Official UK ICS release - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi guys,
Anyone had the ota update yet on the UK?

Nope but eagerly waiting for it. Haven't really used my tab due to its rubbish performance so far. But you most likely will cure cancer by the time samsung release the update.

Eagerly waiting for GT-P7510... to be honest I not keen on the official update, just because I not a fan of TouchWiz... but new touchwiz might be a surprise who knows - if it ever makes it to our devices..
I just hope that the update/drivers for camera, etc gets through to the community somehow and we should be in for a Jelly Bean treat. Can't believe Samsung will get around to that any time this year!

also looking forward to the kernel sources being released. should make the ICS experience even smoother!

Cannot connect to update server - Ice Cream Sandwich coming?

I noticed that I cannot connect to the update server today. It was working fine yesterday. Maybe it's down while the get an ICS update prepared??? Hopefully?
Wishful thinking right there. But I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will get ICS soon after the official release of it.
I hate to dash your hopes, but i'm guessing you've never had a samsung device before. We'll get ics sometime, but it will take a while to bake touchwiz into it.

It will be months after the Nexus is released before any other device gets ICS. That's always the way it has been in the past.
Oh...oh well. I should just delete this post so I don't get anyone's hopes up.
but i thought the code was "one os that runs everywhere" .. so are they still going to bake touchwiz patches into it? i thought every tablet and the phone would look the same..
one more thing; are they going the release the nexus and the ice cream sandwcih or just going to announce it?
Our biggest hope of seeing ICS with in near future is Team Hacksung. hopefully there will be a CM version now when ICS source will be released. And that will be so F*****G SWEET!
If I know Samsung...
...it should arrive just before the next version is rolled out.
I love Samsung products but you just don't see timely updates.
It might be coming to the I/O version of the 10.1 as that has remained as pure Honeycomb.

actually Steve Kondik has several galaxy tab 10.1
so i expect that once ICS src comes to the public (usually a bit after the first device gets release) CM will start working on it...and that normally takes like a month or two for the firsts nightly
remember when GB came..it came in Nov and the firsts CM7 nightlies came in about Mid Jan..
So a long way to go..
I say by Feb next year we would get a better idea of where things are now is too too early LOL
I just hope we have a chance of getting it on our tabs =/
I hope I'll win the newyear lottery this year, probably more chance also.

ICS planned release for SGSII

Just found this over at GSM arena, not sure if its already been posted, couldnt find any and if so, moderators, feel free to delete this thread.
Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note to get ICS in March
The development of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note is obviously progressing according to schedule. The Norwegian branch of the South Korean company just confirmed that the update is due to arrive at the end of this quarter, which means that there are just a couple of months left before the wait is finally over.

Can't wait
The initial excitement has well and truly worn off for me i dunno why but i got it into my head we would have it before xmas and im like meh at this stage, obviously ill flash it but probably about a month or two later the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be released and undoubtedly that will come loaded with ICS so that is the only other phone ill get asides from this, i haven't even flashed another ROM in about 7 weeks a record since i came on here, not even fussed anymore to be honest the phone is running fine as it is and unless something pretty remarkable appears before ICS i doubt i will.
Cant wait ladies and gents! Just hope samsung sneaks in an option to disable f ing touch wiz

Android 4.0 was officially launched at Ice Cream Sandwich release event on 19 October 2011.The source code for Android 4.0 became available on 14 November 2011.
Isn't it pathetic that Samsung cant release ICS update even for its flagship phone 'Galaxy S2' even after 3.5 months after the official ICS release? With the Android release cycle being 6 to 8 Months, 3.5 to 4 months is a long time for update release.
am I the only one that cant really see that many pro's to ics?? I flashed a few roms with ICS already and its not much different from gingerbread. Having the newest software is nice, but samsung really did a wonderfull job gingerbread.

+1, except that I never had any initial excitement really. Froyo to Gingerbread - while welcome - wasn't earth-shattering in terms of new functions etc, and I can't see GB to ICS titillating me immensely either. Very little I don't like about Gingerbread.
Been on the same ROM for 9 weeks, a new PB (have flashed updates though).
I'll just wait patiently for the SGS3 - Samsung would have to bork it quite spectacularly for me not to buy it.
Looking forward to trying this out, but not expecting the world to change.
Agree with the touch wiz comment.

Isn't it there already as a two step process?:
1. Install another launcher.

Seriously?
shouldn't a leak arrive earlier? I mean maybe that release date is for kies, progress on the leaks has been quite good, or is it just wishful thinking
It's really pathetic for Sammy's, they're doing it so slow.
We all know that it will be just "Touchwized android 4.0", so why there is such delay in progress?
I would wait without single shout, if
they release it with tw5.0, but, probably, tw5.0 is saved for GS3

JellyBean

Google is releasing the SDK out to developers today for JellyBean. That is good news for the Dev Community.
I'm nervous about the new graphics and rendering system upgrades.
This may affect our portability with certain closed source drivers.
I'm having second thoughts about this phone. If I want to go through the slow upgrades again. GS2 doesn't have official ICS yet and JB is out.

I think he means for sprint. We still don't have an official update on sprint.
I am nervous and freaking out about JB since we don't have it yet (so what if it hasn't rolled out yet).
Knowing Samsung it will be like 12 years before it ever comes out and worse than that Sprint will still be charging us $10 a month for premium data even after they roll out LTE.
I'm freaking out over this"

Here is a Android 4.1 Jelly Bean SDK Image System Dump
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736529
EDIT: and 4.1is available thru SDK manager for download
If tmobile does officially release Jellybean don't expect for it to show up soon. it took 7 months!!!! for ICS to be rolled out on the GS2.
And just as soon as I get a phone with ICS, its not obsolete. Awesome... maybe JB will hit the SGS3 by next summer.
Well lets just hope that the Devs will be able to make some magic happen for our devices using the new "Project Butter" they are implementing in JB.
Idk I'm reconsidering maybe returning and waiting for the next nexus. Google will roll out with the update in mid July and the gnex will receive it via OTA. It just sucks how carriers take such a long time to make sure their bloat works. At&t and Tmobile just barely had ICS roll out on GS2 and I don't think sprint has even been upgraded officially yet.

There is no new phone that Google is revealing. Jellybean will only be on the nexus s, galaxy nexus and nexus 7 tablet. I have high hopes that developers will be able to get a working CM version of jellybean on this sgs3
It's almost certain that their will be custom roms of the latest Android OS long before CDMA Nexus' get it. Not to mention the new Nexus will have underwhelming specs. I say hold on to your S3.
Looking forward to a CyanogenMod 9.1 (or would that be 10?)
Considering how new this phone is and the inevitable huge developer support once everyone gets their phones I'm not too worried about not having this for long.
Besides... I am perfectly happy with ICS. I haven't found a need or an issue that would make me irritated by not having something in JB. That's technology and software for you. There is always something right around the corner that is better.
Be happy with what you have, always seeking the newest greatest thing will drive you crazy and/or broke.

[Poll}Android JB 4.1 for the Note, Possible for the Note

Hello! I thought I'd start this thread just to see what you guys think about the current devices getting 4.1.
It doesn't look like Samsung have been pushing ICS too hard after its initial update. Could it be possible that they're working on 4.1? It looks like hardware isn't an issue .
4.1 will come right with the note 2. And maybe with enough outcry of the comunity we will get it too but defenetly after the note 2 release. Thats how it's been in the past....
Tweets from SamMobile:
- Android 4.1 for Galaxy SIII #sgs3 Q3 2012.
- No information about Android 4.1 for SII and Note yet. Both devices will see Android 4.0.4.
-----------------
When you talk about the Note, they need to solve brick bug problems and then maybe think about the latest version of Android. If you look when the ICS update arrived, I wouldn't expect Jelly Bean soon. Even if it comes, it will be crippled by the Touch Wiz.
I guess that CM9 will pack all those goodies from JB 4.1.
Even if it doesn't get an official 4.1, the note will almost guaranteed get cm10. Nice they are at least giving us 4.0.4 though.

Don't want samsung to give us the Jelly beans. I am sure our developers like CM will surely get us one asap. Awaiting for the next release of CM10

That will be CM9.1 not 10. Android 5 will be CM10.
But yeah, i don't care if we'll get it official from Samsung or not. As long as our developers get it running on the Note, i'm all good.
Upgrade life cycle for Samsung is usually 18 months. The note was released in November 2011.
Jelly bean is being released to developers and operators in mid july, with first handsets and tablet (asus nexus 7) for release around October/November.
I reckon we'll get it as our final update. Pretty certain galaxy s2 is nearing the end of its update cycle around now.

More than possible in my opinion
Who else updates firmwares as much as samsung?
The note was one of the first device to have ice. Samsung do work.
But i guess haters are just going to complain.
2.1 2.2 2.3 2.3value pack updated galaxy s
Was cursed it didnt get ics.
Besides what is the point of complaining on the first day of its release when previous sold nexus phones didnt even get them

It would be VERY odd if JB was not CM10, and against everything we have seen in the past.

If the kernel requirements is the same as ICS then Jellybean port should be quick and easy.
Cool! I am keeping up the hope with Samsung. The device has been out for less than a year, I really hope it gets updated officially.

S5 Touchwiz UI for S4?

Is there any chance that Samsung will officially update the Touchwiz UI on S4 to match that of Galaxy S5?
While new Android versions have continued to be released for Galaxy S4, the UI has hardly changed. Even Note 3 has a different Touchwiz than S4.
HTC on the other hand has committed to releasing the new Sense 6 for the old HTC One. :good:

Hopefully they do, theres no real reason not to, other than they want more people to buy the S5 than hang on to their S4.
The S3 got some of the S4 features/change when it got the last update to 4.3, so we should see some further changes, but probably not for a while as @modyt suggests.

Yes, I had read about the updates that came to S3 with the JB 4.3 update. But if Samsung is waiting to push UI changes with a new Android version update I think it will be quite a while (December 2014 or later may be).
@modyt - Thanks for those links. If I have to root then I am looking forward to CM ROM. Hopefully the sound bug will be solved by then.

Thats true, 4.4.3 looks like it is being tested at the moment by Google, so could be rolling out in the next month or so (obviously a bit longer to reach non-Nexus devices). Then there will be Google I/O in June (?) time, with the possibility of another update then. The next update could be around October/November when the Nexus 6 is likely to be released. Either way a lot of the S5 stuff has already been hacked to work on our S4, so if you're happy to go down the unofficial route for now you can.

That really let me feel so bad about Samsung, they just know how to release new smartphones but then they forget to update it.
