Cm7.2 Battery Drain - Desire HD General

I flash CM7.2 few days ago and I'm fall in love with it
But, 5 days later, I'm not impressioned with battery life on CM7.2. It is better on stock ROM I cleared battery stats after flashing, but battery duration is not improved. CPU governor was INTERACITIVE and battery have life duration about 6-7 hours with low/medium using. Unacceptable!
Then, I change CPU governor to ONDEMAND and battery is better for a 1-2 hours. But, not better enough. 8-9 hours with medium usage is still smaller than with stock ROM (12-13 hours)
I won't to restore stock ROM, a love CM...
My dipslay have brightness around 30% (on stock was on 50% or on auto) and I thing that there is some issues with brightness in CM7.2.
Before I reboot phone, battery level was around 60%. When booted again 66%. Few minutes later, it was 60% again. That you can see on screenshot.
Every morning when I wake up, CM showing battery level for 1% smaller than 8 hours ago. But, 10-15 minutes later, it drain 10-15% battery.
I'm using stock kernel.
May someone help me to fix this?

Wipe the phone again and flash the rom again

Are you sure that reflashing will solve problem?

Did you flash another kernel ?
I'm running CM7.2 for about 4 months now, and previously RC1, RC2 and 7.1, and I'm not having any issue.
I use the interative governor (min 245, max 1024), I get at least a 12 hours battery life upon normal to heavy use.
If I don't use a lot my phone, I can get up to 36h.
I remember I tried LordModUE 8.9b7 kernel and the battery life was better and performance excellent (governor was smartassv2).

How to change kernel from stock to LordModUE?
Thanks

1. Download the last available kernel : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085725 or directly : http://blackice.omca.co.uk/download...ger-kernels/lordmodUEv8.9-CFS-b7-2WCR-TUN.zip
2. Put the zip on your sdcard
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Make a nandroid backup !!
5. Flash the kernel
6. Reboot and enjoy
EDIT: another good thing is to use currentwidget (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget&hl=fr), do a full charge until you reach 0mA, then reboot into recovery, wipe your battery stats, let your phone reach 0mA again, then unplug your phone. This should fully reset your battery, and let your ROM properly calibrate it.
Thanks to that post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226016

I installed Kernel from your link but in about phone menu, there is version:
2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod-g295e82f
[email protected] #1
Is this correct?
EDIT: After flashing, my Wi Fi not work... There is ERROR when open Wireless & Networks...
EDIT2: I reflashed kernel, wipe/factory, wipe cache, but i cant start Wi fi
What to do?

Reflash the rom, after wipe/factory.

Yes.
I was on CM7.2 a few weeks ago. I got pretty good battery life. About 2 full days.
I only used 2G & WiFi.

One thing you have to know about flashing a new kernel is that you absolutely need to first boot the ROM with its original kernel first !
As you seem to have many problems, you should:
- full wipe/factory reset, reformat everything except your sdcard
- check the md5sum of the zip (rom especially) on your sdcard
- be sure your battery is fully charged
- flash the rom
- boot it, do not link with your google account
- let your battery charge again
- wait a few minutes
- unplug your phone and reboot
- link your google account
- test if you still have a battery drain but do not install any application, as some of them could cause your battery issue
- make a nandroid backup
- flash the other kernel if needed
- restest battery draining
Hope it'll help !

I did all what you write to me. Now, i testing battery life.

If you're still having battery drain after following all the useful tips you were giving, it's a possibility it could be the battery it self. You may want to try a different battery to see if you get better results.

It's not possible because it works good on stock rom 6 days ago...

My Inspire has CM7 right now and the battery life is great, so I don't know why you're having issues then.

Sorry, just lurking. Do you have a GB radio? I've found that running an ICS radio w/ CM7 causes overheating & major battery drain on some devices.
BTW I know nothing about your device.

Did you change to a bright screen background or do anything differently?
Batteries can go bad fairly quickly.
You could always reflash. Sometimes a fresh wipe is nice (no pun intended)

Battery life on custom roms

Hey guys im keen to know your experiences with the various custom roms out there.. I have flashed villianrom today as my first custom along with various kernals but have had constant drain issues..
Looking at my battery awake stats it seems as if it never sleeps :-(

Screenshots showing battery usage and more importantly screen on time.
I don't have Villian ROM but from reading the comments on thst thread this is one of the best as regards battery drain so im amazed you experience high drain.
I run Cognition and am happy with this.

You can see it just gettin eaten away screen off doesnt stop drain note the awake vs.screentime i have tried 4 kernals to no avail

Put on watchdog and let it run in the back ground and see if it's any app or widget misbehaving.
Thanks trying now

Just read in another thread that having motion sensor enabled causes this.
In my case ... Absolutely confirmed!

I was on Villain too,1.4 to be exact...drains as well, now on Litening 2.2,after resetting batt stats, best so far screen on time almost 5 hours, using mostly wifi..but with 3G,I get around 4hr 30mins...I usually leave my wifi on all the time at home, and switch on data only when I leave...
literom 2.2 doubled my battery life (no exageration) coming from stock rom. impressive.

Some extended idling:
Cognition 1.13 with CF KG1 Kernel, Phone undervolted as in screenshot + GPU @ 750mV for both states.
Android OS still taking 1h15m CPU time in that screenshot, which, in my experience in this case is I *think* because of Skype running all the time there. Also Trillian connected to multiple services running constantly with Wifi.
I'm using Cognition 1.15 with modified 1.4 ninmphetamine kernel, very good battery life so far! (probably the best compared to villainrom and litening rom for me)
Having fixed my awake issue my battery life is reasonable but i expected betted with villainrom + nenphetamine custom + undervolt.
We need to guage some good comparisons id like to get an extended idle test dont know if i can leave my phone for that long. LOL
Btw How did you undervolt gpu?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I would stay away from these newer kernels like Nephetamine until they actually mature. I alslo tried some other custom kernels and they kinda drained the battery way more. So I'm sticking to a plain kernel like CF for the moment. Also seems better to stick to the normal ondemand governor.
Undervolting GPU via Tegrak Ultimate, it's worth it imho, especially since I basically shaved off 25% voltage without any issues.

Sense 3.0 rom with best battery life

I am far from a noob, its just that I have been on aosp roms for months now. I have been checking out these new 3.0 roms but I never see information on battery life. I was on stock OTA GB for about a month while I wasn't able to root, and my battery life was about 6 hours with constant lowest brightness display (that is, without the display turning off during that time). I could manage about 12 hours of minimal use.
I'm now on Synergy RLS1, and I have not noticed any improvement. I've done battery calibration and conditioning and nothing's changed.
I'm using the stock battery. I have a 3500mAh battery that doesn't seem to live much longer, but I haven't used it since I've rooted.

I'm using aggressive Freedom v0.8.5. That's my battery life after 5 or 6 cycles. I don't know what the problem is either. I've seen other people with good battery life with the same ROM and kernel. Even had it underclocked.
I'm going to try CM7 and see if there's any sort of improvement.

I got the phone new from Sprint just a little over a month ago. I flashed it along with the rom, so I wiped it including cache and dalvik cache.
I bought the extended battery about a week after thinking that my original battery may have been defective and that it would be nice to have a longer lifetime, but it only doubled (which isn't drastic considering how short it lasts with the stock battery).

I dont think that my rom is 3.0,i believe its 2.1but I may be wrong.anyway, that said,im running Synergy RC2 with godmode.ive noticed an inbelieveable change in battery life.i had about 92% like 9 hours ago, im at 76% now and thats with using a few apps when I woke up.godmode utilizes a hybrid filesystem witg Yaffs2 and EXT.im still learning about it,but I guess using this hybrid FS makes performance.phenominal.ive seen an amazingg improvement in battery life.im using the stock battery as well.it comes with a stock kernel,so im not under or overclocking.
Evo 4G Synergy RC2
Using EVOlved with golden monkey and getting a good 15-18 hrs of moderate use on 3g
Thanks to both of you. Last night I flashed Synergy 3.0 with Freedom. I'm on 60% after about 11 hours. Most of which the phone was sleeping.

I'm new to the forums, new to EVO - coming from iphone 4, I must say.. have tried atleast 15 different roms, all of which drastically suck the life out of my battery.. gingerbread evo deck definitely seemed to be the best for my battery life.. I'm trying MikG right now and it seems hideous, love how it runs/looks but going from 100-80% battery, in less than 20minutes is not good. All i've been doing is browsing tapatalk forums.
Not sure what I've been doing wrong, I do ofcourse do a complete wipe between rom changes. Wipe cache, dalvik, data, and run superwipe vr - using armon latest. ( think that's what it is called lol)
Im running synergy rls1 with Freedom 0.8.5 morefreedom version and getting a good 16 hrs of moderate use. Also have carasoul 3.0 rosie so it might take it down a little bit.

How else can I get battery to original state?

Like others in the forum have mentioned, there is a very serious bug that causes the phone to just turn off when something more power intensive is turned on (especially mobile data).
I'm fairly sure my battery still holds a lot of charge after my phone turns off, and I'm getting poor battery life because of that. Changing back to old roms doesn't fix it, but I don't want to buy a new battery because I think this one should still be healthy.
So, my question is, what can I do? Is there anything else I should wipe besides batterystats.bin? Something a reflash or data/cache wipe doesn't remove? I tried to fully discharge the battery, but the phone always turns off much before it's empty.
Also, how can I be sure this bug wouldn't affect my new battery, if I were to buy a new one?
Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

For better battery backup, I recommend you to flash "Fugumod" kernel v2.4 Beta 3 (Flash standard edition if 800mhz version causes lag). I have tested the battery life and I got 5-6 days backup (Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS is on)

Thing is, I'm not getting bad battery backup. It's more like the phone just turns off if I actually try to use it. With mobile data on and to some extent wifi it just turns off in minutes or seconds. A full charge lasts for 2 hours or less with 3G on. I've tried other roms and kernels, including stock, but nothing fixed it.
For example, is there an app/method to prevent the phone from shutting down, only allowing a"hardware" shutdown? I mean only when the battery reached a critical voltage and stopped discharging for safety reasons, or something. Maybe that way I could properly calibrate it.

To callibrate battery..first completely drain the battery to about 5%, then charge the phone non stop without disturbing it till 100% and immediately remove the charger..again fully drain the battery and follow the above steps and u will get better battery life after a few cycles!
About roms..battery life does differ from rom to rom...i suggest u could check the custom kernels packed with zzmoove governor, ithat particular governor definitely improves the battery backup!
And in the above post es file explorer is eating ur battery..for that u should download greenify and hibernate apps continuously running in background!
great. I will follow your steps. one more thing. how can I know if the battery is still good or if its still holding the proper charge its suppose to have? thanks

I use the 2000mAh battery is primary battery.. no big surprise to expect here, capacity is just 21% more by construction...
With wifi on, JB burns in my case about 3% in IDLE.. stock kernel.. and about 5% in 3G mode, IDLE.. then battery drains more or less fast depending on screen on, phone calls etc. I use the phone extensively for work (email sync & replies, phone calls, sms and voip) and i have to topup the battery twice or trice a day!
Have tried various custom kernels with all sort of magic to reduce battery drain.. more or less effectively.. sometimes with less stability.
Right now trying out latest dorimanx 8.27.. seems thatn IDLE with WIFI on drains around 2% per hour.. better than stock.. still not quite awesome
I miss the GB battery life.. but JB is so beautiful in comparison, I cannot go back!

Does Jb stock for you has better life or does custom rom have more? I really like the custom roms but as per observation stock rom offers more battery time. Right now I just reverted to stock rom i9100xwlss. Touchwiz really sucks. Supernexus is really beautiful but offers less battery (but I will have to try yet their latest build). Also one of the reasons for going back to stock is the camera shot quality. Custom roms really have poor camera quality. I guess when it comes to lowlight shots the stock roms are best. So much for that. Does stock rom offer more battry for you or custom rom does?

Below is a reply in some other forum by Samsung offcials regarding a specific method to Hard-Reboot your phone after a Firmware update: This method particularly helped me improve the battery life on SGS2 after 4.1.2 update.
"1. I’m sorry you are having issues with your device after upgrading the firmware. I can understand your frustration about this.
Old systems settings can be left on the phone after an update occurs, which is why we usually recommend a full factory reset after updating. If this isn’t done your device may begin to give false readings from system resources, or experience technical problems, which may explain the issue you are having.
We would advise on doing the following, which is designed to reset the settings on your device. Please back up your device using Samsung KIES before you do this.
1) Remove the battery for at least 40 minutes, put the battery back in and allow it to fully discharge. Afterwards, perform a full battery charge with the device turned off. Do not interrupt the charging process.
2) After the battery is fully charged, we would like you to perform a full factory reset, which can be done via Settings > Backup > Reset.
This process will reset your device, remove old system files that are no longer needed and enable your device to operate normally again.
Please let us know if your device continues to experience problems after the reset so we can investigate further.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Stewart

Actually I only use stock JB.. and trying to get it last longer with some custom kernels.. recently trying snapdragon rom, which is stock JB as well but with some S4 apk made compatible with S2... tried some time back omega, vanila rootbox and some other android builds for s2.. but was facing few stability issues / bugs and also missed some features that i was getting from stock rom.. so i gave up with these... now just aiming at stability and if possible battery endurance.. but not at the cost of stability.

[Q] What's a relatively stable ROM to replace CM7.2?

I currently have CM7.2 on my MB525.
There seem to be a billion options out there. What's are relatively stable ROMs of newer versions of Android for Defy?
I don't mind a few bugs as long as the basic functionality (GPS, Phone, Camera) works fine.
Thanks
4.1.2
I tryed some 4.1.2 and they seems to be stable. Except my latest try with slimrom that have nonworking wifi tethering and the one before this had broken pitch sensor.
Try illusion 2.1,its based on 4.2.2,
Very stable,
Or try xperia d 4.1, based on 4.1.2,
Much stable

i'm sticking to epsylon's cm9.1 for now, at least until and unless they fix the problem with the "android os" battery draining issue.....
Well I'm not experiencing any battery drain even though system settings show android os as the main consumer. I get 1-2 days of battery life with android os as the top consumer.

well fortunate for you,but unfortunately not the same for me. when i left my phone overnight for about 10hrs with everything off (wifi, gps, sync, data) and only with mobile phone radio on (for phone call), i got the following results (as best as i could remember from memory):
1. epsylon's cm9.1 - about 0.4 to 0.5 % /hr battery drop. battery settings shows roughly:
phone idle 54%
phone standby 40%
android os 4%
note: now this is what i expected for a phone that is on "real" idle/standby!
2. quarx's cm10 (4.1.2) - about 1.1 % /hr battery drop. battery settings shows something like:
android os 60 to 70 %
screen 20 to 30 %
follows by phone idles and others.
note: i know i quoted about 2% drop in one of my previous post at quarx's cm10 thread, but i've edited that to say it was because the battery calibration was way out (after flashing cm10 about 10 times trying out every possible ways like different gapps, settings, wiping etc). i did use bbs (better battery stat) apk but it was too complicated for me to decifer, so i didn't bother.
edit: not only android os obviously indicating that something keep waking up to do something but possibly flashing the screen as well? i mean how could the screen percentage be 20-30% when the phone is just sitting there with screen off for 10 hrs??? unfortunately no one seems to care!!!
I think I know your problem. Android OS must be keeping your phone awake. Happens to me sometimes. Toggling Airplane mode on and off, or a reboot usually fixes it. Also using defy full wiper when starting is advisable.
Edit - I think you should test CM10 once more. I normally get 0.3-0.4% per hour on standby.

I'm testing the latest version by MarcinRN. It's surprising because my battery is almost 2 years old now.:cyclops:
EDIT - Test it out, and give BBS stats after 2-3 days. Also, restore all your apps, because some app might be rogue.

i'm back. thanks for encouraging me to try it again. don't know what i've done different this time but the latest 20130918 version is now giving me 0.55-0.60%/hr battery consumption and following stats:
android os 70%
cell standby 23%
phone idle 8%
well i'm happy with that since gingerbread was giving me about 0.7%/hr anyway. if they could fix the android os problem we might be able to get the same consumption as cm9.1 though.
details of how i flash the rom this time:
1. wipe/format the phone with defy_fullwipe_ext4.zip (proper wipe/format).
2. flash 20130918 rom.
3. flash cwm_twrp-forjellybeanroms-v2-signed.zip (for safety).
4. wipe cache and dalvik.
5. reboot. (want to test rom without gapps first).
6. switched of all signals (data, gps, sync, bluetooth and wifi) except phone radio.
7. toggle airplane mode.
8. reboot into recovery and wipe battery stat.
9. reboot phone with charger in.
10. charge phone to 100% and left the phone on standby overnight (about 10hrs)
11. checked battery stat in the morning and got about 0.55% /hr.
12. reset all settings to my liking, fresh install all apps i used, switch baseband to my region and reboot.
13. flashed tjkv's minimal gapps and reboot.
14 checked battery % before putting phone on standby for another 10hrs. got about 0.58%/hr this time. very happy
thanks again hotdog125. and my apology to the op for taking up your space. hope you found your perfect rom.
