Vortex RC1 wifi issues - Droid X General

I'm currently using a Milestone X (Droid X without the "Droid") and after rooting it, I flashed the Vortex RC1 rom on rootzwiki that had been modified for those of us on the .604 phones. Put holo launcher on it and so far I love it. Super snappy and the added perks are great. However, there is one MASSIVE problem: I can't connect to Wi-Fi.
I've been reading up on various websites about potential fixes, and after trying several (reflashing the rom, clearing the cache/dalvik cache, using terminal emulator, using the wifi FXR app), none of them have worked. I seriously need wi-fi connectivity on my phone, but I really don't want to go back to stock rom. Anyone who can help me?

Fission rom and 3G issue?

Anyone running the fission rom seeing a 3G issue of any kind?
Not 3G but WIFI
I have 2.3.1 installed and have WIFI issues but I think its more my phone than the ROM.
You may want to check your radios version. In looking through the various ROMS I saw a couple of ways you could end up not updating the radio drivers, especially when mixing the OTA and ROM upgrades.
If you find yourself in this position it may be wise to SBF and then install Fission so you start with a clean slate, but thats a lot of work. The current radio drivers are 1.09.07P for the Droid X.
I'm having issues with both. I constantly have to connect, then dis/reconnect because my wifi won't transfer can data after several minutes of use.
I wouldn't think my problem would be with the radio as I just SBF'd before flashing 2.3.1.

[Q] I'm on the leaked GB 4.5.573 - any sense in upgrading?

Everything is working flawlessly for me, I have had zero issues with this ROM since day one. Maybe I just don't use the phone enough or really stress it, but I have yet to come across any quirks on this leaked 4.5.573. Everything works - gps, netflix, any apps I download, corporate sync, etc. etc.
Is there any sense in upgrading to the latest official OTA GB? I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it...right? Or are there compelling reasons to go ahead with the official OTA? And if the answer is YES UPGRADE, what's the best way to do this considering I'm on 4.5.573 right now? BTW, I'm on Cricket.
I've got this same question. I want to upgrade for several reasons, but what I've read on several sites is that we have to do the SBF thing back to 2.2, then upgrade.
Almost none of the threads I've read at several sites even mention .573 anymore, so I'm not exactly sure of the route to go.
Why do you want to upgrade? Are you running into problems? Unless there's a good reason to upgrade I'd prefer not to, especially if I have to SBF in order to upgrade. That means I'll have to re-do my Cricket flash which I've probably done 50 times now but I'd prefer not to have to do it again.
hey guys,
i am on version 596 of gb, the official version. and i would highly recommend upgrading, there is a new kernel and new baseband. that means the phone runs more smooth and you have cleaner calling and stuff. i have noticed a big improvement in the new kernel and stuff. it would be very beneficial to upgrade in my opinion.
^^^
Those were the reasons I wanted to upgrade. Performance took a GOOD bump in the updates after .573
I just followed the instructions here...
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...new-full-sbf-droid-x-2-3-340-a.html#post56464
Method 2 worked for me, the first one wouldn't detect my phone. I got a boot loop after it finished so I booted into recovery and cleared the cache/data factory reset.
Now it's all fine.
Now to find the right set of GB update roms.
you'll want the updated radio found in the later versions and .596 runs buttery smooth. about a week of heavy use not one reboot or crash.
I gotta say, I'm VERY glad I did it. It was smooth and quick before, but good lord, this is CLEAN.
Not one reboot, not one crash, all NOICE!
i'm on 4.5.573 with root and the phone has been running crazy slow for the last week. will this work? i'm trying method 2 but it will not recognize my phone.
thanks!

I would reccomend updating to a newer version from team black hat. Its faster, smoother, the blur is different (better) and best of all, pre rooted.

[Q] Need advice for most stable ROM (it's not for me!!!) and I am not DX user

Hi,
I just purchased a used Droid X to replace my mom's OG droid. I read as much as I could on rooting the DX and all that jazz (completely different coming from an HTC by the way... holy hell and I am sorry).
I have already rooted the Droid X, installed boot strap... etc.
Made a backup using recovery.
I searched the forum for "most reliable ROM" and came up with rubix 2.0
I flashed it through recovery and ended up stuck at the boot motorola logo.
Panicked and stressful I have to say! WTF! Now I understand why it sucks so much to have a locked bootloader. You CAN'T boot into recovery to flash your back up! Well at least I couldn't. I tried the home button, search button boot up method and didn't work. I was getting worried....
After reading more... I SBF'd it which is a completely new thing to me. It ended up being easy but it's really lame coming from the Incredible and Thunderbolt. Again, I now feel your pain!
Anyways, I really DO NOT want to go through that again. Do you have any idea how hard it was to find a downloadable SBF file due to the megaupload shutdown!!!! I have just re-rooted after using the SBF file found here: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/09/06/droidx-gingerbread-4-5-602-sbf-released/
So after all that I am just going to ask.
What is the most reliable ROM and what SBF file do I have to download to be compatible with it???
Remember... this is for my mom... I need a reliable, stable, bug free ROM. This ROM will likely be the one she will use indefinitely so please choose one that is as stable as can be.
Thank you for all your help.
That SBF is perfect for the newest roms.
The DX is on .605...but the kernel doesn't change at all so there is literally no change if you accept the OTA or not.
Stable GB Rom...
I haven't messed around with 1st init (blur based) for a long time...so I can't say for certain.
But as far as 2nd init goes...
I'd choose MIUI.
She'll love it.
Actually, I flashed MIUI to my mom's X (who is completely tech-retarded) and she has been on it for a good 3-4 months now...
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11858-ro...charge-led-updated-bootmenu-charge-while-off/
The newest build includes a working "boot menu" that can get you into CWM from a power-off state if you ever need it.
Also...
Once you flash...
I'd HIGHLY recommend using said bootmenu to set her overclocking speeds / cpu governor.
I assume she won't be to worried about speed...
So I'd either underclock her a tad...
Or leave her at stock.
But be sure to set the CPU governor to "SmartassV2"
The phone sleeps like a champ.
Literally the second you turn the screen off...the phone sleeps...and stays asleep until a notification/screen is turned on.
FANTASTIC battery life due to this.
I mean...stellar battery.
Also, it's VERY stable.
No bugs what-so-ever...
My signature also has a DX specific rom install tutorial if you'd like a refresher on the DX.
The stock ROM isn't bad. We have a few users in my office that still use it and they have no problems at all. I like to flash a lot and I am currently on MIUI (ICS) but I am thinking about going back to Vortex. It is by far the most stable ROM I've found on the Droid X.
The best Blur ROM I flashed was Liberty 3 v2, great speed, battery etc. CM4DXGB is the best ROM I have ran, I have tried most of them and CM7 is my go to daily driver. Great overall performance, very fast, great battery once you get settled in and awesome customizations. I flashed it on my dads phone and he loved it, my Mom still has a flip phone! Haha

I wouldn't try liberty as a new user, there is a lot of customization that can confuse someone IF they aren't experienced. Apex has two days of battery life when calibrated so i would choose apex. no bugs and incredibly smooth!

I am currently using MIUI 2012.2.1 after trying liberty and one other. I really like it, but as is expected after rooting, i want to play around. Although after reading your post, not so sure. MIUI really is great. I can go 2 days without recharging if i shut down at night. I did manage to get into a boot loop requiring an SBF etc. This was traumatic, but now i know how my phone works!
So I would like to try CM7. I downloaded the latest for the Droid X. I guess MIUI does not let rom manager install roms so i have to use clockwork. No problem. Is there any thing i need to do special since i am on a 2-init rom? Do i just do a dalvik wipe, then install the zip?

WIFI crapping out upon connection

My WIFI network at home is visible and it showed full connectivity until I connected to it. It took a while but finally connected then showed no signal and disconnected, then showed full again, then tried to connect again, you get the idea. I have tested this with AOKP and Gummy with the same result. ALSO, I prefer to keep the network hidden but on setup, I hit "Save" it says "Setup has Stopped Working." I have seen this problem on AOKP and Gummy, the two ROMs I prefer at this time.
Root and ROM process I use:
- Started with stock Droid X (.621), SBF'd .604 through Linux (actually Windows the first time then had to call Verizon to fix. They were less than helpful until I got mad. I won't do that anymore)
- Zergrushv4 root through Windows
- Installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper
- Booted into ClockworkMod and formatted the various data's
- Installed ROM (AOKP build-39 is latest)
- Installed .604-to-.621-kernel-update (same result without doing this) <-- Currently running 15p radios if that matters.
- Installed Gapps
- Reset and performed initial setup
For sht's and gigs, I also tried installing the WIFI lib fix (I know it is for Blur) but that prevents AOKP from ever booting. It just sits on the rotating unicorn splash screen until I get bored and cut it off after 10 minutes. From there I have to go back to Linux and SBF .604. Ideas?
I was a noob as of last week but have learned a lot because of these forums. This is the first time I have had to post to get a question answered because there is so much good info out there. I appreciate the mostly accurate and educational information that is openly shared in this community.
EDIT: I tried SBF-ing .621 through RDS in Windows and then .604 in Linux. It is acting the same with Liberty (tried the wifi lib fix), and Cyanogen 7 and 9.
Does it connect to the network when on stock based roms or Gingerbread based roms?

It connects fine with the .621 and the .604 .sbf's
I just tried CM7 and that wouldn't even install (after a fresh .604 load)
I need to find another good Gingerbread to load and try that. Suggestions? Pref not blur
I got Vortex working with the WIFI. I would REALLY like to get away from Blur though. Suggestions?

Vortex is about as close as you can get to a blurless stock based ROM.
Have you tried MIUI to test the WiFi?
There is a Gingerbread version and an Ice Cream Sandwich version.

OK, crisis averted. I don't know 'why' but it is.
Before, when I was trying to get everything working the ROM Manager load of Clockwork wasn't working at all, I was stuck using the Droid 2 bootstrap. For whatever reason I tried using the ROM Manager again to load Clockwork and flashed AOKP to find that everything worked out of the box.

I did try MIUI a while back but didn't care for the UI.
Stupid Noob question. Will it benefit me at all to install the .604 to .621 image update with 2nd init ROMs?

CM10 Nightlies for Fascinate!

Just noticed that fascinatemtd is finally being included on the CM10 nightlies! I've been following the Jelly Bro roms up to last week. Although I've been using it as my daily driver, I'm looking forward to even more stability.

JT's last build (19 August) had zero issues for me. Last night I dirty-flashed to the 8-23 nightly (after wiping caches) and all is well including app installs with market.

is anyone running the nightly on a alt carrier ?
if so can i get a link to the fix
The wifi reception on the 8/24 nightly with devil kernel 1.2.1 is not as strong as on ths ics build 15 with devil 1.1.3
Smoother than ics, but doesn't feel quite as fast.
What CWM are people using. I was running 7.2 and tried flashing while CWM 3 was installed, it rebooted in CWM 6 and it said it installed fine, but im stuck on the Cyanogenmod boot screen for like 10 minutes...
also is there a way to turn a ROM ZIP file into something I can use Odin to flash it with? I can get into recovery, but I dont ahve a mini USB reader to install a new ROM on.
I was running build 15 teamhacksung ICS, then went to 8/24 build CM10.. cleared all cache, etc, installed cleanly. Loved jelly bean, but it's still very half baked, not usable as an every day phone.
Just went back to CM9 nightly, into which teamhacksung ICS was rolled into today, and everything is nice and quick again. will go back to CM10 when the bugs are worked out.

Really?? 8/24 nightly and all of Jt's builds before that worked great. Very snappy and I've had zero problems. I haven't been back to ICS since probably JT's second build. The nightlies or paranoid android are what I use now daily, and I haven't had a bug problem in quite some time.
I'm been on CM10 8/19 nightly since it dropped. Everything works. I use it heavily for work and personal.
I've put off updating my ROM to another nightly, because it takes me a hour or two to get everything restored back the way I want it. Seems you really do need to do both wipes and a cache flush, then flash ROM, then latest JB apps, to assure best results. I've tried cutting corners twice, and both times, it's bit me in the ass.
Kind of hoping they'll hit a "stable" point on the nightlies soon, and I'll catch up then. I ran CM9 happily for about a month, but I'm so pleased with the additional smoothness, stability and additional features of JB, I haven't looked back since I switched.

Strange, I have the exact opposite experience. I install everything clean, never cut corners.. CM10 seems to have some memory leak.. it start out really beautiful and smooth.. within hours, it's not usable. CM9 remains stable for days in a row, so i'm back to that for a while.
I've been using the nightly CM-10 builds since 8/23. What's the consensus? If I want to flash to the latest build, do I need to wipe the data and cache?
Thanks!

That's been my experience, and the thing holding me back from upgrading right now. Definitely going to flash to the latest by this weekend, to see if there are any changes/improvements.
I'm just glad I haven't experienced any memory-leak type behavior. I will admit, though, that I've had it do the "sleep of death" thing twice in ~2 weeks. It may have come back to life on it's own, but I was impatient and pulled the battery in both instances.
is anybody else not able to send mms ?

I've done a couple of flashes without wiping the data or cache with no ill effect.
Flashed the 9.1.12 CM10 nightly this morning. Only wiped Dalvik cache, nothing else. Kept all my apps/settings. Everything but Google Music was working great, so I flashed the GApps again, went into Play, uninstalled/reinstalled Music, and everything works now.
GPS locks in pretty quickly in GMaps and all of my GApp and 3rd party apps are working normally.
If this continues to be stable, I'll be more likely to flash more nightlies, with fewer days between upgrades.
phone call static
Has anyone experienced static when making phone calls. I was using the 8/26 build and everyone that I called complained that they couldn't understand me because there was a lot of static. I flashed the 9/1 build and I get the samething but a little worst. Other than the static everything is working great.

No static here... I've been running the cm10 nightlies (stock kernel) for about a week without any issues. I updated to the 09-04 build last night after just wiping cache and dalvik, along with a test kernel that JT posted yesterday that's designed to provide a bit more power to the radio in order to maybe fix the intermittent loss of data. So far so good.
One thing - I've had some issues after experimenting with using link2sd (a great tool) to move various apps to /system to save precious space on /data. It seems that after moving Google maps; voice; Gmail; and similar core apps to system, play store reports update after update for the apps I've moved.

i was running SC3 milestone 2 (gingerbread).
i odin'd to stock EH03 then rooted it.
tried flashing the CM10 ROM via CWM recovery 2.5.1.x (red), 3.0.0.5 (blue), and 3.0.0.8 (yellow). they all abort saying that there is an error on the .zip file.
any suggestions?
edit: followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070; stock GB -> THS ICS -> JB. yay!
Anyone else notice that auto brightness isn't working, or maybe it's just me? Using the 9/10 nightly.
Edit: Seems to be working now, before I had all -1's in the light sensor levels but now I'm getting actual values.
