This question has already been asked more than once. Why not use the "search" function and follow the posting rules instead of complaining about no one rushing to this thread?
The phone hasn't even been released yet. My advice is to give it a couple of weeks (at least) and let people have a look at it to see if it can be easily unlocked or not. Otherwise, you can try to deal with the carrier (or who ever you purchase your phone from) to try and get an unlock code. You usually need to be persistent and keep trying if getting the code doesn't work at first.

I bought my s4 via att full retail, called and asked about the unlocking and they said the system says it can not be locked and no est date. Rep said it prob too early to wait a month or two.

Free unlock codes are not safe.So better you can use any paid unlock codes to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T network lock.To get unlock code visit Unlock-zone.com .Here they provide unlock code with free step by step instructions at low cost. This is safe and secure.
Qualcomm vs Exynos... We have all seen exynos is easier to unlock (note 2)...
But will the VZW GN3 get unlocked?...
Will you wait for the Developer Edition?
Please share your thoughts below.

How does one go about acquiring a developer edition?
Look at the Verizon SGS4, I would say no.

They have been dropping dev editions for the latest devices and I'm sure they will announce the dev edition note 3 a few weeks after the initial release. Check the forums and android news websites in the coming months

I would very much like someone with more knowledge than most of us combined to chime in on this topic.
Why is it an impossibility to somehow use the dev edition to assist in the unlocking of the retail edition?
The answer must be simple Or it would have been done long ago with the S4

We don't have any idea if there will be a Dev edition.

Exactly.
My personal guess would be there is no dev edition released, but I am only guessing like everyone else here.....
Im guessing there will be a dev edition ther is for the s4 why not the note 3. What has me curious is a read a thread about chip bending or binary bending which changes a chip into dev mode basically. Im only read the thread and have ben wondering this since. Plausable? What is the physical difference between dev and regular note 3

I'd be pretty confident that there will be a developer edition. My question is: will there be anything developed for it, since the main phone will most likely remain locked or, at best, be only partially unlocked? I think it's gonna be developer phones or bust for these Verizon Samsungs from now on. We should start dedicated developer phone threads.

Here's hoping they release one. I want a Note 3, but I'm at the point where I simply won't buy a phone with a locked bootloader.
Any confirmed benefits of the retail VZW GN3 vs. the Dev Edition for VZW?
Phandroid reports the developer edition website is up and says "coming soon".

It also says 32gb! This seems to be the norm for Verizon developer galaxy phones.

Only AT&T and Verizon have locked bootloader. So there's already a number of rom option. I couldn't wait and already have a n3 so I hope to hear a release schedule before I have to return this bad boy.

Are us At&t custom ROM users going to have to move on to greener pastures with this Knox bs or will someone unlock the s4, note 3, and s5 (when it comes out) bootloaders at some point? Just curious if anyone has any insight on this, cause if we can't unlock it I'm definitely moving on to another carrier, personally. Or at least I'll buy international unlocked or Google editions in the future. Thanks and f at&t and Knox!

Bootloader being locked has nothing to do with KNOX. And AT&T has already released an official statement a while back that said they plan on locking ALL carrier branded phones in the future.
I understand that they are locked. Now can you actually answer my question on whether or not someone will figure out how to unlock it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
How would someone know that? There have been Bounty threads out for awhile and no luck. If they are still active you can follow them--

They lock them to keep people from hard bricking their devices. If it stinks...buy a Nexus or GPE device
I think we have to wait a while till the s4 becomes old news. Then att will care less about it and there will be less updates and more time for someone to find a crack or leak for the bootloader unlock and the carriers will care less

I think I'll just be done with at&t then probably. It's too bad that companies won't allow you to do whatever you want with YOUR phone. That's why I never got an iPhone! I actually don't mind running stock TW but I don't want to be stuck with it forever. Thanks everyone!

Sad part is until it's paid off it not really your phone. Since they have a warranty for a year to cover issues it only makes sense. Now if they would provide an unlock after that warranty is up and the contract is settled then it would make sense.
Att will never have a unlocked device again, watch and see.....
And these are the reasons I'm going to be moving over to T-Mobile or nexus devices. Just tired of AT&T all together.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Another view:
I will stay with ATT as Verizon is too expensive and TMO in my area has sh**ty reception. ATT has been perfect for me in that area.
Also, I have been a heavy flasher for almost 4 years. The phones now are powerful enough that flashing roms is not that important to me as it once was. If I can get root with Xposed/Gravity Box/3Minit I am good. Plus there are fairly good backup apps now that Nandroiding isn't that critical.
I don't see much more coming my way, after this year, in improvements I am interested in. Something like a Note4 or S5 would be as far as I care to go.
All IMHO of course
:good:
I thought that I read somewhere on a T-Mobile thread that the latest update locked the bootloader on the S4. Was that incorrect?

I'd go to the note 3 if I swapped to T-Mobile. I'm honestly tired of the s4 and the features don't wow me anymore plus the note 3 would be better in spec wise as well.

The i337 bl was always locked but the loki-doki exploit bypassed sig check and allowed us to flash recoveries and kernels. With mf3 they closed that loophole by "blowing the Q-Fuse", whatever that is. Googled it but forgot what I read.
And now you are limited to flashing mostly TW roms <4.4. No custom recoveries/kernels.

lol ok, in that case i have no idea
In a conversation with a verizon salesman he told me this http://imgur.com/WlmNyl3
he probably doesn't know what you mean. he probably means like global unlocked.
the past few samsung devices have locked bootloaders, and verizon doesn't go around that. that, plus KNOX means the GS5 WILL have a locked bootloader, and we'll have to do some loki stuff to get around it like with the GS4/Note 3 etc
Knox has nothing to do with a locked bootloader.

Yes but isn't the whole point of Knox to be more secure? with Knox even existing, why would verizon allow an unlock able bootloader when they never did before?

That is also a Nexus phone.
The catch being Samsung and Verizon want enterprise adoption of the device, so like the S4, it will very likely be locked by same design.
No such concern with the Nexus.

That's not the point Knox is used for those secure businesses. It any way does it mean with having Knox means the bootloader is gna be locked. A bootloader can be unlocked with Knox still present but there is the Knox warranty that you would want to avoid of course.

I appreciate you sharing, but answers from a Verizon sales rep are about as meaningful as those from rolling a magic 8 ball. They very rarely have even the slightest clue as to what you are talking about. Actually since you have made the effort to visit this forum, chances are you already know more than they do.
I fully expect the VZ bootloader to come locked up tight. Hopefully we can get it unlocked as fast as the M8 did. I could care less about Knox or my warranty.

Hoping and wishing ain't going to make it happen - look no further than the VZN S4 / Note 3. If not for the loki exploit on the initial S4 release, AOSP Roms would be unavailable. Check out the Original Android Development section on the VZN Note 3.....that is most likely the future of the S5. Be happy with TW or get a Dev Edition - probably your only options.

This doesn't mean the bootloaders are unlocked. Please read the article carefully.
It clearly states, "You could find unlocked units before, but now several retailers are selling carrier-free S7 units."
All this means is that "The phones will work on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular."
Again, this is not the same as having an unlocked bootloader. Not even close.
However someone seems to have stumbled upon an engineering bootloader, so this thread may not be a fallacy for much longer!

The ones they are selling are 935F. Exynos version. If Samsung locked these never buying again. They would be stupid to do that.
These aren't 935F, their designation is U.

It works flawlessly. The only issue is the lag and WiFi password after the initial root. To fix the lag after you've just rooted you download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigeyes0x0.trickstermod and set the governor to interactive in the general menu and in the settings tab check kernal settings on set on boot. Then finally to fix WiFi you download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nathan.jf.build.prop.editor and find "ro.securestorage.support" click on it and set it to false, then *make sure you the hit check button* restart the phone and your good.
(Also to specify the issue with the WiFi passwords is that it doesn't save after a reboot. Meaning that you must re-enter the password after every reboot.)
Check out this thread please!
