I will say i am a complete newb. I went through and used the rooting tool that was provided in the development forum. I went to run the debug bats file but it says open file failed. It also says this when i try to run a torrent file. The torrent has plagued me for 2 months now. Can someone please tell me why i cant open the files? Again I am a complete newb when it comes to rooting and programming.
Well i finally got a player that plays my torrents so that's not an issue. I tried rebooting my tablet and still wont let me open the file
Through some more reading i figured out that i need another computer to do this root. Is there not a root that you can d solely on your tablet?
I haven't seem an android apk like z4root that works for this tablet. Adb from a PC is the best way to go right now.

Alright I had a friend help me root it last night and verified on the root checker app i do indeed have root access. Now i am trying to do the tweak sean provided and I'm watching the video. When it comes to the renaming the build prop file it is not allowing me to do that. It says operation failed. Also when i try to past the new build.prop file it says it was not successfully copied. I went in and changed my home directory to /. Just like the video said but its still not happening. Can anyone give me a hand?
I didn't see you mention this but build.prop is located inside /system which is a read only mount. If you are trying to update it you need to change the mount to read write.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
I will give that a shot. How do you make it a rw file?
Not the file but the mount its in. Easiest way i found is to use Root Explorer from the market. Navigate to the system folder and tap the button at the top that says r/o and it will change to r/w. Don't forget to change it back when you're done.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Alright that let me do it. Is there anyway to check and make sure it was successful?
To the left of the button I mentioned is the current state the mount is in either r/o or r/w. You want r/w. Once you tap the button the status refreshes. If you can I would leave root explorer open while you push your file. Then when done, set it back to r/o.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Yep i got it downloaded. I rebooted the tablet after i downloaded the tweak. But is there a way i can make sure the tweak was successful?
Download root checker from the market. That should tell you. Remember to grant it superuser access when prompted.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Well i did root checker earlier too see if i have root access and sure enough i do. But it doesn't tell me if the tweak was downloaded successfully. Is there a way to check the fps to see if it is running at 60 fps? I figured that would be the easiest way to tell.
I don't know about that tweak sorry. Never used it.

I am running LeeDrOiD, but I know many people have this issue.
If you are trying to update Superuser from the market, and you get invalid signature and installation fails. This is my work around, which works for me.
My rom had superuser.apk and not Superuser.apk, which linux takes as two files whilst windows references everything in capitals.
Download Superuser Update Fixer.
Run the application, which will say that signature fails. Then run the fix, which will say okay all the way through and the signature still fails.
Download Root Explorer, and mount /system/ as rw.
Go to /system/apps/ and you will find Superuser.apk and superuser.apk, rename or delete superuser.apk and then rename Superuser.apk to superuser.apk.
Restart your phone.
Go to app drawer, and launch Superuser. Your whitelist and blacklist has been erased.
Run Superuser Update Fixer and you should see signature match is okay, now click update from market and enjoy.

I don't think there is. There may be another app that does this job though. You need something that can mount system rw.
It may be possible to do this step with ADB, however I just posted how I did it.
ES file explorer has this system rw option, it says that it only works with CM and some other rom but it works for me and I'm running leedroid. Only problem is you have to unmount and mount it again every now and then.
Yeah to make it work just select the non CM7 mod option, HIAPK i think it's called? either way just select that one, apart from what the guy above me said about the remounting every now and then, should be a good substitute for root explorer
I downloaded superuser from market and the fix but wen using es explorer i only see one superuser?

I only have the Superuser.apk, but still have problems on the update. I had lost root and just decided to reroot, but got the Ninja Icon app. I tried to update - sig failed. Tried the Update Fixer and on changing to 644 fail, check sigs fail. Then I tried this.
Any other ideas on how to get it?

At the moment my device running TF Stock NOT rooted 3.1,
I can install prime 1.6 ZIP using this mathod?
Quick guide to unbricking:
Connect cable to computer and turn device on while holding down Volume Up. Screen will stay off, but USB will come on.
(Windows only) Find “APX” device in Device manager and update driver, then point it at usbpcdriver directory from the zip
Run download.sh (linux) or download.bat (windows)
(The quick guide from here http://androidroot.mobi/ )
At the moment I am in the stage where APX driver installed in WIN 7 and TF's screen shows black..so need to know what next :0
Thanks!
If the screen is black and APX is detected you would normally run the script after that. It's important you have the necessary rom files in that directory as well, otherwise is clears and theres nothing to boot there. It's in the guide and video, I'd check the video out if you need more help.
PS: This really should be in Q&A/General.

I would have to be an appropriate NVflash file that's unzipped in that directory. NVflash zip should contain *.img files that go in that directory.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I don't think Prime 1.6 is nvflash compatible yet.
Use the Prime 1.4 from here
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/roach2010/flash_roms/prime_v1.4.tar.bz2
extract the content to the nvflash folder
Watch the video in this thread
http://tabletroms.com/forums/showthread.php?976-Nvflash-Unbricking-and-forever-root!
If done correctly you'll have Prime 1.4 and CWM recovery installed.
Boot into recovery and flash Prime 1.6
BTW, wrong section for posting question.

I too would like this!
Hulu supposedly works on this ROM, at least is states so:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264827
didnt see where it said that but i really dont wanna change roms just for huku. on my atrix ni matter what rom i flash i drop my modded flash.so fil in data/data/com.../lib and all flash videos work. this is the fix im looking for.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
you should do the exact same thing that you do on your phone. I have been using hulu since day one using this method. Just search for the modified library.so file and make sure you change the permissions to rw-rw-r (or whatever all the other files in that folder are) you will need some type of root explorer or adb to push the files to the correct folder.
also, you will need to redo this if you reboot. it doesnt persist through a reboot.
Civato mix 3 along with a hulufied flash will run hulu np

I just got my Nexus 7 and one of the things I missed dearly from my Rezound was a Superwipe script, so I'm trying to modify the one for the Rezound to work for the N7. Any information devs could provide would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Once I get it working, if I get the permission from the creators of it, I will release it here for everyone.
Good thinking, I'll make a look when I get a minute and see if I can help

I am interested in this too. I want to port my AIO wipe tool. I can get /system from a ROM install script. If it's possible, using ls -l (I think) and matching the output from that to the output from mount in terminal emulator. I plan to do the research either over the weekend or tomorrow evening.

This is taken from the android kitchen op as a method for finding the mount points within a specific Rom. It should work for any one in the dev section.
"If the stock ROM images for your device contain the recovery.img file, extract its files from the kitchen menu: Advanced --> Tools for boot image --> Extract from boot.img/recovery.img in any folder. Then, open up its ramdisk folder, and look for /system/etc/recovery.fstab or /etc/recovery.fstab or similar FSTAB file location. Open this file to find the mount points." Hopefully this helps ya

Ya you don't necessarily need to use the kitchen to extract the img files you can use any 3rd party to do it because really your only observing the files not changing anything

Also, just remembered that CWM recovery logs usually have that too. Going to check if I can find a log that will open, for some reason the ones in /cache/recovery/last.log won't open for me.
Edit: CM file explorer worked fine to open it, but the log didn't have the actual partition numbers. If someone gets the info, please post, otherwise, I will see what I can do at work tomorrow.

A friend informed me on how to get the mount points info through a dB, so I did that. The person who made the flashable Superwipe is looking into it tomorrow and then I'll test it when he's done and if all goes well, see what he says about posting it in the dev forum for everyone.

@OP I guess your search-fu was off, I found that in under three minutes.
For anyone's future interest I found it by searching for: nexus 7 partition layout xda
Edit: Will do some peeking at a ROM script tomorrow (if I have time at work) and port my tool. Last time I ported this to a device with JB native was SGS3 and the person who flashed a ROM afterwards got an error about 'error encrypting' he couldn't tell me anything more and I don't have that device and don't have that issue with my G2x's hacked JB, so I said eff it.
My nexus 7 had slowed down recently. So I was advised by someone here to reinstall the stock rom. So I backed everything up that was on it and installed the latest version of android (4.2.2). It worked. It's not slow anymore. But there's one problem. I can't delete any files on it using es file manager. I get a message saying "cannot delete some files. Please make sure that your storage is not mounted as read-only". I don't know what that means. Can someone help me?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You can delete unwanted files straight from TWRP Recovery. TWRP > Advanced > File Manager >SD Card > Select Items > Delete.
Well that worked. But it's too much trouble to have to go into TWRP just to delete a file. Why can't I delete it with ES file explorer like I could before I reinstalled the stock rom?

And SU or SuperSU (whichever) is active, with root permissions being granted as needed?
Depending on where you're working you may need to ask for write and mount privileges through terminal.
For example if working in /system:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
Caution do not do this if you are not experienced. You may damage your system.

Guys something is definitely not right. I just noticed that I can't read or write or edit text files (.txt). When I try to open a text file with es note editor it says an error occurred while trying to open file. Why is this happening? I almost wish I never did a fresh install.

Hm weird. Under the assumption that you are doing everything correctly, it should work as superuser permissions supersedes all and any limitation unless the file is open preventing it from being written to. If that's the case you will have to go through recovery as Username invalid suggested to edit the file.

I just tried that. Unfortunately it didn't work. And it gets worse. It seems like I can't do anything to the file system at all. Meaning I can't create a new file or folder. And I can't edit or delete what's already there. I haven't tried to download anything yet. But that probably won't work either. This is terrible.

I returned to stock with the nexus 7 toolkit. It does everything for you. But it doesn't seem to help with this. Anyway I looked at those apps, and root explorer is $4.00. I don't mind paying for it. But I want to know if it's a necessity to have before I buy it.
The other app (terminal emulator) has multiple versions by different companies. How do I know which one to get? Here are some:
Android terminal emulator by jack palevich
Terminal emulator by cityapp
Shell terminal emulator by mobildev
Terminal IDE by Spartacus Rex
There are even more, those are the free ones.
