[Q] installing Froyo camera on Gingerbread? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I loved camera quality of my glacier before i updated it to GB.After updating to GB camera quality has dropped.Photos are not sharp & not clear!I tried by flashing different cameras from all in one camera thread, but none are good as froyo camera. So i downloaded froyo ROM ROYAL GLACIER (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984571) and move that HTCCamera.apk to system/app & set right permission. But whenevr i open camera it just force closed. Can anyone help me to install this correctly?Or suggest me a good GB Rom which has old great camera apk.
Current ROM-Rooted Official GB
TIA

Did you get the camera libs, too? Try copying the camera libs over and setting the permissions. Make sure you do a backup first.

I could be wrong but it should rw, r, r. Match it to the rest of the libs. If it still bootloops then I don't know what to tell you other than to switch back to froyo.

[Q] 5mp Camera cab?

I've been reading about new builds that have fixed the 3mp camera issue to 5mp. i'm on a desire build that has pretty much no problems and really do not want to flash a new rom. is there a camera.apk file or something that i can modify in the android directory to fix the camera issue? if so, can anyone lead me to them? I've done a lot of searching and can't find much. phone is 99% perfect except for this one thing that bugs me lol. thanks in advance.
or is it possible to download a newer android rom, copy the camera files and just replace them on my existing build? if so, which files would they be?
Download "Camera 360" from the market. Seems to have set everything straight for me.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
You can also use Vignette.
i've tried both apps and they still won't go higher than 3mp. i guess the only way must be to install a new rom hu?

What if you don't have an android apps? where would it go?
Also isn't the HTC HD2 hardware capable of 7mp?

im looking for the android apps folder as well
i just noticed my darkstone froyo 3.1 is 3MEGAPIXEL

I'm assuming you can just move the file to anywhere on the sd card and then just look it up and install using a file explorer. (I use ES file explorer)
Thanks guys. Now I just need to know how to install the kernel and stuff, lol...

[Q] Camera with Liberty

Ever since I downloaded the Liberty ROM i haven't been able to get my camera working. At first it worked but I didn't like the camera that came with the Liberty ROM. So I tried to install the Blur camera out of the Liberty toolbox but that didn't work, instead my camera stopped working all together and now I have nothing. Does anyone know what to do?
Did you do a backup before installing the new camera? If I was in the position that I did not backup hi would reinstall the Liberty right over top of itself. I just did exactly that because after testing out the themes my phone kinda went funky. I just reinstalled Liberty and it wiped out the themes. Thus, fixing my issue. Btw, JRummy and KeJar, props. Excellent build my friends.

Are u on the 2.3.15 update or 2.3.34 update? If on 3.15 it will not work due to incompatible library files. If you want to stay on the 3.15 update, let me know. I think I have the library files you need.

A bit unrelated, but I would be eternally grateful if someone could tell me how to get the T9 Search on the default dialer that's on the phones now.

Either use the stock 2.3.340 rom or use drod 2169 rubix blurry 1.8
Blurless roms dont use it, it is a blur component.
Ps please post questions in the appropriate forum and thread, dont hijack someone else's. Thank you

I wasn't even aware that the Liberty ROM had updates. I'm running the original - Liberty v1.0.

When, earlier, you said "Are u on the 2.3.15 update or 2.3.34 update?" Were you referring to Liberty or something else?
Oh wait, nvm - I just read your other post and figured out what you were talking about. So let me see if I'm understanding - even though there is an option to download/install the blur camera out of the Liberty toolbox it's not going to work b/c Liberty isn't a blur ROM?

ok, let me see if I can get you back on track =)
When I talk about the 2.3.15 vs 2.3.340 update, I am referring to the updates that Verizon has released for the Droid X. Unfortunately since you already have Liberty installed on your phone, there is not a super easy way to tell.
If you turn your phone off and then before turning it back on, hold down the "volume down + camera button + power button". Your screen will blink, then show a bootloader screen, and your bootloader version.
If it says 30.03, then you are most likely still on 2.3.15 update, and that is why you are experiencing camera problems (more than likely). If it says 30.04, then you should be up to date with the latest OTA from Verizon. If this is the case, I'm not sure why the camera is not working for you.
The blur camera works even though it is a blurless ROM. My guess would be (I haven't gotten very deep into Android dev work yet) is that the Blur camera is not dependent on other Blur .apk files or services. This would be why people have been able to add the blur camera back in...
Hope this helps.
Yeah I have the 30.04

Hm... Someone else was having this problem too. I would suggest making a backup, then try reflashing liberty. If you want to be completely thorough, you could sbf and factory reset, and then reflash liberty... But i would see if u can do some more searching online before wiping everything out.

Sorry for the retarded question, but why would I need to install a theme to get the camera working?
I am having the same issue with the camera not working. When I open the camera app, it opens but when I take a picture the screen goes black and then the app crashes.
I have tried installing the blur camera and ASOP camera from Liberty Toolbox.

Have you upgraded from 2.3.315 to 2.3.340 ?
That has been the camera issue plus other issues for many phones.
Yes I am. I checked by holding down volume down + camera + power button, and it says 30.04

few thing you can try I had the same issue awhile back.
* Delete the camera in the SD > Liberty folder > download folder, on your SD card
*Delete camera in Settings> apps folder then reinstall the camera you want
If no luck ...
* reinstall Liberty right over existing Liberty NO wipes.
A combination of above will get you going..

[Q] Camera Application

Hey ladies and gents,
Anyone know if I can change the camera app in the build im using in my sig below? This is the best ROM I've tested over the past year or so and dozens of ROMs. This camera is the worst though. I cant tap to autofocus and it takes like 5 seconds to take a pic.
Thanks in advance.
I am using the same ROM you have. Found the apk file in the ROM thread where several people had good experience using the Miui CM7 camera. I am currently using it without any issues. Here is the link to the post from another user of Pongster's ROM with the apk link:

You need to use a File Explorer app to navigate to the camera.apk that you load and install it from there rather than use it to overwrite the old camera.apk that was there. I think that is what you did? You can have both .apks there at the same time. Shouldn't conflict.

It just says application not installed. I tried Root Explorer and another one built into the ROM.
I also tried wiping Dalvik after moving the APK unsuccessfully.
Why aren't I able to run it as you say?

Not sure why it is difficult to install. You can try off the Market, Camera360, another app that worked well for me. I just tested it again on my phone and it works. I used to use it when I was on Froyo and on Pongster's build until the suggestion from the poster on the link I sent you. I was trying to find the CWR zip file for the same Miui Camera but I can't seem to find it on the Pongster thread. If I find it, I will send you the link. In the meantime, try Camera360. It may be all you need.
Thought the information was in the Pongster thread but actually on its own thread. Here is the link to the link adding the Miui camera onto a CM7 build for HD2:

What would be the order of the operations?
1. move APK, overwriting old APK
2. Power off and boot into CWM
3. Wipe Dalvik
4. Reboot?
If his is correct, I am almost posive this is one of the things I tried.... I tried a lot.

Our HTC HD2's unfortunately do not have the hardware capabilities to record in 720p but can play back a 720p recording.

[Q] MIUI Weekly update how to help

For people using MIUI, does anyone know step-by-step what to do in order to flash the updated MIUI each week for the bravo?
I'm currently on 1.9.9 via rdannar's link and want to flash to 1.9.16.
I tried doing some research on these threads and so far I:
-downloaded the defy update rom from miuiandroid.com and then deleted boot, devtree, and logo
-replaced the defy update META-INF folder, with rdannar's META-INF from his first MIUI version.
what next?
Thanks for the help!

Could someone write a step-by-step instruction for miui update? I always get camera message "cannot connect to camera" before camera even started.
Camera doesn't work with stock app... that's why you get this message.
Sent from my CM7 Motorola Bravo
Yes, I know that stock app doesn't work. What I'm trying to say is that 3rd p. apps like Action Snap or Fast Burst Camera doesn't work either when I'm trying to port the miui rom. In addition, the stock camera doesn't even start and I get this message in a second when I'm trying to open it. For instance, camera starts and this message appears after I'm trying to shot a pic in roms by MotorolaBravo user. I hope I made my statement more clear.

What system/lib files are associated with the Camera.apk?

Trying to get the stock camera working on CM7 (cause the CM7 camera plain sucks). Of course doing this I would need to replace all the system/lib files related to the CM7 camera with the stock one. Anyone have a clue what lib files are needed?

Depends on what you mean by "Stock", if you mean from an HTC Sense rom, it's not going to work because the ril/so/ko files will only work on a Sense Kernel.

From the stock non-Sense ROM. Im aware that Sense apps won't work on CM7 and other similar ROMs.
