Google Maps Position Problem - Atrix 4G General

I have had an issue with G Maps for awhile now. The position seems to fix fine sometimes with gps, but then it will start to jump around and become unreliable. I don't believe it to be a problem with the gps radio as the gps test app checks out fine, the nav app works fine, orux maps with the gmaps overly works fine. I tried to uninstall the app but being a system app has made it difficult. I have also rolled back up dates but that didn't help. I am on the newest version now. I am running Nottachtrix with faux oc kernal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

When I was on nottrix I used the gps fix from the neutrino rom by notorious544d it's one of his addons gps mod . Unzip and use your region ,there is some directions in the zip.
It worked for me on nottrix and works on cm10 epinter rom that I am using now.

G Maps appears to be dodgy on some roms. I have a problem on stock rom with later versions of gmaps where gps would get a lock, but gmaps would only report the cell tower location. Downgrading to 5.8 solved my problem.

+1 on the downgrade....I've had nothing but problems with Maps 6+ where I was never able to get a lock at all. I recommend getting GPS status to make sure that your GPS is working, this is how I discovered that it was G Maps because it showed that my device GPS was working perfectly. Downgraded and it works flawlessly. Good luck!

I flashed a clean version of wet dream and maps seems to be working great again on version 6.2. I probably wont try to update since its working. Thanks for all the replies

New Google Map forces you to turn on Wifi
The new version of Google Map forces you to turn on Wifi regardless of any hotspot. As soon as I turn on Wifi, GPS on my Atrix is locked.
BTW, GPS on Google Navigation still locks when wifi is off.

OK, I installed the latest gmaps 6.10 and the compass seems smoother than ever but the gps location still isn't reported despite getting a lock. One solution that does work though is to switch off network location and you will get an accurate gps fix. Unsure whether to downgrade or not now :-$
Anyone know how to file a bug report with Google?
Sent from my Atrix

I've experienced the same issue as OP, occasionally reports my location hundreds of meters away. Maps 6.10 was released just a few days ago so I will report back.

Well, I left GPS on while at home and in the last hour it's been slowly creeping to a location 1km from where I actually am. Gonna try the neutrino gps fix next.
EDIT:Wow it doubled my satellite count from 5 to 10 at home. Let's see what it does for jumpy accuracy.

Great sucess! No jumps in 8 hours since applying neutrino gps fix.

Somehow my GPS stopped working

Had been running 7.02 and then updated to 7.03 the other day. I had an occasion to use the GPS yesterday, and it refuses to get a gps lock. GPS Status show 11 sats, yet it never locks. I did the old CM7 > CM6 > CM7 trick and it will lock once, and only once. (this was after turning GPS off and then back on)
Any clues?

You definitely dont need to do the cm6 fix, that was only for if your gps wouldnt turn on at all. It didnt have anything to do with it getting a lock or not.
Using gps status: Menu>Tools>Manage A-GPS state>Reset.
Menu>Tools>Manage A-GPS state>Download.
Also, do you have your Data connection turned on? Or wifi? If you try to get a lock without one of those turned on it can take quite a while. And try to get your lock outdoors and without moving until you get your initial lock.
If that doesnt do it for you I would first suggest re-flashing a fresh download of 7.0.3.
And finally, which radio are you running? The originaly 2.1 or the updated 2.2 radio?

Thanks for the response:
I have tried the A-GPS reset and data, without any help.
This fails with either WiFi on or off and out and about ( in car)
GPS was working on my phone with 7.02, but in between the last time I used it, I had installed Tasker and updated the radio (I was getting lots of dropped calls on my morning route) and upgraded to 7.0.3. Restoring my Nandroid 7.0.2 does not resolve the issue, so I do not believe that it is a 7.0.3 thing. I guess I can back the radio update out and see if that was it, not sure if that made any reception difference anyway.
Thanks,
T

yea try reverting the radio image and let us know if that fixes your issue. Ive seen other posts from people having issues with the newer radio image. Ive not personally had any issues but every piece of hardware is different.
How do you revert back radio images? I have this problem too sometimes. I just exit GPS Test and start it up again and it finally finds my position after I was already connected to satellites.

I'm also having GPS issues but mine when I'm using it if I make a turn the arrow will stay facing the same direction (if I'm facing north and turn east it still faces north) but if I'm at a stop light sometimes it fixes itself I'm using cm7 rc4 I had to the original cm6 back to cm7 GPS fix. GPS cannot lock on signal on Trigger 3.2

Hi guys,
I've installed Trigger 3.2 and flashed the S.GPS fix, im trying to use the GPS using the "NAVIGATION" app but it wont lock on signal... it keeps showing me this "сhecking navigation availability" message while the gps icon on tray keeps flashing...
i left it a coupe of times for half an hour but it still wont lock on signal...
the starnge thing is i tested it using "GPS TEST" app and the apps shows that the GPS DO work and it allready found 12 birds and is using like 8 right now...
what do you guys think could be the problem?...
I just tried it on trigger 3.3 beta. At first it did as your saying. I reflashed the s.zip fix, went to gps test after reboot got a good lock. Then ran navigation no problem.
When I was still stock gps test was the only way I could get mine to work. So its habit for me to use it to get a lock then go about maps/navigation.
Dunno might work might not.

The fix does it itself. No need to do it manually.
Same problem. Ether way the GPS on the Vibrant sucks monkey balls. Horrible compared to other android devices! And there is not a good fix for that! Tried about 20 Roms and GPS still sucks even tried 4 Vibrants devices. Sh*t out of luck! Nice screen but crappy GPS.

I was totally surprise with the GPS lock.. It takes forever to lock before i flash this rom. But after using this ROM.. guess what? within a few seconds i got the gps lock. I don't know what they do over there but it sure works.. I need to find out what are they fixes and see if they are able to work on my Vibrant or not.
Seriously GPS lock in a few seconds for Galaxy S device is just simply magic. Let me know if anyone know what they did on that rom that make it sooo much better.
THanks
Ok, i followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912777
and installed "Waze", with this app the gps finds birds and gets a lock in seconds with great accuracy!
but on the Navigation app it still wont find them...

GPS never works after Froyo

hi all.
Ever since I went from Froyo to Gingerbread-based ROMs (and since then to ICS) my GPS has never worked.
AngryGPS doesn't find a single sattelite after 15 minutes, it just like the GPS is dead.
All ROMs I try claim to have a good working GPS, however none actually works.
The GPS lock icon, which should be blinking, is there but not blinking.
Since most people claim to have a working GPS with ICS, could it be a problem with the phone itself?
(I always try the GPS after a reboot)
Thanks for your help.
Been having the same issue, i have tried tens of solutions and flashed tens of fixes, i even opened it to try to fix it and it still doesnt work like its suppose to. Google maps never get my accurate location, its usuallly about a mile off, mapquest however is able to give me turn by turn navigation albeit its often late in its guidance. Very frustrating.

Well, I do use ICS passion right now and I did use eugene's kernel at some point in the past (maybe with MIUI, don't exactly remember).
Anyway none of them had working GPS.
My phone was manufactured at July 2010. Could it be some old revision with GPS problems? Although I did apply the hardware fix back when I was using 2.2, which did help back then.
This is why I'm sadly back onto 2.2. GPS still sucks but better than on GB.
I did everything possible to get GPS to work on GB. I've done the hardware fix, I've flashed everything possible, and the only time it worked was after each reboot, and only then temporarily.
Agree 100%
GPS in ICS is flaky. It usually works right after reboot then it's a gamble. A few times it would work for me for a day, sometimes second run of GPS Test doesn't bring GPS icon up at all.
To make things worse, external GPS support is equally bad. I have a feeling it uses the same driver/daemon.
Obviously there's either not-so-compatible driver in kernel or the API is broken.

Try a app from the market called GPS Aids. It does help for me.

Unfortunately the "donate" version does nothing but ask for donations.
I would kick in something if it actually worked, but not on speculation.
GPS at least sort of worked with stock (whatever was on the phone when I got it used) but never at all with any CM build, including with various fixes applied. It at least sort of worked with Onecosmic's ICSSGS, at least once, maybe with some fix or other applied.
A quick update : Turns out, I need two conditions for the GPS to work:
1. The phone needs to be after a reboot, so it didn't go to deep sleep
2. Data connection (WiFi / 3G) should be enabled before you try to get a lock. Even when you use a satellite-only location! I think it downloads the satellite data from the internet. When you get a lock, the data connection can be disabled.
This is the only way I could get my GPS to work in ICS. Even in ROMs that promise the deep sleep problem was fixed.
Cyanogen never let me down, I was usually using some kernel that a worked with the ffc mod, but I literally never had a problem. Also try any miui with angry GPS

Samsung Galaxy S2 Stuck Searching for GPS

Hi,
I have a S2 and a couple months back I didn't have any problems with my GPS. Now however, whenever I open the navigation and type a location, it finds me on the map and highlights the route to take, however at the bottom of the screen it says "searching for GPS" and therefore does not starts the navigation.
I have rooted the phone last month. I am not sure if this is the problem and I don't know how to unroot the phone so I can't check if this is the problem.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Open maps first, wait for it to locate you in maps. Then exit maps and re enter navigation address and it should work

Thanks for the help. It seems to work when I open the maps first and then open the navigation later like bundi22 said.
Why is it weird like this? Is there anyway of making it work by opening the navigation straight away, instead of going onto the maps first?
im having a similar issue, 7 to 10 sats in view, no fix, happened on the last two days, before, fix was in 3~5 secs, anyone?

Hi sorry to hear that but does this issue persist across reboots? I doubt the problem is due to rooting but sometimes it can help to either wipe cache and dalvik or re-flash your rom. I have had random GPS issues on some firmware versions but for me personally DXLPB has been the best. I would start by trying small changes like wiping caches first though and save changing roms for later if this is your only issue. Also, sometimes performing a full wipe can fix small bugs like this but a full wipe can take a lot of time so let's save that for a last but possible option! Good luck with it though, I know how annoying it can be if the GPS plays up!

Are you sure you used fasterfix properly? Did it actually changed your Current Server? My one by default was set to an american/canadian one, hence why I wasn't getting any fixes. Changed it to my country and now it works like a charm .. Select your country/region and hit go and make sure the server link in Current Server updates, then use GPS Test app to test your GPS.
What rom are you guys using? I've noticed that my GPS sucks since installing XWLPM (Russia 4.04). I tried flashing back to a different modem but it didn't help. I live in Sweden. I've tested: stock XWLPG; RR with kernels: CM9 (not the last one though), Siyah 3.4.1, NEAK 2.1.1; CM9 RC2, CM9 0721.
Results:
- Instant GPS lock on stock XWLPG (blinking icon, fix within few seconds) and on RR (no blinking icon, fix within less than ten seconds) but only with Siyah and NEAK kernels. No problems whatsoever.
- Unfortunately both CM9 builds and RR with CM9 kernel gave horrible scores. It took 4-8 minutes to fix.
I find it really hard to believe that gps problems are weather-related (at least in my place).
Samsung's GPS always hard to link the satellites, it must work with A-GPS assist, you can download faster fix from google play, and assigned a agps sever near your region, that's helpful

GPS Issues Nexus 6p Android 6.0.1

Hello people!,
i need support regarding GPS fix and lock issues of my Nexus 6p. it is on latest build MHC19Q. it takes more then 25 seconds outdoors to first lock to satellites. and when i start moving on car or walk, it could not keep the lock, it starts finding satellites again and again. it was fine on any of 6.0.0 build. i tried to dig out the problem and here are my findings;
i did the factory resent through recovery. (it is not rooted)
i only installed the GPS Status app & GPS TEST app. All google apps were allowed to update. Problem remained.
I reset the fone again. Again only installed GPS Status & GPS Test app. Didn't allow google apps to update to their latest versions. My GPS is working fine. passed all the tests in flying colors. So is it google apps which is bugging the GPS? what can be done to resolve this issue.
The cell is not rooted and on stock Rom.
Thanks A Lot for all the Help

Sounds similar or the same as my issue. My GPS can't keep up while I'm driving, will just get stuck in one location for 5-10 minutes at a time, if I hold it out the window it suddenly locks again in just a couple seconds.

found one more thing, if my GPS is buggy or laggy, turning of the 3G Data will suddenly make GPS to work smoothly. Locks in less then 3 seconds while driving, Locks in Less then 2 seconds while out doors. But if i turn on the Data, GPS again stops working, lock will take almost 20-30 seconds and if i start moving, phone will lost the lock many times. But no problems at all if the 3G Data is Off. I use a app "GMD Full Screen Immersive Mode" i think this app bugs Google Map, maybe it Bugs GPS as well. i have uninstalled it and keep on searching for this behaviour
Gps.conf
You need to replace /system/etc/gps.conf by a valid configuration. Just search in Google by "Google gps.conf" (without quotes). You will need root.
Reason is that Google delivers Android with an invalid gps.conf file, for Nexus and other devices.
For best performance enter the nearest ntp servers, search Google for ntp server list.

No, gps.conf is just a text file. You can modify or replace without break root or affect system stability. It's just gps configuration.
