Hello,
I bought Nexus 7 one week ago. There is one thing I'm concerned about. We can use WiFi in three different mode during sleep. ('keep WiFi on during sleep' option)
Always connected
Only when plugged in
Never
In mine, Always is selected and it should be always connected. But, after connecting WiFi network at home, one or two hours later WiFi icon turns into Gray (normally should be blue) and none of application which are using internet are not working..
Could be the router issue.. Any idea? Is there anyone experiences the same issue?

thought blue was when connected to google services so may not be on all the time
Yeah, I agree with you, but why other applications (for instance, chrome, RSS reader etc) is not working..
If I switch off WiFi and turn it on again, than it works..

That was my impression too... blue for Google services... my n7 and gnex both do that too... but whens its grey the internet still works (for me at least lol)... I've actually tested it before on my gnex... opened gmail app and it immediately went blue...
It has to do with the date

Check the date on your nexus device. It would be reset to 1999 or 2000 or something. Just change the date and that should fix the issue...y2k all over again!??!?!?!
I had an issue where it would drop every couple minutes it seemed. Showed bars, just nothing worked.
This came after the ota 4.1.1 update. Factory reset fixed it for me. Luckily I had the issue before I'd really done any setup.

Factory reset plus downgrading from 4.2.2 to 4.2.0 was the only thing that worked for me.

Ever since I downloaded gingerbread I have noticed (and I know I'm not alone) a wifi freeze that would occur everytime my screen would turn off. I've tried countless factory resets, reflashing recoveries, and apps like wifi reassociate and nothing seemed to work. When I reset my phone it would seem fine till I uploaded my go launcher app . Since then it wouldn't work, so I tried uninstalling it and vuala it works again and flawlessly might I add. I use the wifi off Wm screen is off feature in advanced settings and once I turn on the screen within 5 seconds the wifi is on again as well. Hopefully this is a fix for others as well..

sorry but just to clarify, are you saying that wifi freezes with go launcher only?
because I think that many users here are using launchers that differ from go launcher and yet they are facing this issue.
btw I am using stock 407 since a week and never once the wifi froze (touch wood!)
What I've noticed is that when WiFi stops working after the Dell Streak has been on standby for a while is that if I switch the device to Airplane Mode, then off Airplane Mode, it works properly, till it's been on standby for ages again. Small annoying glitch, but I deal with it.
It never freezes while in active use.

I'm using DSC 0.66b with Phoenix kernel and also noticed a problem with Wi-Fi freeze, but I fixed it by simply going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi Settings > Advanced and changing Wi-Fi sleep policy to never and then letting Green Power app to manage my Wi-Fi. Good enough for me, maybe this will be useful to someone else as well. Cheers.

I have tried 'wifi fixer' but it's not working for me...Can one please explain what is causing the problem actually? Is it caused by device or OS
Tried it, but after a few days uninstalled

The first few days it worked. But after awhile Wifi Fixer started giving me issues, specially using 100% of the CPU. I unistalled it. I couldn't take my Streak being slow.
The same thing was happening for me also. However, the problem went away after I re-flashed the 407 recovery and installed the Olleh ROM again on my streak. Fingers crossed !!
I was able to fix my wifi problems by setting up a static IP on the phone and router. I have a detailed post in the DSC Rom thread...

I've noticed a lot that with 407 the wifi shows as connected, but won't work until I turn wifi off and on again.
I hope this helps
I was looking into this WiFi freeze and ran into the XDA's crew. Is it possible to have mobile data working perfectly? I can't locate my sim card I believe its built in. My WiFi is set to off. My router will resume network if I turn wifi back on. The weird thing is. I have no data plan on this phone, its been down for years. I was shocked but it didn't help with the freezing, it was if I turned WiFi back on. Then the old Vibrate, Stall.ing, vibe one more time then the WiFi freeze thing.
Still on topic don't worry but that talk about go launcher. It "was" recently installed on my device. Till we all started doing data wipes Hahaa. My point is. As a fresh data restore no apps installed yet. My Google Search suggested that I use explorer, youtube or tubemate to view my search? I dont have that installed anymore I'm a changed man.. Thats why I brought up your Go Launcher theory. Maybe both launchers are interfering I guess, cuz I wouldn't know. I'm only here to give XDA's more Details so they can do what they do best...
My Samsung S738C is running 4.0.4 ics
Basebands S738CWYMJ1
KERNEL 3.0.8-1251199
BUILD IMM76D
Start with Go launcher or if there's anything this Noob can do. Won't be much
good job
thank you very much sir !
Hey guys,
I am using ICS Evervolv a5 on my N1. The mobile data connection works only if I don't connect to a WiFi network. If I do, the only way I have found to make it work again is to reboot the phone.
This means that while I am at home, everything works through WiFi, however, if I leave home, I have to reboot my phone once I am sure the phone is far enough from my WiFi access point to be able to connect. Then, it starts working with the cellular data plan
The only thing I can relate to this is that I have the "application protection" app installed, protecting the settings menu do with a code so my kids don't mess up with that. However, is still hard to believe that's the culprit.
Thoughts?

I too had this problem when i updated from 4.0 to 4.1U2. I tried couple of things like clearing cache/dalvik cache etc. nothing worked.
Later i used 4EXT Recovery to format all except fat32. After this i did clean install and things are working fine
Do you just have gray bars or is the connection icon showing an x?
I had the problem that I could not connect and I had to clear the data of the Google framework to get it going again.
But that might have been another problem.

Try turning airplane mode on and then off, so you don't have to reboot the phone. It works for me.

I am getting the gray bars. It seems that is working these past couple of days. I will try clearing the data from the Google framework the next time it happens..

I noticed that I was getting grey bars over the last few days too, but using CM7. However it corrected itself yesterday. Perhaps it's something external causing it?

Just a quick note, i guess most people on xda know this but if not, you could try to use an app called catlog or other similar apps.
You can find out if programs are behaving badly by using it and by Googling errors you often find the solution faster.

None issue
well..
after switching from wifi if the data doesnt work.
just put ur phone on airplan mode for few seconds and back to normal network mode
it will start the data activity ...
i had the same issue but now i can use it after airplan mode
no reboot required
1. After leaving the phone idle for a while, for example overnight, I find the phone completely non responsive. I know it is on as I saw the notification led flashing. I had to hold power and vol down to restart. This has happened twice.
2. Loses WiFi overnight. It shows no active WiFi connections when I wake up. I have to manually refresh the ap list. I have WiFi set to always on with the battery optimization enabled. This morning when I tried to disable and then restart WiFi, the phone rebooted.
Wondering if I should wipe and flash the stock image. I'm currently unlocked and rooted with cwm touch via the nexus toolkit.

Not getting that either. Did have a problem today with Wi-Fi but I think it's because I'm using public Wi-Fi that needs you to sign in.

Not quite seen your WIFI issue, but very similar. I've had the N4 apparently holding on to hotspots even though I'm miles away (and another hotspot should be picked up). Switching off WIFI is quick, but putting back on, the phone seems to take about a minute, and it then connects to the proper hotspot at that point.
Every day or two, I find myself putting the phone into and out of Airplane mode just to clear the radios and start again because a change in location has not been reflected. Mostly WIFI, but sometimes cell too (I get the grey reception symbol)
I'm running stock but I unlocked and rooted using mskip's toolkit. I also have cwm touch 6.0.0.19 to replace the stock recovery. In addition, I added the JB AOSP browser.
If these issues continue I will probably just do a nandroid backup, wipe and flash the stock image.

I actually haven't seen that issue but I don't use public hotspots.

Last night I installed a few toggle widgets. First for auto rotation then for sound profiles then the Bluetooth one and in the end for Wi-Fi.
However after installing the Wi-Fi widget.. I noticed Wi-Fi would turn itself on without even asking my permission. This I noticed when I woke up today morning and saw an unexpected amount of battery drain. I immediately checked and the Wi-Fi was on. I remember correctly that I had switched it off in night (which comes under my daily habits after hitting the bed). Anyhow I immediately got rid of that widget by uninstalling but issue still persists.
Can anyone suggest anything to stop phone from turning Wi-Fi on itself?

Sometimes apps like this can be a little flaky. I have HD widgets that I use to turn on my wifi and it can misbehave also. I have compensated by having a app that turns the wifi off at a particular time of day. You can also set it to turn wifi off when the screen is off. Other than that I would suggest looking for a widget that works better. There is a ton out there.
It was my bad that I downloaded this widget. I don't want to download some app to ''manage'' Wi-Fi setting off. I want to make it how it was prior this widget installation... Turning on and of myself. Is there any way.... Without the help of another app or widget

I believe it's the "battery guru" app you have installed... that's primarily what it does, keep you on Wi-Fi as much as possible

So far I think this was the cause.. Snapdragon BatteryGuru.
Go to the settings in BatteryGuru and turn OFF the "Manage Wi-Fi" option. It's been an hour I have turned it off and wifi hasn't turned itself on. Therefore, I believe this option was causing wifi to show up.
I remember a friend of mine turned this option ON (the same day when I installed that wifi toggle). I just realized that after reading QUIETLYloud's post. Thanks a bunch mate.
This will help people in future.
Hi all. I'm having a bit of GPS weirdness. GPS can get a lock quickly and accurately, however, I have to turn it off/on every time I open an app that uses it. Otherwise, it won't ever find the location. Once I turn it off/on it picks up and stays locked while the app is running. Also, if I switch to another app that uses GPS I have to do the same thing to get a location fix.
So obviously, the GPS function works, but something in the OS is not recognizing it until it's reset. Not the end of the world, but definitely annoying. Is anyone else seeing this?
This is on the AT&T version, by the way.
Thanks!
Check if you have GPS and Mobile Networks turned on for Location.
Else return it.... and get a new one... GPS has been quick and spot on...

I've noticed this once, where something in the background was starting a GPS lock, but seemed to cancel, and retry before it ever succeeded. Turning the GPS and location services off, then back on worked for me. Haven't had an issue since.
If you haven't tried resetting to factory default, I suggest doing so.

Well, I was hoping for a bit more granular approach than a full reset. I'll wait until the new OTA is applied before doing anything drastic.

Less drastic than returning it. I suppose it depends on how attached you are to your current setup - but I would say if you're experiencing that issue repeatedly, the factory reset is exactly what you'd need. I doubt the OTA will address it since it appears to be an isolated problem.

Nope, the issue is with ANY app that requests GPS data.
So, yeah. Today's OTA update did indeed fix this. i would press my own Thanks button, but that would be sinning!

I do not have yahoo weather installed. Another bit of info I forgot in last post:
I do sometimes, in a quick glance, see the gps icon running out of the blue. The notification of "acquiring gps signal bla bla" is present as well.. only to disappear within seconds. So it seems as if a specific service or application is using the gps in a faulty manner, blocking other services/applications from using it. May be why resetting the gps allows the application your trying to use access it. (my only fix)
If someone could read a logcat of what's going on I could post one up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
I've actually been combing through the logcat output and see a line reappearing often referring to "no secgps file" I do remember on my previous devices messing around with that file and others for GPS configurations. Does anyone know if this file is supposed to be included in the stock rom?
