Converting itunes tv shows and movies to a readable 7 format? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've trolled this question hard and can't seem to find a solid answer. Anyone know of a way to convert your purchased itunes movies and shows to a format the Nexus 7 can read? It's easy to turn songs into mp3 from mp4, but having trouble with video. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

As far s I know DRM file protection would not allow for this.

I looked even further and there are some programs that will strip the DRM for you. I do not consider this pirating in any sense because I paid the money for these items.

Try playing the file with MX Player, first. Failing that....
Strip the DRM then use Handbrake to convert video.
Handbrake is the ultimate open-source video converter. Free, of course. Even has an Android preset.
I suggest using the MP4 container, or MKV container, with H.264 encoding. This is pretty standard stuff, and run it with MX Player and MX Player ARMv7 NEON codec pack. Its all Play Store stuff.
Cheers

is is worth buying the pro version of mx player? have to use my 25 dollars on something... also regarding the neon codec pack.. do you need to configure the player to use it or does it pick it up automatically?

Itunes Movie to Nexus 7
All -
First, thank you all very much for all the amazing work you do. I have an old kindle fire and I rooted it using directions from this site. I love it now - it is just like my daughters new Nexus 7.
My issue:
Daughter bought a nexus 7 - she does not want me to root it - so fine. She wants me to get her itunes movies from Mom's mac to her nexus 7.
I've trolled for 2 days all over looking of for a way to do this. I downloaded handbrake on Mom's mac and nothing happened - system crashed actually. Also, when I plugged in Nexus 7 to Mac via USB cord the mac didn't recognize as a device. Strange.
So I will now try to do the same on my Windows laptop - download Handbrake and try to convert movie.
Question: How do you get movie from handshake to nexus 7?
I'm sure it is easy and I feel like an idiot... but after two days I give in and need the experts to help me please.
Much appreciated.

Which Movie App Is The Best For Nexus S?

I just want to ask some of you, which app are you guys using to watch any format movie on your NS. I have Rockplayer which works fine with divx movies format, i haven't test other format for rockplayer but if it's working with divx im sure it's working on all the format that rockplayer support. inception looks for beautiful on this screen. wow. I felt as if i was in a small theater blasting the headphones on my ears. speaking about headphones, are you guys using the one that NS came or other brands? hope to hear from you guys. NS forever
Hmm, which version of rock player are you using? Free download from market or paid one. I have the free version and it only plays mp4 movies. No other format is supported. This is same for any other media player, vPlayer, Meridian, Real player, VLC media player etc.
I guess Nexus doesn't support any format but strangely mp4 files plays in any media player. weird...
free version. well im playing divx movie on the NS and it works fine. i would have to check other format movies to see if it can play. wow the screen on the NS looks Gorgeous
My Nexus S and Rockplayer did not like trying to play my copy of 1080p copy of Inception(.mp4) lol. Near complete lockdown of the device in every meaning of the word. Had to do a battery pull in order to restore functionality.
EDIT: To specify, this lock up only occurred when attempting to use the "Hardware Decode" function. Using "Software Decode" I would get severely compressed sound or no sound at all as well as 1-2FPS.
I'm waiting on VLC for Android.

It really kind of sucks that hardly any video formats are supported.
Just give it time, I'm sure dev are working on it. I just can't wait fire honeycomb

dvd movies?

i am traveling this week for the memorial day weekend. i ripped some of my dvd movies and would like to transfer them to my xoom. are there any converters in the market and what format do you guys recommend? what app plays movies on the xoom? thanks in advance.
I use DVD FAB, I have it set to rip to AVI format, tried MP4 but that didnt work very well, would play nicely on the PC but not on the xoom, I use RockPlayer to play using Software Compression
Tray vlc on the PC

It is not free, but DVD Catalyst is well worth it. It creates very good quality files that play perfectly on the Xoom. They have several presets for the Xoom based on how you plan on watching (Xoom or HDMI).
http://www.tools4movies.com/2011/03/dvd-catalyst-4-xoom-update-v4-0-2-6-release-notes/
If you have already ripped your movies you can still use those files with DVD Catalyst, but it can also rip them for you.
I do not work for them or are in any way related, just a happy customer.
If it's a dvd rip, you might be able to get away with moboplayer's (or rockplayer's) software decoding mode. Get it (on your xoom) and try one or two of your rips before you convert everything.
ok guys. i use dvdfab to rip the movie and then purchased dvd catalyst 4 xoom to convert. i uploaded the mp4 video to the xoom and the movie does not play. i downloaded moboplayer with avi codec and it still doesnt play. what movie player do you guys recommend on the xoom??
Moboplayer should defo work. If not try that vplayer trial for 7days should last you for your trip :-D

The MP4 files created with DVD Catalyst play best using the stock video player (since it has better hardware support) however, Gallery tends to be a bit picky.
The best way is to use a file-explorer (es file explorer or root explorer for example) to browse and select the video.
edit: try directly from DVD rather than using dvdfab first. I am not sure if you changed any settings in DVD Catalyst, but try the defaults first. There is a Xoom guide (pdf format) included in the zipfile you downloaded. It makes things a lot easier
I use DVDFab to rip and convert at the same time right from my DVD disc. I use it for MP4/AAC at 20fps, subtitles turned off and choose 2 pass conversion. Comes out really nice. Terminator 2 took about 37mins on my PC and was ready to xfer to my xoom.

so the xoom isnt as easy to get and play dvd rips on as my galaxy tab,for that i just use handbrake and put it on the sdcard and plays perfect everytime was hoping when my xoom gets here it would be that easy. cause i have a bunch all ready ripped to use. their in mp4 format will those work(will handbrake work for xoom using default player)? thx

Videos for Transformer/Tegra 2

Hey guys this is a good video conversion program for virtually any device it comes pre-loaded with 1000's of device profilea. So if you want to convert videos to the closest possible specs for whatever device with good compatibility then try this program:
DVD Catalyst-PM if you need the program
*I also use it to convert 4-8GB MKV to AVCHD with no quality loss. It just remuxes the audio and makes it ready to burn to DVD or DVD-DL so its compatible in PS3 and other Blu-Ray players
Photos are attached. Hope it help some of you

Yup using this now too ...good selection of settings also.
Or spend 5 dollars and buy Dice Player, it'll play anything 720p smoothly no matter what container or audio with mkv embeded subtitle support too.

Not true.
I have some 720p videos with breaks

Some "complex" MKV scenes doesnt play well with dice player. if they can solve that, I'd gladly buy the app. I've tried a lot of MKV files and none of them play smoothly without slowdowns for the entire duration of the TV show or Movie.

This used to be the case for me but since they released the codec on a separate app some mkvs play bad. Mx video player works pretty good with mkvs now. It's free and there's a optional paid version

Well I use this program to convert cause it gives me a smaller file size and compatible. So its just an option no one says you have to use this.

For Blu-rays I've found DVD Catalyst 4 inadequate because of sync issues. I've also read that by turning off Blu-ray Telecine will correct the issue but it doesn't. So, I had to look at other software to rip and convert my Blu-rays. Also DVD Catalyst 4 set my Kaspersky Antivirus Heuristic off and said it was performing in a way similar to a virus or trojan.
I've found that Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper works really well. It has video acceleration and will utilize you're AMD (app acceleration) or a NVidia video card with (Cuda technology). It's normally $39 but you can get it HERE for $23.40 with the coupon code 'SMRT-ADEK'. HERE is a guide as to what settings to use for the TF.
Another great software would be Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate which runs $65 but you can get it for $37.70 HERE with coupon code 'SOFT-K8TT'. It makes flawless videos for the TF using the XOOM settings. HERE is a guide on how. It has video acceleration just for NVidia video card. It will also let you select not only different subtitles but allows for 'Only allow forced subtitles'.
When I get home from work I'll upload some clips so you can test them on your TF. Also I suggest you use either Dice Player or MX Video for playback.
EDIT: This is the Pavtube settings. Right click on the picture and 'Save As' to download a short single chapter MP4 file to test on your TF.

Playing Blu-Ray movies on my tablet

How can I move Blu-ray movies to my Tab 2 10.1 and play them?
hmm I believe I tried a ripped blu ray and it didn't work, maybe due to the level and spec.
Your other option (if this is the case) is to convert the file down to something we know will play.
http://www.makemkv.com/download/ to rip
and then any other software prog to re encode, I use ripbot264
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipBot264
but you will need to ensure you have installed the other bits of software it needs.
I have been using makemkv and dvd catalyst 4, but i am having problems ripping the subtitles, only the hard encoded ones like in avatar.
I will give ripbot a go.
John.
I have been using Ripbot264 for years. I usually choose "SD iPad" setting
with MKV, 1280x720 resolution, CF22, 2.0 audio, normalized to 100%, and
hard subtitles(if needed). A 2-hour Blu-ray usually end up as a 1.3GB
MKV video file.
Instead of the default video player, I always use DicePlayer.(which plays
somewhat smoother 720p video than MX Player)
have you considered using DicePlayer? they've been successfully been able to play my anime, so maybe they're able to play bd? and if you rip them, i would suggest you also use formatfactory. just be wary when you install it as it tend to install random add-ons but other than that, it worthy to use.
FYI: DicePlayer also play .flv as well. i haven't fully tested it, but i can confirm that it play various format and known format to anime, if you know what i'm tlking about.
I have used the Blu-ray converter to enjoy the HD movies on my tablet and I have got it with the cheap price in the Easter deal, works very well.
MakeMKV and Handbrake.

I watched a 6 gig .mvk file on the Tab 2 today. I also used MX Player. Make sure you check the h/w+ option in the settings. Also if you encoded DTS just search for "mx player dts codec" and you will find one.

It’s an easy job as long as you rip and copy your media from your Blu-rays to your computer’s hard drive or even transfer them to your tablet or phone. An easy-to-use Blu-ray ripper is the key.
You can find some freeware like MakeMKV, but it also has some limit, like it can only help you to rip Blu-ray to MKV format, and it may not work well on Windows 8 or Mac Mavericks.
In this case, you can find a MakeMKV alternative tool like Pavtube Blu-ray ripper
i install xperia movies and i can see all bluray movies with best video and audio

MKV files

Hi I have a nexus 7 and want to move some videos from my pc to the tablet but a couple of them are in mkv format. Does anyone know if there are any good mkv converters in the market(google play). I know there are plenty out there but has anyone used one on their Nexus 7, and can confirm they work ok? Or is it best to convert it first on my Windows 7 desktop before transfering to the Nexus
Thanks in advance
I use BSPlayer to play MKV files. It plays them perfectly smooth and with sound. I've also tried others, such as MXPlayer, but that plays videos without sound.
MKV is a container format which have many Codecs.
Convert the video with your PC.

Thanks for the answers guys, I a now having trouble putting my music onto this nexus 7. I had no problem putting music from iTunes to my HTC one s phone but they will not paste onto my nexus 7. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong at the moment

In my experience, MoboPlayer is the best and MXPlayer follows it!!
I've been playing MKVs locally and across my home network with XBMC
Works great for cover art and subtitles. No lagging or any other issues so far
Thanks again for the replies, believe it or not while I was playing around adding files to my nexus(or trying to I should say) i decided to listen through haedphones. I`ve had it for over a week and have only listened through the speaker, and now I find my headphone jack is not working, so have contacted Google and am getting it replaced.
I usually try all functions straight away and feel stupid that its taken me over a week before i tried headphones
MXPlayer is my first choice and diceplayer is second.

I think you can only transfer files up to 4GB (or something).
You can try using airdroid.

Just change from H/W to s/w decoding and it plays sound fine.
You can also try the beta of vlc player for android. I use it for mkv playback and its awesome.

Dice + plugin if mkv file is on local storageor on a windows/samba share, else Plex. And Plex is wholesome

I use mxplayer but if you want to make them mp4 without a full re-encode, use Xmedia Recode. It will take a large MKV to an MP4 in less than 10 minutes typically.
Generally i use mkvavi2mp4 http://sourceforge.net/projects/mkvavi2mp4/
Only recodes audio when its not compatible with mp4.
I've also used gotsent in the past which worked ok but tended to recode the video when i didn't want.

@OP, Mx Player plays .MKVs, but once in a while it has problems with a certain video, in my experience. In that case I use Dice player [Now ad-free version is Free, donationware]. Also Mx Video doesn't seem to be able to play .AVI with H/W decoding. For some reason Dice Player can though. I dunno why Mx Video doesn't make it so they can H/W decode .AVIs too but nonetheless, it works great for .MKV and .MP4 [x264, h264, etc].

If Mx Video doesn't have any sound, touch the Note icon and select S/W. It will S/W decode pretty much any sound [including AC3] with S/W, but a lot of times it can't decode a certain sound codec with H/W. You can use H/W video and S/W sound at the same time.

BSPlayer is the best out there for mkv IMO. Smooth as butter, also over the network e.g. using a cifs mount.
