Hey Guys,
Sorry I'm clearly not up to this task but after having fun with my Defy that was already running a pikachu edition rom, I had updated it to 2.4.20 and then thought I'd like to try CM10 JB...now I feel like a wally as I flashed the kernel/rom in recovery (CWM I think?) and it crashes quite a bit etc so I wanted to go back to MIUI.. however I cannot.. as each time I install it locks on the motorola screen - I assume this is because of the kernel? can I not find the correct (or can someone point me to) 2.3.4? or whichever kernel and just flash it then flash MIUI again?
I've red the all in one guide etc and have not yet had any experience with RSDLITE etc but have it installed and ready - I guess I'm just not even sure what SBF to even flash - if I even need to at all?
all advice well appreciated!

Can you describe what exactly is happening?
Before you flash another random rom wait and give people on forum a chance to help you. It might be a tiny issue easy to solve

First, I'm sorry about my bad English.
I had troble when I applied CM9 12/7 Rom, so I restored from clockworkmod recovery, but it doesn't work!
That's why I have been flashed SBFs till now.
And I could boot my defy, but I noticed that I applied some weird Rom.
It is

Help me.

i didn't try it, just found it in the forum
im on the same boat.
did it work?
Look in the cm9 bug report thread I'm sure there are links and instructions for it. You have to flash cm7 kernel then do nandroid or reflash cm7.
Sent from my CM9 Defy

I cant quiete figure out what you're trying to tell me Oo
so i guess you can downgrade from cm9 to ms2ginger but not to cm7? oO
im currentliy switching a lot between cm9 and cm7 so you should just go into cwm and wipe everything, install cm7 wipe again and thats it...
i dont know if you really have to wiupe twice, but thats the way i do it and it works perfectly

please post a link to the cm7 you were using. i'm thinking you used the wrong gapps. cm9's gapps doesn't work for cm7. you need to use the gapps for cm7. usually you can get cm7 gapps from the link in the first post of cm7 thread. like here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
go down to the bottom of the first post and click on "latest google apps".
Hello everyone...this is my first post here. I got gifted a brand new U8800 pro device and i'm very happy of that fact. I've read a lot how to upgrade to the official 2.3.5 Gingerbread and i did it....after that i successfuly rooted the phone and finaly i'm wondering do i NEED to install ClockworkMod Recovery and what is the purpouse of this. Do i need to change the stock 2.3.5 with a custom ROM?Can anyone to tell me what the differences are? And finaly recomandations for some other from the stock one theme? Thanks
PS...sorry for my english...

1. You need to install CWM recovery only if you flash custom roms.
2. You dont need, if your happy with stock.
3. Differences are unique for roms. You can read them from rom threads usually.
4. Cant help you with theme
Stock roms are good but custom roms are way better than the stock.
Recently i change my stock rom with cyanogen and i see that the phone i faster than ever.
With custom rom you see the real power of the phone.
thank you julle131....and -TRANE-....i'll thing about changing the stock rom with the custom ones...thanks anyway
I recommend you installing CWM, you see, there are some really fancy stuff in UOT kitchen like more informative battery indicators and other goodness, and to install it you need custom recovery image.
What about custom ROMs, I've only tried CM7, but sadly sound of the back speaker is bad. Try it yourself, if you can cope with it then CM7, or maybe MIUI is the way to go, since custom ROMs almost always are better than stock no matter how good the last one is.
Hi guys,
i know that there might already be an existing thread about this but i wouldn't create one if i had found something that helps me.
Im using a Defy+ with Miui 2.3.2 and i really want to move to CM10 Jelly Bean.
I've found a really cool thread from Quarx and Epsylon about installing CM10 on a Defy+.
I already downloaded the newest release (04.09.) zip file and also the google apps and put both on my SD card.
But as it seems and as i have heard, it's not possible to move from a NON-CM version like MIUI to a CM version by going the typical steps (booting phone in recovery mode, choosing the Quarx zip file and installing it).... or am i wrong?
Can i just put firmware and google apps on my SD card and install that zip from recovery mode and everything's working well?
I didn't mention to wipe the dalvik cache here cause it's just a detail. I just wanna know if this MIUI to CM transformation is possible.
Hope you can help me, i really wanna use Quarx's CM10 cause i've heard it's amazing.
Thank you guys
is there noone who can help me with this or at least give me a link to another thread that already deals about this?
I don't think there would be any problem provided you wipe data/cache/dalvik before flashing CM.

ahhh, now i remember which problem there was with changing from MIUI to CM.
Doesnt MIUI use another kernel than Quarx's newest CM?
Unless and utill you downgraded your kernel to the froyo one, you won't have any issues. I have flashed WIUI GB version for Defy+ and for me the kernel is still the stock one.
Can anyone hep me with this? I had miui then tried to flash cm10, i followed all the steps but when booting up for first time it got stuck miui screen. I guess this means i have the wrong kernel but im not sure how to correct it

1. Flash a new kernel OR
2. Flash your stock SBF, re-root and go from there OR
3 (New option now) Flash the latest quarx JB CM10 with custom kernel included.
After intalling CM10 by tezet, I find that I still prefer the CM7 by tezet. So I decide to install CM7 instead CM10. But when I installed CM10, I installed kernel-milestone2-cn-2.3.4-4.5.3.
So my question is that whether I need install kernel-milestone2-uk_2.2.1-froyo before installing CM7?
Thanks in advance.
same question here hope some one could shed some light.
before i went to cm10 i was on stock froyo though 2.2.
You should be able to flash CM7 with that chinese kernel you flashed, just remember to do a full backup and full wipe, you're downgrading.
Get the 2.2.1 UK kernel and put it in your SD card, just in case something goes wrong even if you get into bootloops you should be able to get to the bootmenu.
If you still cannot get into bootmenu, recover your phone with an SBF.
Good luck

Yes, you need to instal this kernel, else you stuck on boot logo. It looks like new CM7 builds doesn't contains kernel.

although someone has answered you question,I wanna answer that again.
Yes,you mus install it before installing CM7.Kernel is most important. The whole system is complied with special kernel Version.

I didn't include kernel not on purpose Will fix this next time...
I'm with the same question so correct me if i'm wrong,
For all who want to downgrade from cm10 to cm7 and are using CH-GB kernel have to:
1 - flash Froyo Kernel
2 - flash latest cm7
3 - install gapps
My question is, can I install this kernel by "install from zip" mode?
So I'm getting a brand new L7 tomorrow and I really don't like that it comes only with android 4.0 and Lg's skin.
I want to root and install a custom ROM, and after the (very little) research I've made it looks like that the CarbonRom for 4.4.2 (p705) is the more "stable" (pls correct me if I'm wrong). In the website it said that the device has NFC so it must be the p700 which may force me to install a different kernel (to work with the ROM).
My doubts are if I can keep updating the ROM, as new updates came out, without losing my data/settings? And if something goes wrong how do I go to stock (as it came by Lg)?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English, it's not my first language

It wil lcome with 4.1.2 .. also sucks to get L7, it really sucks...after you have a custom rom, you can keep updating it without losing any data by just wiping cache and dalvik cache in cmw and then flashing new build.
Thank you, for answering me

Didn't choose, it's a replacement for my old cellphone (an old Nokia)... Ok, that's good then. One doubt about the base band if I understand correctly I need to install/flash the correct one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335273, (I live in Portugal so I guess it's the Europe one), this is after or before the installation of a custom rom?
Do you recommend a OC kermel for p700 compatible with the ROM I was talking about?

No need for baseband if you're running jelly bean+(v20)
Though you will need to root phone and install CMW(clockworkmod) so you can flash roms, but it's easy and everythings here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2486512
also abut kernels, there was a kernel in carbon topic for p700, just skim through pages.

Nice that makes things easier
yeah, I have rooted an old tablet (nook color) and it was fairly easy it's just that this is supposed to be my daily driver so I just want to be extra careful
Already saw it thanks, now I'm just deciding between "installing" Carbon and CM by Cr3pT (4.4.2) they both look stable enough and smooth....

seems like you will have to change then it's nothing hard, just flash v20b through cmw and then rom and gapps
...look at names end, there will be date cm_11.0.p700_exp.201402222230.cr3pt = 2014/02/22/ 22:30(time)

Yes I did. I tried a few times and the end result was the same... I installed/flashed Carbon instead and everything is running smoothly
Now I just have to figure it out how to change the kernel, the one by Cr3pt talked on the Carbon thread is a boot.img file
