Hi Guys,
I know that the Galaxy S3 has APT-X enabled with Wolfson DAC. Can we discuss on some good headsets that will sound great with GS3??
What about external DAC like E17 USB DAC?? Will that make much difference in sound quality?

Thanks for your reply. Have you tried using sennheiser earphones? Many of them in XDA saying its wonderful.
Please share your thoughts and experience so that we can keep this thread live.

thanks Venkatesh. Can you tell me where can i get this kernal?
Can anyone tell me whether my apt-X compatible Bluetooth headset will be able to make use of the apt-X functionality of the phone if I'm on an AOSP rom instead of a touchwiz-rom? Or is it kernel-specific?
Edit: Never mind, I tested it myself here

So from November 2012 when I got my phone I have tried any thing came to my mind to solve this problem but nothing worked for me!!!
I'm very sensitive about music quality and I really can't stand this anymore!!! My volume is very low even when I crank it to the max!!! I mostly use my Dr Dre Studio headphones and sometimes my Beats Tours... I've tried several other headphones and didn't get any result
When I connect my Studio headphones to my laptop and I listen to the same track that I have on my phone it's super load like if I turn up the volume to the max I really go deaf!!! So I'm pretty sure it's not from my headphones... I know that the phone's amplifier is not as powerful as my laptop but still ... I think it is not normal, I also notice some other people have the same problem as me!!!
So these are the things I have tried already:
1. Using other mp3 player apps such as PlayerPro, PowerAMP, Winamp and .... none of them made any difference and the equalizer simply just mess up the quality of the track...
2. I have used all the mods like Beats Xlouder and such and they also just lowered the quality
3. All of my tracks are MP3 320kbps/flac audio format... still I tried to increase the audio using Audacity by amplifying the dB... It helped but not really noticeable.
Currently I don't have root access but if something can really help I'd be willing to root my device... like kernel or something! Please help

Well...
A ) There's something wrong with your ear.

B ) You have a defective unit. My headphones are waaaayyyy too loud even at half volume. If it's really that bad, ask for an exchange unit. If you're adventurous, root and custom rom it. Might see a change.

Google Nexus 4 Volume low you can probably see people having the same problem I you think I'm lying
If you think you can help please give me a solution to my problem...
Imma be as descriptive as possible with my fix.
ROOT YOUR PHONE!
1. Install Trinity kernel. (Its the only kernel I've gotten this to work with)
2. Flash Misledz audio mod, keep up with the latest ones as in my opinion she really knows what she's doing and the quality gets better and better.
3. Once the mod is installed Titanium Backup / Rom Toolbox remove the 4 system apps installed by Misledz audio mod.
-Awesome beats, -Noozy Player, -Noozxoide, -Dolby Digital App.
4. Reboot wipe cache / dalvik in recovery, reboot.
5. Go to the market and download the latest Noozxoide, set up to your musical preference.
Now you can omit some parts such as keeping 3 of the apps, but I find awesome beats not to work at all, the libs in the mod does though. That's why I remove the apps. I listen to a lot of bass heavy music (rap / old school hip-hop). This method is a night and day difference in loudness and audio quality.
I genuinely hope this helps everyone.:good:
dude Awesome beats is the worst ... plus I'm not rooted any more
but I heard there is a kernel that increases the volume
Not awesome beats. Misleadz audio mod. Trinity kernel makes your audio louder naturally. With the audio mod trust me you'd give me an e-hug in gratitude (no homo). I had the same problem. This method I posted works.
I give it try thanks a lot

Haha told ya!
What type of earphones or headphones do you use anyway? I'm using the V-Moda LP2's and they sound fantastic. They do need an amp to get the total feel but with Poweramp's equalizer, I have been pretty impressed.
I have loaded several different TW roms on my gs4, and only Tasks AOKP for aosp roms. I have noticed the sound quality in AOSP is horrible compared to TW. I first noticed it when I plugged it into my car radio, it sounded muffled and muddy. I tried playing with the settings, even bought faux sound in hopes it would help but it did not. I plugged my friends iPhone in and played the same song to see if it was my radio... It was not. So I loaded a backup of a TW rom I had and low and behold it sounded just as good as the iPhone, just slightly quieter, turning the volume up a little and I couldnt tell the difference. I loaded the backups of TW and AOKP roms back to back with my headphones with different songs to see if I was just dreaming, but there is a huge difference in highs and lows, base sounds underpowered and starts crackling in AOSP. Faux sound didnt help anything, tried playing with the equalizer, and it never sounded anything close to the TW rom. I was going to try and load CM 10.1, but have not done so since they are still on nightly's with no RC or final builds.
Now I know AOSP uses open source drivers, so is this the problem? Or am I missing something that could be causing this?
EDIT: AOSP DOES NOT HAVE APT-X.
---------------------------------
Use APT-X on AOSP instead.
Otherwise, I can't comment on bluetooth since I only use the APT-X codec. But Task has stated in the past he does not care about bluetooth audio.

Setting the volume all the way up on your phone while its connect to aux may cause distortion. Set it at least 3/4th of the volume bar and control the rest via the headunit.

No problem with distortion on TW rom with volume all the way up. Also it doesnt really explain the headphone issues.

Oh sorry, I thought I read that you were using Bluetooth.
APT-X is the high-definition version of Bluetooth. Comparable to using the headphone jack for audio quality, but with less noise.
If you want the ultimate in audio quality at the expense of some convenience, then try to find a USB DAC that works with the S4. I'm not sure if there are any yet. But they're worth it if you think you might be an audiophile.

How do you use the APT-X codec? Is it part of one of the custom ROMs? I was under the impression that only the international version supported APT-X.
This has been my experience with samsung devices in the past as well. They do a good job with sound quality in the stock software. If you go to a AOSP type ROM, you need some other sound application to improve quality.
EDIT: AOSP ROM'S DO NOT HAVE APT-X.

All Samsung Galaxy S3/S4 TouchWiz and Google Edition ROM's have had APT-X since the Galaxy S3.
All you need to do is find a Car Stereo or a Receiver that support APT-X and then connect by Bluetooth and it automatically uses the APT-X hi-def codec.
Since I never found a Car Stereo that supports it (still new tech) I just connected an APT-X bluetooth receiver to my car stereo. So my phone connects to the receiver. Then the receiver sends the audio directly to my car stereo via 3.5mm audio cable. I hide the receiver inside my dashboard behind the car stereo.
For anyone wondering the sound quality for Bluetooth is 1000 times better on 4.3.
I tested this on 3 different stereo headsets with beats enabled and disabled. It is extremely noticeable how much HTC/Google improved Bluetooth quality on the latest update.
This makes me so glad as Bluetooth quality with 4.2.2 was extremely lacking.

Is it better than the bluetooth A2DP support in the sense version of 4.2? because I use that dialy in my car and have been waiting for them to improve the quality or mods to this effect since I got the phone. I would install 4.3 and give up zoe's just for this.
OK just got done doing a side by side comparison with a stock sense HTC one, and quality is about the same.
I did notice that enabling beats on a stock HTC one has more bass than my GE but not much.
On a clarity and volume level they are nearly identical.

I just noticed something a bit ago. I was cleaning out my garage and listening to some music using my Motorola S9 HD stereo headset, and took some garbage out to the road and the music was not cutting out. I think I'll go ahead and test it myself and report my findings. I can connect the HTC car adapter to a pair of headphones, which should give me a good comparison environment. My new car also has built-in Bluetooth with support for A2DP, but since I've had the HTC car adapter for longer, I figured I'd be better off using the HTC adapter instead.
For what it's worth, Sense 5 using either 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 has the same sound quality since aptX is present on both, but I think CSR's "CD quality" claim about aptX might be bogus. I spend most of my time streaming Google Music at 320kbps (a.k.a. high quality) in the car, so if the Google ROM can stream ~320kbps over A2DP without the need for the proprietary aptX, I should be fine.
The Bluetooth on 4.3 is still using SBC instead of aptX, and there is a noticeable drop in audio quality when doing to 4.3.
However, it isn't really a deal-breaker for me. I'll probably end up just running an aux cable to my phone instead.

Just install Power Amp or similar and play with the equaliser. You'll find it eventually but, in looking, I'm sure you'll find settings that sound far better (unless you're tone deaf of course).
Can anyone assist? Any luck with installing bass beats on LG G2 from package or running system, instead of having it installed with system ?

If you aren't rooted then the only option you have is to install another app like Poweramp or another music player with built in good equalizer

this.
in the audio world, Bose stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment. They make high quality, proprietary audio equipment that's not compatible with other systems, and that is extremely overpriced. Their headphones and speakers are quality products, but you pay way too much for them.
Monster Cable makes overpriced audio cables. They are quality cables, but often needlessly so. there's absolutely no reason to buy a $100 hdmi cable. ever.
Beats by Dre is a combination of the two. Their headphones and speakers are of medium quality, tuned for deafening bass and terrible mids and highs, and sold at Bose prices. Their HTC Boom Sound software crap adjusts your phone's sound profile to match their ****ty headphones.
I would consider going deaf before using any Beats products.

I don't have that option. When I install V4A and Beats the standard music player on LG G2 with 4.4.2 activates it and it works.
Power Amp on LG G2 does not. I guess this is how I should start this thread but I just realised now. When I was using power amp on HTC with beats I had a button for Beats and SRS. No such thing in kit Kat for LG...
Is there a file or option in Android that I could modify and add power amp as a player ? The system must know when to activate sound processing when a music or movie player starts, but power amp does not activate it/is not on that list I guess...
Viper4android is actually a universal sound mod
So if it is activated any sound coming out of the phone will be altered by it , be it music or youtube video or anything else for that matter..
But since poweramp has its own equalizer you'll have to disable that and select viper4a in MusicFX in Tone/vol section
Btw which rom are you on? Because it worked for me on stock and cloudyflex but not on mahdi (viper4a doesnt affect poweramp)
