Last days for the little hero... - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hello guys. I know some of you are thinking in buying a new phone and was wondering what phone you guys thinking on? It seems that my hero has some screen problems...noticed that a day ago..and the battery drains to fast...well after 2 and 1/2 years have to say the phone made his money....and helped me a lot!
I'm thinking on a HTC ONE S to be the next phone...i get along very well with sense and it seems that some of the features it offers are something like: DAMN I NEED THEM (example the dialer...). What do you guys think about the ONE S...and in comparison with the ONE X...
Another thinks that makes me wonder is that the new andreno 300 series is out and don;t know when any new phone will get it...
Waiting for your responses guys, Stefan

Well i got myself a HTC One X about a month ago and its an amazing phone and the Tegra 3 optimized games are in a league of there own compared to anything else although they do drain the battery pretty quickly.
Like you i was also trying to decide between the One X and One S. Originally I wanted the One S purely because i thought the One X would be too big for me but then i heard of problems with the black coating on the One S (not sure if this is fixed yet) so I then decided the One X was the one for me.
The screen on the One X is amazing. Also because the One X is a big phone I now get the placebo effect that my Hero is now really small and that my One X is normal size and it didn't take me too long to get used to the big screen although at first the big screen did seem daunting
If you don't need a quad core processor and a big screen then perhaps the One S is what you should get. They are both amazing phones, perhaps the One X is a bit more future proof, in a years time, the One X will still be ahead of most of the competition. But having said that they are both very good phones and whichever one you get, you can't really go wrong. It all just comes down to personal preference and what you mostly use your phone for.
If you need any more info on the One X then just ask and maybe someone who has got a One S could tell you about it to help you decide

thanks for the reply. Tested the One X and S and have to say that the one X has a better display but the One S is faster . and the One S is kind of the phone that suits me so i'm gonna get one. Thanks for the help, have a nice day,
Stefan

Well.. I got myself a One V. Awesome phone! It's smaller, has incredible casing (better than x or s), great screen, nice camera.. and now loaded with CM9/Paranoid Android... it's an awesome phone!
And it's half the price of one S!
Cheers!

~~Legend vs Xperia X10? Should I get the legend?

I am in debate between these two phones. No Desire, for it looks effing ugly.
Why do you guys like the Legend, are there any complaints?
OH.
How much did you pay to get your HTC Legend!?
I found a deal for $490 for the HTC legend!
Any good place where I can find it cheaper?
Legend was my first smartphone. I had a long hesitation between it and the desire but I can't regret my choice... my sister has the i3gs and the legend is really better although more difficult to use because I had some problems with album arts and wifi... don't worry I have resolved both by an app... what I love the most with my legend is holding a hard piece of beautiful metal.. the finish is the best I ve ever seen! Now concerning the x10: I don't really like the blue ui and the phone is too big and blocked to an old android for the rest of the year: legend is beautiful, extremely fast, compact and have a better autonomy due too its screen: smaller but definitively comfortable

Thanks that really helps!! How much and where did you get it? Anyone else?
Legend FTW
Got it from ashop.tv for 335 € (~$425).
But you wouldn't expect any other answer from user of a forum dedicated to the Legend? I like the design more
Do you had both phones in your hands at a local store already? That's imho very important.
Besides, X10 has still Android 1.6, and will officially updated to 2.1 not sooner than Q4/2010. I also like the Sense UI.
Legend! get the Legend
Legend is quietly briliant
The construction of the phone is next to perfect with 3 exceptions : first, sometimes in long conversation the edge of the device might inflict some discomfort to the ear (maybe i press it too much to the ear) and second, the removable part where you insert the sim card does not close up perfectly...must be around half milimiter. Last exception is the laudspeaker ... if u put the phone on a flat surface with the display facing the cealing...when the phone rings you probably miss around half of the ringing volume.
Software wise...the phone is pretty stable and fast, ocasionally there are some minor gliches with the wigits...i found that sometimes the HTC Calendar wigit does not show me my meetings on the month view unless i enter a particular day. This is resolved easy...just removing the wigit and installing it back.
I also found some problems with the bluetooth transfers. I own an HP 8710W mobile workstation and an Lenovo Thinkpad T500 and with both of em the trasfers often are a pain...i guess it must be the Android here, prolly on 2.2 version it will be improved.
Conclusion: coming back to the topic, these are just some minor problems regarding the headset...things i observed in about 2 weeks of usage....but compairing this peace of art with the ugly plastic Xperia X10 is just wrong. I troully belive SE has dropped the ball on their smarthphone producs begining with Xperia X1. Word of advice : just stay away from SE !
Hope this helps.
with the ongoing android updates scene & the developer community also moving away from the legend , i suggest you get a nexus one instead .... atleast if you are going to keep your phone for a longer time you will always have the latest android build (either from google or XDA).... but if you choose to stay away , then i suggest you skip the x10 & go for the legend
i went for the legend, however now i kinda wish i got the desire.
i went for the legend because it looks so nice however after playing with a desire in my local telstra store i think i probably should've gotten the desire as in real life its not that ugly at all.
a friend of mine got the x10 its not bad but i do miss the pinch zooming that i get on the legend but the bigger screen is very very nice. really it comes down to personally preference as they are both very good android handsets however the legend is a fair bit cheaper
Indeed....Desire/Nexus have the big screen and fast processor but it all comes down to how much you use the web browsing experience everyday...i mean i check some websites from time to time but only around 30 minutes a day. I gladly exchange that big screen of the Desire with the way more pocket friendliness and build quality of the Legend. Not to mention i pulled out 3 days of battery juice recently with moderated usage. It just fits great in my pocket !

brother same results for me only i am not using only 2g; my battery gives me 2d 18hrs thats after 2nd recharge from the time i bought phone. i also do negligible web browsing. only thing is all developers have got these big & fast phones so they wont pay attention to legend. but said that, even legend is not at all slow, so i think its only matter of time that some good developer like paul pay attention to legend; we will get super fast legend.
Ive been having this problem too. So many smartphones out there and I have been wanting to abandon WinMo and take the Android plunge.
What I have learned is the following: Go out and try the phones in a shop. I wasnt sure either. I was considering an X10 or HTC phone and 1 thing that made up my mind was the Sense interface. I didnt like the X10 navigation and feel. HTC is spot on.
Now my only issue is trying to decide between the Desire and Legend. I hit some small road blocks trying to order the Desire and now it becomes a real war in my brain (Legend or Desire).
But go and try it. Play with the devices. I think in the end it will come down to what feels better for you.

as an owner of the legend the only reason to get it over the desire is because it looks so damn nice
if looks dont matter then go for the desire its not that ugly and can be found for only a little more than the legend. its also not much bigger than the legend
personally as soon as htc come out with a phone that looks as good as the legend with the power of the desire or more then insta buy for me
i am sucker for sense, i purchased motorola milestone but had to return it within 10 days & bought legend; as i am old fan of hero. I have seen nexus but not in action. i dont think i can stand stock vanilla eclair, i love sense. so might as well try to get DESIRE in my opinion, but try to find out battery life as its a big screen
Thanks noobdeagle and everyone for the comments.
For me I find it all helpful. I will definitely be getting either a legend or Desire in the next week or so. I think it will now come down to who will give me the best deal locally for a contract renewal.
But one thing I can say for sure. HTC seems to be going the right direction with its newer phones. Plus I agree with you all out there the Sense definitely beats out SE take on Android. I am someone who knows nothing about Droid (being an Palm OS and then WinMo user his whole Smartphone life) and When I picked up the Legend or Desire, I have to say that HTC made it very user friendly and almost intuitive to use. When I picked up the X10 and played with it, I didnt have that feeling. Actually, I felt the opposite. It felt awkward and strange.
Definitely dont want to have that feeling when using a new OS.
So thanks all of you experienced Droid users out there for also helping us newbies.

Legend to Desire

Hey all !
i was wondering about selling my legend and buy the htc desire ?
but i thought the htc desire looked pretty big.. ?
but is this a good replacement ?
The desire has better specs but a little lower build quality.
I'd say over all its a great replacement though
On a side note, how much would you be selling your legend for? I'm looking to grab one if its the canadian version
I'm from Faroe Islands (check google or something if you want to know more about it)
im not sure how i could send it to you from here.. :S
and.. i know that the specs are better on the htc desire, but i was thinking about the size.. for me the htc desire looks pretty big, but am i wrong ?

The best comparison I could find is here http://www.omio.com/phones/compare/htc_desire+htc_legend
It seems the desire is just a few millimeters bigger length and width wise, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.
How much are you looking at selling it for? As for the islands your at, I'm really not sure how it would work anyways, international mail or something maybe?

Haha I didn't mean your email I meant to send would have to be through international mail
ooh, loool XD
I know this isn't what you asked but...
Have you considered the Nexus One rather than the desire? Same spec but the N1 runs froyo...
On paper the desire/N1 is faster, in reality the gap, as far as I can tell in my research is non existent (although I have heard claims that the legend is much faster due to lower res screen). The legend has less memory however and therefore could run fewer apps at the same time? This has never been a problem for me personally.
Build quality of course is a big change, the N1/Desire feel quite sturdy but the Legend is made of frikkin metal.

just an update, legend should get froyo
BUT
flash 10.1 most likely wont run due to the phones processor, it is not capable of running it, as of now anyways...
however, i'm sure after some time flash may get officially released or the modding community may try and do something about it but thats not something to rely on
desire is actually a reallllly good phone, i say sell the legend and get it!
The legend is hot to look at but like most phones it will get damaged. I had an HTC Hero and using a Desire is great for the bug screen and browsing. That extra half inch has made a good mobile experience great! Gaming wise you probably won't notice a big deal due to the higher resolution. Neocore demo actually was on par and sometimes better than my Desire. The only thing would be the number of apps you could have running at once. Build wise I think the Desire is great, mine is anyway though being machine out of a single block of aluminium certainly gives it a feeling of solidity.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i actually just found out that you can use the htc evo flash 10.1 on the legend running froyo with a small work around and it apparently works near flawlessly so it should take much for a full unhacked version to become released. if not the hack version will do just fine
I have one question about the Nexus One..
if i want trackball light on it, do i need to take in half, and install a LED to it, or is this already done ? so i only need boot the phone to get custom LEDs ?

not to sure about this, you may want to check out the nexus one forums.
for the price of a nexus one there are many other phones that can and will do a better job.

like which phones ?
anything without a trackball, my curve 8330 has a trackball and it always gets stuck. go with a trackpad or nothing.
the new evo is nice along the the droid x, also the htc incredible is amazing.
maybe even the samsung galaxy s?
there are tons of phones out there that are equal if not better then the nexus, just do a little research for what you like best
i'm still probably going to grab a legend either way though

upgrade to Neo

Hi guys, i just want to ask for your opinion. I should soon have an option to upgrade to Xperia Neo and it would cost me about 100€ after i sold my x10. Do you think it would be worth it?
I would actually like the smaller screen and phone size, 4" is a bit too much for me, 3.7 could be just right.
That said, i wouldn't really use the hdmi and front camera, and with x10 getting an 2.3 update it's kinda pointless to "upgrade" wouldn't you say? The main advantage for me would be that Neo is more compact.
What do you think?
I think wait for something better, but that's just my opinion
If you put much weight on having the latest version of android, buy the Neo. If not, save your money.

Lol who knows how well se will support those phones though..
I'd wait a bit there are much better phones now and in the not so distant future there will be even better
Meh, the 2.3 update on the X10 shouldn't really be a factor into whether or not you go for a new phone. The Neo doesn't offer too much more for 100€.
Pros: slightly quicker, will receive updates past 2.3
Neg: Not that much smaller (still 13mm thick but reduction in width is nice)
Other: Lots of other small improvements like the screen, camera (hdmi and front cam but you said you won't use it so it's just a mild pro in this case)
A question to ask yourself is if the Neo is a phone you'll still be happy with (with current specs) in a year or two?
I would wait for something else.
thanks for the answers guys
all of you are correct and i'm not sure what to do, i'll just see when i'm presented with the option, maybe it'll be +100€, maybe less, so who knows
i know Neo is as thick as the x10 and it's not much smaller (only 3mm (119 vs 116)) but i think that because it's way "rounder" than the x10 is, it'll be more pocketable and overall easier to use, don't you think?

Actually, the X10 is a phone i would still be happy to use in a year or two, BUT it's size bothers me, sometimes it's just a hassle to use, i don't know how some of you manage with an even bigger screen but my hands are just not built for that, and i'm not such a small guy!
So yeah, the specs of the X10 is basically everything i need in a phone, so i guess Neo should be just as good for me, i don't really think dual core phone would help that much in messaging and calling people the games i play run just fine so i'm good
only thing i'd like is Full HD recording but that's not imperative and as far as i know, no phone has that yet but i guess in a 2 year timeframe it'll be mainstream so i'll just wait for that, i don't like to spend too much cash for my phones, i got the x10 more than a year ago for 200€ which was a real steal, so i'm happy with what i got it's just that damn size

Wouldn't recommend HTC Legend

This is a really bad phone for anyone looking for an Android/HTC phone.
It's slow, imposs to root and has such a small screen.
AVOID.
PS, get yourself a HTC Desire S, beast of a phone.

I find the legend to be a great phone. Not the fastest phone but it gets the job done in a small metallic package. I'm afraid we will not see to many 3.2 inch phones in the future...the trend is really big displays now. I guess i'll just have to settle with 3.7 inch.

Guys, this Phone is 1,5 years old. It´s just outdated.
Although, Htc built it for Design Users, not for Power Users. Legend has one of the best looking case of all phones.
Just changed to HTC sensation, which also has a unibody frame, last week.

I love my Legend, It's better than my wifes Wildfire and more stylish than the other phones. Best of all, it's mine and I can do what I want too it and it does what I require just as well as my friends Desire HD or sensation, the difference is theirs is a bit quicker
HTC need to come out with the Legend S in a few months, I think it should have these specs: 4.3"/4.5" screen, 2Ghz quad core, 1Gb Ram, 32Gb on board with SD slot for more, along with the usual wifi/BT/Radio etc
That'll make it a Legendary phone

I hope too!!
Darn you all
Problem with being in Canada is that it's one of the most expensive countries for a cell phone plan in the world. We don't have 2-year contracts, our max is 3. And if you try to land on a 1- or 2-year committment, it wouldn't be as economically wise as to buy it outright, which I did, but regret.
Wildfire S here is $250, Galaxy Gio is $70, Legend was bought for $400. Oh noes. So that means I'll be lugging this device here for another year after you all move on (it's no-contract, but it's the prime time where I actually earn enough cash to actually spend it on another mobile device).
Unless, you know, I win the lottery.
I disagree. Legend is a great phone.
Do not think rooting a Legend is hard challenge. The custom ROMs are also very good.
Not to mention the design - the aluminium block is one of the best smartphone exterior I have ever seen!
And the display size - it's not the biggest in the smartphone portfolio, but it's still pocket size, which I think is great. After all, I want phone, not tablet for my jeans..
I've had my Legend for 10 months now, Best ruddy phone I've ever owned, I've owned about 12-13 phones over the past 10 years, this one is the best, "for me". It may not be the fastest phone, it may not have the most memory, it may not have the biggest screen, it doesn't have a dual core, but thats fine by me.
When I got my phone, I really loved HTC sense, Eclair and Froyo, which I loved even more, how ever, now that I have rooted my phone and seen what's out there in the way of alternative roms, I must now admit, the stock HTC with sense rom really lets this phone down, hell, Blay0's rooted version of Froyo is awesome.
My opinion is at the end of the day, the hardware is great and it really all comes down to the ROM, and the stock HTC is a bit of a fail....
Oh BTW, the physical size of the Legend is also a winner for me, my wife has a desire HD, ruddy thing doesn't even fit in my hand comfortabily!
I have my Legend over a year and its (except a small screen) the realy legend! its survived a lot of thig, with a two scratches only on the body.
now i have HD2, and now take care to not fall even with two feet :S
Legend isn't bad, it's just an old mid-range phone ...
it has everything I need for my daily activities in addition to handy size.
I don't need anything better for now.

[Q] Just a random question: Switch to Galaxy S3 or One X?

hi guys, ive been on my HTC Desire Z for almost a year. since 21-07-11 to be exactly, after a lot of stressing to root this thing( it was my first time) what took me about 4 days, and a lot of new roms, and flashing, im starting to look for another phone. I prefer the Samsung Galaxy S3 over the HTC, because its a little faster, has a MENU button, and isn't rebooting when you are running all apps( happend to me when i was testing the HTC) The HTC becomes laggy if you run all apps at the same time even without live wallpaper. The S3 can run smootly if you run all apps at the same time, even with a live wallpaper.
But what do you guys think? Do you prefer the HTC one X or de S3?
For me none of those phones have a physical keyboard, which is a problem for me. I'd go with HTC though, cause I have relatives who've had random problems with the Samsung S2. We've had to exchange the phone twice. Once cause it didn't want to charge, and another time the phone wouldn't turn on. I'd consider HTC to be the better quality manufacturer.
Also my G2 is the result of two broken G2's I found on Ebay for cheap, which resulted in one working G2. These phones very resilient, considering one phone was ran over by a car and the other was water damaged. I'm holding off until my contract ends, in which I now have a bargaining chip against T-Mobile.
Samsung is much easier to root compared to HTC usually. HTC usually has much better community support then Samsung, but I think it's nearly equal nowadays. Don't know what problems you have with your G2, but I haven't found myself wanting a new phone yet. Haven't found a situation where the phone slows down, especially if you overclock the phone. The only time the G2 would be slow is if you're using ICS roms. Once the Desire HD gets ICS, the speed for ICS on G2 should dramatically improve.
After countless hours of reading articles, opinions and spec sheets I'm opting for the S3. The only drawback I see is the lack of physical keyboard. The S3 out performs the HOX in almost every aspect. Although....my contract isn't up till January so maybe there will be other contenders by then.....

I can't stand Samsung's build quality, so I would vote for HTC One X.
Samsung devices are all plasticky and cheap-ish in quality (my sister has an S2, my uncle has an S, and oh golly I hate using them).
Also, TouchWiz is the ugliest thing ever. Sense (4.0 especially) is beautiful and IMO adds a lot of needed tools (maybe it's just me being used to it).
Anyway, try them both for a while if you can and then decide on which one to buy. Read reviews and search YouTube for videos of both and see how they perform in different conditions.
That's how I ended up with my Desire Z. Cheers!

HTC sense is using way too much memory, thats why my is desire z is so slow, ICS is the fastest version of android for me, i lags but not as much as android 2.3.X with htc sense 2.1 - 3.5, i can even normally play dead space
I think go get the S3.

I'm going to be getting my new One X in the next few days. I chose the One X over the SIII for a few different reasons:
1) The One X is much cheaper on contract here in Australia.
2) The One X has much much much better build quality than the SIII. I saw a bunch of drop test videos for the SIII and it seemed to break as easily if not easier than an iphone, which is just shocking for a flagship. I even saw this post in the One X forums where someone dropped their One X out of a window from a first storey building and it survived with just a scuff on the back!
3) I think the One X actually looks like a proper flagship phone. I'm still not impressed with how the SIII looks and feels.
4) I personally prefer Sense to Touchwiz.
5) I don't have any use for the many gimmicky features that touchwiz offers.
When i get my One X, i'm going to post a full review with initial impressions, which i will then update after using it for a few weeks. I will also compare it to my experience with my Desire Z.
Actually, i don't mean to take over the thread here, but is there anything specific that anyone would like me to include in my review about the transition from the Desire Z to the One X? I wanna give back as much useful feedback as possible, so let me know what you guys want to know for when i post my review. You guys can pm me about this so that this thread doesn't get clogged up.
I came from a desire z to the one x, miss the keyboard but the speed improvement is great and the bigger screen is a blast.
Can't go wrong with either though, s3 is a beast as well

What do you guys think about the LG P880 Optimus 4x HD ?
Did you guys forget about the Wi-Fi thing with the HTC One X? About it being a manufacturing problem which should have been corrected by now but its nice to keep it in mind if you're gonna get a One X

I would be very keen to hear your review. Any reason why youre going with the one x over the one xl with Telstra?
Personally when my contract is up in October I will be going with the one xl with Telstra as the 4g speeds are so fast, i tested one down at my local telstra shop and was very impressive. Also I'm currently using my desire z on the optus network and I'm just over optus's crappy 3G speeds, it hangs too much.
if you want to play games better, get one x. lots of games has nvidia support right now and the graphics difference on games with tegra support are really big between s3 and one x.
if you dont want to play games, get one x anyway.

1 im not going to buy this with an contract
2 the S3 is better than a iphone in drop tests, thats what i want
3 while testing, i could still experience some lag, and i dont like sense, uses way to much memory
4 and i want to try another launcher
5 the S3 offers an removable battery and a SD card slot, those are the main reason i dont want a one x

i still want the S3 because the processor is still a little bit better
Hey, and what about Galaxy Nexus? Maybe hardware is not as good as in GS3 or OneX but think about software updates.

I would love to get the xl but for me, it's too expensive. Telstra's idea of a "small" plan isn't exactly small for all people haha. I did try and win the One XL in a couple of competitions though haha, needless to say, I didn't win xD. I was also very impressed when I first tested telstra's 4g speeds at one of their stores. On an HTC Velocity 4g, i saw 3mb/s download speeds :O.
For me though, the issues that others have with the One X don't really bother me. I'm not fussed about using a micro sim, or having a non-user replaceable battery and no expandable storage. Also, development is already massively active for the One X and as such, if Sense doesn't work out for me, then i can just use Slim ICS or one of the many CM9/AOKP ROMs.
The main reason that i'm choosing the One X over the SIII is the build quality though. I dislike using cases and to me, the SIII feels far to flimsy. Otherwise, the SIII is a very admirable phone which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. That's my own opinion though.
So yeah, keep an eye out for my review of the One X that i will post and then update in the following weeks.
One X
If you have the option of holding both devices in your hands, you will probably like the look and feel of X much better.
Please note that both X and SIII have different revisions (Hardware, cpu)
You might want to check which one is available in your area.
Unless you want to root your SIII, touchwiz will be a torture for most sense users.
Sense 4 is lightweight and is running on monster hardware.
so +1 for X
