SGS3 and OTG (external HDD and card reader simultaneously) - Galaxy S III General

So I am going to Africa in October and don't want to bring my laptop. My ideal plan is to get an OTG adaptor, USB hub connected to a card reader and external HDD, and use a file transfer program to copy from card to HDD.
Is this possible? If so, what do I need to look at buying?

Card Reader?

I'm wondering if it's somehow possible to plugin a USB card reader into the mini-USB plug, so I could for instance, use it to transfer pictures from my digital camera etc.
Longshot maybe, but does anyone know if it's possible?
No it's not. You need a usb host device, which is typically a pc, to control usb slaves.
Wizard is not enabled to act as a usb host.

Oh well, worth an ask
What about some sort of convertor/adaptor for the mini SD slot?

[Q] Tab 10.1 with USB hub via USB adapter?

Hey,
Does anyone here have the USB adapter for their Samsung Tab 10.1? Can you connect a USB hub to it (maybe a powered USB hub)?
I take lots of full resolution photos, and would like to use the Tab to transfer data from SD card to portable USB hard drive.
What I want to avoid is having to first copy the SD card contents to the Tablet, then connect the tablet to the portable HD to unload the photos. That seems like unnecessary wear/tear on the flash memory.
If the USB host on the Tab 10.1 can handle a hub, then I can connect both the SD card and portable HD at the same time...hopefully the Tab would make use of it's RAM (the 1GB spec) to transfer chunks of data at a time, without resorting to using the internal Flash memory.
Am I right about that? The Android OS doesn't use the flash memory as a page file for working memory the way desktop computers do with drives?
bump - hoping someone can answer. Thanks.
There is a thread in development about a homemade usb adapter, and it works successfully with a hub. The samsung adapter isn't available yet, but should work the same

pokey9000 figured out how to force the unit in host mode. All you need to do is put 20ohms of resistance (easiest way with two 10Ohm resisters in series) between pins 13 and 15.
He also tested using a powered hub and was able to connect to multiple items at once. A regular hub might work for a few thing that are low powered but if you plan to have two hard drives, it better be powered.
has anyone found a usb to sd card adapter for multiple sd cards?
Did you ever figure this out? I want to do the same thing.

Is it safe to move large size of files through the USB Connector to the SD Card?

Is it safe to move large size of files through the USB Connector to the SD Card?
I'm going to buy the SanDisk 128GB EXTREME PLUS and I'll need to transfer to the card 55GB of music through the USB Connector with some Disk On Key.
Is it safe to do so?
Thanks in advance.
Safe? Yes. Just slow.
A better way might be to buy a micro SD to SD adapter and do the move on a computer.

Usb C hub

I am wondering whether anyone has connected a USB 3.0 hub to the Axon 7.
The reason I ask is that I am going on a trip soon and want to back up my camera SD card each day to a USB stick. I don't want to take a laptop. What I'd like to do is connect a USB card reader / hub to the phone to copy files from the SD card to the USB stick at USB 3 speeds. Devices like the Ravpower wd03 only do usb 2, which will take ages per file.
Will this work? Will I need a USB 3 otg?

Update - USB Hub Works - but.....
OK, so I took the plunge and bought an Aukey USB C to USB 3 adaptor and a USB hub - one of these. I did it that was as I don't have other USB C devices.
The USB hub works fine with USB memory sticks. Each time i insert it registers a new USB OTG drive and I can happily copy to and from it (and more than one
But every time I insert an SD card into the SD reader, the Axon 7 gives me an error "Unsupported USB Drive: This device doesn't support thus USB drive. Touch to set up in a supported format". When I try to format the card, it fails.
Any ideas?
Update 2
I should add that:
1. The same problem occurs even if I use the MicroSD card I use in the phone - so it is not a formatting issue.
2. I also have a Note 5. If I connect the USB hub to that via a USB OTG, the Note 5 can happily read the SD Card.
3. The SD slot USB Hub works fine when when plugged into a PC.
Do I need an additional USB OTG? Will that conflict with the phone?
Update 3!!!
This is getting ridiculous but I want it to work.
So I tried plugging a SD Card reader into the USB hub. Lo and behold it works!!!! I wonder whether the issue is just that the SD card reader in the hub is missing something which allows the Axon to read the SD card.
That was only USB 2 - I am going to invest in a USB 3 SD card reader (my camera produces large files!) So I am going to invest in a small USB card reader and will report back.
Update 4
So the card reader has arrived as has my USB 3 stick. Now I can copy all the files from the SD Card to the USB Stick.
The only issue is that Dropbox scans the cards and starts trying to upload them as Camera uploads so I've had to kill the process.
The other issue is that my file manager (File Manager HD) doesn;t allow copying and I have to use the System file Manager, which is awful. Am going to work on that process over the weekend. Any suggestions gratefully received on that front!!!
Rubbish. Rubbish. Rubbish
The connection just isn't stable enough. The phone keeps saying that the card(s) keeping g being disconnected / removed. There is nothing wrong with the hub or either the USB stick or the sync card / card reader.
Last chance - I will add a power supply to the USB hub. If that doesn't work I'm afraid my views will be confirmed - this is a great phone with a great DAC but other than that it is just a bit rubbish and cheap for a reason, with a manufacturer which doesn't want to develop for it. I'm the EU least.

Calling all Oneplus Veterans! OTG drive with SD card

The OP5 will be my first Oneplus device, and also my first device without an SD card slot. I currently have a 128gb card that I would like to keep using by way of OTG adapter. Does anyone have advice for those of us switching over as to which OTG drive/ adapter to get and the limitations some might have with OP devices?
I specifically would like one that I can keep the SD card inside the OTG drive and then just have it on my keyring.

I think this is what you are looking for:
https://www.symlis.com/features/
Sadly they don't have plans to make a USB C version, but it will work fine with a Micro to C adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/JS-Aluminum-...056648&sr=8-3&keywords=micro+usb+to+c+adapter
I recommend these adapters.
