ActiveSync outbox mail stuck - Loops - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Hi All,
Some background:
We deployed about 30 of these devices in our company.
We have exchange 2007 with public SSL certificates.
There is a leased line(South Africa) into our company 512K.
The devices connects to our servers via HSDPA+ (W-cdma)
The problem.
Since we started activating these devices on Exchange server (ActiveSync) it stated pulling our WAN connections dead.
We traced the problem to the devices.
What happens.
When you send an attachment(tested with 700+KB) to anyone in the company, the mail starts sending, and gets stuck in the outbox. After a while you get an error stating "Cannot connect to server". Meanwhile the message has been delivered. The message is still in the outbox and keeps on sending forever.
Anyone have a solution or similar experience?
There is currently no update avail for the devices...

Try out the "enhanced email" app. It is based on the same source code but has some great modifications. Make sure you uncheck the HTML option while setting it up. Something about that with some versions of exchange causes it to choke like you described, and you can't disable it with the stock app.

Don't think that is the right approach as most of the other android devices on the network works 100%.
The problem is just with the tablets.

Think I have found the problem here:

Ture. I was lucky and got it as the free app of the day on Amazon. Can you get your company to get one copy though and see if that does indeed fix your problem? I suspect it will because I had the exact same issue, and switching to the app I got for free fixed it.

Solution is not successful (29 Dec2011) - "IRM not Supported" bug with Exchange Email
Issue:
My firmware is 2.3.5 KK1.
I get the error "IRM not supported" after a day to sometimes 4 days of use. My inbox will stop syncing and with manual sync, that message will appear. Anyone face this problem and have any solution?
Note: Solution is not successful and disclaimer:
I believe the workaround for this problem to prevent the Exchange security policies from being pushed down by Exchange server during Exchange account setup on the Samsung Note. The purpose for me to release this is because of a bug with Samsung Note that they can't resolve. I took it upon myself to do the research and create the modded email.apk to share with other Note users who are also suffering from this problem. If you don't have this problem, don't use this.

Cautionary Note:
Use this at your own risk, I don't guarantee that it will work for you. If something goes wrong with your Note, but blame me!
Solution 1:
Using rustamabd's method
Solution 2:
Using gauner1986's method
Steps to apply the solutions:
1. You need to Root your Note.
2. Delete all your email accounts.
3. Use Root Explorer or Root Browser to delete email.apk and email.odex from /system/app
4. Soft reset your Note
5. Use Root Explorer or Root Browser to copy email.apk to /system/app and exit
6. You should be able to see the Email icon. If not, soft reset your Note
7. Create your accounts
8. Personally, solution 1 works for me. Please try and give me feedbacks on whether which solution works or both don't work at all.
Solutions using 2.3.5 KL1 source:
Yep. I deleted and setup the account on my phone again and it worked for a couple weeks. Im having another issue tonight though, and it may or may not be the same issue.

Replace Email.apk in System\App with this one;

do you need to be rooted to apply the changes?

i'm quite puzzled by this one actually. Been using my Note for almost 1 month and snyc my email with no problem. just so suddenly got this IRM and now email does not snyc anymore. did not do anything to email account, so what causes it? anyone care to explain. thanks
Yesterday, it hit me. This morning and then again, during the evening. Within 2 days, 3 times, and I had to delete the account and recreate.
Complained to Samsung Singapore, was asked to go down service centre, and was told by the supervisor that he don't know what is wrong, and he went checking in forums, and confirmed that it is a problem. Really pissed me off big time, wasting my time to travel there to be told he uses forum to diagnose and confirm on problem. He told me that he will feedback to his engineer and also will contact me if there is a new firmware. Not promising at all, since 2.3.6 is what we can expect and that still have problem.
I'm rather uncomfortable to apply the apk mentioned above. :-(

ok guys, this is what I did and it seems to solve the problem....but I just tried it so Im not too sure if the problem is going to resurface.
I went to account settings checked the client certificate. After the security policy push down again, it seems to have solved the problem. But, when I check again, the client certificate setting wasnt checked but the irm issue went away. Better then deleting and recreating the account because my security policies include encrypting the storage, so its a pain to delete and recreate the account.

I experienced the same after the upgrade.
anyway, i had to enter my complete email address as username in the "domain\user name" field for it to work. might want to check the "Use secure..." and "Accept all..." depending on your exchange server requirements.
I was in the opposite case, on GB i could not configure my exchange/live.fr email, now on LPY I can easily configure it by adding an Exchange account in Settings>Accounts.

Try to add in pin for your Note before trying to create the account. Btw, I'm having issues too. At first without pin, and couldn't create as it keeps complaining about password and ID or something. After pin was added, now it's showing waiting to sync. This is happening on my HP Touchpad aokp_tenderloin build 37. On my note, I have been using Liquidsmooth V1 and also had problems previously. I downloaded some email apks that were nodded but solved my problem since.. Now I'm trying to do it on my build 37.
Don't jump to conclusion that I am in the wrong thread. Just trying to share information.
Edit:
The email apks I mentioned above also have the same problem. Real strange! :'(

Samsung - please fix the Email app

I am using the native email app for my exchange account. It is useless..
1. Keeps force closing
2. Whenever I try to move a message to a folder it keeps loading then closes
I was hoping it would fix with the new OTA update but not luck.
I am using N900 model.
I actually have the same problem but on a S800 version of the phone.
I've tried clearing the cache, removing my account and a lot of different things.
I am rooted, use a different dpi than stock but via xposed it is stock dpi. It never worked w/o fcing the first time I open it, even before I was rooted even.
If I want to read an email I open the app, it fc's, then I open it again and all is fine...
Would be nice of anyone had an answer or fix for this.

i have this problem on my exchange account... not quite the same, but every time i get an email or notification to do with that account, i can't access it from the notification bar or the app will force close. even if i try to clear all notifications or clear just that one, it freezes up the phone for about 5 seconds then force closes the email app
any ideas? this sucks... i need that account for work...
I think we need to narrow down the problem, what I can do is to make for you a test email in my company just for you to test, I'm with exchange 2007. What you think,? I'm really thinking that is regional problem or something that has to do with character encoding in the phone or in the exchange server or even with the certificate.
You both have knox enabled?

Well I have frozen the knox crop via titanium backup.
I've only setup a Hotmail account. Never had any problems on my old note 2 or s4. Not even on 4.3 Google edition roms or aosp. Anyway, the problem was there even before I rooted strangely. Even when I swipe away email notifications the app fc's.
Could it be an email.apk problem in the /system/app folder?
Could someone with root please upload it so I can test?
Another edit.
I've noticed it only happens when I get an email, which means I get an notification. If I open the app when I get an notification as well it fc's. When I just open is at random it doesn't fc. Very very weird

I have tried it with Knox frozen and not frozen....I'm on a n900w8 rooted with twrp installed. If I do anything to interact with an email notification from my exchange account it freezes the phone for a few seconds then force closes email. If I turn notifications off, and nothing gets displayed in the notification bar then I can use it all normally. And even with stuff being displayed, if I go into the actual program and check the email, it works, even with the notification there, but it doesn't go away and when I go to get rid of it then same thing force close.....what a load of Crap that Samsung puts out something with an issue like this on a phone that is supposed to be "business friendly" ****ing bull****
My problem with email app:
It sends emails just fine it does not receive any email unless i remove the account and add again. there is nothing wrong with my server (using IMAP push from hostgator) and in the K9 client its working flawlessly however i would really like to use the stock app. It wont receive email even if i do a manual refresh i have to remove the whole account and add it again
can anyone help me please??

Two things....first, would this cause the notification related issues I have?
Second, I just found that, if I set sync to manual, send myself an email from a Gmail account on my computer, then go into the email app and click refresh to sync, then I get the same problem....email freezes things up fit a few seconds then force closes. I can still Re open email and after I do that then it works fine and I can interact with my nail, it's just those two situations that causes the force close.....don't get it

4.4 OTA breaks certificate-based authentication support

Just upgraded my device to OTA 4.4 and Exchange services crashed every time I opened Email (I kept getting a message "Unfortunately Exchange Services stopped" repeatedly).
After deleting both the email account and the user certificate (we use certificate-based email authentication), I am unable to re-add the Exchange account back (after defining all credentials and parameters, I get a popup that says "Couldn't finish. Can't connect to server."). Additionally, I see a white triangle with an exclamation point inside in the notification bar. When I pull the bar down, the exclamation bar has a caption of "Network may be monitored by an unknown third party". When I click on that caption, I get a new pop-up saying "Network monitoring. A third party is capable of monitoring your network activity, including emails, apps and secure web sites. A trusted credential installed on your device is making this possible". There is a button underneath called "Check trusted credentials" and clicking on that takes me to a "user" portion of the trusted credentials store, where I see my corporate CA certificates.
In general, the issue of certificates issued by a non-public CA generating a "Network may be monitored" message has already been documented in several forums and there is an issue #62076 created for it. However, I suspect that "security features" introduced in KitKat are somehow preventing my device from using my certificate for email authentication (because device does not trust it). I knew I could count on Google to break the most used feature of my phone (email) and thus render it useless. Another win for the history books.
had the same issue after updating to 4.4. in short, i had to re-push both OA and CA certificates to re-establish the authentication system for work

I already tried that twice. No joy.
The most annoying part is that I also have a Nexus 10 tablet and it had ZERO problems after upgrading to KitKat (aside from the annoying "your network is being monitored" notification). This means Motorola yet again mucked with the stock Android install and broke it.
Any other ideas? I'd hate to go through a pain of reverting back to 4.3.
It'll work if you keep deleting, rebooting, then reinstalling the apk for email. At least it did for me. My company issues these certs, and I got it to work eventually.

So....here is what the issue is: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=61785
Looks like quite a lot of people are affected by this. I cant believe how sloppy Google's QA is if something as major as this was pushed out of the door.
Now I need to wait for Motorola to incorporate this fix into their build of Android, then for Verizon to "test" it and roll it out via another OTA update. In the mean time, my Moto X is as good as a brick because I cant get my corporate email/contacts/calendar on it.
Ridiculous!

Can you clarify 'work' - I assume this means it is sync'ing - do you still have the security warning about the certificate, or did this get cleared in your reboot/re-install cycles ?
Thanks
Just wanted to update everyone - Google has stated that the issue is fixed "in a future release". One "minor" problem - there is zero information as to which release, as well as when it is going to be rolled out.
So....as of now thousands of people using private certs on Kitkat devices are still screwed and this number is growing by the day. In order to make it more convenient to pretend like the issue is minor and insignificant, Google has blocked further comments on issue 61785 after 260 people starred it, so now users that have an issue cannot even report it.

If the issue is resolved and Google has a rollout plan for the fix, what use is there for further bug reports or reporting? It just becomes noise in their bug tracking system. Is there a purpose for yet more people to say, "hey, yeah, I have this issue too"?

That's the point. This issue only affects users that are using certificates issued by private CAs for ActiveSync authentication. If you are not using certificates, you would not be affected.

What you are experiencing is a separate issue, so please open a separate thread for it.
The issue being discussed here is a situation where an attempt to use private certificates for authentication while adding an Exchange Activesync account to a device running 4.4 results in a bogus "Couldn't finish. Can't connect to server." error message (while the device does not even attempt to go out and establish a connection).

There are several reasons the thread should have remained open:
1. While Google is taking their sweet time to roll out a fix, someone may find a workaround for the issue. A workaround is certainly better than a phone with no email/contains/calendar (and no, nobody wants to pay for and use those crappy 3rd party email clients).
2. Having 10,000+ people star a thread gives a great indication of how widespread the issue is, hopefully giving Google developers a hint that it needs to be prioritized and rolled out ASAP (as opposed to incorporating it into the next general patch release).
3. Since most handset vendors customize their Android build, the issue may not exist on every handset made by every manufacturer. Someone may report that a particular device is not suffering from this issue, thus making it safe to buy.
4. If and when the fixed version of Android is finally rolled out and the "fix" does not work, users have no way to report it, other than opening a brand new thread and wasting more resources.

[FIX] Yahoo Mail - Could Not Sign In

Hey all,
I was having issues with my Moto X alerting me that it could not sign in to my Yahoo account. However, when I would go into the app, it would function correctly without me logging back in or taking any action. But, the notifications were annoying as it was happening at least once per day.
Anyway, I played around with the account settings and was able to remedy the issue, or so I believe. The fix is pretty darn easy...
- Go into either the mail app itself or go into system settings, click on the Email account, then account settings
- Click on your email address [email protected] to adjust those preferences
- Scroll all the way down and click on Incoming Settings, under the Server heading it should read: Android.imap.yahoo.com
- Remove the "Android." piece of the phrase, so it should now read: imap.yahoo.com
- Click Done
- Repeat these steps under the Outgoing Settings as well and your issue should be resolved
Let me know if this works for you, or if you continue to have issues, thanks.
Fine, good work's it. I am already done it.. thanks

You are right. It really has nothing to do with settings. It's on Yahoo's end not our phones. I ve been getting that sign in error ever since my 1st android phone (Htc hero) so i am used it by now. It comes and goes away.

Interesting. I have always been able to modify the incoming and outgoing settings to remedy the issue. I will let everyone know if this works long term. Thanks for the info.
I am a few days into this correction and have yet to receive any notice from the phone / Yahoo / mail app that I could not be signed into Yahoo. Not waving the flag yet, but for those of you who were having this issue, it may well be a simple and permanent fix.
Hope it works for you, this error happens randomly and intermittently so I just live with it and have transitioned most things to gmail.

Yeah, multiple days into the experiment now and still working as advertised.
After over a month of use, I can now 100% confirm this fix. I have not had any issues since the day I made the change to the settings. So if anyone is still having this issue, please feel free to use the info provided in the first post.
Glad it worked for you, only temporary fix for me. I broke down and installed the Yahoo mail app again. Its gotten much better and does not destroy the battery any more.
