My nexus 7 has a splash of dead pixels and the screen is separating from the bezel. I emailed Google and they are sending me a replacement. Will they accept my nexus if the boot loader is unlocked, or are they going to make me pay for another nexus?
Edit - can't seem to relock bootloader, its a driver issue that isn't worth the trouble to solve if I don't have to

Can you not relock it?

Hi,
so I was playing GTA 3 and the screen literally broke forming a triangle..
I want to change the tablet for a new one, but my device is still OEM unlock.. I unrooted it and flashed it to stock, but I guess it wiped the USB debugging, so I can't OEM lock.. what am I supposed to do? I've tried so many things before posting.. I even used WugFresh's desktop application to lock it, but nothing works...
So what am I supposed to do?
Thank you
My screen is also broken! What was your plan to get a new one, im not sure how to i dont have any additonal warentee

Boot into fast boot by holding down power and and volume down. From there you can adb fastboot oem lock.
I did that on my returned nexus 7.

I have an s3 but decided to sbf back to stock to root and ROM etc.
I completely forgot I have to activate my phone before I use it on stock and I obviously can't because switching back from a 3g phone to a 4g is a pain.
Is there anyway to bypass this screen or at least get a recovery on this thing without activating?
Thanks.

I just got a Droid X for dirt cheap and ran into this same problem. After some googling, I found if you press the 4 corners of the touch screen it will unlock. Weird, I know but it worked for me.

My screen cracked on my N4 and I am sending to LG to get repaired. I want to wipe the device first, but my screen is unresponsive. I don't have USB debugging enabled, but I can see my N4 directories if I plug the phone into the PC.
Is there anyway to flash images or even power off the device? I can turn the screen on, but the screen won't work. So I can't even power it off or boot into bootloader. Any ideas?
Well, I figured out a way. I remembered I had Cerberus installed with the ability to wipe the phone and SD card remotely, so that is what I did.
If the phone is on/ awake hold the power button for about 15secs. Then boot into recovery, up col and power I believe, then wipe data. Not sure the button combo to do that though. Probably up then down x 3 then power. But don't quote me. I don't have my N4 yet so if someone can try it and record the exact button steps that would be great.
This is assuming you don't have a custom ROM or recovery.

So it wasn't rooted or custom ROM or boot loader unlocked etc?

Also...funny thing is, I had an RMA with google already because I had yellow tinting on the screen when it got warm. The RMA arrived the same day I cracked the screen. So I called Google and told them and asked if I could just buy the new one and not send my old one back. They said that was fine. So, when the cracked screen gets fixed by LG, I will have an addition N4.
I'll take it for $325! Lol you know,as a helpers bonus...or something

( [Edit]Oops I didn't read carefully). Sounds like a hardware issue if it exists in the bootloader after a cold-start.
OK guys, woke up the other day to find the Nexus 4 with a solid (not flashing) red light and couldn't get it to boot or fastboot or anything, whether plugged into PC or not. Phoned google (they didn't ask about root or bootloader or anything) and they have sent a replacement. I will be sending my broken one back to them soon, but is there any chance I'll be able to relock it first? Does anyone have experience of this kind of situation before?

Don`t think they will be able to see or take the trouble to check if the phone`s unlocked. No, you cannot flash a image to a dead phone, if you could do that it wouldn`t be bricked

Well I hope you're right - would be frustrating to be punished for what is clearly a hardware issue!
And of course you can't flash a dead phone, I was wondering if there was some magical key combination that might reach fastboot that I haven't already tried or something like that :laugh:long shot I know...

Volume down while inserting USB cable.
Does it for anything?

Absolutely nothing, although I'd not heard that one before so thanks - with any luck it will just be checked for powering up and then wiped at Google once they can't get it on. I'm sure people must have sent phones to them in this condition before?
Usually by opening the phone and disconnecting the battery you can fix your red light issue, google it, it's pretty common.
yes but that also voids the warranty.

Follow iFixit guide or one similar. You won't void your warranty by taking off the back cover and unscrewing the screws that holding the battery connector.
Then remove and replace battery connector and undo all previous steps.

No, no response at all from it whatever I do - might leave it a couple of days to see if the battery fully discharges, seen that in a couple of places as potentially helping. Wouldn't be too keen on taking it apart, seems like tempting fate regarding the warranty to be honest.
No just RMA it
