Hi,
Is there a mod out there that is best suited for a T mobile G2? It would be nice to know the Android 4.0 mods that work best for it.
Also, I frequently use the T-Mobile Wifi Calling app to place calls over my wifi connection. Is there a way to make this app work? I have it downloaded, but it doesn't seem to work. Has anyone out there got this working?
Thanks
ummm, so you are looking to chang to android 4.0 and have the ability to use wifi calling over the tmobile network?
if you are rooted than good
flash either mimicry or elitemod ics
make sure to have the .19 radio (look @ edkeys page for help with this, as he also has updated libs as well as some info on the wifi calling)
if your not rooted then you got a lot more work ahead of you

Hi,
This is exactly what I'm looking for. Can you confirm if I've come across the right mods for my purposes?
mimicry: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/28412-romjuly-27-andromadus-mimicry-v131-ics-cm9-rc2/
elitemod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700436
? Have I found the right roms? If so, which one seems the more popular out of the above?
and is this the edkeys guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664106
Does the guide work for both mods or just mimicry?
Thanks
yes those will all work
and mimicry also has a thread here on xda fyi
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Just remember that there's a bug in mimicry 1.3.1 right now (more a bug in the aroma installer but still...). Where it doesn't correctly install the kernel if you select wifi calling.
So what you have to do to make it work, is to install it without wifi calling, then re-run the zip again and install it with wifi calling.
With elitemod, you just simply flash the tmobile wifi calling zip after installing eitemod.
That makes sense. Mimicry worked for me even though I didn't see your cautionary post.
I do have a question. I already had an ICS mod on my phone before I installed mimicry. It seems doing that kind of 'upgraded' my phone instead of freshly installing mimicry. All my apps, sms, data, etc. are all still there. How can I do a clean install? I am using the bootloader rom manager. I'm still new rooting/mods so pardon my newb-like question.
Thanks!!!
there are a few ways, the cleanest wipe is fastboot -w
the next best is a superwipe script that also reformats system/data/cache
the next best is to boot into recovery and wipe everything down the line
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Thanks!
Will any of these methods remove my bootloader/rom manager with which I will install my new ICS?
How does one do a fastboot -w? You boot into the fastboot and do a -w script? I googled and couldn't find much.
yes you just boot into fastboot and type fastboot devices, if you see yours the type fastboot -w
it will not change yourbootloader, none of these methods will, any wipe will erase the os so rom manager will be gone but your recovery will stay intact, so when you flash your new os you will have to install rom manager from the market again if it doesn't come with the rom (if you have paid version it will not have to be paid for again)
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I'm assuming I need to connect my phone to my computer in usb debugging mode to type in the fastboot commands? as there isn't a terminal when I boot the phone in fastboot?
Cheers
correct, and when you open cmd it has to be pointed to fastboot.exe

Thanks! That helped and the phone is awesome now.

Hi all neva flashed a custom rom before and was hoping to try so my question is can I flash a rom directly using my phone without the need to use a pc atall any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Principially yes, but I would not(!) recommend it. Especially installing a new recovery.img and/or radio.img is more save using fastboot, which needs a pc.

wierd u mention that, i used the phone to flash radio.img. through the recovery console. cant remember the commands tho
Id like to try and I have a spare g1 to try it on first its just the guides are a bit hard for me to follow
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
Yes you can flash the radio.img using an update.zip file and flash it through recovery, but this in certain circumstances may cause a brick. Using fastboot is more save.
I get what ur saying m8 hence the reason id try it on my spare g1 it would just be easier for me as couldn't even get adb working before lol I'm useless
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
toon, how about working out why ADB doesn't work? it's much more pleasant to be able to copy/paste commands which reduces alot of headache and chance of mistakes.
do you have a computer and data cable?
Yeah I do m8 tho gonna need some help

Well I gave it a whirl using rom manager and flashed cm 5 and it seemed to work ok but when it booted up it hung on the g1 screen so ended flash back my recovery backup

Hi guys, sorry if it is a stupid question, but am I okay to flash the stock recovery while I'm running cm7?
My battery life is horrible so I just want to try the work around that involves charging while the phone is off and we know cwm recovery doesn't work like that right now.
I would flash back to cwm 3 afterwards.

Here's a link to one of TrueBlue_Drew's =bazillion= answers to this question. His method allows you to have two versions of CW Recovery available via the Rom Manager. Since the Rom Manager does not support CW Recovery 3.x, that version is stored as "2.5.1.4". With CW 3, ROM Manager is used only for going back and forth between CW 2 and 3.
Hope this helps.

I've actually talked to TrueBlue and I came up with the idea of making the oemrecovery and renaming it, recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1. He is supposed to be updating his guide here shortly but I just spoke with him regarding this last night.
Basically, download the oemrecovery, go to the clockwork folder on your sdcard and go clockworkmod>download>koush.tandgaming.com>recoveries. Drop the oemrecovery into that spot on the sdcard and rename it EXACTLY recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1. Once that's done you can now go into rommanager scroll down to all clockworkmod recoveries and choose 2.5.1.1. That is now your stock recovery. you can reboot into the stock recovery, and keep the phone off to charge it. Once done, reboot the phone, go back to rommanager and click 2.5.1.4 and that will give you cwm3.xxx back. If this helps you, please hit the thanks button!
Thanks. Sorry for posting in the wrong section.
I'm aware I can flash back to 2.5.1.2, but for some reason I recall that this also went into recovery when charged. I'm probably wrong about that though .
amac, that sounds like a very elegant solution. I'll have too give that a shot.
I was really mostly concerned that not having 3.x would somehow affect the cm7 installation. But im guessing it should not and only affects ability to flash the rom.
Thanks again all. And for bearing with my ignorance!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Well i just checked, and 2.5.1.2 still turns on the phone when charging while powered off.
I've looked around but can't find it, is there a flashable stock recovery for the MT4G somewhere? I know there's an image posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289 but this one isn't flashable. But i guess i could still manage if there isn't one out there.
Thanks again everyone.
use the oemrecovery file found on page 118 of the cm6 thread. It was posted by phateless. Sorry I would link it but the xda app doesn't let you do that.

I've been looking for Tmobile wifi calling app that is compatible with Virtuous Unity ROMs. I found this patch in the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15293933&highlight=unity-glacier-v1.26.1b-wifi-calling-MDJ#post15293933
However after flashing the zip into VU 1.29/31 (full-wiped installation) my cell phone radio just died due to SIM card error... The Tmo wifi app wasn't activated as well because it requires reading the SIM card... I kept looking for two days but only got some patches for kernels prior to the release of 1.29, which I think is dated.
Can anyone provide the right apk or flashable zip files (with links to the OPs)? Thanks.
I'm not sure what your issue is. VU comes with the T-Mobile WiFi Calling app and it works great out of the box.
I supposed the wifi calling app is build in the VU, too! But I've never seen one in these two versions... I downloaded them from Virtuous official site and did full wipes when installing. What could be wrong?
If it is included in the VU, how can I extract the app and install it manually?
--My Touch4G on TMOUS, running on Virtuous Unity 1.31.0
Sorry man, have absolutely no idea what you're exactly referring to. The TMO Wifi calling app is built in, it should be in your app drawer. I see it every time.
I just did a full wipe from recovery and reinstalled 1.31 again. There is no WiFi calling app in my drawer I swear... Am I the only person having this issue?
Thanks for your reply anyway!

Are you downloading the ROM from the official source and verifying the MD5 before flashing?

Yes I verified the md5 on right on the SD card: f50ca157513387db244b927a9db4e4a3 -- correct
I only do fresh, full-wipe (data, cache and dalvik) installations but never seen the app in previous 3 or 4 attempts.
Is there any log of installation that may be helpful?
Did you wipe /system? Is your phone compatible with WiFi calling? (Virtuous Unity supports different phones with the same ROM file, some users randomly go posting in other forums).l are you on T-Mobile? Have you already connected to wifi with the random "Did you know" popup appearing?
Yes this is a MT4G on TmoUS. I had been using WiFi calling on the stock froyo until I started to flash VU 1.29/31 last week. Every flash ever since is after a full wipe.
I have never seen the "Did you know?" thing after fresh flashes of VU. However after flashing the patch in my OP it shows up at boot.
But it is not working for the reason said.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Just in case you have any doubt, the following is EXACTLY how I flashed the VU 1.31.
Verified:
1. It is a MT4G or HTC Glacier (the VU installation script also recognized it)
2. I'm on Tmobile US and have used wifi calling before.
3. md5 checked on SD card same as official release.
Procedure:
1. Reboot into CWM recovery 3.0.2.4 from the power option in a running VU 1.31.
2. -backup and restore -> Backup
3. -wipe data/factory reset
4. -wipe cache partition
5. mounts and storage -> format /system
6. advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
7. install zip from sdcard -> virtuous_unity-v1.31.0.zip
Results:
1. No "Do you know your phone can make calls over wifi..." pop-ups on boot.
2. No wifi calling app in my drawer. <pic>
Thanks for all your responses. I think I want to give up at this point. Maybe submit a bug report. Too many flashes in a day... tired.
With the details you provided, I see no reason why WiFi calling shouldn't show up. It's a mystery to me at this point.
Yeah its not only a mystery but frustration to me.. Is there a log file of the installation to track down the problem? I took a shot of the messages from the installer but it looks okay.
I would try reporting it in the bug tracker or contact the devs direcetly via PM or Twitter.
When I saw the port for ICS come out I got really excited and flashed it right away. Then I realized for whatever reason I didnt have SU permissions so I couldn't tether to my computer. I was disappointed but I thought, "no biggie, I'll just restore from my back up." When I flashed my back up the SU app was in my app drawer but I still couldn't tether. As a matter of fact I can't do anything that requires SU but the bootloader still reads unlocked. WTF?
I can't flash a new recovery either. I tried installing from ROM manager, I tried pushing it from my computer but I can't get to the recovery any more. ROM manager says that I have CWM 5.0.2.0 currently installed but I can't get to it at all. Again, WTF?

^clearly the phone is working perfectly fine with the stock ROM from the back up but obviously I want my SU back.

Thanks for not answering my questions. The bootloader is unlocked but I don't have root and I don't have access to recovery mode even tho ROM Manager says I have Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.0 currently installed. I cannot access the recovery mode AT ALL. I cannot flash or push a new recovery but it fully boots into Gingerbread w/o any issues. What is wrong with my phone and how do I fix it.

Try from rom manager to reinstall a previous recovery version.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA App
That doesn't work either. It goes through the prompts but it doesn't actually reboot do the installation.
I just tried unrooting and then re - rooting but that didn't work and I think that actually wiped my phone completely. I don't even know where an SD card would get into this thing.

No suggestions have worked so far. It does not matter what the recovery image name is, whenever I try the flash it Terminal says that it cannot load "***.img" or if I try an install command it says that it cannot find "***.zip" I'm on a snow leopard iMac so I don't need drivers n such.
Let me pose the question like this, what would I do to completely restore the phone to factory condition and try to root it again? Like I said before, the bootloader says that it is unlocked but I do not have any root privileges, could not access the recovery I had before nor install a new recovery after having locked the unlocked the phone's bootloader again.

go to the link above and follow the directions for returning to stock.
find yourself a one-click root method on XDA that includes superuser, busybox, and CWM.
EDIT: Also, double check the md5 sum for the CWM .zip. use
Code:
md5 recovery-aaaaaa.img
in the terminal and make sure the output matches whatever is given on the CWM site. if they dont have one up, ask for it
NS4g one-click root app:

this will:
unlock the bootloader
install cwm 5.0.2.0
root
No commands, no messing with pushing files manually, etc. This thing has already saved me from major headaches while restoring my phone once and I've only had it for 3 weeks lol

I missed that...my mistake
I have read some articles on here about this but my problem is slightly different. My ROM works fine but when I select to put my phone into recovery mode the fastboot mode text comes up I power my device off and it starts back up in cm 10.2. Since these seems to be a little different than others problems I've read on here I've been hesitant to try any of the solutions. And if it requires me to use a computer I only have access to a mac
So, install Windows on it... or run a live version. Or VM one.

Are you trying to reboot through the Rom our another app like titanium? Some if the root apps cab tell you if you have a recovery. Maybe the recovery is messed up so it forces to fastboot. Just my thoughts, no expert.

I am using ROM manager. thats what the problem is im pretty sure is the recovery is messed up. I don't know how to fix it.
Get flashify. Flash twrp or cwm recovery per your variant. They are posted around here on forums. Never flash anything again with ROM manager. It is what blew your recovery. You're lucky your ROM even works.
Didn't know that about Rom manager. Is it just because of our g2 or compatibility with the recovery?

I'm not sure, I just know it cant flash them right. Never looked into it. Could be due to boot loader problems, partitions, ect. Probably something simple.
