Easiest method for sharing movies from a phone - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well the 7 only has limited storage. My galaxy s3 has a 64gb microsd. I have a bunch of 1 gig movies i would like to store on the sd but play on the 7.
What would be the best for streaming via wifi hotspot?

I could be wrong but you could use wifi direct to connect the two and run an ftp server using es file explorer on your s3 and stream directly from your s3 using es file explorer again

Skifta is very easy - I use it between my phone, Nexus and Media Center.

Yes, via Bluetooth or dropbox "wifi"

via FTP
I also use a free file manager from the marketplace called File Manager HD. It allows me to map a drive to my Windows machine wirelessly. From there I just copy the files I need.

ES manager is the best. You can also copy files to the microsd.
Wifi file Explorer works.
Android to pc on free app and pc to Android on paid

I use WebSharing File/Media Sync by NextApp. It creates a web server on your phone. Connect you PC to your phone via wifi and you use your PC browser to view, upload and download files from TF
The Lite version is free and has no ads. The full version cost $3.00, but it is worth paying as I use it a lot to transfer movies and music
As a full function , but more expensive solution, I use a Tonido Plug ( Small server module at $99.00) connected to a 1TB drive. It is on 247 and I can access via wireless at home or anywhere in the world via internet to up/download files or stream photos or music. Do not have to leave PC on.

+1 for the File Manager HD
It is free, nice graphics and UI. Mapped my networked storage, and gives me instant access to all files on it wirelessly.
rio
Another +1 for File Manager HD, looks great and allows wireless transfers. I tried that ES File Manager and lol it looks horrible, I don't see how anybody could like it or even stand to use it.

Im not too sure if this is the answer your looking for.
But I would try to get a file explorer that allows LAN file browsing etc.
ES File Explorer
or
FX Explorer for example.
Im sure these BOTH allow network based file exploring, e.g. from Nexus 7 to PC and in your Case from Nexus 7 to your phone.
You can then view the phones files, and therefor open the videos on your phone from your Nexus.

The only way I've got this to work is download a samba server app to
The phone... configure password etc... Then start
The server.
on the tablet, open es explorer, set to lan(Upper left corner), click new server.. scan, then it should find your phone.
I was able to view files and stream video this way.
Samba file server https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba&hl=en

FTP Roms on Nexus 7

Well after a month of purchasing the nexus 7 I've become addicted to emulators and am quickly expanding my ROMS. I have a Mac Pro at home capable of holding them, is there a way I can FTP to it and run the rom directly off of my computer?
There are FTP programs available for android but I seriously doubt that you could "run" them from another location.
I use es file explorer on my. Nexus to connect to my Linux and windows boxes across wifi. That way I have quick access to all my roms, music, TV stuff etc. I just copy the roms I want to play across and stream any video direct from my PC's

Cannot connect to Mac Samba server, ES File Explorer

I'm trying to connect to my Mac using ES File Explorer. It sees the server but only as a guest. As soon as I enter my password I get unknown user / password.

Thank you very much for this app : SMBup !!!
I have an internal and an external drive with videos. With the share options of the mac I was able to see the 2 hard drives on my Nexus 7 but only able to open the internal drive and play the videos from this one. With the external I had "connection failed" when I tried to open a directory. I tried everything I can
I now install SMBup, add the two directories (internal folder and external folder with videos) and now everything's working ! :good::good::good:

Since you are successfully streaming HD from mac to n10, I wondered if you ever connected the n10 to HDTV for throughput, and, if so, how it performed. I'm investigating ways for my son to get a smooth HD stream from his i7 iMac to his HD TV. PS3 does not work for HD.

[Q] Transferring music from s3 to nexus 7

Hey guys I was wondering what is the best way to get all my music from my galaxy s3 onto my Nexus 7. I have over 200 songs and don't want to re download them all and was wondering what's the easiest method to get the from my s3 to my nexus 7 thanks!
Find a PC and copy them onto your N7!
Try Google Music! Just upload all your songs and play it on both devices. Works great for me.

Hmmm Im trying I cant seem to get it to work.
And when I try dragging my music files from my s3 to nexus 7 it always says it wont play try again or skip.
Wifi File Explorer to transfer wirelessly. USB OTG cable and either flash drive or card reader with card to physically copy. Mount the s3 via USB to your computer, copy files to PC, mount Nexus via USB and copy files from computer. There are more ways I'm sure. I didn't suggest Bluetooth because its too slow.
