X 2.3.3 GingerBread Update impressions(Guide to people installing GB)

The new update for X10 is out already! after about 8 hours of using and about 7-8 reboots the phone seems fast now!
Now what does that mean it means we can implement All 2.3.3,2.3.4 or 2.2 roms out there with the Perfect camera!
and the kernal can be used to Tether and roms running 2.3.3 can be made rock stable!!!!

-New music app(with new skin and easy to use UI! much faster than Mediascape)

-2.3.3 Running for 8 hours no Wlod no crash! running smooth and No need of any app killers as GB is optimised in app handling
-Large Scrollable photo and video widget works GREAT
-Camera works Great go you cant get the UI to Potrait mode, but the pictures are much better than 2.1. 720p Recording is smooth and focus during recording is mind blowing really loving it!
-The screen off animation works well, edge glow is clear and is not pixelated(White edge glow)
-keyboard works fine and responsive and the text cursor works well
-Tether work Fine and network is great with new BB!
- the highest possible for me is 187mb free memory with using native app killer but mostly GB can handle this well so you wont slow down!
-there is a new feature added now i dont know if it is a Pro or a Con. when downloading something from the Market a cyan Led blinks and while installing from market cyan led blinks indicating Downloading and installing!
-The vibration seems much more responsive as soon as you get a Msg it vibrates and the vibration intensity has also been increased
-x10 now give cyan Notif light whenever you install something,download something, or you miss your alarm or any other important notifs are
show by this Led good feature but i hate it at night when i am using it!
-NO BOOTloader is not unlocked
-NO Fps cap removal or increase
-NO 16 million colours
-NO Multi touch or improved Dual touch
-Low call volume
-Cam Flash still the old lame Photo light! work around Vig works fine but not as good as the New 2.3.3 Camera
-No improvements in Screen or any display aspect

IF you think doing this one by one is a pain in the neck then download Wolfs X TW
which already has pulled out Sont crap apps
and Fps uncap+BraviaEngine 100%
and its optimised
If you are starting from 2.1 or 2.2 roms i recommend going with Wolf's rom as its both faster and has more features than stock!

1. Can't use as Flash.
2. Run smooth but lag when using app killer
3. Usually ~45% Free and when kill ~65% free. Task will rise up to 40 tasks after killed for 2mins
4. Run smooth, look the Arc and you will see that they are the same.

Camera UI is the same Android 2.1 but better. Applications on SD Card is ready.

I don't know, for me the GB update feels very clunky. It's slow ,laggy, and actually gets worse than 2.1 sometimes. It's super stable though and camera is a huge plus, and I'm loving facebook inside xperia.

45% and 65%? of the total ram that is 386mb ram right? so around 150mb is available? or 45~65mb is atleast available
is X10 still worth getting if i have $330 in my pocket with that Gingerbread Update?

Very pleased with the update. I think SE did a great job! I actually for once like the new timescape widget...however what bugs me is that they didn't link the camera to timescape anymore. So, once root is available, im affraid timescape has to go lol. If they would have linked the camera to it, I for sure would have kept timescape this time.
My only other thing is im patiently waiting for a root method...I know there's pre-rooted firmware, but Im just not in the mood to flash back to 2.1, root it, blah blah blah. So i'll wait.
I just hope Z or someone is actually working on a root method?

I agree. Timescape and the whole Facebook inside Xperia concept is amazing and works well. I just wish there was a way to 'show friendship' like in facebook, where it groups you and that person's FB tagged pics, status tags, wall posts etc. into one app. That would be cool.

Graphic glitches and Camcorder lags.

Just waiting for my HD2 to arrive and trying to look up the best sense rom. Preferably want Gingerbread!
However after looking it seems nearly all roms maybe even the froyo ones suffer from the same two issues. Camcorder lags and graphic glitches. I appreciate that this device was never meant to run android but I would like to find the most solid sense rom I can.
Oh and do all roms suffer from green tint when using flash too?

froyo sense roms has no problem. you can use rafdroid,cmylxgo hd,or frankinstine hd or imilka hd roms.

OK I will use one of them as my stable rom then. However I know I can't resist trying a pyramid rom. Camcorder issue I may be way behind but I wonder if it is to do with media profiles xml? Maybe we can use Froyo camera app and set to use old libs? I guess I'll have a go myself once my HD2 arrives!

in newer versions the glitches have lessened. but camcorder really lagges,just because of that i left sense-3 and went to froyo again.in addition to these power button doesn't work but there are workarounds for this.but you can try them just as i did and you can decide whether you can live with them

I already know I can live without power button that's fine for me. A widget will do. Camcorder I would like to try and fix due to me having a little girl I like to video her when i can!
Is it any better with external apps like LG Camera?

Well, I've read somewhere in a Sense3-Rom's Thread that the camcorder doesn't lag when set to a less quality.
And if I were to use a sense 3 Rom, I'd give up the Cam and Camcorder, and use a "graphics fix" (which kills camera) and a "Power" fix.
So I'd come up with a ROM that only misses the Camera, which is fine to me.

Well, after a while glithes gone (not by themself but due to efforts of developers of course ), but camcorder still lags. I think there are lots of HD2 users dreaming about camcorder without lags as a New Year gift from Santa (again not wihout devs help).

I use Pyramid ROM at the moment and I'm very happy with it. Very smooth and really good battery life.

ok. my personal opinion:
i liked kingdom for the resolution. but its the same.
but none of them is stable. unfortunately
camcorder is a mess. the other day i had 3 sods in 5 minutes during
navigation and lost my way.

no not smooth at all. its eyecandy yes. i love sense for it.
but when it comes to stability its poor.
camcorder doesnt work, sod after taking pics. navigation is a mess.
not for daily use i think...

Well.... I guess it all depends on how you install it and fine tune.
Only problem I have with this ROM is camcorder issue (which is a known issue). This is my everyday phone now and I'm happy with it. No crash or lags. I reboot phone a once or twice a week.

EnergyRoms have often done so I think. From WinMo to Android I've always had a good experience.

there's 3 versions out now,i aint tried the 20\09\2011 version.
17\09\2011 version works fine apart from bluetooth,but usb works
19\09\2011 version works fine apart from usb
IT'S A SHAME ALL ROMS DON'T LOOK LIKE THIS ROM,more colourful and not just plain black or grey lol,i no the colours don't effect the performance,but it still looks superb............but since i last had this rom.............im now on runnymede rom.............its like the new sensation XE..............just wish there was a way to make it like the colours of energy rom..........then it would be world class

Energy ROM you can choose to download from different bases. The 3.0 builds based on desire tend to be a bit smoother.

I love the rom so far, it runs smooth and i really like the style of ie the ics google reader etc. i love that i actually can test it that early, never thought that there will be such a stable version be available anytime soon.

Yeah, would be nice to have. Agree. But, the rom tweaks are something I use all the time and are specific to just this ROM. Camera will come....

This really is an exelent rom, I love the new toggles.

This is a great rom' camera will get fixed in time but even so the best from I've used so far

It is a trade-off presently for having a silky smooth experience but no camera. In any case all things equal my handphone does the work and I just transfer the pictures to the GT....
I cannot think of reverting back to the old HC even for the camera.

Downloaded the lastest ICS Wifi version. Very happy, not going back to touch wiz. If I need to take photos that's what my Nikon 5100 is for. The alpha versions of ICS are working quite well, no problems with bluetooth mouse and keyboard, email exchange or free writing apps.
Suggest trying ICS, you can always go back to that slow HC TW.

For the HTC Desire S the group Virtuous fixed the camera problem. Maybe contact zbwu86 or Virtuous. I think they can help with the camera problem

HTC Zoe - Thoughts?

When I first heard about Zoe, I thought that it would simply take a few photos and a 3 second video whenever you take a picture. I also thought that it couldn't be turned off.
That was really putting me off because it would take way too much memory storing Zoe's all the time.
My mind changed, however, when I saw the following video -
It shows that it can be turned on and off at will and it shows a few more of the video editing that can be done natively rather than needing to download a separate app.
What are your thoughts on Zoe? Is it a good integration? Do you think you'll use it a lot? What do you think could be added to Zoe to make it better?

i didn't know Zoe did all of that which was showed in the video. Might be a neat little feature once you get the hang of it

I can see myself using and enjoying Zoe a lot, it's a really interesting and useful software IMO.

I agree, this time, HTC has included a bunch of useful softwares too

I'm only worried about how much storage space will take having all that.

Got to use the device the other day and I must say the Zoe feature does have a wow factor we took a few Zoe snaps and the displayed on a reel and it did look incredibly impressive. I would think the novelty would wear off eventually but im still going for it

I'm not too keen on the 3 second clip either but perhaps we will be able to disable that bit but still have all the other useful features which Zoe is packed with. I haven't had a chance to test the One yet so I can't be certain about it yet though.
The sequence and removals will definitely be ideal though because the sequence will be perfect when I'm BMXing (just like it shows in the video) and removals are perfect for pictures being taken in a crowded public place.

I won't be able to test one out until possibly tomorrow and will make sure Zoe is the first feature I test out, just to see it in all its glory
You're right that the novelty will wear off at some point but will still be handy regardless.

After watching this definitely made up my mind I'm getting this phone! Zoe would be perfect for when I go to Italy and Greece next summer since I took my vivid last summer to Europe . I just hope there is a decent amount of development for it and gets root easily. Since my hox just got soff

From looking through this thread and the stock recovery thread (in development section), dev support really won't be a problem and will likely get root and custom ROMs available fairly quickly.

Anyone really tested this out yet? I know the One is already available in some countries, so hopefully some testers are around

I have a One, and have been taking a few Zoes.
One thing you need to know is that they will eat up space fast. Each Zoe stores 20 full 4MP frames, plus an mp4 video with audio, for a total of about 36MB for each Zoe.
The highlight video is neat but a little buggy. The filter for selecting which photos of an event are to be included doesn't work, so if you only want a subset you have to copy the subset to another event (gee, even more space eaten) as a workaround until HTC fixes it. Besides that, it works well. The songs you can pick are tied to the set of transition effects and filters used, which are matched to the beat of the music. The photos it picks and what order they go in is unfortunately random. No ability for custom songs and transitions yet.
I haven't experimented with the retouches yet, but the potential is pretty impressive for things like Always Smile. I can foresee myself taking Zoes indstead of stills and then only keeping the best frame for a lot of photography applications.
You cannot digital zoom when taking Zoes. It would look really bad anyway though, 4MP is not enough for quality digital zoom - Stills are terrible zoomed.

Thanks for pointing out that highlight selection bug. Thought I was doing something wrong there . Works good as alternative splitting events and selecting the stuff I want to use in a new highlight. Hope htc fixes this in a future update.
