TOUCH CALLER - with the rotating cube inside ;)

Hey xda-developers family
i have found a new program in a french forum, it is called TOUCH CALLER and i'd like to show it to you, because i think this is a great app which has to be modified a little bit so it will become very popular
please write down what you think about it

i know this is what i think too. i really like the app, hope i can modify it so it looks much better, best would be in the grey/black colors

i never liked it f**k the iphone ^^
but as you can see in the animated screenshot you can chose an own background picture. but anyways there are some things that i do not like either ... will try to change them

There's something strange, here...
... look at the clock when the cube rotates.

Has anyone actually tried it, does not seem to work, at startup it gave me an error in English/French (Can't initialise Direct3D - Les animations seront deactiviees - PECaller TouchCaller V1.0.4) then loaded but scrolling does not work right and cube does not work at all.
So how is it possible to enable Direct3D or is my phone not capable of this, maybe another program?/
It shows you need DirectX compatibility, how do we enable this or know if our device has it?

hmpf havent tried it, will give it a try this evening when i'm home from work. i only copped this file from a forum which is from france, do not know this language so i can not read what stands there about troubleshooting.
maybe someone can translate into english, this would be n1ce

Thats most probably because that animated GIF image was created by a series of screen grabs taken over a few minutes.

something is weird here: the first file is only 97k, is that right? when i extract it, there is nothing to extract.
the second file is 907 bytes, can't be right.

yes this is right, dont know why but it is that way, got the two files from this france forum i told y'all in the first post

i just made the english language xml file for this app, dont know if i translated everything right, but nearly if you want to change something open the xml file with the editor and search for the command that isn't translated right......

today night i will give it a try to unpack the cab file and change more things to give it the htc black theme

You can use a program called 'Picture Merge Genius' to do this sort of thing

Yep, images lose details when fitted to wallpaper... it's a pity

To lose the least amount of details what I do is, re-size the image I want to use to 384x512 pixels then save it as high quality jpeg file. Then I rename the file to HomeBackground.img. Afterwards making sure there is already a custom wallpaper in use on tf3d, I copy the HomeBackground.img file to windows folder overwriting the existing file. Then to get the new wallpaper displayed I disable and re-enable tf3d.
The process is kind of long but I find it helps in preserving some quality.

Why is wallpaper ugly ?

Why is blackstone making homescreen wallpaper so ugly ? If you dont know what I´m talking about, put something as your wallpaper,then go to album, look on the same pic and swap to homescreen. And it happens ever if the picture is 800*480 . The difference is so big.
Can XDA solve this problem ?

How does the picture look like after the procedure you described?
Is it very light?
If yes, then try to take a picture to the homescreen by using the programm "Pictures&Videos" (its preinstalled on my german HD and named "Bilder&Videos")
There you can adjust the otransparency of the picture. Take it to 0% and the picture looks original on the homescreen.

the lightning is the same, but the quality of the background is very low.
i hope someone can make a fix for this.
I don't understand why HTC thought of something like this? why making the background so ugly if you got such a nice 800*480 screen??!!

The difference looks like the original is 50kb and on homescreen its like 20kb resized jpg sh*t . Nothing about light, its just low quality.

maybe u save it wrong.. i think it must be 72 dpi for everything on the phone. same problem occures if u look at the polaroid style contact facorites.. they are blurred as! 256x256 @ 72 dpi (like described in another thread) works brilliant.
dont know if thats what u meant my ur problem...

Yes I want... But I dont know how to check my DPI at pictures... And how to change it...

edit2: I changed DPI to 72 (which little destroyed quality) but it doesnt help !

Are you using jpg images? When I changed from jpg to png images for contacts they looked a lot better. Maybe the software engineers didn't build in an "optimisation" feature for png images so they are displayed in their native quality.

72DPI or 100DPI , jpg or png , it doesnt care. it is still ugly.

Do you know where the wallpaper is saved? maybe you can just replace the file munually . replace the low quality file with the high quality original file

definitely the qulity of the pic was reduced,,,i have the same problem, set a 24bit 1200x720 bmp as background, but its actually displayed just like a 8-bit image and resized to 800x480 or even samller

I just dont understand why no one does something with it. I think it is serious problem... And everyone has it. People on XDA modes and changes whole system and cant set wallpaper without quality reducing ?

What you need to do is to resize the picture to 800x480 on your pc , or use the cutter in the image program on your HD. That way you will get the right resolution.

It is 800x480 ! it doesnt matter, its still fuc*ed up on homescreen !

Is there a way to get it to save to storage card?
I did a search of the registry and not sure if one of those is it.
They're all install path's that I found, so I don't think they are.
Is it in the exe itself?
Edit: Maybe a future addition: add a way to choose your own location the pics save at.
But I love this app! Thanks for this!!

I am able to take a screen shot and then I go to the file and click on the picture file and press copy.
I then go to a forum and when I want to paste the screenshot, I get a select all pop up, and not a paste pop up.
My question is how do I paste the screenshot within the text I am typing?

Contact picture blur problem (solved) (pics updated 27 Dec)

I've read many threads for this reason with no appropriate answer.

Because I can't upload in this forum
If you are using google sync , u need to transfer contacts to phone memory.
I just discovered how to apply HQ contact pics as shown in some SE website photos.
At first , it could be done by editing contacts from SE sync service which is no longer available.
So, the alternate solution is a pc software named mobiledit. You can set full screen photos as your contact pic.
Edit: I found that the pic shows best in the timescape app but it doesn't appear/ appears after sometime in Timescape widget , probably 'coz it cannot load the oversized pic. But you can resize the pic to low res and then set it.

The Best Part about this is, The Image is actually saved in the VCF file (Contact Card), So you dont have to keep it in the Phone memory. Earlier days, You had to keep the Photo in Phone memory, and It shows up in the gallery as well. Those days are gone it seems.
Even when browsing through the contacts, The image is displayed vividly across the header.
So, What is the Correct Image Size for a Contact Picture ?
Its -> 3264 x 1990 (pixels). Resize Any Image of your choice, and Transfer it to the SD card. Open the Contacts Application and Browse for the Image using the Gallery or a File Explorer. Once You add the Image, You can delete it from the memory.

See second last post on 1st page of this PlayStation thread by me.
U have to download full mobiledit and then connect ur phone. Go to contacts in mobiledit , double click on a contact, click change photo and select any photo. See title bar , click on write. Ur done!!
To check perfect full screen res, goto above link
