I was looking in the ICS thread and was reading that some ICS user can pick up wifi tether from there android phones and I was hoping someone could tell me how to do so thank you in advance if you can help me
If your android phone is rooted you can download one of many wifi hotspot apps from the market, i.e., Wireless Tether, Barnacle, etc. You can then connect to said hotspot via your KF. If your phone is not rooted look to your providers stock hotspot app, however if you this route you will most likely have to pay an extra premium to use this service.

You can make you phone as a hotspots active if you have data connection agreement with your phone services provider. Check if you have this option in the mobile wireless setting in your smart phone. Please note there is additional cost for data a d you should join a package that fit your need

If I connect my Nexus 7 to my HTC One X by Bluetooth for data tethering and Tablet Talk, and then enter an area with Wifi and the Nexus connects to it, will it then put the Wifi connection at a higher priority than the Bluetooth connection? I'd obviously rather it use when available.
Why don't you try it and see what the result is?
I have tried it but it's hard to tell which connection it's actually using since both are available to it.

Try monitor the data usage on your phone then while connected to both and see if the phone's data is being used. I would think WIFI wins.
Turn wifi off on your HTC X, so that its sharing its data connection over the BT tether. Check IP before and after entering wifi area. Tada!
Email the tablet talk developers, they're really quick and friendly.

Hello... I have broadband connection.
I surf internet by using wifi tether. ( Creating WiFi hotspot on laptop)
My question is, In case of PC(where there is no WiFi device) is there any way that I use broadband without wireless tethering. I mean connecting USB cable to the computer and from that accessing broadband. (Means internet)?
If anyone knows this then please suggest what to do?
huummm....I end up with an application called ReverseTether. Before I google the issue and find this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929918
Now both working fine, , but still I cant download market apps.
The reverse tether application works good but have only one problem is that at the time of "appear as a 3G connection" it wont work.
At that time " Network NDIS LAN driver" shows that cable is unplugged. Application shows that it connected but nothing work.
So what I do is I untick option " appear as a 3G connection" and run it again,,, at this time is work but market application which requires data plan connectivity or wifi that doesnt work.
Same as with the tool. You cant download market apps.
If anyone have the solutions then please let me know.
Thank you.
I will test and try to find your answer, maybe tomorrow

I'm hopeless here. I have a paid VPN service, and it works perfectly with my PC, with my mobile on Wi-Fi and with my friend's mobile also on 3G, but not on mine. For sure there's something wrong with my device. I tried hard reset, different ROMS and all different servers and settings.
It does connect to the VPN and it keeps up the connection, but internet just doesn't work. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I tried to search other threads about this, but no success.
Thanks
Raphael
Same here ... I search but nothing ... I'm on Ressurection Remix 3.1.3 with Kernel cm 10.1... VPN in 3G don't work
Have you tried the app Go to my p.c. app?

vpn thrue 3g and mobile connection
hi
reason, routing.
1. you have to setup your vpn connection to route any data between your vnp-connection.
or
2. you use another apn who route unsecured and secured data to different routes.
(secured data = VPN, unscured Data => www)
Check the isp apn if it use a stateful paket inspection firewall. this apn can ussually only route secured data (vpn).
Its no bug its a feature to solve some problems like too much connections, timeouts, reduction of hacker attack surface, and more..
you can find this information in the special vpn-whitepaper from your isp.
i hope this helps you.
How does the go to my p.c. app work?Is it pretty good app. Thanks

One thing I notice not all 3G provider allow VPN traffic. Orange is one that I discovered not allow VPN via 3G.

When you set up the VPN on your phone, make sure you fill out the forwarding fields as 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 otherwise no traffic will be forwarded through it. Testing on wifi from the same location as the host is a miserable way to test VPN as it tells you nothing. Turn off the wifi, and always test on your mobile data. There ARE carriers out there that WILL filter out VPN connections for normal user accounts and require you sign up under a business-class account to use such connectivity, this is because they want more money from you, and to not give you an easy way to get around their tethering detection. Plus in some countries, you're not allowed to possess the capability to encrypt and secure your own data/traffic and the means of encryption are banned (and therefore filtered "on-the-wire").
Use VPN Service that has open port. Like http://xtreamvpnworld.blogspot.com ive been using it for more than a year. I got no problem.

That's seems odd. Anyway I haven't tried built in vpn, how about openvpn? Have you tried it? I think built in vpn doesn't support voips like viber etc. Or maybe your vpn provider does not. I really don't know. Because I tried using droid and xtream vpn it works on every chatting platforms.

Hi. i am working on a project with arduino and android wifi. i wanna connect my arduino to my smartphone, using my smartphone as a router with a wifi hotspot, but i don't wanna share my data connection. how do i do this? i just wanna test something regarding wifi range, so all i need is my arduino to connect to the smartphone as if the smartphone was a router. is this possible?
TL;DR
Can i use my smartphone as a router, allowing me to connect my arduino to it?
My question is why would you want to specifically not share data? Simplest answer is to put your phone on Airplaine Mode... AFAIK
I found an article that doesn't quite match your question but may give you some insight: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...by-using-the-shell-on-a-rooted-android-device
Personally I think you would have to use some shell commands and some iptables modifications to achieve what you want.. I use DroidWall to modify iptables and block apps from connecting to the internet. Possibly you could block "Tethering" from the Internet using this app.
Hope all goes well,
