"OTA" Update for those who have BLG6 fw - Galaxy S III General

it's an update.zip and it's just 5.40mb
i guess this is the localized search they're going to put back.
edit:
i looked into the file and it indeed has the search apk and more like patches and framework

I just updated and local search is back.

here's the official ota update.zip. that's from LG6 to LG8.
copied from cache/fota folder.
hope this could help the devs see what other changes/updates were made since it consists of more apk's than just the well known localized search.
aside from other apk's, there is also a patch folder.
:good:

Hi. I've always thought about this. Some people say something like this
Copy the file aroma-config and updater-script from META-INF\com\google\android\ from 3.1.1 rom.zip to 3.1.2 zip to the same path. He will say v3.1.1 during installation, but he will install 3.1.2 and you can select CLK again.

And what does it mean? When I edit zip file, it doesn't work. Is there a program for this?

Looks like the update (the zip) mentioned in the quote disables a feature on the HD2 that was present before that update. See here - shouldn't you have included that link
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166948&page=1286
To prevent disabling the feature, the quote-poster advises to run the update with the updater script (the script that does the actual updating) replaced by an old version. To do that, download both update versions and replace the mentioned files mentioned in the post in the newest version. Rezip and apply the update.
Not sure if this is a wise thing to do if you don't know more about updating, restoring etc... At least backup your data.
No, it's just when I zip it after update, cwm doesn't want to install this and sees as damaged rom.
But 7-zip can change files in archive no need to unzip all. So it works

Fix for Sprint and 3rd party lollipop roms

I don't know the first thing about Android development, especially making flashable zips, but what I DO know is that I was just able to update my profile and prl on my n5 running the January 9th nighty of cm12. Here's how I did it:
1 extract the zip I'm adding here to your internal storage.
2 copy the extracted folder to your system/app/ folder. As a folder, not just the apk.
3 go through the subfolders until you get to the lib folder, then copy the two files inside to system/lib/
4 set the proper permission for all the files and folders involved.
Now let me be clear, I know this is overly complicated, my hope is that someone can respond to this this thread and post a flashable zip that would make this much much easier. Also I don't know if this will work with any other rom, just the one I have right now.

Pretty sure there was already a few "Sprint fix" zips around lol.
Well now I feel dumb. But happy too because either way I won't have to worry about it anymore.

[Devs only] [I9515] Fixing required for this patch.

Dear XDA,
Can anyone fix this zip file I made. It is for the required WiFi drivers in the patch.

Perhaps you could go into some more detail, such as what the patch is supposed to do, and also what problems you're having.
Off the top, your entire directory structure is messed up. You have one main directory, patch, and beneath that two subdirectories named "META-INF" and "install". META-INF must be in the root of the zip. The "install" directory also must be in the root of the zip, and needs to be renamed to "system" since the files you're trying to copy to the device reside in a folder in /system. Taking a cursory look at your updater-script there seems to be nothing out of the ordinary there.

Flash Stock ROM missing META-INF directory

Kinda makes this noob sick. I just got a new Moto G4 X1625 (not Amazon). Next came the steps to unlock the bootloader with Motorola and to install TWRP. Everything had gone so easily by following some how-to steps I jumped to the next step of installing SuperSU without doing a backup – thinking it was simply adding an app. Big mistake! Reboot and now always stuck on the logo boot animation.
Okay, so I found and tried use TWRP to install ATHENE_6.0.1_MPJ24.139-13.1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip in an attempt to get back to stock. No luck there since install always aborts with a "Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file."
I checked a couple of other ROMs and that META-INF directory doesn't seem to be included in them either.
What do I need to do just to get back to normal eliminating the effects of that SuperSU install? Help greatly appreciated.
That file you downloaded is not a flashable file.
Instead, read this linky
Thanks for the helpful clue @t0mm13b. I followed the approach at <http://www.stechguide.com/download-stock-firmware-of-moto-g4-and-g4-plus/> and executed the listed commands from my MacOS Terminal. They did the job resulting in a fresh install after bootup.
2-1/2 questions…
1. Are flashable ROM files readily available? The ones I found all seemed missing the META-INF directory. Will they be .img files and not .zip?
2. Is TWRP not useful for these stock ROMs?

As a general rule of thumb, read the accompanying text to the link of the download, on a web page where you find one. It will tell you if it's flashable or not.
Factory images, just like what you had to carry out previously, never have, and do not have the `META-INF` directory. They usually contain img files that requires `fastboot flash`.
On the other hand, OTAs and flashable zips will have that in their respective zip file.
Thanks again @t0mm13b for the clarification. I often didn't see info about whether a ROM is flashable in link or web page text, but it may have just been assumed based on being aware of what the zip contains.

[Discussion][ZE552KL] How could I extract just the firmware update of the .zip file ?

Hi,
So I'm actually running LineageOS 16, and I wish to keep it simple and just make the necessary firmware update (for security reasons). I wanted to directly attach the zip file with the correct SKU but the file is too large. And I suppose it can apply for any of Asus' manual update, so.
Here is the link : https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-3-ZE552KL/HelpDesk_Download/
Could I extract the Firmware-update folder from the zip (I reckon it is the one thing I need, in my case) and somehow make an update out of it? I'm not too sure about how to do that, since Asus make it complicated in my opinion.
Thanks for your collaboration!
