC charger.
The N7 is one picky device for charging. I have several chargers for the car that charge the iPad but not one will charge the N7. Same as AC chargers. This set works for me

This is what I use and it works just fine. I use it to charge my N7, GNote, Nook Color or my grandsons IPhone and it works equally well on all of them.
BTW, it prime available if you are a member.

It only charges via usb when the screen is off or when the device is off. Try plugging it in checking the battery % leave it awhile and then recheck the battery % you may find its gone up!

My Nexus 7 literally takes hours to charge

My Nexus 7 battery takes forever to charge. And this is even when I use my stock cable to the wall charger. I know it takes around 3-4 hours to charge it from dead to full but for some reason mine is only HALFWAY full at the 4 hour mark and I usually have to leave it on the charger the whole night/day for it to be fully charged.
I have no other defects on this product except for this one. And I never dropped it or anything and I'm currently running 4.1.2.
Please help. I know I can't be the only one with this problem.
Definitely use the oem charger (2 Amp compared to 500-850 ma for most) and the supplied USB-3 cable. It will charge faster. After the long initial charge up to 100% mine has been charging pretty well. If I'm down around 10% it can take up to 4 hrs to charge, but the battery is huge compared to most phones. It sounds like something isn't working normally for you. Have you tried turning it off, then charging?
Yes sorry I was unclear in the original post. I'm using everything stock when I charge my Nexus 7. I don't use any other cable. And yes I completely turn it off when I'm charging but yet it still charges horribly slow.
I would test another comparable charger just to make sure it's not the charger or cable itself.
There is a lot of threads that talk about the charger and the possible ones you can & can't use (Nexus 7 is picky). I use a HP Touchpad USB plug and a cable. It does the job well :good:

I use the HP touchpad charger, Playbook charger and KFHD charger. All three of those get the job done fast.
With those three, I don't even need to use the N7 charger lol

Do you keep it on while you're charging it? If so that will definitely make it take longer to charge since it's using power.
Nope.

I keep mine on, so I can check the % on screen. And long as you don't use it while it's charging, it won't take longer.
Trust me I keep everything that I charge off so that it can charge faster and not be using any power while charging. It seems no one else has gone through this from this thread though. It sucks that I have to get a new charger when the stock charger should be still working fine and perfectly.
As far as i have read the informations on / in box. It said to use the OEM charger only. I didn't really measure time when charging, but it always took maybe 2-3 hours max to charge the device completely.
Try blowing out your micro port with compressed air, had this on my galaxy2

[Q] Battery taking too long to charge

Ok, so at one point, my Nexus 7 started taking about 9 hours to fully charge using the stock charger and usb cable. I thought my charger was dead so I bought a 2.1 amp amazon basics charger with a 6 foot amazon basics usb cable. It still takes hours to charge. I read online that there was a bug with Android 4.2 and charging. The reason this CANT be a hardware issue, is because it happoned out of the blue. Didn't drop it, didn't jerk the cable or bend it in the inside or anything. So what's going on? Please help!
Thanks in advance!
P.S. It looses charge when charging and watching a YouTube video now. It never used to do that.

as far as I know, it is a known issue with 4.2.2. I don't think upgrading chargers will work, I tried my iPad's still takes forever to charge. For some reason, the original USB cable works better (at least for me).
Did you install custom ROM's with overclocking maybe?
