Hi all.
I have searched the forum and can't find any method to permanently remove the Vodafone pre-installed apps from my DHD.
I have used VISIONary to root and have tried Root Explorer and Titanium Backup to remove the programs, either apk's or Uninstall.
All seems find until the phone is rebooted and the apps are restored.
Does anyone know how to stop that happening? Is there some startup script that checks and unpacks?
Or else, is the fact I am temp-rooting in VISIONary something to do with it?
Many thanks in advance to anyone that can help remove this bloat!
I will put a custom rom on later, Cyanogen, but want to hold off on that for a bit.
if you're only doing it until you put on cyanogen, i'd just freeze the apps. that stops them showing in the drawer.
You need to root AND s-off. Follow the guides in the development forum and then you can remove stock apps. The htc bootloader resets itself and reverts to stock so you need a modified bootloader. It's very easy. Just follow the guides.

Thanks to both.
For now I have frozen the apps with Titanium Donate as they are more annoying than damaging.
I will hold of rooting for a bit longer too, usually until I hit some issues or lack of updates.
Again, a big thanks.
I've got a Vodafone/A1 branded Desire HD, and was using Visionary Temproot & the free version of Titanium backup to force uninstall all the branding apps I didn't like.
Worked for me.
In Visionary:
.) Run visionary.sh after root - checked
.) Set system r/w after root - checked
press "Temproot now"
Titanium backup:
Select application and keep finger on it until context menu appears \ force app delete(through recovery exploit)
Just make sure you know what you're doing, I can't see an option to reinstall these apps.
If you reboot your phone these apps will return. Without S-OFF, any pre-installed bloatware will return.

If you do what he says, the apps will remove, but this can be time consuming, to do it individually for each app too.
Yes, I will do that for any apps that chomp resources.
Didn't realise about long press until later
Cheers all.

I have the 32GB Galaxy S 4. I rooted my phone using the motochopper exploit after I received the OTA update to I337UCUAMDB and I also replaced SuperUser with SuperSU. Every time I restart my phone and enter the unlock pattern I am greeted with a prompt to Complete action using Easy Launcher or TouchWiz Home. I have selected both and tried choosing Always or Just once for each choice but after rebooting I am always presented with the prompt again.
Has anyone else seen this or does anyone have any ideas why this prompt is appearing?
Thanks in advance for your help.
If you're rooted, get Titanium Backup and freeze the launcher you don't want. If there's only 1 installed, you won't get the popup.
You can also go to settings/applications and do a "clear defaults" on both, then reboot. Maybe that'll help the choice stick.

I tried clearing defaults and also clearing the cache and data on both but I still got the prompt. I froze EasyLauncher with Titanium Backup and that worked. Thanks for your help!

Is there any other method of accomplishing removal of that that prompt? I do NOT wanna spend 6 bucks a ****ty backup app just to freeze one stupif thing because of a bug in the S4. I have app quarantine but it doesn't allow me to freeze easy launcher.
You can freeze it with the application manager. Just select the one you don't want and where Uninstall usually is you will find "Disable”
You can find this disabling option for system apps when you change to the "All" tab.

Some apps do not allow you to disable within settings. Just support the developers of Titanium Backup and purchase pro and freeze it.

root=free but would have paid for
app quarantine=free allowed me to freeze 25 apps. would have paid for
nottach xposed=free provided 70 extra options
titanium= $6 bucks and does all kids of things i don't care about. all i want is a bug gone that I shouldn't have to pay for
there must be some other way of freezing the app or fixing the bug

Wanting things you shouldn't have to pay for, sounds fair and logical.
Can't you just use ES File Explorer (Free) and delete Easy Launcher then?
Yeah, like the person above just stated...you can use es file explorer or some other root file manager, you don't even have to delete the app...you can freeze it by renaming it!!!
Install es file explorer (free)
Enable root explorer
Mount /system
Navigate to /system/app
Rename the app by placing .bak at the end
Now its no longer recognized as an app due to the .bak at the end instead of .apk, if you want to unfreeze it then delete the .bak part and make sure it ends with .apk
-if your sure uninstalling it won't cause any issues than you can just delete it if you want

I installed ES File manager. Went to Root explorer. Uninstalled Easy Launcher. It said the uninstall failed, however it was removed from the list. I rebooted and no more easy launcher prompt!! THANKS :good:
I started having this same problem yesterday. When I reboot the phone I get prompted to "complete action" either use "touchwiz home" or easy launcher. If I select touchwiz home and set as the default action and reboot I get the same screen again. I'm just wondering what caused this and how I it can be fixed rather then disabling easy launcher.
just forcly close both of them
As some apps are not available or their updates sometimes not possible in the place I am currently living, China, I was looking for another third party app store and found 1mobile app. And just like some of you, traveling from one rom to another rom it was a pain to install over apps from app store in case roms got different build or even android versions, besides restoring apps by titanium backup causes some problems in some cases when I tried to restore my apps. After a while using and searching in 1mobile application I saw a very interesting feature which let me backup my apps by creating a folder called "onemobile_backup" without their data or messing around and restoring apps quickly.
So you can follow my tips if you are interested:
How to Backup
1- open 1mobile app and go to settings
2- go to end of settings option and hit Auto install and give root permission
3- and again hit Auto install and check if it enabled successfully
4- go to "Backup" and check every apps you like to backup
you can also update backup of any app, on "Backed Up tab": lower version in front of apps indicates that you have newer version available so just hit on small "x" behind the app (this would delete backed up app) then switch to "Available" tab and see that newer version is there, again tick and make a backup of new version.
How to Restore
If you already gave root permission skip 1,2,3.
1- open 1mobile app and go to settings
2- go to end of settings option and hit Auto install and give root permission
3- and again hit Auto install and check if it enabled successfully
4- go to "Backed Up" tab
5- tick every app you are going to restore
6- finally hit blue install button
7- wait for a little while and let the app restore your applications one by one
There maybe also similar apps doing the same but I found this app more convenient and quicker besides it's free and can update itself.

Tadaaa its Done.. Now Disable what u want And Save More Battry And Ram.
You Can Also Enable It.
dont want to be an ass
but.......
being root you can delete those system apps like google music, movies, books, etc, all that crap bloatware
i believe if you restart the phone they will be active again, so it is better to delete them, also titanium backup can freeze those apps
Using App Quarantine myself to disable unwanted apps.
If you are rooted you can even freeze apps that usually can not be frozen.
After a restart the apps remain frozen.

No, they will stay disabled even after OTA. Only factory reset brings them back.
Very good way for those without root.

so even if critical apps are disabled on stock , locked , unrooted xt1032, OTA will still be successful?
wont fail due to missing critical system apps?

You can not disable critical system apps. Just try and you will see.
You can disable apps same way from Android too, it is feature.

was just using GSF as a quick example
but back to my original question is it better to enable ALL apps before taking OTA to avoid possible failure?
or will disabled apps still be "seen" during OTA updating?
i have disabled most Motorola apps that can be disabled are they considered critical when updating thru Motorola OTA?

You don't delete anything. You just tell the system not to start or use those apps. And as a worst case scenario, if you screw up something so bad that you can't even use the phone (but by default you cannot disable really critical apps without root and 3rd party software), a factory reset will solve it.

Terrible and dumb advise.
Remove system apps and every ota on any android device from any manufacturor will crash and fail. Are you going to help clean flash stock Android back to functional for Ota's with people who followed this advise? At least advise to put system apps back before applying OTA. (One can remove system apps and install as more battery and recources friendly user-app. But before OTA uninstall those apps and copy back apk's of those system apps).
But like said disable apps (also non-root) or freeze (only root) them solution. With Greenify Pro and Xposed Framework (root) one can Greenify (do not all but only for system non important) system apps. Without root Greenify can (when Greenify enabled in accesibilty options) force close all in Greenify by user defined unwanted still in background running user apps all at once with a shortcut. Not fake like every task killer in Play Store is.
Becareful with system applications!
I agree with the previous post...don't remove system applications unless you know it's not going to be linked to anything of use to you, and even then I would do a backup just in-case...having a broken installation of android simply due to having deleted some system app in an attempt to save a few MB of RAM would be...unfortunate.

and if i did someday i don't care, why? because you are root, you can recover roms, flash, upgrade, etc
and yes, i give advice to people who bricked their phones and give guides and methods of doing it, because bricking phones and recovering them it part of learning
Hey there
How do I completely remove system-bound apps like WhatsApp and Instagram? The only option I am given is to "turn off" the application.
I tried using Titanium Backup but it ended up doing more harm than good so I just updated (redownloaded) the apps from the Google PlayStore until someone can help me achieve that. Would removing the actual .com file from the root directory work? I remember doing that on my HTC to safely remove system apps. If so, where is the folder containing them located?
Thank you for your time.
I completely disabled all unwanted apps (also system apps) using Package Disabler Pro (Samsung), no root required.

Removing system apps, does that make the phone go crazy?
"System apps" means all the apps you can't uninstall using the app manager.
Many of them installed by Samsung are bloatware or completely useless, unused and then unwanted.
Those apps can be safely disabled (not uninstalled), this process is reversible at any time.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, disabling the app (WhatsApp in this case) did not do it for me, simply because I'm trying to replace it with another application, in this case WhatsApp Plus.
I ended up removing all its files manually, which left it in the PlayStore with an "update" option, so I updated it and then uninstalled it. I don't know how I did it or how that worked, but it did!
