Xperia U or P? - Xperia Play General

Hey, well I've more or less broke the phone functionality on my Play (Bent pin inside sim tray) I really dont want to waste any more on repairing it... Anyways I've been looking at replacements and I'm stuck between the Xperia U and P. Right now I'm tipped more towards the P due to memory limitations on the U as I do tend to use quite a lot of storage space. I use a lot of apps, have a large music library etc. Also the P does have better specs but is it worth the price jump? Or do you think I should go with a different phone all together? Any ideas? Thanks

i think u should get another xperia play.

Xperia U Unlocked and brand new costs around $240, so that is a definite good deal to me.
The major bottleneck though is the internal memory of puny 4GB without SD Card slot.
If you keep lots of music and lots videos/games then this is not an option.
If you are ok with not so famous brand, then ZTE has viable options but not that I recommend it.

i have bought the P why?
larger screen
whitemagic screen (really great)
more ram (more update proof)
more flash

Xperia P is very nice in every single detail but it's very expensive for it's features. You should get a galaxy nexus, that's what I would get

i wanted to buy the galaxy nexus.
i tried both (in the shop) and the xperia P is faster!
ok updates will take longer, but if development really starts it is a really great and fast phone.
screen is better the the galaxy nexus
faster
better camera

I'm getting an Xperia S down to the fact that it has 32GB internal storage compared to Xperia P's 16GB, I think now is the time that most of us Xperia 2011 users are considering a new device, I've had this device for a year tomorrow
I would get the Xperia P if it had at least expandable memory, Love the Xperia P aluminium case
Anyway I'm keeping my Xperia Play for gaming.
@OP: Get an Xperia P, More sexiii!!!!! No really it feels REALLY nice in the hand.

Xperia P really is sexy, it's certainly better than U so, here's your answer. But you didn't try GNexus with Jellybean did you? If you did Xperia P would't be certainly the fastest

i am sure when the P gets cm10 (very soon) it will be faster then gnexus and when the official jb comes (end of this year) it will still be faster

Thanks guys, I've tried the Gnexus and I don't think it's as smooth as the P. I think I'll go with the P for more or less the same reasons nick stated, I'm still keeping my play though

I'm thinking of getting an Xperia S in november because Devs have touchpads working on Xperia Ray, etc ports.
Anyway as I said get an Xperia P!

Nice, in fact I just ordered the S. I seen a really good deal that was to good to pass over so I went for it, can't wait

none of them , if you are gamer , if you aren't , then hyabusa or galaxsy s3 or HTC one X

Xperia go or acro S? If you dropped your phone much.xD

If you can live with touchscreen controls for games, I would personally go for the HTC One X.
I wouldn't touch another Sony handset because of their poor record with software updates, they also tend to be overpriced and underspecced.

Then dont go for htc
Their update support is even worse (look at dhd and some other phones)

HTC seem to be doing much better on that score lately.

They the galaxy nexus if or still
on contract. Its 350 from the play store

Go for the HTC Sensation, it has a great developer community and in my opinion better specifications than the U or P.

I want to buy,Xperia arc S but hesitant .

hi for all
i like Sony Ericson Xperia arc S But I am afraid that I buy because of the small internal memory .
Do you already considered this problem for a special and I am a fan of a lot of app installed.
I need to advise you to me .

it depends on what you are looking for in a smartphone..
the sg2 is much powerful then the arc..
but the arc is the most beutiful device ever!!!
take the arc!!!
Using CM 7 frees up a large amount of memory. I have put 31 apps on my phone since Monday (10 on the SD card) and I have 290MB free internally. With CM you can also force apps onto the SD card but I guess some of the apps could have problems if this was done - with 290MB free I have no need to do it.

HOW?! I haven't installed much apps and only have 52 mb free. Top 5 big apps are Google+, Adobe Air, Angry Birds, MtpApp (what is that for?), Adobe Flash Player...
I'm using the native App2SD, that's it
But I don't have much big games in the phone memory, that helps

Are you gonna install all apps in the market? If you do then it will be a problem considering the memory size...
If just a few apps that it shouldn't be a problem as a lot of apps can be moved to microSD.
In terms of rooting the Arc S, is it the same as the standard Arc?

Stop with those flat utterances...
Best 3 phones of the year are SE Xperia Arc, HTC Sensation and the SGS2.
Now we all know that the arc is better than the HTC (in particular Sensation).
Concerning the SGS2 the only thing that makes it better than Arc is the 1GB RAM. Thats all.
Leave all the crap about the dual core at a side its still not at full use as it should be. I still can play all the games available with great performance, as long as the specific dual core games are not released the only big difference between the 2 phones is the 512 extra RAM on SGS2. It will next year when the games and apps will use the full capacity of dual core (and then the Nozomi will be released).
I don't deny that the SGS2 is faster than the Arc, now don't get me wrong, I refuse flat statements that make the Arc look like rubber toy for 3 year old - because its not and because the Arc has something that SGS2 doesn't (and i believe its still more important) it has PERSONALITY.
You might say 'its an Emo comment' but think for a second if the majority says SGS2 is best you buy SGS2, if the majority says jump you jump, cut you veins you cut...then again where is your personality?
What is more important for you?
You tell me.

I totally understand you. I think so, too.
I could have bought the SGS II but I didn't...
Arc is really awesome. The SGS II is a bit faster but that's it. And the Arc has an outstanding design that nothing else has. Arc with more RAM --> best phone
But today most people cry for the highest specs...

it still amuse me when people say sg2 is better then arc
i mean, just face it. s2 is fat, and arc is so damn sexy
all the samsung galaxy series looks the same, its boring imo.
spec wise, s2 has dual-core, but who needs it (for now)
you don't need dual core to play angry birds or tetris or chess or other games that you get from the android market.
sure dual core is faster, if you are browsing the web, especially web that loads flash animation and stuff... but really, the diference is only a few seconds, no big deal..

Well I have X8 one full year and now I'm looking for new phone.
I have eye on Xperia Mini but I don't know should I really but it at the end I'm looking something like X8 so if you have any suggestions please post it.
A goof option for me is the Xperia mini pro,its looks like x8 whit all its weaks points improved, just like processor,camera,etc...and it have a phisical keyboard!

I got the ray it only 210pound in the the o2 shop it faster than the iPhone 4s on loading apps.
screen is clear than the iPhone.
it has 1ghz CPU ram 512 free 8mps can it got gd2.3 super1click working just no fourm on xda fully working sense 3.5 working on it. It is a good fighter for the HTC sensation it is all most as fast as it as I no my wee bro has it and now he is moving over to the ray the iPhone is my wife's and the ray kick ass if u no any1 with 1 just ask them to show you it you like
super.sense 3.5 on x8
If you have some money to spend you should get the Xperia Ray, for me it is very good, but i love the Arc S and if my parents give me permission to buy it, i will buy it, i want a big screen, and a very good Price/Quality'n'Performance relationship, and i have that in Arc S
Some Xperia Ray Specifications:
- Small size, it is easy to use with one hand, like X8
- A High Resolution, wich gives you an almost Retina Display (as the iPhone 4)
- 1GHz processor, fast enought
- 512MB Ram, suficient
- Slim, i like slim phones, X8 isn't slim
- GingerBread 2.3.4 with all his good features, like XLoud, Bravia Engine, Swipe Keyboard (?) + T9 Keyboard (?) (adjustable in settings)
- SE will give it the newest Android ICS
- 8MP Camera, with 720p video recording
- 4GB microSD card included
I might choose x10.
Although it is an old phone, but still better hardware than many almost same range price phone.
Im liking neo. It has exmor camera. Although im still thinking whether to pick neo or ray.

Sorry to barge in this thread
But yesterday I lost my beloved X8. Obviously can't think of any other phone than Android, the question is which one? Shall I go for HTC or retain SE again. Managing fund is the major problem at the moment . And I'm not going for a high end phone. I don't think there is any point in spending big money when you've got Tabs at almost the same (or even cheaper) price than those big shots like i-phone.
That also brings the next question, is it ok if I go for a Tab instead of the smartphone and use bluetooth for making calls. I can have at least 7" screen and phone combined in one package. So which one should I go for?

Yes :-
1-Clear display
2-HDMI
3-Awesome speaker
4-sexy design
5-The Best camera phone. (not better than xperia s)
6-Will recive ICS update officially.
7-good battery life
8-noise cancelling mic
No:-
1- Became Old cause most of new android devices are dual core and quad.
2-Lags alot with ICS .
3-Not good for HD games even when using GB.
4-Overheat from the back when playing games or surfing the web using DATA.
5-when you speak the other side (who listing to you) will hear your voice repeated specially when using the speaker.
6-Less custom roms ( seriously that's why i started making my own roms) than Galaxy or htc users.
*So it depends on you whether you wants high performance device for gaming and fast picture shooting or not .
Don't do it.
It's too old

I want to break some myths about the Xperia S. The screen is .1 inches bigger but the phone is massively bigger due to the screen bezel and the antenna design and does not feel good in hand. The material feels quite cheap for some reason. The Arc isnt a solid phone but feels more solid and is thinner and lighter. I have been using one form of ICS or another since December with Arc (not S) and its as stable and fast as it ever was with GB. The official ICS ROM will make for even better custom ROMs. The camera is marginally better on the S but is not the best by 2012 standards. I hate the feel of capacitive buttons on the S but I guess ICS on screen buttons would take care of that.
The Arc S is a good phone for its current price but I expect development to slow down in a few more months as more and more developers are upgrading hardware. The One X and the One S is definitely the bar right now. The screens, construction, processors and camera are all the best on the market. I have Sony everything so its hard for me to exit the brand so I'm keeping my Arc for one more year but for others, the One is the upgrade for 2012.
I have played with all of the phones above and Arc overclocked feels the same as S.
One S is better in almost every way vs Xperia S. The feel in hand to the performance. The construction is superb aircraft grade aluminum treated to a very nice finish. The only thing you'll miss is NFC but its still not mainstream with enough practical applications right now (it takes two hands to clap). The super AMOLED is not an issue coming from a lower resolution Arc and is a superb screen despite reviews.
One X is hands down the best phone I have ever played with. There are only two things inferior to the One S and thats battery and finish. Its still gorilla glassed front with ultra high impact-resisting polycarbonate, which is very strong and solid but something about that black aluminum magic is so sexy about the One S.
Either get one of the Ones or Arc S. I cant recommend the Xperia S to anyone.

I strongly disagree with this point. With the final update, it will be at least as smooth as GB if not faster. The ICS beta is laggy because of the incomplete/unoptimized 2D acceleration implementation.

I strongly disagree with most of your points.
1. It depends on what you really need and fit best your needs.
2. You can't even know because there is no official ICS yet.
3. Well it is good enough for HD games. Name one, which doesn't run smooth? I can play GTAIII and MC3 smooth (I don't need anymore ).
4. Every phone heats, you just feel it a little bit more because of the thinness. GS2 users whine about that too.
5. Surely not with normal mic, and for the speaker, I personally don't know any device, which has really good speakers.
6. Less custom ROMs? In Samsung and HTC forums there are only more ROMs, because 80% are stock-based. Do you really need that?
@OP: As I said it depends on what you really need. I am very happy with my Arc S.
BTW: Next time you could search and post your question in Q&A.

1- Agree maybe i should wait then judge the Arc s with the official ICS hoping it will become better .
2-GTAIII is playable but with few glitches ...
* I used to be happy with my arc but not after i saw the benchmarking of GSII ... And the face unlocking on ICS .
I'd say Arc S is one of the best phones in that price range. I admit the processor and GPU are kinda crappy, but it's still capable of running HD games(such as Asphalt 6, MC3, GTA3 etc.) without noticable lag!
Arc has a lot of custom roms. Phones like i9000 has more roms, but why do we need hundreds of different roms, because we all know that only some of them are good!
One thing I really love in my Arc is the screen! It's large enough(Frankly, I think larger would be too big), it has good resolution, and it hard to damage(it is more scratch-resistant than ie. Gorilla Glass).
And don't you say ICS is laggy! They haven't even released the final build! I believe Arc has a good potential of running ICS.

1. I am sure Sony won't release some laggy ****. We should be way more happy with Sony for even releasing a alpha/beta version.
2. IMO, It depends on the ROM. I haven't had any on CM7 and stock based ROM like Arconium.
But still it hasn't enough RAM, apps need more and more RAM.

I tried xperia s and find it heavier, worse picture quality, worse design and i missed the physical buttons. So i stick with arc S, still my fovorite so far.
I felt the build quality was poorer than the arc. Wasn't as big a step forward as is claimed, tbh.
isnt the dual core do nothing for it??
I was all for getting one, until I had one in the hand, two big for my liking. I really want my next Phone to be Sony, but if they continue the trend of creating bricks like most manufactures seem to be doing these days then I'll stick with my S.E and I might just upgrade to the Arc S.
I don't want a mini tablet as a Phone.
Wait for the GX guys, it's true Arc successor.
I'm waiting for SX to replace my Ray
I think 4-4,3 inch is the limit for the smartphone. Everything above is... tablet. Arc S is good enough for me.
I think the bigger a phone the better, I thought the xperia s looked good in the pictures but when held it irl it feels fat and the bezel looks really thick (big turnoff). But I'd still go for performance over design.
Sent from my Arc S with JJ's ROM installed + stock kernel.
What I didn't like:
Soft buttons are terrible - often takes 2 or 3 taps for then to work. Very frustrating.
Terrible battery life on the latest ICS F/W.
Heavy and uncomfortable to hold for long.
Bravia engine doesn't work on latest ICS F/W.
Power Saver app completely useless.
Sony UK refusing to repair screen tint issues if you've unlocked the bootloader.
Occasional hang when using the Quick Launch camera button.
Fonts too small for me - and using Large option only works in some apps and is ignored by Timescape, etc.
The flap on the USB port won't last long.
Stupid menu design for the launcher.
Widget picker takes 5 seconds to appear.
This phone looks great on paper but feels half-finished to me. I can see why the reviews were so lacklustre now.
So I'm back using my arc S which I will keep until I've saved up for a Galaxy Nexus. Sony have done a poor job of ICS and I they no longer have my trust. Why can't they produce a couple of excellent devices instead of releasing mediocre phones every few months? The mind boggles.
I did like the new Walkman app though - by far the best music player I've used on Android.
I find it ridiculous when people say " the bigger the phone, the better." Perhaps ego issues to compensate for something else ? Lol
Seriously, it is silly to put a tablet sized phone next to your eat. Just don't, please, for the love of god.

I'd hang fire, I've got 8 months left on my contract so I've got plenty of time to see what Sony can come up with in the future. I was going to sell my Arc the other week and get a Ray as I was wanting something smaller but after some thought decided to stick with the Arc in the end. There's nothing that I really like when I look at line up on GSMArena, maybe the Arco S but I'd have to hold it before deciding.

Soft buttons ARE terrible, even calendar launcher(lower left corner) interrupts with user interaction.
a mid range / mid end device doing a very nice job. even hdmi output is surprisingly smooth.
well, fairly spoken I had no expectations with ics, even sony's official website claims that, I never understood that, why some people got confused with "improved" performance and "speedy" UI, they both are different things.
I disagree.
For its price... Arc/Arc S was a loot when it was launched.
I now own both an Arc and an Xperia S. No doubt arc is the best designed fone any manufacturer ever made, but it is way too short on horsepower. Even on gingerbread, the contacts app lags if you cross over 500 contacts. So does the messaging app.
Arc users keep dwindling and shifting around custom ROMS trying to find the perfect one. And we all know after a few days of use and installing chunk loads of apps, the fone just struggles to keep up as a BASIC PHONE (it runs applications well though).
Arc is indeed a great fashion statement but as a basic phone, even my dads ZTE Blade delivers better.
Xperia S is thicker but works like a charm! Wish it's speaker was as loud as arc though

100% true. When I first booted JJHybrid 3.2 it was a rocket comparing to stock ICS. Now with few apps instaled (<30), everything lags, even keyboard, which should be one of the main things in phone. Looks like, arc S in my last Sony phone.....from now on I am 85% sure, my next phone will be Galaxy Nexus.

I did like the new Walkman app though - by far the best music player I've used on Android.

I haven't looked at PowerAmp for about 6 months. I didn't like it much though but will take another look.
It's much better than any other music app I've found.

Hard choice? Sony Xperia Z or HTC One

Hi Guys!
After spending hours and hours on forum, test etc... I'm currently hesiting between the HTC One or Sony Xperia. I like both disign but I order the Xperia for the moment because good package in belgium. The phone + Bluetooth speaker + Dock for 649 euros.
But the HTC One processor seems better the Sony Xperia?
Please Help me in my choice :'(
Go for Xperia Z, it is better! Htc gives poor user support.

Ok But why it's better? I like both disign what about the processor? Snap Dragon 600 is better than the 400 Pro?
Obviously everyone on Z board will suggest you Z, and HTC One on One board. So ask this question in General forum.
But the best advice really is to test both devices yourself and get the one you like more. Simple as that
If you're sitting on your Phone and like to run Benchmarks all day then go for the HTC.
The processor of the XZ is more then sufficient. Making the choice due to a more overpowered processor seems odd

XZ has water and dust proof with cool camera. And much more functions! Even XZ has 400Pro, keep in mind that HTC Sense takes more memory and heavier.

Lol no I don't care about benchmarks Just bad experience with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. Lag ,.. even after changing the rom to cynogen mod.
And I come from the Iphone 5 so I'm hoping for the same fluidity experience than on IOS That's all
I like the "Aluminium" disign on the HTC One but the disign of the Sony Xperia Z White looks incredible too Both are great But just I can't wait until march for the HTC One except if there is a good reason

Please note that the aluminum is easy to be scrached off, and the color when scrached off is different color :/

These are the biggest selling points for each when you compare the two:
Xperia Z
Lighter, more consistent skin
Praised, very slim design
Waterproof
SD slot
HDR Video
HTC One
Slightly faster
Better display (probably)
Special camera software (Zoe)
Better speakers
More internal memory
Aluminium body
Just take your pick. For me it was easy, the lighter skin of Sony adds a lot of functionality I really like (good Walkman and Album apps) while HTC's skin is a bit chaotic at times, almost like each app is designed by a completely different team. I don't have any experience with the HTC One in specific but this was the case on all past HTC's with Android and I don't expect it to have changed that much. If you prefer pure speed and hardware power the HTC One is probably the better choice.
If viewing angles and or speakers are important to you take the HTC else take the one you really want
Yeah true. Another point is on my iphone , when I have a call, I always have headshake. All the time. I check on the internet and I see that the DAS of the Iphone 5 is 0,92 and the Sony Xperia Z das is 0,55!!! Almost Half!
That's one of the reason why I want to switch to another phone cause I can't stay with my iphone next to my head more than 3 min or I directly have an headshake
4UP UltraPixel rear camera
If you don't really addicted to the 4UP UltraPixel rear camera and iPhone appearance and Sense TV, I think there is no need to change Sony Xperia Z to HTC One.
The BIG + of the Sony I think is that you have a SD Port. It Mean that you have have infinite Mémory. Have 2 or 3 SD Card of 32 Go with you in your wallet and store movies etc
Easy choice.
Xperia Z.
I had to Rma 3 one X's and although the screen was amazing and I did like sense, not enough to get me back.
Cant wait to get XZ.

Don't forget about battery life too mate and xperia z is better to me because it has expandable sd card slot

Hooo What do you mean? That the battery of XZ is better?
Yeah the sony look better and no need to wait 4 weeks And the welcome package is better. Bluetooth Speakers and Dock free
Really and truely this isn't going to help you decide I don't think.
My advice is like what I did myself is go and play with the two phones side by side and test everything out side by side and then decide which is better for you.
I could say One is better because XYZ but those could be for my needs not yours or person B will say Xperia Z again same thing that could be because that is what is suited to them.
The end of the day I am putting money into either HTC or Sony's pocket not the other way around - so there is no need for me to be biased about anything.
I know you right. It's just that It's also so difficult to switch from Iphone 5 to Android cause of my bad experience with the Samsung Tab 2 that I'm hesitate. Firstly I want to buy the XZ because I'm spending a lot of time on my smartphone and the screen of an iphone 5 is a little too small for me.
Now I like the disign of the XZ
Now the most important thing is XZ is the same in term of fluidity than the Iphone 5?? That's my main fear !
Someone says xperia z have hdr, ant htc one dont. That is fake.
Htc one have HDR, and even front camera have HDR.
Also this guys says sd card, that bunch of people talking what they dont even know what they thinking.
I got xperia s (32GB) i have 1500 songs various format, 3000pictures and 2-3 HD movies.
You know what? I got almost 8-10gb to waste. So thing with sd card as pros or cons tell your children not your self.
Sd card was problem before, when phones got low internal memory.
