I've tried searching about for this and haven't found an answer yet.
When using the original samsung roms the TTS voice from google nav always caused any music to pause or cut out.
Later I've had rom's/kernels where I've had my the TTS voice from google nav mixing with the music playing from another player ( ICSSGS, various kernels)
I'm using Team NYX ICS rc5 at the moment with Devil3 0.79, and just used google nav for the first time in a long time and the TTS is cutting off music again.
Is it actually a kernel thing and/or is there some setting to work with this?
Does anyone know the actual terms I should be looking for more information on this, or what to look for as a kernel feature if it's a kernel issue?
I've looked through voodoo control and can't see anything that seems to effect it.
whoops, heh, found options for it burried away in powerAMP now, I've never changed them so I don't know why it's gone from not working, to working and back again, no one else touches my phone
close / delete thread if you wish.

I've been running the Fresh Evo 4.0 Beta for a few weeks. I like it. But I've found the Google Voice Search does not work. The application opens but does not pick up any audio. It's not possible to uninstall and reinstall since it's part of the actual rom.
Any ideas how to resolve/fix? Anyone else encountered the same issue?

Google Voice Search is in the market, you should be able to uninstall and reinstall it from the there.
Also, I learned a couple months ago that removing the stock browser breaks voice search, fyi

Never an issue here.
The Sprint Gingerbread Beta & ROMs based off of it, have the voice features borked.
Google Voice search won't launch android music player. If I use the right command "listen to", it offers music player as a choice but then doesn't pass the query to the player-- I select android music player and it starts playing a random song.
Also, when using a bluetooth earpiece, pushing the call button brings up Google Voice Dialer (and not google search). It doesn't respond to anything I say at that point. How do I get the native Google Voice assistant to come up instead?
I'm running MDOB 1.8.
I just moved from Iphone so it would be great to get these quite basic features to work on my S4...

Why don't you use S-Voice--just asking--it does all I need extremely well
I'm trying to get rid of the bloatware. The S4 is unacceptably slow until you strip the junk out. And I thought Google Voice Assist was much better than Siri-- but it seems to be broken on many phones right now.

Interesting, mine is extremely smooth and fast even before I rooted. I still have not removed any apps. It was a long process to decide to root and flash twrp as things were going very well.
Did you set animations to .5 and check disable hw overlays in development section of settings/more?
As far as S-Voice it is far better than any other voice to text I ever used. Esp when speaking addresses in Maps--
Hope you get it sorted
I moved from Iphone this spring. I am using MDOB now. Samsung Svoice never seems to get my voice commands right; can't find the right contact and totally gets my music voice commands wrong. For example, always thinks I'm asking for "back" when I say "beck"-- the only thing in my library.
Siri was an order of magnitude better at all this. Google is better at general voice recognition, but doesn't work with AT&T/Samsung. I tried and get a google dialer popup and it won't control the Samsung music app.
Should I go to Google Edition? Will Google correctly work over bluetooth headset for music and calls? Is it more accurate than Svoice?
Help!

When you refer to "Google is better at general voice recognition, but doesn't work with AT&T/Samsung.", what specifically are you referring to? I use Google Now and it's voice recognition and it works perfectly fine for me? Google Now is integrated in the new Google app. You can also access it from holding the menu haptic button.
Google Now does not control anything. Does not control music, texting, etc. on a Samsung/ATT device.
So my question, and I guess this is the wrong place to ask it since nobody seems to know here, is will AOSP or plain vanilla google ROMs do as good a job as Siri at controlling music via bluetooth headphones, texting, etc. etc.?
I initially noticed this on my Galaxy s6 a few weeks ago after an update. Google Voice typing stopped pausing the music player if I used the voice option to dictate a text message. It used to stop the music and continue after I was finished. Now it'll play the music in the background and it's making it hard to dictate because it will also pick up on the lyrics from the song. At first I thought my S6 was just going crazy and a factory reset would probably fix it but I just got the S8 and I am facing the same issue. Any advice?
Thanks!
Hmm... mine pauses anytime it's listening to a voice command. Never tried to text with it though.
I bet that makes for some really interesting conversations.
It does stop the music if I use the "Ok Google " command to use the assistant but it doesn't do it if I'm using it to dictate a text message.
Just did a test.....it works fine in version 6.12.25.21 which is the one that comes pre-installed on the s8. however when you update to the latest version in the play store you get the problem. i've downgraded back to the older version for now. anyone else experiencing this issue?

I'm having the same problem. This is when you activate voice within the google keyboard right? What app did you downgrade?
Well, I use the Samsung keyboard but yes, it's when you activate the voice option on the keyboard. I did try it with the Google keyboard but was getting the same problem too. The app that I downgraded was "Google". Just go into the playstore, type Google, "uninstall" the app and it should bring you back down to the version that came pre-installed with the phone. And then uncheck auto-update in the right top corner of the app screen in the playstore. That should fix it for now. Let me know if it works!

I was able to uninstall updates for the google app and yea, I was able to fix the problem. Partially. It pauses the music now when voice is activated. But when I send the message, music will not resume. Does this happen to you?
Same problem with LG G5
I have had the same issue for the past couple of weeks. When using the Google Voice typing, all media apps are no longer paused (Spotify, RocketPlayer, Podcast Addict, etc) thus Google Voice is transcribing the words coming from these media apps. I uninstalled Google App today, but then Google Voice to Text worked very poorly. Does anyone have any thoughts on solutions or workarounds? Thanks.
try installing a previous version of the google app. The galaxy s8 comes with this build standard and it works fine.
Did you guys ever find a fix for this? its driving me nuts. Im on OnePlus 3 but yeah its a new issue for me started after nougat... It seems like lots of people have the issue but are just living with it. While driving it really sucks. Used to be so easy to voice reply and pod-kicker would resume play back. Now I gotta pause first then reply voice text then hit play again ...its MADDENING. Looking for a fix. The downgrade worked for me for a short while then it just started up again. I didn't auto update google app. Tried clearing every data cache...uninstall reinstall...even different keyboards!!! same issue. Thanks guys!!!! hope we can figure it out.
The downgrade still works for me.
I have the same problem in my Oneplus 3T, I can not send voice messages while driving.
Same issue on my LG G6, BUT, for me it only does it when I'm connected to Bluetooth in my car - which is of course when you need voice recognition most. I have to manually pause the music to use it. Driving me nuts. I'm surprised they haven't released an update to fix it. I guess not a lot of people on these latest devices using voice recognition.
The downgrade still works for me but it appears it also has been fixed for me with the newest Google app update 7.3.26.21. I tried it with spotify and google music with and without bluetooth connection and it works. Stops the music then automatically resumes. Let me know if it works for you guys too.
I can't find a post of others experiencing this: It seems that after my (stock, not rooted) 5 got the OTA Oreo upgrade (and the second OTA didn't fix it) the Maps nav voice is skipping words (or parts of words) in her directions. Like 'take the next... and 'right' will be missing, or "in 1/4 ... then mile and other words might be missing.
Since Maps is baked in, I've only been able to "delete upgrades" to Maps and then reinstall (after deleting its cache and data).
Has anyone heard of this. If not, and just my bad luck, are there directions for Completely deleting all Maps files so I can do a clean install?
Thank you!!

Go into the accessibility menu in ROM settings and make sure the TTS (text to speech) enabled is from Google. If you don't have Google TTS on your phone you can download it from the Play Store and then make it the default TTS in accesibility settings.
Hi @djroese33! This is not the correct sub-forum for the issue you're facing. Please make sure that you're posting in the right sub-forum (in your case, it should be the Questions & Answers sub-forum) which increases the chances of you getting the right information.

This has always happened to me when I'm in my vehicle with Bluetooth active, but not selected as the audio source. For example, Bluetooth is active and connected to the head unit for phone calls, but I'm listening to a game on the radio, any map directions from the phone are as you describe. However, if I'm streaming music from the phone and it's the designated audio source, directions are complete. FWIW, this behavior predates my OP5. It also occurred with my N6P.

Thanks. I was already setup with it as a source. Worked perfectly until the Oreo update. Anyway, it was definitely Bluetooth related.. I completely wiped/reset the phone, and still had issue. Then I tried it without Bluetooth, and everything was fine (hadn't thought of that before reloading). Tried all sorts of settings, reconnecting to the car, etc. Finally thought of switching the voice to 'Female 1'. NO idea why, but all is fine.
