Which forumla/guide worked best for you with less complications?
Can you pinpoint why fellow xda'ers are experiencing problems? And why is it not as straightforward as it suggests?
What did you do different? Is the sd card the main cause?

In my opinion one shot is better and faster.Quickest way to get to official"Mango"
This is what I did, first
Please if you've not flashed wp7 rom before you'll need to read a guide on how to do that before. Thanks
What you need:
Yuki native v2 (7004)
7004-7720 (one shot)
wp7 update cab sender.zip(wp7 cabsenderwinxpfix.zip -if you're using win xp-read further on this in the thread)
Device provisioning.cab
You must have zune
All in first post of Yuki-Xbmod "Back to Future"
Steps:
1.Install Yuki native v2 (7004)
2.Follow on screen instructions and set time zone, date and time.
NB:make sure it corresponds to that on the PC
3.leave the phone on don't power off, connect USB from PC to phone-
**Time to install 7720**
4.At PC, enter wp7 update cab sender folder
5.Go to "if needed install this tool" folder
6.Install setup - update wp(x64 for 64bits windows or x86 for 32bits windows)
NB:You can verify this at the Device manager on the PC
7.Copy device provisioning.cab to wp7-update-cab sender folder. Important,please don't extract this(device provisioning cab)
8.Run wp7 update cab sender.bat
9.Then on the PC keyboard, type s-(s)end cabs to device
10.After finished installing close wp7 update cab sender
11.Delete device provisioning.cab (ie. the one you copied into wp7 update cab sender)
12.Open wp7 7004-7720-patch.zip
13.Copy all the cab files to wp7 update cab sender folder
14.Run wp7 update cab.sender.bat again
15.As usual type s-(s)end cabs to device
NB:I believe it depends on you SD Card it should take about 1hr to 2hrs. In my case 1hr.
16.After installation reset your phone (ie. Go to about) it's important.
17. YOU ARE DONE. YOU NOW HAVE RTM 7720 YUKI-XBMOD
You can now proceed to do the official thing if you like on Zune.
You can checkout jayceooi at his blog or watch his video tut on YouTube if still not convinced.
I hope it helps.
I flashed the BTTF ROM V2.0 when it came out. And updated to 7392 via Zune. I didn't bother with all that other stuff. Frankly it was too much work and risk for me. I had a difficult time even getting BTTF to flash and enough was enough. I decided to wait for the official release of Mango and hoped the HD2 would get an official update.
Having said all that, when Mango was released I never got the update message. So I tried the 'disconnect' trick. It didn't work. I found no posts here on XDA saying if any other HD2 owners were able to get it via the 'disconnect' trick so I didn't put much effort into it.
I read somewhere in that uber long BTTF thread about installing the Mango beta via Zune to get Mango up and running, and I did that. Right now I am running version 7.10.7720.68 and loving it. Not sure if that's the official release or not, but its working for me.
Basically, I installed BTTF V2.0 as directed but stopped there. Then, once updated via Zune I waited for Mango to be released. When that didn't work I found the following -
http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/get_the_mango_update_now._without_being_a_developer.-06-30-11
Make sure you have Zune 4.7 NOT 4.8 installed or it won't work. Also, sometime during the update process you will be prompted to update to the latest Zune software - DO NOT DO THIS. Wait until your phone is completely updated via Zune, then it's okay to update to 4.8. The entire process took about 2 hours for me. You will need to be patient.
Lastly, when you connect to 4.8 for the first time after above method you will be prompted for another update. Do that, it just cleans a few beta files up or something. When I did it the software stopped responding and the phone froze, but I let the software run its course and it eventually said connection to phone lost. When I disconnected and pulled the battery it started up just fine and I got a successful update message.
Good luck
Hi Everyone,
I just received a brand new ATT Focus from US ( with the SIM unlocking code also ).
The phone is rev 1.3 and running 7392 atm.
Searched and searched on XDA, Google also...couldn't find a definitive answer at all...
What is the easiest/fastest way to get to dev unlocked Mango ?
So far, from what I've read is to revert to 7004-chevron unlock-update NoDo- keep the unlock-update mango ( of course some registry tweaks during the way).
Thanks,

Try on another computer. That solved it for many.
Job done
haha, I wasn't seeing the trees because of the forest.
For anyone that might get interested in this, here are the steps that worked great for me ( didn't put any SIM, nor had the time adjusted):
All info I had maily came from this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143999
1. Install/flash 7004. Unlock via chevron. Use any registry editor to erase the values from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > DeviceReg/PortalUrlInt, remove its value data and save it. Do the same with PortalUrlProd
2.Zune upgrade to 7008.
3.Zune upgrade to NODO.
STOP THE UPDATING WHEN DONE otherwise ZUNE will automatically proceed to the last two updates that leads to Mango.
4. Deploy http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=722646&d=1316284246
5. Deploy http://www.edisk.cz/en/download/38910/New_SMS_unlock.xap_41.01KB.html
6. Make root /provxml. Copy unlock.xml to it.
7. Let Zune do the rest.
In my case, everything worked flawless and updated to the last samsung update: fm 2103.11.8.1; radio: 2103.11.8.1 BL: 5.8.0.2
you forgot to mention that after updating to mango 7720, you need to run the diagnostics app to load the "unlocked" profile. Heres a link to the thread, but this thread i find is unclear;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16809179
What i did was the following AFTER the update to MANGO!
1. Enter the diagnostics terminal by entering "##634#" as a phone number
2. Typed "*#9908#" in the diag. mode, which brought me to the GPRS settings
3. Scrolled through the list of profiles, selected "unlock", clicked "save"
4. now your focus is ready for sideloaded apps!

Consider me new; can you connect steps 4 and 5 with step 6? 4/5 are each XAP files, what purpose does each serve?
Also (and maybe related), unlock.xml seems to be within one of the linked XAPs if you change it's extension to ZIP. How do I copy it to /provxml? This isn't self evident to me, but maybe it is once in Root Tools? I haven't been in Root Tools yet, but is there somewhere to do step 6 within this and if so, can you summarize where?
Sorry for the many questions, there's a lot of info that's hard to digest on the matter - this is pretty close to being the best (most understandable) step-by-step once the questions I posed are answered. Thanks.

When you get to NoDo-cancel search for updates as it will surely get you to Mango without unlock.
Install ''WP7 Root Tools" from the link-yes it is a xap.
Install " New SMS" xap from the link.
Open WP& root tools on phone. Make a provxml folder in root. Navigate to Applications/Install/D19A80F2-..../Install and copy unlock.xml.
Paste unlock.xml inside the previously created PROVXML folder.
Exit.
Go to home screen open Phone.
Go to dialer- dial ##634#. A new program should open.
Type *#9908# and a new dialog comes out.
Choose unlock from the list. Press save. Exit.
Done. Fertig. Listo. Finito.
Hope it's clearer this time. Good luck.
This steps should be posted in a new thread and stickied.. IMO, its really hard to find good collected guide about the focus...
3G not working after Unlock
Hey guys, have you noticed that 3G data doesnt work anymore after loading the unlock.xml profile under Mango? I tried reloading the other presets that were available in the GPRS diag. shell, but my 3G is still knocked out. Any thoughts? I am with Rogers in Canada

Look around in the WP7 hacking forum for mango update threads - I remember reading something specific to this very issue - "how to fix 3G after provxml unlock" or similar...

Just to confirm, you went through 7392, 7403, and 7720 all BEFORE selecting the unlock profile, right? LOL, I rolled back to Nodo to do this a few days ago, and Zune isn't giving me the option to update anymore, so when (if?) it finally does, I want to make sure I don't screw up and have to roll back again.
Not sure why it continues to tell me no updates are available when I have already gone through the update (using the official process) before, so I know it has been released to me. Perhaps it was only "available" to me briefly before they moved on to a different set of users?
do i have to use the unlock using dialpad BEFORE or AFTER mango update... im in 7392 (i think thats NoDo???) right now, and im confused
I have put together a small guide for flashing. All credits go to the original posters, I just glued together pieces of info I found across XDA forums.

Try to push the update by disabling internet to pc while zune searches for updates. There are some useful posts about how to force NoDo/Mango updating, search XDA.

I tried forcing a million times with every possible timing and situation covered - no go. It either says "no update available", or "cannot check while your internet connection is down".
The irony is I was already pushed Mango officially (without having to force it), but I didn't use the steps to prevent relocking. So I restored back to my unlocked NoDo to do the above steps, and ... well, now I'm stuck.
What gives?!?

Dude... This worked for me.
I do have a small doubt. If I reset the phone after all this will it affect the unlock? I would like to reset the phone and login with my new id.
Please let me know dear...
Once again Thank you so much for the guidance...
After reset, the phone is deleted, thus your settings, certificates, files, pictures etc (everything on it) are gone.
So you will lose the developer unlock, but the OS after reset will be 7720 (latest you upgraded to). If you want to have unlock after a hard reset, you have to start again from 7004 (re-flash).
I recently bought a Samsung Focus on Ebay. I updated it to Mango via Zune. Can I still unlock using Chevron? Or would I have to downgrade and how?
Sorry, first time using WP7.

You need to start over from 7004 to be unlocked in Mango. You can only unlock in 7004/7008 unless you pay for developer unlock.
Question??
After choosing unlock from the list, pressed save, it says loading GPRS Profile for unlockprovision, should i leave it until something else happens or just hit close??

Hi everyone,
I'm going to buy a Samsung Focus from US, it's unlocked.
My question is if can upgrade this smartphone because it hasn't WP 7.5 Mango and I don't know if after that it will still working on my city (Lima-Peru).
And by the way, I need to know if this upgrade is an official upgrade from Windows. Thanks!

Yes, you can upgrade it, and yes, it should be working in Lima.
All updates for the phone come from Microsoft, through the local mobile carriers.
You will have to download zune and it should update on its own. If not you can trick it into thinking your using a different carrier . I had at&t and they didn't release a few different updates so I changed it to bell Canada and got all of them.

You can't install old extras + info directly but you can probably do a hard reset . if it didn't work you have to re-flash your phone to an older version of WP . It contains old extras + info app .

I have suggestion about that.
1) Delete new e+i by "100 year trick"
2) Copy old e+i store XAP to SD
3) Install it (MS said it will be possible to install old versions from SD)
Now you have old extras+info!
wolf that not possible... i tried... say is old and not install
There are more alt methods... why not try them?

You know, extras+info patch method isn't the only method to interop unlock WP 8.1. Some made methods to perform interop unlocking by patching MixRadio or HERE Maps or PFD (Preview For Developers). Just search them here in XDA Developers Forums! Anyone can help out! ?
I always wanted WP8 GDR2 on my 1020, because I have this version on my 640 and 1520, and it gives the best Windows Phone experience. Everything is smooth, the settings menu is tidy. I just like it a lot! It used to be easy to do with the Insider program. However, most of the methods that worked before no longer work. So I wrote this guide that works NOW. I have tested it, except the W10M part as I don't have a spare 1020 to do that
This guide is for the 1020. For other x2x, there is a WP8 tutorial on http://forums.windowscentral.com/up...hone-8-1-gdr2-without-sd-card-x2x-series.html and if you prefer W10M, some custom ROM with GDR2 that will let you update to W10M on https://forum.xda-developers.com/wi...ia-520-625-820-windows-10-upgradable-t3421005
Follow the steps "a" for WP8, and the steps "b" for W10M
1ab. On your windows7 computer, setup WPInternals, and flash the FFU matching your model. You need to download various files. There is a great tutorial with step-by-step details on https://forum.xda-developers.com/lumia-1020/help/lumia-1020-updating-to-windows-10-t3531645
Read the guide, but stop after flashing the FFU.
2a. If you want to have W10M, jump to step 2b. If you want to have WP8, let the phone update normally instead.
Quick explanation: after installing the FFU, you will be on version 1424.0000. You can unlock the bootloader if you want, but because you need to let the phone update, do NOT root the device. Rooting will make the update fail with error 8007000d.
So just go to settings, check if updates are available, install, let it run it course. You will now be on version 14234.375, which is the last one the Lumia 1020 could get officially
3a. Now you must unlock the bootloader, then root the device. Follow the steps in the guide to do that.
For the next two steps 4a and 5a, you can either use CustomPFD on your phone, or regedit with the "load hive" feature after mounting the phone as mass-storage on your PC. This is a bit too complicated for most people who are not into regedit, so I explain how to do that with CustomPFD instead. If you prefer to do with regedit, just follow the tutorial but use the values below as you do not want to impersonate the Lumia 950
4a. Use Windows Phone Application Deployment to deploy CustomPFD_0600. It will fail if you did not unlock the bootloader and root the device.
5a. Now with CustomPFD, go to HKLM\SYSTEM\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo and edit those keys
"PhoneManufacturer"="HIGHSCREEN" (originally NOKIA)
"PhoneManufacturerModelName""="WinWin" (originally RM-877_nam_att_205 for AT&T, or RM-877_nam_usa_957 for unbranded or RM-877_nam_canada_235 for Telus)
"PhoneMobileOperatorName"="000-88" (originally LUS-CA or ATT-US)
We impersonate this model because it will only get WP8 GDR2, and nothing else. That's what we want.
Also, it is a good idea to add the following entries to blacklist extra+info and advanced info as indicated in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64213053&postcount=304 to avoid the updates that block some rooting:
In HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PackageManager\Blacklist, create DWORD32 entries containing "1" for extra&info, extra+info:
{2377fe1b-c10f-47da-92f3-fc517345a3c0}
{4c2aae0a-5e94-4d47-99e3-2608e34c536a}
and for advanced info:
{B6E3E590-9FA5-40C0-86AC-EF475DE98E88}
6a. Now disable root access. This is important, as the update will fail if you did not lock back the phone.
7a. Go to settings, check for updates again, and let the update run. When it is over, you will have 1537.148 also known as GDR2. Congratulations! You are unlikely to get any more update ever, but this is the best Windows Phone version ever made in my opinion.
If you want to restore the original regedit settings so that your 1020 is still recognized as a 1020, you need to use WPInternals to start in storage mode, then use regedit load hive. It is not possible to root the 1020 with WPInternals to use CustomPFD because the GDR2 version is not supported by WPInternals 1.2. Doing the regedit with loadhive is a bit complicated, so I assume you will not want do that. If you are a perfectionist, check the tutorial and restore the original PhoneManufacturer, PhoneManufacturerModelName and PhoneMobileOperatorName
2b. If you want W10M, keep going from here!
3b. Instead of following the guide, we will use the custom made ROM from http://www.windowsmania.pl/romy-315/ - obviously you must download it. The password is the website name
4b. Unlock the bootloader from WPInternal, then install this custom ROM. Tutorial on https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10-mobile/th2-restone-windows-10-custom-roms-t3440144
5c. Glance will not work immediately. To fix it, follow the tutorial on https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10-mobile/tutorial-restore-glance-windows-10-t3540571/page4
I love my 1020. It is a great phone giving me beautiful photos. If you read that far, you obviously also love your 1020 Whether you prefer to run it on WP8 or on W10M, you too should have the lastest software for your 1020.
If you find the guide helpful, and if you have a 1020 or 1520 in your drawer, I'd like to have it. I promise to give it a good loving home Even if it's dead, I would still like it, as I need parts because I plan to keep using my Windows Phones for a long long time!
All done up to 7a, success. Nokia 1020 on Wp8.1 version 1537.148. Lumia Camera with RAW working as desired. It does not work on the very latest builds of WP10 Insider Fast
